It's all part of Talacra abbey where the Benedictine monks and nuns lived (theirs nun graves literally next to the caves)before this it was owned by Lord mostyn and was called talacra hall. It’s actually called a grotto and is a local legend. The woman carving is actually thought to be the grim reaper and the carving what looks like a lion with wings is also thought to be a griffin and on the other side of it supposedly an alter with 3 legs.. and the squared cubby hole where Al found the feathers was presumably where a fire was lit and that the smoke an flames would come out of the other side where the griffins mouth is. The headless man at some point did have a head but it was took off by vandals and apparently in his left hand was a staff in-which he would have held but that was also broken by vandals and he’s thought to of been a monk, the little ledges were probably where candles and trinkets were placed as well... no one actually knows why their is all these random carvings an statues in here because their isn’t much history about the place.

It was popular in Victorian times to build grottos and decorate them with shells. I'm pretty sure that's what this place was intended to be. The headless man statue was probably a hermit, hermitages were also popular.
FACTS: Abbey was built 1824-9 on the site of an earlier house. The grotto is from the final quarter of the 19th century (1899 earliest record). The tower is newer and built in the third quarter of the 19th century. The lion carving represents the owners family. The openings at its back are for lighting fires that would send flames and smoke from the lion's mouth.
i went there today and the guy with the missing head has a broken finger looking closely at it there is a crystal ring inside possibly bone !! i didn't get a close look at the whole statue as was rushing around while being local in the area , the griffin guarding the entrance is aligned for light through the mouth unfortunately did not have compass to check but would say south, the rear of the griffin below the dragon head there is a pit (possibly for night time lighting or charging something ) the opening ouside the pit is angled that i would say had a angled lens inserted missing! they would have pointed directly down the 2 tunnels hitting the corners where there are triangle stones missing or mirror len's that would of reflected on to the cement type mould's not stone carvings of cyclops possible added later ! The main tower has a unique floor made of iron rings with angled cones, (similar to Edward Leedskalnin used to attract magnets to run through the iron ) that join together possible had crystal or glass lens in before but now filled with type of lime concrete not sure of material. one side of the tower(outside) is covered in large nuggets of iron slag and the opposite side wall to that (outside ) appear to have water feature / running water down the stone into channels and cups/bowls going down into the ground. The door way into the tower has 2 seats left and 2 seats right sitting in them and lean back talking or making a noise becomes very acoustic would personally say that it much older than thought has connection to America, Florida area bermuda as there is large Conch shells in areas not local , the builders or builder had knowledge of astronomy, light, sound, energy and well travelled.
Lots of little metal crosses, all standing at different angles. I've seen pictures, and it's the sort of place, that if you went to at night, you'd fall arse over tit on one of the crosses. I was already believing this to be a Folly before Norton mentioned the stately home nearby. This is perfect for a folly both in setting and the money required. Probably Victorian, hard to tell. It's design with the figures and carvings is perfect for modern Pagan practice and Shamanic practice too. You already saw the magic talisman there, but it is extremely unlikely that occult practice was its original purpose. Outstanding find guys, those carvings were awesome!!

The Grotto in the garden fashion was in the 18th century. They used to employ a man to live in them as a hermit/wizard. He wasn't allowed to wash or cut his hair & nails. The Dragon by the entrance, looks like a fire pit inside and the ability to somehow push it shoot fire and smoke out the dragons mouth.
