Kayak Cover Make it Yourself

Chaz shows you how to make your own kayak cover and save some cash. Keep bugs and spider webs from your cockpit with this easy to make cockpit cover. If you have more than 2-3 kayaks it'll be more cost effective to buy the material and create your own covers. They may not be pretty but they work... function before fashion!

I thought about doing that but I wanted something that could handle the wind while traveling on my car roof rack to cut down on resistance. Your idea would totally work for keeping bugs out while storing. The extra time it took me to sew was quality driveway beer drinking time so it was a win-win for me. Thanks for watching!

I know that these covers are supposed to be freeway-safe but I am afraid of losing mine at 75! My main goal is to keep bugs and cats out when stored and rain out when camping. Raccoons will see it as a barrier to potential food and their teeth are stronger than any cloth I can afford so will leave it off at the site.

The cockpit lip on my different kayaks vary in depth and lip width, some covers stay put when traveling if the bungee can really grip and not slip off. My covers are mainly to keep spiders out of when stored in garage or at the campsite. Good luck with your creation!
