    You've inspired me to just wear my fro. I need to stop stressing about length retention and just let my hair be. So I'm just gone wear my fro and moisturize it. Thank you for showing me it's possible to love every part of yourself, especially when our hair type is not accepted by society. It's been two years since I've been natural and I e just been carifn for my hair in box braids. As of January this year, I've been wearing it out. And I've challenged myself to that for the whole year, to become comfort bake with my hair but also learn to truly love it. So thank you very much!

    Hey Joy-el, just wanted to clear up the aloe vera juice issue for you, Aloe Vera is a natural humectant, and humectants are substances that absorb/attract water, normally a humectant (aloe, glycerin, hyluranic acid, etc etc) would absorb (aka attract) water molecules (aka moisture) to your hair and skin which is why a lot of cosmetic products incorporate them into their products BUT most humectants work BEST in humid environments, that way the humectant can attract the moisture in the air and then your hair and skin can then absorb them thus keeping you moisturized.
    However if I remember correctly you live in an arid environment (Arizona, eight?) so b/c the air doesn't have much moisture/water the aloe was actually attracting the water out of you hair and making it easier to evaporate, thus making your hair dry. Solution to this is to make sure after applying a humectant is to properly seal the hair with an emollient (such as an oil, but there are other types of emollients), you did use argan oil but as you said without an emulsifier to keep the oil and water combined the oil is unevenly distributed on your hair, thus not sealing in the humectant and water.
    Also forgoing a humectant (by itself) in an arid place is also a solution, like just using water and an oil should be just find but the leave-in conditioner is probably the best for you where you currently live as it already has the humectant, emollient , and emulsifier in it all together to get the job done. I personally live in humid Georgia so I love Aloe Vera and it helps keep my hair hydrated/moisturized b/c it attracts the moisture out of the air towards my hair for my hair to absorb.
    Hope this helps :)

    Yeah the aloe Vera Juice, mixing with water dried my hair out..... Even if I use aloe Vera alone, still dries my hair out🤦🏾‍♀️ Water + leave in + Oil is my best refresher spray.

      Hey, i just posted explaining aloe vera juice and why it might be drying out some people's hair, i don't know where you live but if you live in an arid/dry place then yes it will make your hair more dry b/c it is a humectant and humectants absorb/attract water, so you will need to seal it in immediately after putting it on your hair with an emollient (like an oil). But water+leave+oil works just fine too :)

    • @internationalspectrumcosme7142
      @internationalspectrumcosme7142 7 місяців тому +2

      I'm glad you said that because I stopped using aloe vera. It does mimic a protein and for low porosity hair that's an absolute no, no...
      It will dry your hair out and cause breakage so I have eliminated that for my routine and my hair has been a lot softer as a result.

    • @Ferrist1
      @Ferrist1 4 роки тому +4

      She shows us in her afro video. It's pretty much what she did here, but first she allows the steam from her shower to loosen it up, revives it with the spray, then fluffs.

    • @neoagegirlthemaverick7468
      @neoagegirlthemaverick7468 4 роки тому +3

      A way I help prevent and treat matted hair (I have mainly 4c hair) is to pre-poo with 50/50 cheap conditioner and oil (I use olive) my hair before I wash it and let it sit for about 30 mins, then I gently detangle the hair (I personally love the tangle tweezer type brushes) from ends to roots then wash my hair. It has helped me cut down on breakage and mattes, I also have low porosity hair and I think low porosity hair has a tendency to matte when going from dry to extremely wet, especially if you are using a sulfate based shampoo which is fine, but sulfates do strict away ALL moisture as well as oils and dirt and that is usually when my hair gets matted, in the shower after a shampoo.

    • @Taj-Mahal
      @Taj-Mahal 4 роки тому +1
