- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- I chase the Union Pacific #4014 "Big Boy" Steam Locomotive as it travels Southward between Mexia and Hearne, TX. This locomotive is a piece of history and I was honored to be able to see it in person and experience the sights & sounds of the early 1940's.

steam locomotive whistle - Навчання та стиль
What an absolute beast of a train mate. The engineering alone that goes into making them, good to see it restored and being used. Cheers for sharing Troy.
I appreciate you watching brother and Cheers to ya!!!
@@TROYCOOKS thanks for sharing mate. I love nothing more than finding out what makes the people I like tick. So I appreciate you sharing mate, thanks again.
Holy Smokes Troy!! What a Beautiful Train!! Awesome footage Bro!! It reminds me of the Train in Back to the Future...They had to stop to recharge the Flux Capacitor Lol!!😂 I'm sorry I missed it when it was here in Now Orleans. Great video Bro!!👍😁
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Great look at the old beast. I couldn't help but wonder though why they had a diesel electric with them. And I know it's just wrong on so many levels but I found myself think " wouldn't be cool to convert that big boiler to one heck of a big smoker. Come on, I can't be the ONLY person thinking that. 👍🔥🍻 😁
Heheheeee, I'm with you on making that boiler into a smoker Victor! LOL I hear they run the diesel in the train for emergencies and they definitely had one as the Big Boy got close to Baton Rouge, La. They couldn't find a watering hole for the Big Boy, so the diesel had to push the Big Boy to a place that would allow them to suck up about 40K gallons of water so they could make it to New Orleans. There is footage of that on UA-cam. The Big Boy was lucky enough to get water in a very small town called Addis, La which is about 15 mins from where I grew up. I think it's on RailFans channel?
@@TROYCOOKS hey thanks for the reply. I knew they would have a logical reason for the diesel electric, I just didn't think of water issues. Wow 40k gallons of water? Heck that would make a great smoker also. T Roy take care of yourself and stay well hydrated. 🥃
The diesel locomotive is mainly used for dynamic braking. This saves the brake shoes on the Big Boy.
That is way cool T-Roy! I bet you can hear that horn for miles! Good video!
crazy to think at one point that was probably mans greatest achievement… also it’s basically a rolling bomb. lol
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
I am very fortunate, he comes through Greeley COLORADO on his way home & I get to see him. 💛💛💛👏👏👏
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Awesome footage, that's a huge engine! If you ever make it to Yukon Canada, or Skagway Alaska you'll have to ride the White Pass & Yukon Rout (WP&YR) narrow Guage railway. They use an old Baldwin steam locomotive pushed by diesel engines through the mountains. The train follows the most scenic route from Skagway Alaska to Bennett Lake Yukon and back. It is a beautiful trip. Thanks for sharing.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
That was so cool! I bet it was loud
Yes, I think it blew out my mic!!!! LOL
Love it! I spent a of couple days in 2019 chasing 4014 through central Iowa. Truly a magnificent machine! Thanks for sharing your footage!
Caught it in MO. I've seen a few steam engines in my life but the sheer size of this one is incredible.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Very cool T-Roy. My father collected old toy trains and was a member of the TCA
Train Collectors Associarion. Quite a difference seeing the Big Boy up close and personal. Thanks for sharing and I hope you and the Mrs have a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks for watching Paul and Happy Thanksgiving to your family as well. Yeah, Big Boy is a BEAST for sure. It sounds like a fire breathing dragon at startup! LOL
I'm a fan of trains. It's fun to watch them go by. This looks very cool. A nice piece of history. Cheers, T-Roy!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
The Big Boy was also the name of a braizer grill back in the ‘50s.
This Big Boy was the pinnacle of power for steam trains!
It was loud in the play back... I bet it was LOUDER in real life. Trains are cool, I went on a school field trip with my kid to the Galveston Railroad Museum. Very interesting. Take care Troy!
Yes, it was extremely loud up close and personal. I had my mic turned down all the way and it still maxed out the mic volume. LOL
Got to love Big Boy 4014, very cool you got to see it on the go and stopped. That would be a fun job! Thanks for haring T-Roy!
It was awesome to behold Papa!!!! It was so much more than I expected. I'm thrilled I had the chance to see it parked and in action on the rails. Hope you and the family are all doing well my friend!!! I appreciate you watching!
Worked for UP Railroad and got to see UP's President trains inside. I was asked to go get supplies and food for kitchen in for train. It's a beautiful train inside. BIG BOY 4014 stopped by October 23, 2019 and it's amazing that it's been refurbished and looks fantastic. I'll always miss
my time at Union Pacific Railroad, our Yardmaster recently died and will forever be missed.😔
Excellent comment Maximus and I appreciate you watching!!!! I'd never seen an older steam locomotive in action before and Big Boy blew me away!!! I wasn't expecting it to be so huge and loud! And American steel is solid as a rock! Wish we'd go back to manufacturing stuff here in the USA. Thanks for watching brother and thanks again for the comment. Cheers!!!
@@TROYCOOKS Sorry I didn't answer after your comment, I'm a female, not a man🙋♀️ anyway...I also got a special invitation to board the train that has a console like that of Star Trek space ship. Forgot it's name. It's all types of computer equipment and has amazing capabilities. I got to sit in the captain's chair 🤯 and fantasize about beaming up some hot guy from my past knowing that it was my fantasy. I've gotten to ride in these trains too. Maybe because I was LIKED and TRUSTED by head of Union Pacific Railroad bosses. Miss my time at Union Pacific Railroad. I can still hear the trains go by and blow their horns late night
missing all my friends / coworkers 😞.
Howdy Ho, T-Roy!!!! BIG STEAM, Woooooooooo!!!!!!!!
Not a big fan of 4014, just because it put 3985 out to pasture. I like the Challengers a lot more than the Big Boys, but oh well. Great that you got out to shoot some great video. Woooooooooo!!!!! I was a committee member at a railway museum up here for several years, I even owned a couple of cabooses back in the day.
Stay well, my friend.
RTFO!!! GB🤘
Wow, small world GB!!!! You can't find or see a Caboose these days. I miss them at the end of the train. I'll have to check out videos on the 3985 and Challengers. I'm not familiar with them. Thanks for watching brother and Rock On!!!! Cheers!!!!
I live in Belton, TX. I drove down to see 4014 roll into Hearne, and waited until the crowds had dispersed that night to get pics of her buttoned up and resting. I drove BACK down the next morning to see her leave, and ran ahead of her to catch the crossing at Texas A&M where my daughter had shot a little video for her dear ol' dad back in 2019. A true American icon that I have been enamored with since I was a schoolboy. I NEVER gave any hope to seeing one run again!
By the way, on 4014's leaving Hearne, I was shooting video from further up on the bridge embankment. I'll post it. I mighta caught ya on it!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Cheers T Roy!! Man this was very cool! We’ve talked about doing a train trip! Thanks for sharing this piece of history!! Hope you and Ms Karen have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Looking forward to some new cooking videos😎😎!! Hint hint!!
Thanks for watching Jayson and we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving also!!! Cheers brother!!!!
Awesome niche vid T-roy. Hope you're keeping your health in this weird time. Still love the vids, think I've watched you cook for a few years now. Hope the family is doing well, and great video!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
ЗДРАВСТВУЙТЕ 🙏 ЗАХОДИТЕ К НАМ ТОЖЕ У НАС ВКУСНЫЙ БЛЮДА 💝🌹🌹
Pretty cool seeing those drive rods working the wheels! Gotta appreciate the engineering that went into building these old beasts
I agree, it was a sight to behold and I'm fortunate to have been able to get close to it. It's a beast!!!!
T-ROY...LOVED THE TRAIN!
QUESTION: I'M GOING TO SMOKE 2 TURKEY'S ON MY WSM FOR THANKSGIVING AND ONE I WILL SPATCHCOCK. WHICH ONE GOES ON TOP...THE WHOLE OR SPATCHCOCK?
THANKS
RATTLESNAKEBBQ
I'd put the spatchcock on bottom. The heat will be needed to cook the whole turkey so it needs to be on top.
Awesome video... my grandmother used to work for Southern Pacific during those years. Thanks for filming this! Cheers!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
That sucker is huge! The sound of that horn is pretty wild. 🤘
It was a sight to see brother Joe and the video doesn't really do it justice. I think the Big Boy horn blew out my mic! LOL It was very loud and a HUGE engine! I was so close to it at the Bremond crossing that I got some spray from the engine hitting my leg. Yeah, it was hot, but it was fun to be that close. LOL Cheers brother!!!!
What a machine! Glad you could be there to show us all. Thanks T-Roy 😎👍🍺
I saw Big boy go through Midlothian and Waxahachie. I got a cool video you might like. If you want I could email it to you
Love the videos! 👍👍
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Well Mr. T-Roy you ain't kiddin when you said this thing is amazing. And talk about one helluva birthday present, on the day she was in Hearne for the night, that was my actual birthday. Me and my family came up to Ft. Worth for the whole weekend and I got a nighttime photo session with the big boy all by myself, weren't nobody else there but me.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Great footage Troy, that thing is massive!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Nice I saw Big Boy 4014 in Fort Worth TX a couple of months ago…awesome
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
T Roy..a friend of mine in Alpine took some great shots of the train going through town. Give me your email address and I’ll forward them to you. A couple would be great for framing.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Very AWESOME! Thank you for sharing this great video! Support from up here in New Hampshire!!!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Awesome videos T-Roy! My hobbies have now officially crossed. I have this working HO scale die-cast model with sound and smoke. Now I want to set up a holiday display to show it off. Thanks for the amazing videos, well done!
Awesome, I had an HO train set when I was about 10 that had sounds & smoke. I still remember the smoke smell. It was unique!!!! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful, powerful piece of machinery! Thanks for sharing😊👍
Great Video Troy Nice footage. Big Boy made a stop In Northern Illinois about 10 miles a way last year. Very Impressive
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
That's an amazing sight thanks Troy I really enjoyed that man made beast, happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
That’s AMERICA! Hopefully, not what it once was!
Amen brother!!! Thanks for watching Keith!
That can't be a train, there's no graffiti on it!
Seriously, that is a beautiful beast of a machine. Gorgeous.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Beautiful T-Roy!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
I pulled a train up next to Big Boy in Ft. Worth when it was there the day before it went down to Hearne. It’s pretty cool to see up close.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
This was a very good video buddy. Loved the last couple of shots. Stay safe friend!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
My grandfather was a conductor on the Southern Pacific line from Ennis to Hearne.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Big like to see you my dear friend big like to see you my dear friend big
We had a chance to see it up close back in 2019, College Station
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Thanks for Sharing this brother! This was interesting to see.
God bless all here.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
So Very Cool, I watched it twice. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video "twice" Carl. Much appreciated brother!!!! It was a sight to behold in person and if it ever comes down South again, I will definitely check it out in person again.
Love the Channel. Might check this out case scenic railroad in wv
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Thanks T-Roy...
T-Roy look up Jw Tooth he follows train in my neck of the woods.
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Thanks for sharing your awesome experience T'ROY. I loved hearing the horn and bells. Now that's power. Happy to see you out enjoying the simple pleasures in life. God bless you and yours.😊✝️🙏
Thanks for watching Juanita! I am enjoying life and this was an awesome experience seeing Big Boy in person. I'll be putting up another Big Boy video next week hopefully.
To think that modern marvel was designed by some very bright people using paper and pencil, and a slide rule.
Thanks T-Roy, Happy Holidays to you and your family. Cheers from the Jersey Shore.
Hello if you read this Mr Diver! 👋 I’ve never forgotten about this channel!!
I saw it a few years ago it was parked in West Chicago Illinois. When it left saw it at tracks about 5 miles from are home. It was awesome
I chased it for 2 days Wayne and loved every moment getting to see it. I sometimes would not shoot video just so I could soak in the awesomeness of the moment. Good times and I'm so happy I got to see it here in East Texas. Thanks for watching!!!!
@@TROYCOOKS I am happy you saw it too
I can't imagine the amount of power it takes to get that train moving from a standstill. Amazing!
Look at that gorgeous steam locomotive. Thanks for sharing.
That was AWESOME! Irony was not lost on me, that it was tugging the diesel locomotive. I think I know why it was, modern trains don’t have a caboose I suppose.
I miss the Caboose also. Just doesn't seem the same without it. They run the diesel locomotive for backup in case the steam locomotive breaks down and on this trip it did, so luckily, they had the diesel to get them to a watering hole.
@@TROYCOOKS I figured it had; beds and a bathroom with a shower, and maybe a table or kitchenette to eat for the crew. The purpose of the old caboose. Yet back up seems wise.
This is an amazing video T-Roy! We love trains and getting to see these beauties up close is a real treat. The closest we get to trains lately are the Lego trains we have set-up in the living room. Thanks for showing us this cool adventure!
I love the old trains also and it was a real treat getting to see Big Boy in action up close and personal. It was like a fire breathing dragon!!! And LOUD!!!!! LOL Thanks for watching guys! Much love!!! Cheers!!!!!
Absolutely fantastic vid, thank you for sharing😀
Feel sorry for those people in the yeller Renegade 😂
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Awesome video my friend ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Wow. Impressive for sure.
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Definitely showing the kid this one! Thank you for sharing!!
I wanna party on that Train!!!!
Hey dear , how are you doing!?
cool
I really enjoyed this video! Great video quality.
I didn't know you like steamed trains?! Cool....are you an old school Lionel fan? I am!!
Yes, I sure am. My Great Grandfather was a steam locomotive engineer in the WWII era and, luckily, I was able to ride a steam train with him in the late 70's from New Orleans to Hammond, La. Good memories!!!!
My friends Dad John was the Pilot Engineer for than run. He said it was the highlight of his 44 year career.
I'm sure it was!!! That's an amazing piece of American history on the rails!
4-8-8-4? that's one big engine. Nothing like the feeling of that kind of power and sound. Old power rocks. ✌🤟🖖
Old power does rock. They built stuff to last back in the day. Now, they just wanna make more money and build stuff cheaper so it'll break down and you have to buy another. Sad world we live in. I appreciate you watching David!!!!
Texas 1947
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Nothing good came out of Hearne TX
Like 434😉👍✨
very nice video!
Looks fun
Hey dear , how are you doing?
That was cool. Thanks for sharing! 😎🚂🍻
Still looks good for almost being 80 years old
Imagine that thing converted into a smoker.
I used to visit it at the Pomona Ca Fairgrounds always hoping it would run again one day.
It was a sight to behold!!!! I got so close that it sprayed my leg with water venting out!!! Kinda burned a bit, but worth it! LOL
From one Squid to another we know the power of steam!
I recently saw a documentary or a YT video on the cars this train was pulling. The names on the cars are the past presidents of the railroad company. Also those cars at the end with the skylights are for the current top brass to travel around the country. Interesting piece of Americana!
Thanks for the info Larry!!! I was wondering about the names on the cars. I appreciate you watching!
I've never been to His'n, but I've been to Hearne 😁
Its crazy how a majority of the old stream engines were scraped and used for parts. Tragedy...
Yeah, a real tragedy for sure. Such great machines back in the day when America built stuff. Thanks for watching!
Sweet vid, T-Roy! My stepmother's father went from the Horse and Buggy to Trains to the Automobile to Planes .. only person I'd met who could claim that .. Trains are gnarly, you can still see them rumble thru parts of Tampa if you're timing's just right .. cheers brother!
I'm with ya John, my Grandma "Mama Jean" went through the different phases of transportation as well and she had lots of stories to tell about "back in the day" kinda stuff. Thanks for watching brother!!! Cheers to ya!
With ya there, John..me Grandma came from Iowa to Muhzurrah in a wagon, an she lived to see Man walk on th Moon!
T-roy I LOVE steam locos
Every year it makes several trips with passengers during Cheyenne Frontier Days from Denver to Cheyenne
I knew it usually is up in that area and I couldn't miss the chance to see Big Boy in person as it passed within a couple hours of me. Glad I made the trip to see it!!!!! It's a beast of a locomotive!!!!
I miss the Yoder not a fan of the groven
T*Roy u brought me back to when I was a kid going NYC-Miami on the Silver Meteor(when it went across to Tampa and then back across and down to Miami.Only thing that was missing was that sound the coal steam engines made when the chugged to start.Once on the many trips to Miami We had a Steam Engine pulling us for part of the Journey BTW my grandfather was a 50 yr man on the Erie-Lackawana frieghts and passenger lines
Hi how's it going? Hope all is well. Hugs to you and your family. So very cool. 👍👍👍🥇 my dad gave me a train set I can't put it together. Really cool video
Thanks Stephanie and William. Much love to you guys also!!!
@@TROYCOOKS 😊😊🥇🥇
you have the best intro music on UA-cam for any cooking channel
Thanks very much Sammie! My wife and I wrote the lyrics and paid a pro to do the music and sing it.
Blains a pain.
Hell yeah ! Trains are awesome! I went on the Durango to Silverton train in the early 90s Awesome ride and beautiful view!!
Saw this train as it passed through Denton, TX. It was late, but a great experience!
Nice footage T Roy
Thanks brother!!!! Cheers to ya!
Wow no wonder they call that thing “Big Boy”
Yep, it's HUGE and very loud!!! I'm still trying to figure out if it blew up my mic!!! LOL
TRoy that was a great video my friend ! Wouldn't it be AWESOME to have a smoker built like that ( only not quite that big ? ) where you could smoke a whole heard of beef cattle ! Thank you my friend FRANK FROM MONTANA... PS that's a little bigger then my Lionel trains !!!!!!!
Ha!!!! I hear ya!!! It would cook a herd of cattle for sure if you turned it into a smoker, but I'd rather see it going down the tracks. I had an old Lionel steam engine growing up and loved it!!! Good times! Thanks for checking out the video Frank!!!
I hope you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, Troy, ol' buddy.
Hey Byron, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving as well buddy!!! Cheers!!!
I miss the red cabbage,
Do you mean the orange Caboose? I miss it also! Thanks for watching Diana!
I would love to see the Big Boy!!! Wish it would head up here
in WNY. You got some great footage. And up close. It probably was here and I missed it.
I got up close and personal on my next video as well as Big Boy headed back North through East TX. I hope to upload that next week sometime, so stay tuned!!!!
As someone who works with the railroad seeing that loci is pretty neat!
Awesome brother, I didn't know you worked with the railroad? That Big Boy was HUGE and very loud. It was very impressive and shows what kind of machinery America used to build back in the day. It was a sight to behold and I am fortunate I was able to see it up close and personal and hear it hissing and belching and stuff. Very cool indeed!!!! Cheers bro!!!!
@@TROYCOOKS Yeah I have for the past 7 years now. Love the work and yeah its pretty impressive what they accomplished back in the day!
That was awesome....thanks for sharing
Cool catch !!
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Glad that you got to see it. The steam trains run through is in Nebraska yearly. Big Boy sends shivers down my spine and goosebumps on my arms when the whistle blows
I totally understand what you mean. I was not expecting such a huge engine and for it to be so loud!!!! What a sight to see in person! Glad I got footage of it in action! I love that unique whistle. Engines nowadays just don't have a personality like the old steam engines did.
