As a 90s kid and skater, I have to say that I have a lot of nostalgia for these old x games courses, but let’s be honest the designers had no ide how to make a good street course. They just stuck ramps everywhere in every shape and a shiton on them. Worked better for the bmx guys and even in-line skaters.
See the thing is there wasn't even hardly street skating though. Like street skating wasn't even a thing until like the mid-90s really. These things take time :)
You can definitely see it a couple of times during the run where he has to awkwardly carve and loses all his speed haha. My favorite is the ridiculously steep like 20 stair handrail he starts with haha
Everything is all over the place, but they always figured out a way to find some sort of flow. There's kind of a charm to it so it's fun to look back, but keep it at that 😂
For sure and BMX and inline guys probably didn't love it either. Shit was just all over the place lol. The designing has gotten exponentially better over time
Damn, I saw this run live on TV when I was younger. Now being 34 takes me back when my dad and grandma where still alive. He watching silently but amazed and my grandma cooking something.
Epic on what Koston did for Skateboarding always pushing the limits and just crazy cool to see the Bay Bridge in the background of downtown SF. HOME SWEET HOME!!
Back when those tricks were actually considered to be a tough run. Amazing to see this in HD now too..I remember that static filled screen you couldn’t see well.😅
The craziest part is he's skating the old X-Games style park where skateboarders, rollerbladers, and BMXers all rode the same course. Skateboarders were affected the most with its uncomfortably high ledges, bad overall flow, lack of enough flat ground, and overabundance of quarter pipes. They didn't even make the distinction between street and park. There's only a handful of things here that street skaters would actually skate. I was at this X-Games, and few skaters actually completed their runs. Compare this to the current Street League parks and it's night-and-day. Of course that never stopped a prime Koston from shredding.
I would like this to be playing on the large screen for all of the skaters as he is walking around talking trash in his latest videos. He is hilarious, but I would love to give them some ammo to dish it back at him.
I don’t think it would get anything near that. If someone did this same line in SLS I think I would get like a 5.2. He did 2 50-50’s, a switch tail slide & a kickflip nose slide that was about it. Then there was the little 360 at the end and the small grab off the ramp. Honestly I think it would be even lower than 5.2, maybe even 4.5
@@snowyrox3331 yumeka oda is throwing down kickflip front feeble down big handrails in her runs now, may have been a first place run a few years ago though

I knew a lot of kids that used to wear those Koston 3s because they're the only skate shoes that look like Jordans. They certainly look like them from a distance.

But Sal on the call? Bonkers
Crazy how much skating evolved from 2000 to today
Those Koston's were sick.
es Kostons were my go to for years, I still wear es because of him.
@Haven-Kai-Arias-Dad accels are my go to nowadays, they are perfect
For realllll 💯…I forgot about those I gotta see if I can cop a pair of those today, those were legendary for sure 🙌🏼!!!!
Damn, I saw this run live on TV when I was younger. Now being 34 takes me back when my dad and grandma where still alive. He watching silently but amazed and my grandma cooking something.
Crazy how we all have similar memories connected to skating back in the day. Just turned 32 & still keep up with skating as if I never quit

Its crazy to think if they put todays skater back in the 2000s
Today’s skaters are only what they are because of the early 2000s😂
@@IHatePikeysexactly lol.. “standing on the shoulders of giants”
The park was trash too.. koston could have done then a pretty good run even by today's standards in the SLS kind of park
Such a dumb take lmao
@@dmtc6913 lol yeah the parks were super trash back then
Those K3’s!! I remember when he did the lakers colorway after the 3 peat. You had to be there.
This run wouldn't even get bronze in the women's division today. Crazy how far sk8ing has progressed
I didn’t know why more people aren’t mentioning it. The upgrade is beautiful!
Seeing those k3’s brought back many memories of me learning full cab flip. Fun times in the early 00’s
2000 Koston = peak Koston
Totally.
That “street” course was crazy, but Koston made it work.
thank you for the upload!!
If that were to be an SLS score, 3.5, maybe even 4.... .... Excellent run though 👌🏽
This reminds me of the Xgames video game on PS2
Facts
I miss when Koston was on Girl when I was a kid
God the 90s and early 2000s were magical.
Take me back
Today's skateboarding has elevated to new levels
Watching this is like easy mode

Koston is a bad ass
Incredible

Wow, Eric Kostone was ripping back then
Coming out forward
i love it i love oi il i love it!
More entertaining in this video than todays Xgames
Style for days.
Announcers were good on this one.
That one guy sounds just like David Cross (Tobias from Arrested Development)

Always wanted a pair of those eS Koston 3s lol. Basically Jordan 12s you could shred in haha. 👟
Back when style was everything
I wouldn’t call that “sticking” during the kick flip noseslide.
Damn he could've wrote a whole damn book while chillin on that hubba
Crazy park
Imagine the kind of tricks that would have gone down if the obstacles were the size that they are today.
These parks looks wayyyy cooler
they were so bad.
you put modern pros there, without a doubt un skateable.
Dude I miss these old park courses 😂
93.50. That would be about a 70 today.
That course is horrible to skate, modern skaters would have a pain to do a much interesting line there.
I don’t think it would get anything near that. If someone did this same line in SLS I think I would get like a 5.2. He did 2 50-50’s, a switch tail slide & a kickflip nose slide that was about it. It would be a 60 or lower, the level of skating now is insane
This is like a 1st place run in women's SLS today. No offense to Koston. It's just the bar has been pushed so high over the past 20 years.
@@snowyrox3331 yumeka oda is throwing down kickflip front feeble down big handrails in her runs now, may have been a first place run a few years ago though
Is that David Cross commentating?
Yeah
Wild how much more complicated street comps look compared to now watching these when I was a teen thinking like damn now it looks way more fun and better to skating comps today
Now days - a 9 year old Japanese kid would do this whole run switch, while adding in every flip trick under the sun and still score a 7.5 lol
And yet Koston had infinitely more style.
This was actually 2001. I recorded this on VHS and watched it almost every night. Such good memories

Wouldn't even make a Dan Corigan daily upload by today's standards. Still sick to see prime EK though
ballin in them 12s tho 👀
Now people are doing switch flips into nose crooks and flipping out
“nose crooks”?….As opposed to a tail crooks?
