Thanks for a really good video. I have never kept a GTP, but when I was a teenager I successfully kept an amazon basin emerald tree boa, which is generally regarded as one of the most delicate snakes. I saw a UA-cam video a while ago on this amazing guy who keeps GTPs in very large outdoor enclosures. He has a lot of these snakes, and has studied them for a long time. Juveniles live close to the ground, which explains the ontogenic colour change. Adults stay high in the canopy during the day, but come down to very low lying branches when they want to feed at night. For this reason, a water dish at high level may well be uneccesary. It might be good to have branches close to the ground, with plenty of artificial foliage, and to liberally spray this just before dark. You might find that your snake takes water from the drops on the leaves. For these snakes, the more height, the better: because they come down to the ground at night when hungry, extra height will give them more exercise.
john schlesinger - I’m curious about the video with the outdoor enclosure! Do you mind linking it?
Maria Christakos: Hi. Go to Australian Green Tree Pythons - Crittacam. Peter Birch talks to this amazing guy. Enjoy!
I'm 2 years late. But the individual who keeps these animals in outdoor enclosures lives in Australia. The natural habitat for one local of GTP. The is why they thrive there. Second, Adult GTP's don't stay high in the canopy. They primarily stay at love lying branches and move more horizontal than vertical.
Awesome video man, would you ever consider doing a video on how to make the perch you did? Love the design and look of it
+Aaron reinhart Thanks! I didn't make that perch it came like that. I believe they just hit it with a blow torch
Dude thank you for this video!
Thanks for watching!
Great video .
awesome enclosure!
+Adrian Carrillo thanks!
These snakes get a slightly greater workout in the wild. Finding ways of getting your gtp to move in captivity (without stressing it out) is very beneficial when it comes to defecation, hydration and digestion. In captivity they dont need to move all that much because they're safe... but in the wild it's a completely different story. Most people think they're a display only snake - I agree and disagree. If your gtp is handleable and relatively tame you should give it a workout every so often.
Shut up
No need for a perch water source. Let them exercise to get their own water. Also it’s fine to spray your snake. In the wild they don’t have umbrellas.
Good video!
Great content
how are you providing the heat source? I have a bp and a nicaraguan boa and am only used to undertank heat pads. and where exactly are you providing the heat sources? since they perch on the top of the terrarium, the top either has to be cool/hot and vice versa. so maybe you’re just using ceramic heat emitters? idk
Super awesome dude! What is prolapse??? I'm so glad you are real, you can admit that you made a mistake only to help others never make the same mistake! Keep being awesome!
+short cake91 thanks so much! That's what I aim for because everyone else is unicorns and rainbows haha. Basically internal organs fall out of the body. For example in the picture that is the urinary bladder which is more intense. Many times it's the anus, uterus, or hemipenes
Port City Pythons haha I say unicorns, sprinkles, and rainbows! 😆😆😆 That's what I thought it was, but I'd rather clearafy than just assume. Thanks for getting back to me! 😁😊🙂🤗
+short cake91 hahaha no problem!
Nice
I just picked up a farm raised biak before I read that they are notorious for having parasites. Should I be taking precautions?
It's always best to take precautions. Especially with imported animals
Update? Did it survive? Did you go to the vet?
Do GTPs have to be handled? Can you just make all perches removable and just take them out on a perch for deep cleans, body checks, etc?
Yes, they don't need to be handled
If you really don’t want to handle them that bad, perhaps you should think about a different snake.
Can you make it look like the rainforest for it
They do actually sell backgrounds for enclosures like that!
How do you dm on UA-cam? It's easy to do by yourself. Different humitity and heating depending on where you live. But "step by step" building a Rainforrest terrarium I can help.
Did you make the PVC branches or purchase them? If purchased, where did you get them from?
Those particular ones came with the enclosure
Would you happen to know of any companies that make a similar product?
Pvccages.com and apcages.com
how you arranged the humidity in the terrarium
Green tree pythons are not venomous
That is correct
Port, you brought up venomous... was that supposed to be an example?
I think that's where 1960 is confused
I know I'm confused by that sentence.
The cage was originally used for a venomous snake.
Are green tree pythons food aggressive ? And is it the male or female that gets bigger
hey i m thinking about getting a gtp or 2 - if at all in half a year or a year so i still have ALOT of time to get more knowledge but i was thinking that like an enclosure thats quit big (like: 2 meters high, 1,5meters wide and like 1meter deep-"panorama") but is that too big for 2 green tree pyhtons? or can an enclosure even be too big for snakes? especially "big" snakes like green tree pythons?
And i was planning on getting 2 young snakes (probably 2 female)- would it be alright to put small and big boughs in it? or would the small snake maybe hurt himself if it choices a bigger bough? i read that it could damage their spine when they are still developing
beside like i m not that knowledgeable yet about snakes and specially gtp's but that enclosure looks somehow small no? like 2 boughs and like 5 leaves and thats it 0.0
I would start with some other reptile. Also, one at a time. Check out Green Tree Pythons: Natural History and Captive Maintenance by Justin julander and Terry phillip
Port City Pythons will do - thanks!
I dont think he said they're venomous he said the enclosure previously housed venomous. Nice enclosure. Perches look too thick otherwise sweet.
I live in South Africa and we don't have access to heat panels .. what else could i use ?
You can keep ambient 82 degrees or try heat pads
Port City Pythons thanks
Heat tape on the outter upper side of your enclosure,or tape the heating pad to the outter upper side.or old school heat lamp at about 85degrees u should b good make sure your humidity is monitored also
How do you heat your enclosure?
Radiant heat panel
What is the heating panel called above the perch?
Radiant Heat panel
Just any brand or is there a certain reptile maker?
Hey brother, who makes this enclosure?
+Thunder's Slythering Dragons this particular one, the manufacturer is out of business. You can get very similar and probably better ones on pvccages.com
Port City Pythons thanks brother
Nice, what locality?
Do you breed GTP?
Jayapura x Sorong. I do not breed. I just keep one
@@joe_phelan cool!!
How big do they get fully grown?
5 to 6 ft.
Do you know anything about snakes
I mean if he doesn’t know anything about snakes he’s not happy I mean he shouldn’t have asked anyone to have a snake a sneaky sneaky little snake
chondros are awesome. Yes I am old school
+conservsyndicate haha they will be chondros forever
dang straight!
what size enclosure for an adult female?
3x2x2. Some prefer 2x2x2 though. These animals can be tricky so pretty much use what works
Port City Pythons Ty, I am getting an exo-terra 36x36x24 for a fully grown boy, lol.
Do you sell ball pythons
+Doughnutgamer Vlogs no, I don't keep any balls. My dad may produce some in the spring though
How is this snake not venemous, all triangle head snakes are venemous
It's because that is a myth.
No enrichmemt
I can’t comment on this, as I only work with Ball Pythons, boas, n smaller snakes, and I’m not trying to be malicious at all but.. isn’t this a bit.. boring? Like the tank is just completely white with only a couple fake plastic plants.. N a small tub as a water bowl. I always make naturalistic tanks and try and make them as natural as possible,
Sometimes simple is effective!
How much do green trees cost?
@@joe_phelan agreed. From my experience, gtps fare much better in a consistent and simple enclosure.
Also, my gtp is extremely tame and handleable for long periods without any ill effects. This means I need a simple enclosure where perches are easily removed to have access to the snake without disturbing his entire environment. If mine was aggressive I'd probably opt for a more complex and visibly pleasing enclosure and just leave it alone. But I got lucky with a very tame gtp.
I thought he was The guy from vampire diaries 🧛♂️
😂😂😂
ayy first
+Cainefan second! 😉
Add a bigger water bowl.
+CARPET CARTEL God damn it Evan didn't you watch the part when I talked about buying the perch water bowl holders from David Brahms Haha I think I want to wall mount 2 of those
@@joe_phelan 😂😂
I liked the video but mate..... Adult gtp grows to 6foot snake and you have yours in a 2 foot box.
Your a big fella, Imagine living your
life in the cupboard under the kitchen sink..... Cruel bastard.
Yeah during the day it's all curled up. At night there very active and need to be able to stretch out.
youre gonna kill your snake.....
I am? How is that?
