A very useful video, Dan, and well demonstrated. When I discovered my cassette was leaking recently, I followed your instructions carefully and replaced the lip seal successfully. During the job I encountered other bits falling off like the white plastic device at the bottom and the blade developed a mind of its own during reassembly. Eventually though, with the job done, I tested the seal. Water still leaked out. In fact the seal that had failed was the plate seal around the rim of the mechanism. I've ordered a replacement and thanks to your video it will be a quick job to replace that.

Thanks to your video I was able to change the seal and replace the blade which was broken. I had no idea you could take the cassettes to pieces so the video has saved me a fair few pounds at a dealer. Many thanks Dave

I had been building up to tackle this job. I knew I needed a clear and concise video to help me change the seal on my hard worked, family caravan bog. This video was just the ticket. I look forward to many more years of fault free toilet action. Thanks.

Just the ticket. My four year old cassette seal has just failed and this video shows I can replace it myself in less than half an hour. Never would have thought that.

    Hi Dan,
even if the video is a bit older I have now benefited from it. Very well shown. 👍

    Very,
very useful video, just replaced the lip seal on my 2010 model, just a couple of points,(1) the tank cover would not move using your method, so I had to open the blade and grab the sides before it would move in to the unlocked position, (2) due to this I cleaned both the tank seal surround and rubber seal and then sprayed with the lubricating spray before reinserting.

Well made and useful video. I had to strip my C250 because the circular blade had parted company from its arm - the small plastic spigot holding it in place had sheared. Good news - the plastic reacts well to being superglued, so I have reassembled it glued back together.

Thank you, and still very relevant. Once I got the internals off, I also had to take off the 'keeper' which made it easier to resit everything.
Thetford charge like wounded bulls tho for a replacement seal tho.
best tool is an old bent toothbrush to clean everything up.

Thanks Dan. Video really helped me out and I was able to replace the seal. However, a few other tips which may be of use for other caravan dIYers. My cassette I'm assuming is 8 years old , same as my caravan and therefore the top moulding which holds the seal and mechanisms etc was extremely tight and I was unable to turn it to the open position with the sliding cover. I used a piece of 12 mm wood cut to approx. 8.7cm wide by about 50 cm long, inserted that between the top cover guides and was able to twist the top moulding to the open position. 2nd useful tip, once I disassembled the slider etc. I gave everything a good clean, fitted the new seal and re-assembled the moving mechanisms. However everything was a bit tight and clunky, so I slightly loosened off the screw holding the blade in its pivot soaked everything in olive oil (virgin by the way), worked everything to bed it back in and it started to ease up and eventually worked nice and freely.
Again thanks Dan, you made the whole thing easier.

Good tip about using a length of wood to lever the mechanism round. It worked for me.

This is a really helpful video. My only comment is that the video makes opening the circular top look fairly easy with a strong push. In reality I had to tap the blade used as a lever quite hard with a mallet to get it to open (with a risk that it would break).

Thanks for the nice video, I was able to repair my camper toilet, which suffered from bumpy Latvian roads so that some elements of the slider mover had dropped to the container. Now its back in operation again ;=D.

    Hi Dan,
Excellent video. We're having odour leakage problems with our Thetford toilet, so hoping that a new seal will help to allieve these issues!
    Thanks again,

Is replacement of the seal an age related thing ,as car tyres are or do it when you notice that it is hard to operate.

The white part has gone. How can I fix it again and is it important at all?

  • @harrycapper69

Very helpful indeed. However I am worried that as my seal has leaked will the leak remain within the unit, as opposed to ruining my caravan floor.

Hi, did you solve the leak on your floor? I have a pink fluid all over my floor and wonder if the seal is the issue?

@@DrJBarnes I changed the seal and just cleaned every thing up. I made sure that when I was towing that the cassette was empty. Every thing has been fine since.

  • @newheat64

impossible to refit to cassette will not sit properly, and no I'm not stupid I'm an engineer and the rubber seal will not allow refitting did you refit without the main seal in place to make it look easy
