Hi Matt, thanks for mentioning the music stand in laburnum. If anyone else wants to take a look, the original version which inspired me is on the Ishitani woodworking site.
Matt-you have a ton going on but just wondering if you will be getting any more build videos out about making slab skin tables? Loved the one you experimented wtih and would love to see a start to finish. Thanks.
Matt, your new Trailer looks fantastic! Congratulations! I know your glad. Very very nice camera work Lindsay!! Matt you said you went down to CO to visit Mark. That’s a long drive. If you flew, how are the airlines dealing with Convid-19 and “Recirculated air”?That scares me- haha.
Hi Matt, I loved your Chaos boards... Have you ever thought about using the scraps and gluing them into a turning block.... Would love to see what a Chaos bowl or vase would look like... Nice logs and the trailer turned out great...
Hey Matt, how about a collab with Marc, The Schwarz and you. Use the trailer's maiden voyage to take the workbench top and a couple o'slabs to Marc's shop, ya know for the future (to futureproof him, let's say :). And then build a bench with The Schwarz, Marc and you in a marathon style like April does with her builds. Hope you guys can do it! With all his quarantine thing happening I'd bet The Schwarz should have more time in his hands than usual and if he is unavailable you can surely can come up with alternatives in the area. Keep up the great content!
Matthew, it is obvious that you are once again obtaining quite a large selection of slab cuttings for sale, so may I suggest the following. I believe that it would be much better for the wood itself and for your business as well, for you to construct a covered open-air shed of maybe 14' W X 10' H X ?' L in size the complete length of your available property. You might even consider two sheds facing each other to double the amount of available storage. Such sheds are quite helpful in protecting the slabs from the ever-changing 4 season environment. The open style shed allows the wood to be stacked or unstacked from either side of the shed with your forklift. Such stacking under an open-air shed also allows for better circulation of the needed crosswind airflow which helps to dry the wood faster and which prevents the danger of mold from environmental moister growing in-between the slabs. It also prevents any moister from rain or snow which is wind-blown in under the shed's overhead cover to quickly dry and dissipate. A long bay open style shed stacking also gives the appearance of a professionally owned and operated business since it allows prospective buyers the opportunity to easily inspect all the wood slabs without passing by and/or missing any of the stacked slabs. A shed will also give you an open, uncluttered driveway for moving the slabs from the sawmill to the shed for stacking as well as giving your buyers a clean and safe walking path to view the various stacked slabs. You are presently making stacks in a wherever possible/available manner and covering them with vinyl tarpaulins. I believe that the vinyl coverings although serving a purpose are actually bad for the wood itself. Inasmuch, as if the stacks are not sold quickly, the vinyl when covering the stacks for a period of time can restrict the needed airflow for drying the slabs. In hot weather, vinyl can and does create both heat and moister in the slabs which causes the growth of unseen mold. The wherever possible of placing a stack of slabs also have the negative effects of not allowing a needed crosswind airflow, because the surrounding stacks block the airflow from one another. Further, it makes it hard for you to move stacks from where they were originally placed to where you presently need them for viewing by a buyer etc. Such stacking also hinders your movement of newly cut stacks around the property to open spaces for placement. Sincere suggestions from a fan and only offered and meant to help, not to intrude in any manner.
@@mcremona This being one of the problems which arise when you have purchased property in a controlled area, problems that were never conceived as being a problem at the time of purchase. I hope that you have not given up on finding another place to relocate your family and your business.
@@mcremona I have my fingers, toes, arms, and legs, plus my eyes are all crossed for you. In fact, I am so crossed, I look like a contorted contortionist.
I am so glad to see that the trailer is done. Good for you. New steel is not so hard to paint because there should not be so much rust. As long as you cleaned, primed and a good top coat you should be fine. It would have been nice to take it to a undercoating place and done the inside of the tubes and undercoat the bottom. None the less all is good. I wish that you would have let me make a sign for you. I have a small CNC plasma cutter. I can not wait to see you cut the new wood chunks that you just received. Your excitement when cutting is fun to watch.
Looking forward to hearing more about the bench kits! Remember, 24" wide bench tops are too narrow, you're a 28"-30" guy all the way...at least, that's what you said on WoodTalk back in the day... And would it be asking too much to get a giant epoxy pour of a Cremona face (w/beard) in the middle of the trailer? As it gets scratched up, it'll just make the beard look gnarlier
Not going to lie, if the budget allows it, when my day comes to build a super classy workbench, I might have to splurge on some Cremona lumber. That's so awesome.
Nice looking trailer, time to get some scrathes on it. I was quarter sawing a 32 inch oak today which is small compared to what you have laying around. Interested to see the silver maple.
I hate to say this Matt, I think the lift which is miles ahead of nothing, is a touch small for those larger pieces, as I know where there is a will, there is a way and you will find it but if you could rent something for those big days. I know it will bite into profit but safe is good isn't it??
Pass the bird feeder around and have everyone autograph it. Or maybe start a bird feeder project for the guild! Made to look the same but made from wood.
Matt you should totally tell us how old these trees are and maybe something that happened the year the seed began to grow... ;) Hope you're not still using diesel to lubricate your blades. - fixie
To protect the bed of the trailer from heavy logs, would it make sense to put a loose piece of plywood 4'x8' sheet (or not)? Maybe that would also help to slide logs on and off?
People use 2x6 or 2x8 for the bed. They are cheap and can be replaced anywhere. If you really want something more durable, you can use standard tractor-trailer beds. Mostly 20' lengths. butcher block style or this; buyhardwood.advantagelumber.com/p-8381-brazilian-apitong-7-shiplap-trailer-decking.aspx It doesn't make much sense to use ply for this as it would get beat up in nothing flat. Hey matt, great update video. Just a quick question, did you ever receive my email with the pictures of the hardwood bookcase I made for my daughter? I sent it about a year ago. (can send again if you like) I was kinda hoping to see it in an WSU video last year, but figure you probably get a hundred emails a week from random dudes like me.. ;) Cheers from Australia
Nice camera work Lindsay. Yes you are busy. 👍
Wow all those viewer submissions were amazing.
Workbench kits sound cool!
Nice work. Nice trailer. I think you should give us a video of smashing bottle of champagne on it. Happy hour, what?

hey nice work as usual Matt
Thats quite a big log Matt! Great video Bud👍
Really interested to see what you do with that massive Maple, and how your sawmill deals with that embedded metal in the oak.
Can't wait to see how the slabbed birdhouse comes out, betting there's some real nice figure in there.
Maybe it will have some birds eye in it, ya know?
That was a fun filled and packed vid. Great job man and no way someone gonna say I didn't see it on that trailer color LOL

You got some big logs their Matt

Thats a bad ass trailer. Did you ever speak about cost to build vs buying new, and time to build, etc?
Touched on that in part 1 of the series. thanks!
That is the most unique intro shot I have ever seen in one of your videos.

That’s still pretty big. The quarters aren’t very small 😄

I love the the red trailer paint but it clashes with your truck color!
Give it some time to get dirty and it will match perfectly

That covidbeard is gloriously grizzly.
I'm laughing at the bird feeder still being on the log!
Great looking trailer Matt, I’m envious. I’m curious though, I thought you were going to hot dip galvanize the whole thing what happened?
The dipping company chickened out so Matt decided to paint it instead.
I like the director hollering at you. 🤓 What do you call that color on the trailer? Red maybe? 😎
Hoping for a nice rocking chair kit.

Nice 👍
