You forgot the best part about Albany, OR :P There’s a Home Depot across from Denny’s diner restaurant and cross from that State Patrol office that’s in the same parking lot area to an adult store “Lovers” and a Hotel!!! LoL.
There is a serious meth/drug problem here. I’ve lived here my whole life. Just like California and Washington. The homeless problem isn’t just with addicts, I believe it’s due to not having enough high paying job/ drug problem (because it affects everyone) Also the high housing/rent prices.
I've never seen this guy. Have you seen the guy that drives around in his red convertible, singing along to 80's rock music? He really makes a show of it. I've see him about once a year, but I'm never able to get video.
For a short time period in the mid to late 90's almost every telephone pole in town was wrapped in aluminum foil, this was a local do gooder who believed the foil would prevent an alien invasion. The original bridge that crossed the Willamette river was struck by a bi-plane in the early 1900's, the pilot was searching for a missing child in the river. The original footings can still be seen, they currently hold up the power lines through Bryant Park. I lived in Albany for 13 years.
this is actually hilarious! I mean, the was the trash can fell when you were talking about how cool it was to have robotic garbage trucks, or when you were talking about the bike laneskinda promoting their quality but it was full of mud/leaves/something lol
I love the way you did your video. It was quirky, the camera angles, the music, the offbeat facts that connected Albany to Oregon and other major towns. It shows you don't have to live in Portland to get the same experience. Nice job, a very nice job indeed. Outside of Oregon, I've lived in North Carolina, Tennessee and New York so here are 5 odd facts about those three states. New York: 1) Over 2/3 of New York State residents live in or around NYC. 2) NYC is the most walkable city in the USA 3) Seneca Falls, NY is the birth place of womens rights. North Carolina: 1) Everybody seems to smoke in this state. 2) Everybody seems to own dogs in North Carolina. 3) Every home seems to have a shed "dwelling" built in the back yard. Tennessee: 1) I think the term suburban sprawl was invented in this state. 2) And for good reason, It takes forever to traverse one end of the state to the other, might as well have stores everywhere along the way. 3) The term southern hospitality is best captured in the presence and attitudes of the people of this state. 4) I can't say the same for the people of North Carolina who are for the most part rude and act like they can't be troubled.
Ohhh Brad:) I looked you up on Facebook. Why would you even take the time to leave that "reply"? In 3 years you will find something else to bitch about in your new town. Whats wrong cant find any friends or people with the same extraordinary intellect you obviously possess? This is home to me. And if someone (unlike yourself) is active outdoors this is the perfect place to be. Good riddance in 2 years Bradly.
Not sure where you’re from but I’m born and raised here 😂 and we feel like Albany is WAY too big and busy. I can hardly stand it. So entertaining hearing others talk about Albany.
I Joined a bicycle building group in the US there are so many doubble decker bikes there but you're lucky because in the states you can put a 50cc motor on a bike and roll around without a rego the gas thing is pretty crazy though I was honored when this lady offered to pump my gas for me here in NZ Also we have drive through alcahol stops I may make a video of it
We have auto garbo trucks here in Australia too, it's pretty common I think. That's why you have to have your garbage bin close to the gutter and road. Since you asked haha, my town (or city rather) is Newcastle, NSW and I was born there, grew up three hours north in a small town and have come back for uni so I am not an expert on it but, 1. Newcastle was a second point for convicts coming to Australia to isolate them when Sydney became more prosperous and a nicer place to live (even though Newcastle has some beautiful beaches), 2. It has automatic garbage trucks, 3. It is the second biggest city in NSW by population, 4. It was formed on coal and steel and coal is still a big export being shipped regularly to China and India, 5. the University is the biggest employer in the city and one of the biggest by area in the country, 6. Most of the international students at the Uni seem to be from Iowa 7. It used to have a rail system until our idiot previous premier stopped all rail services and now they are building a light rail where there were trams up until the midcentury, 8. Nobby's beach is lovely! 9. You should come visit (but also Visit Melbourne and Tasmania too as they are amazing!)
I'm not really interested in church at all. I just drive by that sign every day and it's funny to me, making it seem like their open door policy is revolutionary.
There are a lot of people in Albany missing teeth because they have "meth mouth". There is an alarming number of people there that use methamphetamine regularly.
Hardly snows in Albany, while communities all around pile up with the cold stuff. Albany exists in a weird warm pocket--but now that the paper mill has been shut down and demolished, I wonder if that will allow temps to get a tad cooler here? Also, Albany lives in the shadow of Mary's Peak, but not as closely as Corvallis, so that probably affects our weather. Corvallis will see snow and thunder storms that miss the I-5 area.
I live in TN and we've had the robotic arm on our trash trucks since at lest the mid 90s and recycle pickup since the 80s. We do though have an enormous chemical company that makes plastics called Eastman, which makes Kodak aka Eastman Kodak, so I guess there was an incentive for a robust waste management service due to the recycling/plastics processing capabilities.
When I saw the truck drop the garbage can for some reason I laughed really really fucking hard. It's like I was just imagine the truck saying "I don't give a fuck" and driving away.
Sales tax is 10% up here in wa state, so I buy mostly online to dodge the tax, I'd rather pay the shipping than the tax. Everytime I drive to portland I forget about the gas "rule" and pump my own gas. The attendant gets pissed looks at me like I'm crazy and takes the pump away from me.
The reason we don't have sales tax is because every year the state vote it down its actually really bad for our school system because it means we don't always have enough money to get new books or desks and stuff like that in school
Interesting video. I live in Linn County, but closer to Corvallis. I come into Albany frequently, however. UA-cam now has the capability of removing the shake and vibrations that occur when you film from a car or a bicycle. I use it frequently.
The thing about so many people who are missing teeth is because Albany puts twice the amount of flouride in the water supply here. An excess of flouride causes many health issues, including loss of teeth.
Dude, if you think Albany is uber bike friendly for a smaller than Portland town - check out the city across the Willamette River, Corvallis. The churches (besides the Catholic, Mormon, and JW) are pretty chill. Shit, you're a little too spot on about the tweakers and gas. The homeless issue is due to the drugs. Phone booth thing is like 90% related to the homeless/drug issue. Yeah the teeth thing is drug related.... The deposit thing is actually a really good service, yeah we may 'force people to pay extra' but its incentive for mostly outsiders to give at least a half fuck about the environment. The coffee thing is - BECAUSE YOU'RE IN THE PacNW. Starbucks was established in Seattle and just spread all over the Pacific Northwest.
I guess I must be a native Oregonian. I was born someplace else, but your list of things are things that when I go someplace else, I'm all, "What do you mean you don't [insert list item here] That's how we do it in Oregon!" No wonder I felt so out of place during the years that I didn't live here. Also, I've seen the trash thing in other places. I lived in Arizona for eleven years, and the garbage truck in one of my neighbourhoods had that mechanical arm, so I thought that was normal.
The no teeth thing is pretty much countrywide, dentistry has never been cheap but over the years the cost has sky rockeyed so that if you are not at least upper middle class or have great dental insurance you're out of luck. I live in las vegas and see it here but have noticed it in other places in my travels. Many y eats ago you almost never saw this.
#11 Brad is a Christian who sometimes volunteers (what a nice guy!), but doesn't realise that videos like this actually have quite an appeal for most people including myself. Thanks Brad!
Actually, I know that guy. His name is Brad, and he is really a sweet guy. He loves that car, and I don't blame him, he has put a lot of work into it. He was also injured and left in a coma, years ago. He survived and kicked ass on his way back up, so let the guy sing away. He has certainly earned it.
The teeth thing is the only thing offered by the low income dentistry... I am missing a couple, simply because that is what my insurance would cover and all the dentist would do.
LOL! Talk about weird facts, today was the absolute first day we were able to buy alcohol in a normal venue! Until now you had to buy from state run stores, forget buying alcohol 2 minutes after 7:00pm; forget buying Alcohol on holidays like Chirstmas eve when the in-laws show up...Godammit! Im happy but now the taxes are high. Can we get Laugh Track Matt to protest the high alcohol taxes?
My town has robotic garbage trucks too! I live in Safety Harbor, FL. And wow thats nice you can recycle bottles and cans for money. My town recycles, but picks up recycle bins we set out and they also use the robot arm to collect them. We pay for the recycling program monthly with our trash service. Stupid. Especially since there is value in our recycled items. You'd think they would cut our bill down for all the stuff we recycle. And finally, we do have sales tax but we have no state tax. So when we do our taxes, we have no state, county, or city taxes to pay. That tab is picked up by the tourism industry here.
fremont, ne has those trash trucks too, not a ton but they do have em. same as papillion ne. i wish i had the bike lane thing. our sidewalks arnt big enough. wow no teeth. odd. not in my town but some town in nebraska has a law that barbers cant eat onions i think its between 7am and 7pm on the weekdays or something like that.
Another nickname people call him is crackhead james and he has real mental issues by the way and not just from drugs my dad has a friend who is friends with James mom
Bro blockbuster was the best but sadly it’s gone now and idk of you went near the south shore element school. Ur my grandma lives near there like right across from that Dutch bros
Seems like there's a lot of dentist too. Can't we get these 2 groups together somehow? You forgot to mention all the great restaurants. Oh wait, no, that's another town.
And the coffee kiosks? Dutch Bro. will give a free coffee to any first time visitors/tourists and new towns folk. All we have to do is ask. It is an "honor" system. Nice, huh?
Is Albany a nice/attractive place to live? It looks like it has some nice houses and buildings. Or is there anywhere else in Oregon that is nicer but not a huge city? Same here
I live in Sheffield, England most famous for it's steel, the original bowl section of the Stanley Cup was forged here.
You forgot the best part about Albany, OR :P There’s a Home Depot across from Denny’s diner restaurant and cross from that State Patrol office that’s in the same parking lot area to an adult store “Lovers” and a Hotel!!! LoL.

Albany looked so different 8 years ago OvO
Albany-Corvallis area changed for the better.

I have seen him soo many times. I have seen him out front of his house washing his car a few times too. He always makes me laugh
Yes I have see him lol. He was in a really bad car accident and that's why he's so loopy he also yells " get to work "
We may not have sales tax here in Oregon but we do have the highest income tax in the nation. No sales tax makes up for it in the long run.
We have A LOT of drugs in albany

Are you still in Albany? If so, can you make an updated video? This is one of my favorites!
Finally.. A UA-camr in Albany, YASSSSS
Ik right
I live in Albany since I got adopted! It is cool
ive lived here my whole life and i never knew were one of few places with the garbage trucks with robotic arms XD
Looks nice and clean. The fact that you don't get snow shows on the even roads.
Ha i left that brown scripture book at the last phone booth you showed
fun fact. That scripture book has been there for 7 years and never stolen.
We have those trucks in... Alaska even. Corvallis is much more bike friendly, as is Eugene.

I really enjoyed this! Just out of interest how come you're going into churches?
How could one not?

I love Albany
A fact about Albany: There are more registered Republicans than Democrats in the city, although Oregon is a Democratic state
it was my experience living in Oregon, that except for Portland and Eugene, most of Oregon was fairly conservative.
seen u posted this a year ago but. had to comment YES!

I live in klamath falls oregon and I don't think we have phoneboths here anymore, we do have a lot of homeless people too though.
anyone know crazy james

Very nice Town
sounds like there is alot of things you do not know about!
I know I was thinking the same thing, the driver just "Eh I don't care anymore"
I've sat in my car in Washington, wondering why the gas attendant was taking FOREVER to come outside and pump my gas.
lol
did you ever go to rileys or the still?
Seems like there's a lot of dentist too. Can't we get these 2 groups together somehow? You forgot to mention all the great restaurants. Oh wait, no, that's another town.
Wow, that's awesome about the aluminum foil. I wanna hang out with that guy. :)
The owner's granddaughter is a tweaker? That's so sad. I hope she gets help.
We get thunder and lightning every year. What are you talking about
I just never leave the house.
Why you making fun of my home town I grew up in there from 2018-2019. April 14 Tuesday summer almost over sadly
lol same here. was about to go inside to complain,
Garbage trucks in Sacramento are like that.
what about that annoying ass train that goes on and on all night
Glendale CA has the same garbage truck.
I use to live in albany oregon.
Why did you leave?
Not sure what happened to him, must have decided aliens weren't coming after all.
Your joking right how long have you lived in Albany
Shoulda mentioned the tweekers everywhere here lol
And the coffee kiosks? Dutch Bro. will give a free coffee to any first time visitors/tourists and new towns folk. All we have to do is ask. It is an "honor" system. Nice, huh?
Interesting Video ! Thanks v_v
Toothless people 😂 it’s because we are the meth capitol.

Do you still live here Brad??
Six years now. I'm looking forward to leaving ASAP. If the internet didn't exist, I would kill myself.
00:05 I'm still going to choke all these elderly "Barbara's" living with 100 kitty cats?
Living in I can't pump my own fuel because I'm retarded with cousins? In Albany? ua-cam.com/video/ok_ILKyYetE/v-deo.html
Holy crap, that free healthcare suddenly doesn't seem so free.
AND HOW long have you been living in Albany?
Okc has trucks like that
If you love tax evasion live in Vancouver WA and shop in Portland. No income tax and no sales tax.
Yeah they teach 3rd,4th and 5th graders all how to ride bikes here
I think we have a gas station in tangent that we can pump out own gas at
This video was made before that new gas pumping law took effect.
Do you ever come to Portland?
1:01 Truck arm drops the garbage can
Yea i lived there
