    Hi Tim, when you purchased your emlid RS2 survey kit did it come with the black base piece that is between the tribach and the extension pole for the base?.

    • @DroneMappingTools
      @DroneMappingTools 2 роки тому

      It does not. The only thing that comes with the Emlid is the unit itself. So any Tribrachs, adapters, and extension poles are extras. Some tribrachs come with them, some do not. I prefer the adapters( part you are talking about) that rotate. Not all do. Hope this helps.
      You can buy the rotating adapters from various suppliers. Here is an example.

    Nice video! Question. When you do your camera settings. Do you point the drone towards the sun or away from it for your settings? And as I understod you took off with Dji Fly and in the air you swapped over to dronedeploy? Very educational video, keep it up! 🙏

    • @DroneMappingTools
      @DroneMappingTools Рік тому +1

      Hey Douglas, thanks for watching! You will actually have your camera pointed straight down 90° (nadir) when setting your manual exposure settings. When you do the mapping mission you will most likely be flying in nadir (90°) or in some cases you will fly with a gimbal slightly tilted, ie 70°. I hope this helps.

    Wow! What an awesome video and wealth of knowledge.
    Questions/videos I'd be interested in:
    Does not having an LSIT, PS, FS affect the type of business engagements someone could get?
    Any thoughts on the DJI Matrice M30/M30T for the type of work you typically perform?
    You kind of covered the 'budget' level of getting started - what about someone who had a more comfortable level of investment - what would you buy of higher quality and why? Why not?
    Thanks for this!!

    • @DroneMappingTools
      @DroneMappingTools 2 роки тому +2

      LM, I am not a surveyor, but I do work for surveyors. So you can positively do this business. You just can't ever provide survey services to someone. As long as you contract for companies who have surveyors to sign off on your work, then you are good. As far as equipment goes. It is best to simply fly what is necessary to accomplish the mission. If a P4P will accomplish the mission just fine, then that is what you fly. If you need to fly something like a 42 or 61mp camera, then you will have to have the equipment to fly it. The M300 is a very nice flying machine (I have it). I know nothing about the M30. You are fairly limited by doing only photogrammetry. The main barrier to this business is the cost of Lidar. I sell the TopoLidar system and it is $17,500. A very nice Lidar system and very affordable for Lidar units. It can be flown on the M200's, M300, and M600 pro (or any other bird that will carry it). It is a self contained unit and does not integrate with the craft flying it. If money is no object, the perfect setup would be the M300 with a TopoLidar, the P1 or TopoDrone RGB42 camera, a Phantom 4 Pro with TopoDrone PPK kit installed, a pair of Emlid RS2 units, and the required gear for that. Lidar360 software, Global Mapper Pro software, and either Agisoft, 3D Survey, or Pix4D. [Pix4D will not process the large frame images (61mp) without an addon license] . And that would pretty much have you everything you needed to handle just about any job thrown at you. Hope that helps.

    Tim thanks for the vid. Would like to ask when your recording your points on reach view app you have the option FIX as turned on. What is the reason for this? And secondly you flew your mission then you recorded your points. On ppk, Does it matter if u collect your points before or after your mission. Thanks for your vid’s , I will be starting up my business here in couple of days in west Texas and your vid’s have been very helpful. Thank you .

    • @DroneMappingTools
      @DroneMappingTools 2 роки тому +1

      Hey Crosbo78, I had fixed turned on because I had RTK enabled. That is absolutely not necessary when you will do PPK processing after the fact. But if you were relying strictly on RTK, then having the "Fix" option turned on, will only allow you to record point data when you have a fix. If you are capturing GCP's for 30 seconds per point, then if at the 20 second mark, it lost the "Fix Solution" (ie it went to "Float"), then it will stop and wait on a fix to come back. Then it will collect the point for 30 seconds then save it (as long as it is a fix the whole 30 seconds).
      On Question2, it does not matter. The only thing that matters is that the targets are not moved from the time you collect them on your Rover and the drone flight. That would screw the pooch. By using "fixed targets" such as parking stripes, concrete corners, sewer drains, etc, that eliminates the possibility the target could be moved. The only real issue of a target being moved is when you have other bone heads in the area that could kick it, ride over it, pick it up, etc. If I ever think there is a possibility that a target could get moved (accident or on purpose), I spray paint the ground around two opposite corners so that when I return to the target I can confirm it is in the exact location I placed it. But this is a VERY rare issue. Just one to be aware of.

    • @DroneMappingTools

      Hi Sirr, you do not need a surveyors license. But you can not offer surveying services without a license. I do work for surveyors. You would need to check with the laws in your state to make sure you are not breaking any laws. I believe multiple state survey boards are being sued over antiquated laws.

  • @richconverse5517

    I understand the concept that you're talking about but the drone that you use you're using are you going to that did it and it was in construction and they said you want to overlap to be 65% and it'll be easy just then it'll be easy just to map it and line the grid lines up

  • @jerseyshoredroneservices225

    I've been through these errors and others with drone deploy. Get rid of that garbage and go back to DJI ground station Pro. The GSP interface is a little clunky which is probably why so many people like drone deploy, but drone deploy doesn't work half the time. Often you'll finish a mission and then realize the exposure was off because it wouldn't accept the settings from DJI go 4.
    if you don't want to use GSP there are others to choose from, just not DD.

    Where did you learn Photogrammetry ? Was there a school per say or all youtube ?

    • @DroneMappingTools
      @DroneMappingTools 2 місяці тому +1

      School of hard knocks :) Truly. But that is one reason I made the videos in the early days to help others out. The hardest thing to learn then (and I think still is today) is being able to learn the surveying aspect if you are not a surveyor. There is alot to learn and understand about the survey aspect of mapping. I learned alot from the surveyors and just studying online, practicing....then rinse and repeat :)

      Hey Bret, thanks for watching. I don't recall this specific comment. Do you have the time stamp you are referring to? Anyone can do photogrammetry. If you have an iphone, you can do photgogrammetry. But to do photogrammetry at a survey level you must have the right equipment, and knowledge of the workflow, to provided the right data to your clients. If you can give me the time stamp, I will review that and certainly make any corrections if I misspoke.
