Anita is the executive producer of her music, wrote many of her own hits and self admitted stickler to being directly involved with all aspects of the music/band/arrangements. Interviews galore with her talking about this during her early solo career
This came out around 1986/1987ish .. when I was like 2 , I remember being a toddler in my Aunt’s Cadillac, she used to play this Cassette many many weekends on the way to the malls, I love these 80’s easy breezy ballads
The 80s has the most unique voices ever .... and Anita Baker is surely one of them, the great thing is that there are tons of songs tailored made for their unqiueness which is emblematic of what the synth machine can do .... I've always believed that the 80s achieved the fullest range of musical possibilities due to its belief in the synth as the instrument which embodies the widest range of sounds unlike the later decades which limits itself to just those traditional rock and roll instruments ... even now, the music producers still are not as imaginative and creative as those in the 80s in fully utilising synths to proect unqiue emotions and vibes ...
I love Anita Baker! It’s funny you mentioned the production and guitar playing at the end. This song was produced by Michael Powell and he was also playing the guitar
That velvety voice,..silky,..and I see how you can compare them,..they are both class acts, and a mixture of jazz in their music, horns, classicl or Spanish guitar kinda,..it's just that extra something , and both sound just as good or better live, saw Anita years and years ago, was momentous, girl, like Sade`, a show all their own, nobody opened for them, it was an evening with just them and their band,..saw Sade`, on a separate occasion,..just thrilling, laid back classy evening,..they both still tour, do go see them, please young person, I emplore you, please go see them,..its good your checking out some of their music, even if you can't get through the whole library of them,..you will thoroughly enjoy yourself at their shows,...Godspeed, Peace ✌
As smooth as butter! While Sweet Love will always be my favourite this is a close second & maybe for R&B heads it’s her best. A head nodder, a smooth delight, a lyrical masterpiece, the way she glides into the verses, that middle eight, what more can I say?
Great timing with all the news surrounding her tour coming out. She's top tier for me personally. perfection all around. "Caught Up in the Rapture" is the second single from Anita's album Rapture (1986); it was her third top-10 R&B single, peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart and #9 on the Adult Contemporary Singles chart. The song also hit #37 on the Hot 100. Please react to Anita Baker - "Body and Soul." Talk about chill-inducing, in the best way. Can't play that song around just *anybody* lmao
Her hit song No one in the world is a must see! Her recent shade towards baby face got me looking at her sideways tho-lol but she's still a good singer, she was different!
That "humming" part is call SCAT and its very used in Jazz. The best at that was and always be Ella Fitzgerald. A great example is a song called Cotton Tail.
Sade is a group (not just lead singer), you’re right both were queens of quiet storm, both only put out albums spread out over long time, both unique. Anita more the writer and producer though, her vocals likely bit stronger with her Gospel roots (and Gospel grammy, Sade didn’t venture into other genres or duets as much as AB)
Why is it that most reaction people spend more time talking through the videos/songs you react to? I really don’t understand it at all. You have all the time in the world to listen to the video or song in its entirety, then you can react to it afterwards, but most of the time it’s paused and chopped up to the point where the song doesn’t give you the sense of enjoyment when you hear it. You comment before it, during it and after it. Did you actually get to hear the song at all?

Anita is definitely in the same vein as Sade!
You have a shower right next to your bed? That's an interesting setup lol
