I am a native of California, but one of the greatest experiences in my life was praying in Japan. I have never followed any religion, so it was the first time I ever prayed. I was at a Shinto shrine (jinja) in Hokkaido. People washed their hands, threw coins, purchased small rolls of paper that gave their fortunes, and prayed to express their wishes to the Kami. I had no desire to wish for anything; I was moved to be grateful for everything in my life. I bowed my head quietly, closed my eyes, and let all of the blessings of my life flow through my mind. It was an experience of cleansing and humility. I've been to Japan eight times and on each occasion, I take time to repeat the ritual. While I can do that practice anywhere, including suburban Southern California, I found the atmosphere in Japan far more conducive to communing with 道.
You are actually describing some of Swedish habits in the 70/80:s. Miss the old Sweden. People were so respectful and truly happy. it's nice to see Japan holding up traditions.
Yes it is. I'm from the island of P.R. and I've taught these to my kids. All are heart felt intentions that make this 🌎 a better place. Grateful for this reminder that lil e-motions matter. 🙏
From Italy, I was tought to leave the place clean for the next. Such as bathroom sink, restaurant and cafè tables. We are used, even nowadays, to bring the cups of cappuccino to the coffè shop desk to help them keep clean for next customers coming.
Well, yes, I grew up in a small village in middle Germany with a lot of habits / traditions, some similar to those described here. Some I was very glad to get rid of, the "best ones" I kept til today. And I wish, people would think more in a kind and helplful way about their fellow beings.... Arigato❣
I want to thank you for the habit I have taken to collecting rubbish in the car park of my community centre. I carry gloves and have a spare bag in my car boot and arrive a little early. I feel fabulous walking from a yoga class through a cleaner environment I took time to beautify. I don’t even become annoyed at people who drop trash, rather I take pride in cleaning it up, feeling better with that happiness.
Whenever I see rubbish lying in the street whilst jogging or walking, I do that to. Especially when I can see a rubbish-bin not far away. Happy day ! ; ))
After losing 10 years to my chronicle disease, beating it after some years with strict rules for eating and change of living, I can totally agree with "you should be able to walk, breath and see". We already have everything we need but we need to appreciate it!
@nathanglynn7443 I have crohns disease! Look it's still there, beaten back but lurking, but oh oh oh! To not be in pain everyday, running to the Loo every other hour or bloated up with gas like a very confused puffer fish... I'll take it! 🥰
@@nathanglynn7443 I "had" Ulcerative colitis and I dont have any symptoms anymore since I reduced stress (clutter in my life and contacts) and totally changed my diet to asia food. I dont consume drinks with suggar and try to eat only food that has "one" ingredient.
I want to share a experience. I was hiking and on the path I was taking (it was in the forest on the way to a peak) there were a lot of large branches that had fallen to the ground from the wind, making the path blocked or difficult to walk on. Now I thought about the next person after me who would walk the path and took the time as I walked to pick up as many branches as possible and place them on the edge of the path. This made the path beautiful and I took a closer look at it. It was also tiring and took longer. But I was having fun and laughing at myself. Behind me, other hikers came up the trail and saw me picking up the branches. At first I was embarrassed that they saw me doing something so strange. But when I turned around a little later, I saw that they had also started picking up branches from the path. How nice. I was happy about this effect. Love to all of you
It feels good to do the right thing. It feels good to go out of your way to do something that is not for your own benefit. It feels good to go about seeing ways to help others , even if the task is small.
Your videos are the best thing that happened to me, ever since I started watching, I became minimalist, cleaner, more responsable, now my house is always clean and neat, and I dont procrastinate anymore, I wake up early and organize everything I have to do, I started meditating and being more grateful for my life. Before finding your videos my life was a mess, myu house was always dirty and a mess and I would forget to do the thing I had to do and would leave everything for later. Thankyou so much for your good peaceful videos that help us see what really matters in life. Love from Brazil.
The more I hear about China and Japan, people’s traditions and attitudes, I realise that Israelis definitely have more Asian traditions. Israel is geographically a part of west Asia and maybe that’s why so much of what you said here reminds me of Israelis.
Thank you for the motivating Video. I have been practicing some of these habits for a long time, but it is still helpful to keep thinking about them again and again. This way of thinking has helped me a lot even in difficult times. Greetings from Germany ❤
Congratulations on surviving your serious health crisis and, subsequently choosing to spread joy throughout the 🌏 🙏 An excellent example of what's possible.
Arigatou! This video also brought tears to my eyes... I also open our balcony doors in the morning, recite a little prayer of thanks and sun bathe. Didn't realise that it's a Japanese habit from the past. Just started doing it when my life became challenging and I needed a solemn moment in the mornings for myself. It then became a habit that I do everyday for over 2 years now. It does set the stage for the rest of the day. Oh, and another awesome thing about sunbathing in the morning is Vitamin D. It made me less sickly and a lot happier!
Arigatou for this video! It came at a really scary, horrible time for me (as an american). It is a vital reminder that I Must carry on, by focusing on gratitude and being thoughtful, empathetic and kind. 🙏

Arigato Aki! Mucho gratias! Merci Beaucoup! Ever since I was a child when I accidentally "hurt" a physical object I would always apologize to it. It came naturally ...kind of like stimulus response. I never understood why I did this...Maybe a deep rooted respect on an unconscious level...still never figured it out. Respect for physical objects or a room is also shown when we take care of them.

Hi Arigato for your video! My wife is Japanese and I have visited Japan many times. In fact, I was supposed to be there right now visiting my wonderful mother-in-law, but we had to cancel our trip at the last minute. My wife and I have several cats and they all got sick and we could not leave them. So I am watching videos about Japan tonight which is how I found you! I love everything about Japan, but I think the best thing about Japan is the Japanese people. I have travelled around from Hokkaido to Kyushu and every day I make a new friend. I have never met an unpleasant person in Japan and I always say everyone in Japan is nice. (My wife says that isn't really true but I don't believe her!) But one thing that I have noticed is that people in Japan seem to care about others even if they don't know them. So it isn't surprising to see that they wipe off the table or wear a mask when they are sick. And the idea about living in the moment is an important aspect of Buddhism so it makes sense that you mentioned it. Another thing I have noticed is that Japanese people like to be comfortable and enjoy themselves. There is nothing better than visiting an onsen, or curling up on a futon. Or enjoying a kotatsu in the wintertime. And the food is incredible! It is delicious and healthy too! I try to remember all of these things as I go about my life in America. I realize that Japan has problems of its own because we are all human beings. But I think that the fact that one of the most important things in Japan is showing coutesy to others is the reason why it is such a wonderful place. I hope that you and everyone in Japan has a wonderful New Year!
You're such a joyful dude that I watched this video with smile. I'm from eastern Europe and we have quite a culture of politeness but people here are not very gentle with themselves and forget to live the moment. Subbed for more of this kind of wonderful videos.

Hi Aki! I found your channel a while ago because I live minimalism and matcha just like you! But what i found is now so much more profound... I love the explanation of thank you in Japanese.... To me saying thank you is a feeling.... I even say thank you to my washing machine...I love the way Japanese children are taught to care for their space from an early age, keeping things clean and tidy and the respect for their space. You are right about the making people's jobs a bit easier... Life is hard enough without making things difficult for people. I was brought up with the concept, your mess your responsibility to clean it..... Arigato....Thank you for the joy you bring.
Beautiful brother!! Always learning something new from you! Awesome to learn about the amazing traditional japan and the meaning of words! ARIGATO!!! ❣
I was hoping I will see you in person when I visited your beautiful country last April but I don’t know where to start looking. I will start looking for you again when I return to Japan. Arigato for this beautiful video. I am a 80 years old grandma from the Philippines
Aki: I have so much arigato for you and your channel. You've taught me so much, and continue to do so. I've adopted so many uplifting habits from you that have significantly improved my life. Now, I will begin showing respect and thanks to my spaces, laugh more, wipe down my counter tops, and keep trying to memorise the word "tadaima". Thank you for sending your wonderful content to us, Aki. Arigato (deep bow).
I am so glad I stumbled onto this video! 😂it is wonderful how you made my day brighter because of you being happy and smiling. I also almost died from a collapsed lung several years ago. I will make it a point to watch more of your videos and be a much happier person. You have made a change in my view of life and your "ripple effect" has reached me. Arigato!!😊😊😊😮
Lovely. What I got from this: be grateful, be present, be respectful - of others and places you share, and nature is good :) I live in a rural area of mostly older people, many of which only have contact with others when they're out running errands/shopping. One day I realized that, my friendly smile may be the only kindness they find that day. I hate it when people tell others to "smile more", but it really helps me have a better day, seeing that kindness reflected back to me. I'm a former server and customer service professional, and trust me, little actions that make that job easier are lifeblood. Take a trolley/buggy/cart in from the parking lot and don't leave one there. Don't leave a huge mess all over the table, make an easy to grab pile near the edge. Don't splatter soap and water all over the public bathroom, wipe it off when you're done. Show kindness, show grace, show respect.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I am so ready to learn more about Japanese culture and traditions it really seems to me that they are life-changing. I am so wanting to visit one day. I am ready to change and ready for it. Thank you so much. You are amazing.
Arigato. I love the things you shared with us. It’s so important to appreciate the simple things in life; this brings good mental & physical health to the human body. ❤️🙏❤️
I have practiced Bujinkan, where you bow before entering the dojo. For the same reason as you mention in the video, but also because the bow shows "Now we train" and leaves out everything that happened during the day. Regardless of whether it is good or bad. We are there to train, and focus on the training. Domo arigato gozaimashita. 🙇🏻
Arigato! I like the fact that these sometimes mundane habits, such as wiping the table, have a deeper meaning and purpose. Spiritual intent translated into practical application. Subscribed.

Great video, a wonderful reminder of our responsibilities to ourselves and others. ❤❤❤
Your positive energy is incredibly contagious. I could not help but smile. Arigato!! You helped to set the tone for my day.
It's kinda fun I happened to watch this viedo on Christmas day, when people say "thank you" (grazie) a lot. Arigato!
Lovely, simple things that do mean so much. 💐 Thank you.
Beautiful. Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.
Beautifully presented. Arigato.
Lovely. What I got from this: be grateful, be present, be respectful - of others and places you share, and nature is good :)
I live in a rural area of mostly older people, many of which only have contact with others when they're out running errands/shopping.
Beautiful vdo. Thank you for these beautiful gestures and sharing .
I’d love to know this guy and be his friend. Such a positive force in this world.
Thanks
I have practiced Bujinkan, where you bow before entering the dojo.
For the same reason as you mention in the video, but also because the bow shows "Now we train" and leaves out everything that happened during the day. Regardless of whether it is good or bad.
We are there to train, and focus on the training.
Domo arigato gozaimashita. 🙇🏻
Arigato! I like the fact that these sometimes mundane habits, such as wiping the table, have a deeper meaning and purpose. Spiritual intent translated into practical application. Subscribed.
This is lovely!! Thank you so much for posting!
Arigato. So meaning full 😊😊😊
Your most beautiful video! I truly appreciate it. Arigato.😊
