- There was a lot of news to go over this week! Marques sits down with David and Andrew to discuss the Nothing Phone 1 coming to the United States along with the end of the Microsoft Duo (or is it the beginning?) After that, they discuss what to expect from the Samsung Unpacked event before getting into Microsoft potentially investing $10 Billion in ChatGPT. Lastly, they talk about rumors that Apple wants to begin making its own screens. Of course, we wrap it all up with trivia!

Quick correction: I promise I know the difference between a Transistor vs a Transformer ML model 😅 My brain mixes up words sometimes. But yes, Transformers ftw!
Optimus prime approved
I guess it's coz you worked at intel. Your neural networks got integrated.

Robots in disguise!
Adam and Ellis forgot to edit out the iOS sent message sounds LOL. This is my favorite weekly podcast regardless of the chaos. Great job guys!
... I was watching my messages all the time like what is going on
yeah at first I thought that was my phones (I listened on my phone). Needless to say I was EXTREMLY confused lol
🤣🤣🤣
i kept thinking i was getting messages 😂
I thought I was going crazy
Make David permanent on the podcast.
Edit: Whoever wants this like the comment.
Especially after the keys of the internet video, I think he's an excellent addition
YESSS🎉we love david man, please keep him on!!!!!
Starting a petition to make David a permanent Stay!👊🏻🙌🏻
Come from ur real ID David
Yeah
I adore this recent podcast format. Dave is amazing as a cast member, Adam+Ellis are killing it as producers, and their occasional banter is always welcome. Future is bright for WVFRM! 🥳
The podcast is even more amazing when it’s all 3 of you guys on it! Please keep it this way
Petition for the producers to get a mic each. They are suffering there having to share a mic
What's with all the iOS message sending sounds around 5:41?
Whoa there's a good few of them. Is this an easter egg or something cause I don't know how it could have gotten into the final edit
yea i noticed that
They could have been trying to add a sound for when pictures are displayed, but it just got messed up either in editing or exporting.
Love all the iMessage sounds. Gave me anxiety the whole podcast thinking I was sending messages.
I always enjoy just about every piece of content you guys out out, but this episode was even better than normal. You guys’ more casual banter sprinkled in feels so right.
20:20, part of the reason OS RuneScape has continued to hold an active player base is a system they use to add updates - pretty much everything from graphical changes, to boss releases, to new item stats and buff changes is polled to the community. I don’t know if there’s a good analog to physical tech there, but being in tune with the consumers desire for the product seems like the key to the success there.
Lets just replace Cortana with Clippy to make things even more annoying lol
@@MadafakinRio lol yeahhh
or make many personalities including cortana and clippy
@@daikon711 oh goodness...
@@daikon711 Just flood your computer with clippy clones, including clippy's brother, sister, his cousin, and his very very odd friend
@@daikon711 that sounds awful
David 3 weeks in a row! Let’s gooo
An AI-driven Clippy would help a lot of people I work with who struggle with Excel & Word.
If ChatGPT allowed you to have profiles, so to speak, and you can train each of them. One could be a second you, one could be an encyclopedia (i.e., Google, Wikipedia, etc.), and so on & so forth. You could choose which one you used, allow them to collab. with each other, etc., etc.
In some ways... A narcissist's paradise
@@FirestormX9, or just an efficient team. Either way. 😆
So happy David is a regular now :)
Really loving the bigger group conversations that y’all have been doing. More perspectives and more casual listening experience, keep it up!
I keep hearing the iPhone message sent sound, anyone else?
great episode and this quizzes really put the cherry on top. till next week guys and keep it up
I'm with Ellis on the AI stuff. I think it's biggest potential is in any user being able to train their own data set. For example, like Ellis said, being able to train it on your own work. Or being able to train it on a specific set of inspirations so that it "thinks like you". That way, similar to what Marques said, it becomes a tool for being able to brainstorm and bounce ideas off of "yourself", but a version of you that never gets writers/idea block.
Great, kind of chaotic episode! I'm up for that supply chain video.
I'm loving the more and more frequent music technology mentions (even though it's mostly just for TE for now). Just a matter of time before we get a synth/groovebox review!
Yes! make a video how different components and patents play to make a complete product. Also please also include some interest facts, probably David would be good at researching on that one. Love to know more infos in the video like Trivia :)
Loveee this episode! I felt like I was in the room with yall
IOS message sounds aside, thank you for listening to us all and continuing to have David here. He's the reason I watch the whole show.
That was a fun episode! Or should I say, you folks were having a lot of fun, so we did, too.
Please give Ellis some time off so he can go to a beach some place warm. I literally reduce the brightness of the screen every time he comes on! :D
Finally David without “David shirt” 😅
Just a minor correction. The AI algorithms that became world-leading at Go and Chess where developed by DeepMind, not OpenAI. DeepMind is an AI company that Google bought some time ago. Their major breakthrough so far has been to solve the protein folding problem.
You guys really need to check out the surface duo again with the Android 12L update. It's such a unique productivity device. I like having bezels to grab something (this is an issue on my ZFold3) but I wish they were on the sides instead of across the top and bottom (think iPad mini).
Thanks for the video! I love the podcast. Quick thing: the ML model is called transformer, not tranistor
Also the magic is transformer with attention
I will not stand for the deepmind erasure in this episode
This episode is so chaotic... I love it
I’m all for the smartphone supply chain being a future video
Lmfao I love Andrew!! "This isn't even Marques" 😂😂😂😂
Hearing Marques say he wouldn’t switch to Microsoft/Bing to use chatGPT gives me flashbacks of his “I don’t see the point of folding phones” stance shortly before fully embracing them.
What were those random text send sounds?? Lol
I just love Andrew's Outro 😆😍
I’m glad that David is a permanent part of the Podcast now.
Marques’s stare at 31:52 😂😂
Are there a bunch of texts being sent during this or am I going crazy lmao
I watched this podcast on a 1 hour flight and it ended right as the plane stopped 😛 perfect length lol
Este podcast es fabuloso, felicidades a todos!
Hey @Waveform feel free to disagree with me, but Marques' solo cam is a bit too zoomed in? Not sure if it's more zoomed in than usual, or if it's just the fact that David's solo cam has to fit two people in the frame. Either way, it's a bit jarring when cutting to Marques and he's just *massive.* Again, feel free to disagree but I'd appreciate it if the shot was a little wider ;)
Great pod as always guys 👍🏾
Lol agree
Just a quick note about Android 13, I got the update on my tablet, which is the extremely low end Tab A7 Lite. It feels much faster now. Typically I've experienced the opposite with Android updates to older/lower end devices.
I personally think AI will only be beneficial for us, but man it's hard not to be creeped out by things like the hide and seek game
thanks for all the laughs!
Interesting! Thanks for sharing it.✌️
Also To add up something....
Nothing has also said that they will not be launching any new phone in 2023,
And basically focus on the phone updates and stabilizing the UI ☺️😌😌😌
YES DO A VIDEO ON SUPPLY CHAIN.
also wonderful episode
What are the odds! Yesterday I got nostalgic on the beat and started looking up how to get clippy back
Why was there constant notification sounds?
58:51 It'll just go over the same conversation in the podcast
The part about the 50 IQ had me dying, I’m using that to generate some funny answers in the future
What David says about the dual window mode on a folding screen, I use a samsung tablet and while Android 12L is much better for multi tasking, I do like the idea of splitting the display into two in software, so it works like two separate displays. Would feel like a desktop ala Samsung Dex mode
Would love to watch a video on smartphones and supply chains!
Why are recent episode coming out late?
Marques:
"Oh. Oh! Oh!!"
Also Marques:
"Nvm."
This had me. 😂
‘I just got the answer from this conversation’ literally marques integrating chatgpt into his brain already
Had me thinking I was sending messages while my phone is pocketed
The Ellis tumbler is now an official prop for the waveform podcast
I'm loving Andrew's recent contribution to the podcast
42:47 Now Activision
55:28 LG & HTC I think it was where the Pixel 2's screen was made by one & the Pixel 2 XL's screen was made by the other & it was the XL's screen which wasn't so good
16:40
Whoahhhh. Dude it was Wednesday and I just got out of work which is near the airport. I could see two planes that looked like they were going to hit each other head on and last second they veered. It didn't even cross my mind it was the same day🤯
😂😂😂 it just keeps getting better each week, these jokes maaan
Oh yes, the supply chain thing is worth its own video!
Would love a video showing the smartphone supply chain
I am not sure about that but I heard from somewhere that nothing is not launching any phone this year
it's my favorite time of the week
38:28 - Literally a Black Mirror episode, Be Right Back. It starts out as a chat bot that you give access to someone's social media account, it trains on all their posts, and comes back talking as them, then it progresses to voice calls by training on their video content, and in true Black Mirror style, it finally ends up as a robot that can also look like them.
Good to know stuff!!...
I was hoping that you would talk about iPhones removing the Twitter app? Would there be a different way to get the app on an iPhone, doesn't Google play store work on an iPhone?
No google play doesn't work on iphone unfortunetly...
Something from Nothing stole my heart
Waveform podcast has become really fun!
The WVFRM podcast reminds me of the former beloved Engadget podcast with Pete Rojas and Ryan Block but this one is tons better.
17:28. Ask the missing participant the trivia question on the studio channel/shorts. Direct us there/show a snippet. Might boost traffic to where that content is located. I might be wrong.
Something that I feel has been missing for these conversations it's that most information in the Internet it's the same repeated a lot, so updating models from the same source should have certain limits.
"Let me know in the comments if it's worth a video"
EVERYTHING IS WORTH A VIDEO, MARQUES
Let me bing that for you bro! 😂😂😂😂
Corrections:
The NLP (Natural Language Model) used by OpenAI is called a *Transformer* Model
GPT-3 has 175Billion parameters not 10B.
Yes, please, to the supply chain break-down video.
what was the answer to the similarities between fb, vimeo and okqbid?
Yes it's worth a video for supply chain structure and everything and complications
1:44 I'm sure the ability to edit stuff is one of the reasons why this podcast is not live lol.
“Well spoken” 😂
Apple did buy a modem manufacturer a few years ago. I’m surprised they haven’t dropped Qualcomm yet.
The iMessage send sounds threw me off... was I hearing things?
Delta has freen internet for whattsapp too for international and local flight, after like 20 minutes into the trip and like 30 min before landing. I fly delta only to Nigerian from the US every time, and that four flights combined.
37:30.....when Ellis says "If I could train the AI to be like me".....scaryyyyy
The Duo was delivering on a concept that got leaked from Microsoft like 10 years earlier. The public went wild for that concept and then MS slept on the idea for way too long and by the time the Duo came out, technology had caught up to the original concept and passed it. Two screens was a crazy good idea back when foldable screens weren't even a concept people thought possible.
28:55 ChatGPT: How is rain formed? (2 minutes of amusement).
Do you guys mean Transformer models and not Transistor Models around 23:30?
Yep. My brain was glitching lol
Just love this content
What's with the iMessage sounds?
As a SharePoint admin at work.. Microsoft search which is the main search engine within SharePoint online will benefit immensely by the Open AI investment
more interesting than the likelyhood of apple using their vertical integretion to drive prices down, is that this is kind of the philosophy of meta with the quest line. spend insane amount on R&D, using custom hardware and then any savings from streamlining and sweet deals just goes into pushing more advanced hardware into the next gen
It looks like you're trying to bring me back to life.
Gotta love mkbhd content as a tech lover!
I need to know supply-chain stuff for phones.
That iMessage sounds were extremely distracting lol
22:54 Someone keeps on saying 'transistor' instead of 'transformer' model
21:28 Correction: David says that the 'TRANSISTOR' ML model was introduced in 2017 but it is actually the 'TRANSFORMER' ML model that was introduced by a team at Google Brain in 2017 which was indeed revolutionary...
If y’all haven’t seen it already Corridor crew did a video where they did analyze someone’s voice and chopped it up into a fake ad read from a crew member. Definitely worth a watch if you haven’t cus it literally sounds like what y’all are taking about just intentionally instead of a prank. 41:24
OpenAI’s chatGPT is basically syphoning everything on internet (free and paid content) and giving internet’s best option of every question. Its not even AI. Its existing database of internet (like google) but in more conversational way
51:11 You should definitely do a video about the UA-cam monetisation changing! I didn’t know. I bet thousands of others don’t either!
21:28 pretty sure you mean transformer, not transistor.
