Randy, if you ever start a paid guide service I would pay to hunt with you. So much knowledge and a great guy. We don't always get to harvest every trip, but just being out there is a blessing.
Itd be nice and he would always have work. But like he's sadi time and time again, the people he spends his time with has gained highe4 importance. He's also ages every year, and guiding goes against his hunting career ethos. It would be nice to at least get some instructional training on how to go about finding animals, stalk patterns, and all that kind of stuff. I think that'd be up his alley for sure.
I tore my right calf muscle in half back in January and was with my leg up for 5 weeks. This channel and the YBS or Youngbloods channel kept me sane. I definitely felt like I lived through them. Cheers!
I felt your cold and wind and frustration, just like I felt all those years chasing elk, I lived in Seeley Lake and wore out the mountains around it, I finally quit chasing those things and enjoy it again watching your video stories. Dont feel bad for me I still got half a freezer full of royal. God Bless
I feel for him, but what a place to hunt. It was only last week my wife asked if I would ever go back for a 5th visit to hunt in Montana, I replied no, I'm 60 next year and 4000 miles way, but then I watched this episode, I guess you can never say never! Thanks Randy!
@@maxcorder2211 if I had a tag I would, SW MT is where I have done most of my hunting, I bet you would beat me up the mountains, there is still a future in hunting for me if you are 75 and still doing it, well done you!
It would be a dream come true if I could go back hunting in the grizzly bear country with my son for a deer or elk. He is a retired scout sniper who was raised by this old man who raised him hunting on the family farm in southwest Texas. I'm positive that his old ass dad can still get it done, just need him and Diego, his jarhaded machine gunner buddy to go process and pack out the thing for me. I'm 64 and still hunting with my handloaded Howas and vanguards. Don't have to reload for my beloved 243 though. Hunting in the places that this hunting was filmed would have been a tall order for my beloved 30/06 with the longer distances involved, so I would have to tote my 300 winchester Vanguard with the composite stock sighted in at 300 yards at the same elevation before hunting for elk. For deer hunting of any species my favorite gun is the 257 Weatherby Vanguard. This gun punched a single hole the size of a watermelon seed when I settled on my hunting load for it.
Fantastic episode! Getting skunked blows but I really do enjoy you guys posting videos showing that it happens to even the best, most experienced hunters
Critical people like you don’t realize how much you own that has been made over seas. Probably your vehicle, along with MOST of your house hold belongings.
I loved the video! The snow, the fires, the relaxed glassing! I loved the hiking and definitely the scenery too! For me hunting is more about the chase and the experience than the actual kill. Thanks Randy for keeping it real and another great video! Good luck Carson!
Just finished my most likely last ( due to health) elk hunt. It's always been about being outdoors and matching wits with a formidable animal. God Bless America 🇺🇸
good call pulling back off that slippery mountainside....many mountain accidents occur in fading light when fatigued..hope to use my new gerber skinning knife this season...thx
I was hoping to see new or some product from Gerber. Darn. Tough hunts guys. That’s why we call it hunting and not grocery shopping with fantastic scenery.
So we can expect Gerber knives with integrated hand warmers? :) "Grizzlies in a Whiteout" sounds like a Stephen King novel working title. Its winter camping with something to do during the day. Love it!
Another example of why the call it hunting and not killing is can be the worst thing in the world one year and the next year u have to decide witch one to shoot becouse there ever where u luck that hunting good luck next time love the show
I live in bc Canada an when I go for a hunt most of the time I just come out to see the views. If I get deer or not, I could care less. Getting the animal is just perk
I like this question. Not so concerned about sponsors/brand. But when going out on a hunt like this late season what does your dress gear look like? I am also curious on early season.
@@cosmicchuck420 personally I have similar setup to what Randy uses. Sitka subalpine base layers, timberline pants, a nice Sitka synthetic jacket and I have a Patagonia down vest I use for layering. If it is early season or not that cold the base layer with the vest is perfect. Down to about 40 degrees or if I am moving around in colder weather. The jacket is good between 20-40 and below that I wear them both.
My daughter and I drew two bull tags in Nevada this year and I’m trying to plan my vacation days for the best opportunity at finding a couple good bulls. This will be our first bull elk hunt. Our season is November 5th-20th. Would you recommend trying for the first part of the season hoping the elk haven’t been pushed too much, or the second week hoping for some snow to push them down? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I'd go at the beginning. A week later you might have 100 less bulls to even go after. You never know if other hunters will push them to you as well. You'll make some great memories either way!
Fantastic Hunt! I’m trying to learn as much as I can about elk hunting before I go on my first hunt and this was very informative! I might’ve missed this, but what caliber and bullet did you take on this hunt? Thanks again!
My wife heard Randy’s story from New Mexico about the 5 alarm chili. And now every time she hears me watching an episode on UA-cam, she says “Oh you’re watching the diarrhea man”
Loved the hunt and all the hard work I am doing a 3rd rifle season bull hunt and 4th rifle season cow hunt here in Colorado you can come along if you would like. I enjoy your work and hunting ethic.
Hey Randy, I don’t rep a company but... I would be thrilled to cook and clean and also participate in a hunt... when you get tired of cooking and cleaning! :)
That part at 5:21, where's the Mountain House? You guys are being mistreated! Can I come on your next trip with this guy? Watching this today to get ready for bow hiking next week. I'm looking for cows and spikes though.
How about the last weekend hunt when you haven't seen elk or deer on public lands. All the track you come across is old and your are already 2 miles or more in.
Robert I was raised in montana an remembered when the sun river game range had close to 10,000 head of elk on it in the winter now it only holds around 2500 elk. Agree, make Gerber products in the USA again.
Agreed, does anyone know of good hunting clothing made in the USA. I am trying to get past China made Sitka
Well, now Gerber has a USA line. Just picked up a fixed blade. And no, my truck isn't made in a foreign country lol.

Up in Ruidoso NM. You're making it difficult to hit the lake for some fishing with this upload sir!
Nice episode, really nice to see the terrain. Loved the weather!
The last 2 years we've hunted as hard as you can go and just haven't gotten lucky. Alaska is difficult in some units.
Don't follow tracks as you crest a hill. Elk will usually be watching the crest where they came from. Go up hill on the crest to get a shot.
Hey Randy, What setups are you guys running for your camo? What base layers, jacket and pants?
He wears Sitka gear. Didn’t see any sponsors at the beginning, but Sitka has sponsored past videos of his, so he’s probably wearing the newest stuff.
