A suggestion on the snaps . For matching snap, how about after you have put the hole with the awl, in the flap, close flap, put pen through the hole to mark a matching hole point on the body of the pouch . Then make a hole where the pen mark is and you will have both the holes aligned. Then insert the “pointy snaps” through the respective holes to attach the female/male parts.
After replaying the video several times to follow along, these are very easy to make! Instead of starting with 11", I just cut the fabric to 9". Also made a cardboard template instead of markings, so it is easier to flip the fabric over, iron with the cardboard in place, turn over and do the other side.
I just watched through a few times to figure out that extra 2" piece. Thank you for posting your comment. I wanted to make from a 10" layer cake and that will work great! I see the 2" strip is used to make the tab for the D ring. I may try to make those from coordinating fabric or figure out something cute. :)
I have to say, I watch a lot of UA-cam videos, but yours are by far the easiest to follow and understand. Thank you for making such detailed and to the point videos.
I have to agree. Rosie is extremely detailed and that is much appreciated. She takes the time to explain everything. I have subscribed and will be making many of your patterns. Thank you.
Great Tutorial... I just wanted to share a little tip on how I remember where the snaps go... The male lies around doing nothing {Bottom} The female does all the work! {Top} closure. 😁😊😁 🤗😊🤗
I love the way you explain how to make everything. I have multiple sclerosis and have trouble with understanding allot of people that don't explain the directions like you😊.. Thank you so much!
I love these. I made two of them last night. I purchased the press, awl and snaps a while ago but had never used the snaps. You made it look easy and explained well how to do the snaps. Instead of using paint to mark the place for the second snap.... What I did was.... - Determine where I was placing the snap on the flap and made the hole with the awl. -Fold the flap down into place. -Using a pointed sharpie marker and the hole as a guide, I made a dot through the hole onto the fabric below. -Then using the awl, I poked the hole on the pouch part on the dot, and placed the second snap. Super simple and it lined up well. No paint needed.
I'm a beginner, and just purchased my first sewing machine. I wanted an easy project to sew. Your tutorial was easy to follow with great instructions. Can't wait to start! Thank you! EDIT... I just finished! And it looks fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to post this video.
SOOO happy to have found this video. I have made these for years for my (teacher) daughter's first grade class. They're used for class incentive bucks which are redeemed for rewards (ie no shoes day, sit at teacher desk, Xtra show and tell ...) any way, I had a pattern made to her dimensions but this yr couldn't remember HOW to sew together. Your tutorial was way better than the way Id made before. And thanks to the toggle info I'm going to add an extra tab to write student's names! Thank you, thank you!!! Now ... gotta get to work!!! 😉
Thank you for your kind comment. I would love to see some pics if you make the card pouch. I have a FB group if you would like to join and you can find us here: facebook.com/groups/184663700298519. Thanks for watching!
I liked your version of leaving the side lining unsewn for turning. Your fabric was beautiful. When I use my cam snaps, I press the first pointy part through the 1st hole and into the other side to make a dent into the 2nd fabric, then make the second hole with my awl.
I have a few different ways to line up the holes for the snaps, but this fabric was so dark that I had to use something that would show on the camera. My favorite way to to use a marker to color in the male snap and then press it down. It works great, but you would not be able to see it on the video.
Thanks a lot ! Very nice tutorial. One suggestion : at 10.11 I use a piece of cardboard (5 x 3.25 in) to mark the fold. I place the cardboard on the interfaced side of the exterior, fold the upper part back on the cardboard and press. This gives me a nice fold that is .more precise than a line , and is a time saver, especially if you make a lot of pouches. Thanks again, Rosie.
I understand why you started out with the 11 inch length. (Copy paper) But to save time I would just start with the 5x9 pattern size. That way people can make the pattern the right size to begin with and save 2 minutes of video time cutting off the unexplained 2 inch piece. I like the end result. Thanks for sharing. Chalk would be a good way to mark where the snap goes. Cute little purse.
Oh I think I'll have a go at this, it would help to keep all of his cards in one place. I have bought him a leather wallet in the past, but I think he doesn't seem to like the 'weight' of it in his pocket, a fabric version will be so much lighter - thanks x
I love your pace, so many other tutorials they move to quickly, I either end up slowing the speed down or going back and fore which drives me nuts! I’m planning to make this one and your eco friendly shopping bag. Thank you for all you share.
I am so glad that you like the project. I would love to see pics of your card pouch. I have a FB group if you would like to join to share some pictures. You can find us here: facebook.com/groups/184663700298519. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this! I am a beginner and I have tried more than a few videos to make this and yours came out the best!! And it wasn't bc of me--it was bc you were so clear and easy to understand.
you are THE BEST teacher! I bought a cam snap set over a year ago and wasn't quite sure what to do with it! now I know! adorable pouches! I'm making some for Christmas!
Awww...thank you for the very kind compliment. I am glad you found the video helpful. I think the pouches are great for Christmas and a good way to give a gift card. Have fun making them!
This is brilliant! Your tutorial is clear and understandable. I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for sharing. Also I love your color choices of fabric. Very pretty.
I love your tutorial. Great explanation. If you placed the male part of the snap first then press it on the fabric to make a little dent where the female part goes, you wouldn't need the glue.
Just made one of these and I LOVE it. Turned out really well so I will definitely be making more. Thank you so much for the instructions - you explained everything very well.
Thank you for the precise instructions for this useful little pouch. My granddaughter might really enjoy making one of these with me! And, by the way, your use of the word “okay” didn’t annoy or distract me one bit. I’m liking and subscribing 🤗
81/2 in paper pattern. I love it. When asked where I got my pattern my reply is a piece of typing paper , now called 8 1/2 paper. This is afternoon project. Thanks for all the work you put into this tutorial. Great work.
Cute, quick and easy. Have to pass this on to my granddaughter who has started sewing. Fun little gift! As always your tutorials are easy to follow. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your very interesting pattern and tutorial. I love the little hint that you gave about painting the snap so that you get them exactly online. I will be making some of them this afternoon.
I read you can use the awl to poke through both pieces of fabric at once to make sure they line up appropriately. That way you wouldn't have to use paint.
You are welcome! Those snaps are good to use on lower priced items for craft shows since they are expensive and they are very strong. I have lots more videos planned!
Love this one. But do have a question. Why do we draw the pattern 5" by 11". Then cut off 2" from the length. Can't we just draw the pattern to the length of 9" in the beginning?. Once again another great tutorial. Especially good to use all our fabric scraps we all have. Stay Safe and have a great day.
Just discovering your wonderful tutorial. Must admit, I thought at the beginning... right sides out? Oh no!!! How will she make this with finished seams like her shown finished product! Kept watching and am amazed at the technique. I will make several of these for "just because" gifts. Your instructions are so clear and concise and your voice is so pleasant. Thank you Rosie for sharing. I subscribed and look forward to learning more. Kindest regards to all.

Excellent
That's what I have done when making little purses
I love that you include teaching how to make your own patterns. Great bonus
I'd recommend adding a piece of RFID fabric between the fabrics for security protection.
After replaying the video several times to follow along, these are very easy to make! Instead of starting with 11", I just cut the fabric to 9". Also made a cardboard template instead of markings, so it is easier to flip the fabric over, iron with the cardboard in place, turn over and do the other side.

Thank you so much! I have made over 30 of these. I am donating them for a fund raiser at chuch. Love all of your videos.

I agree, i have enough to knit and sew for Christmas without adding another step thats totally unnecessary
It’s 9” from the apex of whatever curve/angles you choose for your flap pattern. That can vary depending on what style you choose.

I read you can use the awl to poke through both pieces of fabric at once to make sure they line up appropriately. That way you wouldn't have to use paint.
Yes you can, but on a project as small as this one, it would be difficult to do because you would end up poking through the back of the pouch too.
I think I would cut the lining flap, and just sew on the lining side. This way I can see where it’s folded. Cute change purse. Thanks for sharing

Try rubbing chalk on the snap and then pressing it against the opposite fabric to mark placement.
Put the male part of the snap on first. That way, you can "feel" where the top snap goes, without making any marks!
Very clever!
Thanks!
