Thanks so much Matt. It's been a pleasure and inspiration to meet and work (a little) with you. thanks also for giving the tree a good new home.
Thanks Gil! It was great to meet Kathy and yourself :)
Салам алейкум кандайсың 1
Ahhh.
I loved your daughter's face when you dropped mic in the sealer and went uh oh, she was like "nope it wasn't me" Excellent video as always.
Mrs. Matt: "Matt only fishes for two things: logs, and compliments." 😂
Edit: terrific (and abrupt) grooming modification at the end. Very Jim Croce. 😁👍
"Like the pine trees lining the winding road..."
I was thinking Trapper John Cremona.
thank you for not cutting out or reshooting the part with the kids. I like that stuff it makes me feel more connected to the person I am watching.
The skid steer is a game changer for you!
It's fitting that a tree with so many memories would be the last big haul for the old trailer which has so many memories of it's own! 🙂👍🏻👊🏻 ..... Besides for trees, I'm almost certain people can have butt rot as well, having ridden in the subways and buses of NYC, I can attest to it! 🤢🍑💨🚇🚍 🗽
hahahaha oh man!
“Trees like us, don’t live forever.” Great quote Matt
I’ve found that getting a chain under anything that I can before I cut into logs is beneficial. Never bad call to have a chain already under a 5000lb log!
Another great action video. Thanks for the shared knowledge. I have a suggestion for you, get a 1/4" rod, bend one end onto a handle and the other into a hook. Use it to reach under the log then hook your chain to it and pull it thru. The small rod will let you curve it to curve around the ground side of the tree.
As usual you make a tough recovery look easy. That skid steer is the best labour saver you could have purchased. Not to mention your back and personal safety. Hope the summer brings you all you can eat spalted maple! 👍
Wow. I really underestimated the scale of the tree until I saw you cut into it. That thing is HUGE! Great job.
That matt guy. Always going after the tiny trees. Oh wait...
While I've seen it many times before on your videos, I still marvel at that log arch and just how useful it is. Amazing.
That skid steer was a good investment. Can't wait to see the new trailer in use!
Can we take a minute and appreciate how well set up those saws are. They were cutting through red oak like it was pine. Motors weren't bogging either. good job setting them up Matt.
thank you!
Matt, you truly amaze me. Pound for pound you may be the world's strongest and cleverest, lone lumberjack. I was thinking that you may be a genius of sorts or maybe even a wizard, but then you dropped the mike into the paint. Alas, only human.
When I bought a chain saw for my wood turning, I was very nervous. I told people that I never saw an Italian with a chain saw. I told them that Italy buys all of its lumber from Austria and that elephants carry it over the Alps. Watching you work that loader I kept thinking how much of what you were doing was exactly what a logging elephant does. It requires much more maintenance though.
I truly admire you.
Stay safe,
Gary
Thanks Gary!
woah!!! Matt had time to cut and haul this huge tree and had a haircut and shave in between. I think Matt is from another planet and that they just dropped him there in the middle of Minnesota.
That skid-steer has really become an integral part of your operation. I imagine moving all of those logs around would be a bit harder and more time-consuming without it. Awesome video as always.
I THINK MORE THAN HALF THE FUN IS THE RECOVERY , YOU APPRECIATE THE CUT MORE GREAT STUFF SIR ,, BE KIND,.,.
Woodworking aside, dude you are a beast at handling those logs. Excellent work Matthew.
Woodworking jesus went out and Freddie Mercury came back.
Matt most interesting as you recently said that less than 10% of your income comes from the sale of wood, but then again some things in life are just priceless.
The skid steer certainly has paid for itself with how it makes life easier moving those heavy logs.I am amazed at how you can manipulate these logs onto the trailer by yourself.
Also love to see kids playing outside and getting dirty, jumping in the hole where the tree was removed, etc. Your kids are going to have a LOT of fond memories, and maybe they'll pick up some of your talent & skills!
That's the childhood I had :)
Watching the way you load the log on your trailer is ingenious. Well done
Ah......the old "butt rot" Made me smile. Can't wait to see what kind of cuts come out of them.
.
Your boys have grown loads since we last saw them! Time definitely flys by!
Hey Matt, if you were to do a little work to that pallet you could make yourself a permanent chainsaw setup that you could load straight into the back of your truck with the skid-steer, fasten it down and be done, rather than having to unload everything into the bed of the truck - would save you a bunch of time.
Great video as always!
I love the plan that you have loading the trailer with the winch gizmo. I think I’ll build one
I love the color of your truck
I cut a fallen over tree like that once and the root ball sat up just as you described
I have to admit that I laughed out loud when the skid steer nose dived at around 22:05. Not unexpected, but still made me laugh.
Matt, I was watching your tree snatching workflow and it seems like you could add a pin to lock the arch in a 90 degree upright position. Then attach a snatch block to the top of the arch in the field. It would (functionally) be like a wrecker. You could use many feet of cable to reach and then drag the logs up to the trailer in one long pull with equal lift and drag force like the arch does. Just a thought. Of course, you use the arch to load them on the trailer like normal.
Beautiful Red Oak. That will make some beautiful pieces someday. Maybe Guil will have you make a memory to keep.
Extraordinarily impressive. LOVED seeing the kids playing!
Thank you!
It's nice to see kids running round barefoot and dirty, getting a healthy immune system, and looking like they're having a happy, joyous time, in the open air, under the sun - an idyllic childhood. Little mini Matt's digging in the hole, just like dad does - very funny !
That’s the childhood I had. Doing what I can to give them the same
Finally! This is what I like to see most on the channel.
Watching you using that skid steer certainly makes my back feel better 😂
got my trailer, next up the arch Well done loading that oak!
Whatever you finally get out of all that wood, you deserve it. That Mini Skid Steer helps you alot !!
You certainly keep your chainsaw well sharpened! The spray of sawdust is impressive!
I loved your video and was so impressed with the work you accomplished with just one man! Can’t wait to see more!
Thanks!
Matt, I retired from a company that, on occasion, had to lift 100s of tons of equipment. Because of this work lifting devices - chains, straps , various hoisting devices and a lot of other equipment had to be inspected at different intervals. To keep track of what was "legal" to use a color code system was used. Since you could be involved with lifting logs that could injure yourself or someone else I suggest that after you inspect your equipment you use a similar system. All you would need is a quick spot of paint to show the tool is within your safe to use timeline.
Guest appearance by Jim Croce at the end!! 😉
Eric, I was Hoping that I wasn't the only one thinking that same thing. Guess that kinda dates us!
Haha, well, he died before I was born, so.... I just like real music. Not to many years before I was born, if that helps. 😁
I thought Matt was going to pull out a guitar and start playing, I gotta name.
I was Pancho Villa. Enjoyed the video, glad the family came along. I was Nathan from Out of Woods, he was wondering how to sell his slabs. I don't know if he even saw it. Thanks for sharing.
A beautiful tree, can not wait to see what you make from this "small" piece of firewood!
27:46
Wanna watch dad load logs? No.
Wanna help dad load logs? No.
Wanna play in the dirt in a hole? Yeah!
Matt the pallet you had all your tools on in the beginning. If you forked it to the front of the pallet as opposed to the side you could have just set the entire pallet and tools into the bed of the truck. Provided the trailer is not attached yet. Then when you come back you can take them all off at once. An idea for efficiency in the future. I am going to jinks you now by saying since you have all those logs you will find your a new property. Have a great day.
So nice to see all the kids make an appearance
You keep my mind active and very happy.Iam to old to do it ,but you allow me to do it all from cutting , sizing, to building. In my mind.THANKS,keep doing videos
Great to see beautiful trees like these being saved for use instead of cut up for fire wood or just burned were they fall. Man, bet its going to be one of those love/hate things watching that first big log drag across your newly finished trailer bed and against the fender walls. Oh, I know from personal experience short hair is easier to deal with and a lot cooler but, you look better with the longer hair imho. lol....
That youngest boy is sure super interested
He's the next Matt the wood man.🍁🇨🇦🇨🇦
What amazing wood, I can't wait to see the grain in it when you cut it. I cut a red oak that fell in my apartment complex and the grain was fantastic. By the way, you need some counter weights on your fork lift!
Or gain some weight LOL
Pretty sure in the video when Matt got the loader, he put steel plate on the back as a counter weight and to raise the foot platform a bit since he is not the tallest logger in the world.
When you pulled out that saw with long bar on it I was reminded of that line from the crocodile dundee movie ... now that's a knife
Matt Cremona.....1 man logging crew! Super fun to watch! Thanks Matt!
can't wait to see that log sawed up. the poor winch sounds ready to go out to pasture.
I need to clean the contacts. it's starving. Thanks!
Hey Matt just wondering if you watch Andrew Camarata’s channel. Love watching both of you do more work in a single day than I can muster up in a week haha
You might like the shirt I'm wearing in this video ua-cam.com/video/ZcwDSEUzCpk/v-deo.html
For working with tree company's that have big equipment. That was very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
I am in awe.... really amazing to watch your skillful handling of these massive pieces of wood!
thanks!
Nice to see a guy who wear some protection gear, while cutting. Good Job............. Stay save Bro........
wow , you look very different with your beard and hair cut . That mini skid steer is a wonderful investment as far as I can tell. great video Matt .
This was a great video. Really enjoyed how you handle those heavy weights. They didn’t look that big until you standing next to the tree.
Again, nice job.
There is something very spiritual in seeing fallen trees being given new live! I really enjoy your very open and sincere content. Hugely entertaining and who would have thought that a fallen tree pickup could be so much fun. Keep it up Matt and whole family.
Thanks Simon!
That skid steer was well worth the money. Just think how much time and effort it saved you. Enjoyed the video, thanks
As an old person who had some serious back surgery last year I think it has additional advantages beyond saving time!
@@henryD9363 I agree! As a 55 y.o. Aussie Carpenter, I fully agree with anything that can save your life, your back, your body and your labour.
Wow, i live in kansas and majority of big trees where i live is cottonwood and elm. I would love to have some trees like this one. And what beautiful wood you could get just from a giant rootball such as this one. That mini great to have also. awesome video.
I am so glad that you cut underside first, then top so as not to get the saw caught.
Always enjoy the process but seeing the kids playing really brought it home. Nice job
Have 100 plus year old Elm thats on its last legs in back yard in Minneapolis..you may be getting a call in a year or so..6ft diameter main with 8 main branch offs at 8 ft off ground..a true beast! Visions of interior wall wood for my cabin build.
Those recovery videos are my favourite! That's how I found your chanel years ago. Your kids are a perfectly messy delight btw.
Your miniskid is worth its weight in gold!
sorry to have to admit, first time in a while viewing new trailer, truck and skid steer. things must be going well. keep up the good work.
Thank you for doing your part to save the planet.
this guy MC knows his business.
@Matthew Cremona: 2:00 you should weld a truck bed insert with your saw box incorptrated. Then that could hold all for your recovery stuff.and chain saws instead of moving it piece by peice. If you build it with fork lift brackets, then you could use your skid stir to move it in and out of the bed all at once
First and foremost, so happy to see the family with you and joining in on the fun of logging "Gyppo" Style and what an adventure it was. I really am seeing the potential in this arch style boom on the back of the trailer doing so much less damage to the trailer itself. The logs themselves are not impressive as grain goes but its boards an people buy boards and you could use a few yourself in a roof project.... hey?? More with your wife and kids would be great
Matt you should fabricate some racks on the back of your little forklift to be able to add some tractor weights for some extra counter balance for picking up your logs
Man Matt, you need a new trailer?? That old thing has had it! ! !!! GREAT SAFE recovery.
this is the kind of videos of yours i like along w/ the sawing.
Matt:
I have been a subscriber for a while now and watch all your videos. I must say this was a corker! You are, indeed, a mechanical genius! Entertaining and educational!!!
None the less, my day job is an orthopedic physical therapist...... Please keep me in your address book. I have a feeling we may be meeting soon, LOL! 🤣🤣🤣
I never knew just how much fallen tree variety there is in Saint Louis, Missouri until I started watching you channel. There are hundreds of vacant lots, without houses, full of fallen trees.
great video. Thanks for taking us along on that adventure.
Shocked how solid it is, most Red Oaks that big have quite a bit of rot. Don't enjoy climbing them compared to other trees we remove..
I highly recommend you pickup a Honda 2000 watt generator to plug a battery charger into as well any any other items like lights etc. a 20 amp battery charger would be a good accessory to keep the winch battery charged up on site for better performance. Honda generators are very quiet in operation.
Food for thought
Nice job. I was upset at you at some job not wearing protective equipment. This time you were prepared and more thoughtful in the bucking. Awesome maneuvering skills, loding, unloading, positioning!
That trailer setup is really cool looking and also looks really effective. Nice video 👍
That was fun to watch! Seeing all your urban logging videos is making me consider wanting to start doing that at some point (I'm an aspiring woodworker, and this looks fun!). I don't have the right property at the moment to store/mill up all the logs, let alone the equipment... buuuut we are going to look for a new house in the next couple of years, perhaps I need to factor a possible urban logging venture into the new property requirements!
I enjoyed! Jerry Garcia to Jim Croce looks out of the park!!!
I used to do a lot of woodturning. I made friends with several tree cutters. They would call me when they were cutting big trees (Austin TX). Anyhow, it was nice to re-use the tree and turn it into something permanent like you said at the end of the video. Most urban-cut trees just go to the chipper - onsite, or at the Austin mulch facility.
Wow, that was a LOT of work! I bet the wood is going to be beautiful, though! (And if you see Gil, tell him I said his shade garden is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!)
Thanks! Kudos to my wife Kathy, the master gardener!!
That trailer really turned out awesome.
Nice recovery - The Little Trailer That Could !
Can't wait to see the new trailer in action!!
Beautiful logs. Lots of great projects coming down the line.
Always happy to see those trees turned into useful lumber for someone, Matt.
Thanks Steve!
Mad Props on the growth of the Family and Business.
Thank you!
Matt I think you need to clone yourself to get all that work done............unless you can squeeze more hours into a day. I that was some BIG TREE. You are a pro at what you do and you make it interesting to watch how you maneuver those logs around to get on the trailer with ......from what I saw pretty much "ease". May you have trees for a life-time and your kids are so cute and that daughter is darling. Good luck in your adventure in this life and God Bless you and your family.
I'm always impressed by that log arch, it doesn't seem to flex at all! properly built, I just thought the weight might be enough to put a little flex on that box section but apparently not.
That thing is huge WOW! That's gonna be some woderful furniture, I can smell it from here
Good morning from Yukon. Great video as always. Have a great day and God Bless.
Thanks Jim!
Man that trailer/winch combo works great.
Thanks for sharing Matt always love to see your adventures! Regards BobLee
Thanks Bob!
Line the box with UHMW plastic . It can help keep tha aluminum from denting up when throwing firewood in. And it’s slick nothing will stick to it. Also did a spray in liner into a pickup dump box for landscaping, grass clippings. It was too anti skid and they had to rake the box out while dumping.
Hi,
And think that in the old days, people did this all by hand.
Keep it safe, it is not over yet.
Willy from Belgium.

WOW Your hair and bread grew back quick!!
