- It was not easy but I was able to replace the Cylinder Head Sensor on my 2013 Ford F 150. This was the first time working on my new "used truck" and doing something I never do; that is, work on trucks. But doing new things is one aspect of my channel so I went for it and was successful.
If I can do it so can you! If this video helped you please Subscribe! Thanks! - Навчання та стиль
Thank you so much! That sensor was impossible to see and near impossible to reach but your suggestions are the only reason I didn't give up. Much appreciated! One more thing that I learned, lean forward towards the bumper while reaching in there with your left hand to get better access from the wheel well. Also, the sensor points on an angle towards the firewall, so little ratcheting room. Be persistent and don't give up on it.
Thanks for the video, was a tight fit, the tip to get it from above was a lifesaver.
Glad to help!
That was a difficult for my giant hands and I have a few bloody knuckles to show for it. Thanks for the video, it saved me a lot of research and frustration. My dealer charged me double what you paid.
Glad I could help!
This is very helpful thanks!
There is an old internet joke that says "Ford actually stands for: Fix Or Repair Daily" haha I'm glad you were able to get this issue sorted and hope its smooth sailing from here.
Ya, I've heard that before but this is my first ford so we will be testing that statement!LOL, Yes, it's all working correctly now! Now just my fan running on HIGH ! Grrr I think the AC is overcharged.
Thank you for this video! I replaced my AC expansion valve after being told “that’s definitely the issue.” Turns out it wasn’t. I’m ordering one of these today.
This censer did not solve it for me either. Turns out it’s different for each truck so just keep trying things. For me, it looks like it’s the thermostat when it overheats and you reve the motor it suddenly cools down as u create pressure it releases the valve that seems to be sticking. Keep the coolest level full seems to be helping but need to chang the thermostat to find out if thats it.
@@Jasonsdesignshop found my issue this morning.
The thermostat has to be the exact MotorCraft part number the factory uses OR put in a 180°F thermostat. I did the latter and everything is running as it should.
@@KC-uw3fq Awesome that gives me hope to finally solve this issue. More then once did I think it was solved.
Great advice. I'm trying to change the sensor on my 2015. Seem very similar to yours. I spent 5 hours today just trying to find the sensor. Tomorrow I will try to get the wiring connector off.
Ya it’s not in a easy place.
Thanks for this video. I discovered it’s a very specific socket to do this. I found an old 3/4 3/8 drive I’ll try again tomorrow. My 19s are too long or not deep enough to go over it. Hope it works. I’ll get my son to help I’ll hold it through wheel well while he turns ratchet.
Ya it helps with two people for sure.
I just did my intake manifold gaskets the other day. Once it’s off there is plenty of access to the CHT sensor. The manifold is fairly easy to remove. Looks like a lot of work but really isn’t. I can have it off and back on in 30 minutes. The fuel rail is bolted to the manifold so as long as you pull the connectors and disconnect the fuel feed line the whole assembly comes off.
Thanks for sharing that!
Tanks for sharing. Well done video. Convinced me to let a mechanic do it.
Good idea.
What that cost?
@@denniscronin2626 the part was just around $35 2 hours work.
@@Jasonsdesignshop yes, your video was super helpful, I did end up doing myself after watching, I was just wondering what a mechanic changed to do it.
“Oceans” 🙏🏻
Good job! you are the man! lol
Dude thanks for the hot tip
So after a 700-mile trip towing an RV I can say the sensor was the issue and the temp no longer pegs hot.
This is actually much easier then the 5.4. You can do it from the top just remove the 8 mm ground on the passenger block to give you more room, and you can't miss. No rashes or scratches
Love it. Next time it will be easier!
After you replace the Sensor you are supposed to clear the codes in the computer or the problem might persist. I ordered a computer code reader but did not have it in time during the making of this video to add those clips. It was very hard to film back in such a tight space but hit the pause button when you see what you're looking for and that might help you see what you're looking to understand. Good Luck.
Thanks

Hello. I'm trying to change the cylinder head temp sensor. How did you take the cap/wire off the temp sensor?
It just unplugs I think. That was two years ago I could be wrong. 🤔
Mines a 2013. High speed fan is always on. Just about changed entire cooling system. I start it at cold engine temp gauge says warmed up. Thanks for your video. Here goes nothing. God bless you.
It did not fix my high fan but it might for you. I have learned the fix is different for everyone. I replaced the ac sensor but did not fix it. I released some ac coolest as the pressure was to high still did not fix it. I just use it to tow the RV camping so I gave up and never resolved the high fan issue. Let me know if you have success and how.
So i changed alot of parts of the cooling system. All after i changed the belts and ac compressor and clutch. I changed the thermostat with an original one mind you, which for some is the issue. I changed the sensor in your video
hoping it would be it but no luck.
However, i still need to check the freon levels and release if need be. Some techs say that it could be a ac pressure switch which i’m leaning towards as the culprit.
Have you changed your ac expansion vale located on the fire wall near passenger side? I did because some say it could be that. Our last bet is having a mecanchic see if there are clogs in the system.

@@vico.2514 Wow you are chasing this too! yes I changed the AC Pressure switch too., not fixed. I did not know about the expansion vale. Thanks Ill check that out. ya ready to give it to a mechanic and just say fix it! One guy commented that he was going to make his own switch to the dash and turn the fan on and off when he thinks it need to be on or off. sounds risky though, it's all interconnected.
is your AC low on freon?
i got a po128 code on my 2011 mustang 5.0 and don’t know if its a thermostat or sensor. if its a sensor i couldn’t even imagine doing it on my car knowing you barely have room on your big truck
Oh no. Start with the easiest thing. The thermostat.
@@Jasonsdesignshop it turned out to be the thermostat, but the easiest way to change out the sensor would be to remove the intake manifold. could be done on your f-150 as well
@@Dompass1999 ya I still got to change the thermostat and see it that fixes the high fan always running. And yesterday it pegged overheating in minutes of a cold start so that could be it.
I’m having the same problem on my 2013 f150 the cooling gauge starts going up and then it goes back down when I’m driving and fans are on at all time and loud i have the thermostat replaced from orallys I thing that’s the problem ima get a oem and see I’ve that fixes that problem
How do I get the wire connector off…is there a clip? Do you take it off from the top or inside the wheel well…can not see the wire connector so cannot see ho it plugs in
Good question! I cant remember but it was not an issue once we found it. I think it just pulled up and off. nothin funny.
anyone else have a definitive answer?
looks like a standard ford push in then pull connector. So you would be pushing down on one side with your thumb while pulling. In theory anyway because they often need a screwdriver assistance to release even when pushed properly.
You can just reach over from the top of the motor to change thse
Ya, once you know where it is.
What size socket to get the sensor out
Not sure I forget but it was one of the long ones for spark plugs
19mm
So what was the problem? Did it fix it?
Was saying that it was overheating but it actually was not. The sensor was malfunctioning I guess.
What is the other video you referenced?
sorry thats a year and a half ago so I don't remember.
so disconnecting the battery will not clear the code????
No I got a cheep code reader to access and clear codes on the truck computer. Amazon has them.
Just pull the fuel rail and manifold off ... sensor is easy to get to then ... about 1 hr Job
Yes that will definitely give you easier access. Rock on.
your saying pull the fuel rail and intake manifold and this will give easier access to the sensor? Do I still need to remove the tire and fender housing?
Sorry just saw this missed message. No need to remove tire anymore.
Just so y'all know if it's not tight you will lose a lot of antifreeze going down the road
Really? The cylinder sensor tapes into a coolant channel in the block? Good to know! Tighten it good friends.
And it's really hard to get to unless you got small hands can get it from the bottom of not than top must you a deep socket 19mm with flexibility ratchet for best access possible so if you need to get your wife out there to help or you girlfriend they can small hands best for that
My boyfriend cannot fit his hand back there and he was trying to use a socket, but the socket doesn’t fit
Find the right size socket and maybe a knuckle joint will help with the slight curve of the firewall .
If your fan is running on high this guys video might be your answer.

That wasn’t to hard .
