@XDranzer000 As far as I know It's because of European music history! :-) The 'Suite' form developed in France in 17th century. Musicians and composers were very curious about what was new in music and they traveled and corresponded a lot more than you would think! The suite with the french names was very popular until mid -18th century. Sometimes called Suite de dances or Ouverture or Partita.

For me, it’s Enrico Dindo’s, then Rostropovich’s, but this is a fantastic interpretation. Really getting a lot of wild character from that baroque bow, fantastically different to conventional interps. Wow
I really really love this Performance!! I can't tell why but every other interpretation of this piece from other cellists sounded lifeless to me. Pincombe did a great job and I would love to hear his interpretation of the other suites with this kind of emotion. Thank you Steuart!
This was the description of life itself. It starts calmly then gets to the excitement and joy of youth but then the joy is interrupted by great sadness and melancoly. The sarabande is the turning point, the crisis that tempers human life. The menuets are the coping with life's adversity, the acceptance and resignation to its imperfections but also humankind's resilience to withstand difficulties and at last the synthesis of life and death, good and evil. I admired most the interpretation of the sarabande. Such outcry of pain, strife and misery, the cellist surpassed the possible! His instrument became the human voice of ignored supplications, fervent pleas, anxious plaidoyers, it was great and terrifying, violent and complaining at once, it was the catharsis of life and its sense. I salute this cellist with respect and admiration.
That "Minuet I" totally blew my mind. I've been hearing it wrong and playing it wrong for years! This recording is the first I've heard that makes the pulse feel correct; I just didn't realize it before. Awesome.

This man is incredible... when he plays, it seems that all the depth of the world emerges and that creativity overflows, to get out of any other interpretation of this work. A true and rare artist, a light among the shadows. People like him are going to bring public back again to classical music.
The Allemande of this piece remains my favorite playing of a Bach piece, Wen Sinn Yang's performance of #1 comes in close as second. I enjoyed #1 in this series but felt that while it was more emotive, it was choppy. Bravo to the NBS but Wen Sinn Yang's #1 is worth searching for and listening to.
I was doing something else while this was playing. When it was over, I realized I had been unconsciously mesmerized. So I played the whole video again.
The depth of soulfulness in this interpretation of Bach just floors me. That's an amazing sounding instrument in the hands of a sound poet, too. Big thank you for playing with so much love and total emotional investment and technical finesse!
How. HOw. HOW! How can anyone remember every note and just play it off by heart? Magic! This guy is a freakin SUPERMAN. SUPER BRAIN. And yeah. One of the best musicians I've ever heard. My God! It is sooooo amazing!

Such beauty, one of the most magnificent recordings I've ever seen. A very rich interpretation of this 2nd Suite, loved it. Most times when the camerawork is overdone it only serves as a distraction, but this was so tastefully done, even during the fast movements. UA-cam recommend strikes again, I've discovered an amazing channel.

Bravo! Bravo! What a spiritually as well as musically satisfying experience! The tempos for the Prelude, Allemande and Sarabande are the first time that I’ve heard someone besides myself decide that they need to be slower in order to bring out the pathos and longing that is inherent in Bach’s sublime music. I will be sharing this performance with my students and fellow cellists. I can’t thank you enough for these 22 minutes of pure beauty.
I'm impressed how this video can translate Bach to a visual narrative. Excelent performance. Congratulations to the Netherlands Bach Society! Greattings from Brazil.

Just make it sound good. Also just realized this guy is playing old school style without an endpin. Sick.
It's because it is playing it in "old style", using a baroque bow, and the baroque posture, to be most historically accurate, I think they also tuned the cello with the baroque tuning, but I can't tell if it is a baroque cello or not
He actually used to be my teacher. He definitely has very high standards for his students and lessons are not easy. Still teaches rules about bow holds and posture.

Bach's music is so beautiful that there are no words to describe it ... I love it!
The 6 Cello Suites are the greatest achievement by any artist No matter who plays them , and this one is very good.
A beautiful piece, a beautiful interpretation, a beautiful instrument. Just beautiful. I am also impressed by some of the camera work, which makes it visually interesting. I can't thank you enough.
Sound is extremely full and warm
He makes it sound almost like a viola da gamba. His sound is very masculine, too. He plays with true fire and intelligence.
Bravo!
David A- what exactly does 'feminine' sound like - lacking fire and intelligence??
Judging by the bow and the overall position in which he is playing, he's using a baroque cello, so yeah, almost a viola da gamba
It was an excellent performance. Great camera work. You can not only hear the performer playing, but also see the work of the fingers. Thank you, I'm impressed.
Even though I doubt, there is beauty down in this world.... Dear Steuart Pincombe, thank you and Bach for your art...
Bravo! Brilliant interpretation!
The camera work in the Courante (8:52) really captured the passion of a remarkable performance. Wow!
