  • Randy Newberg has been applying for a Henry Mountains bison tag for 20 years, and in 2018 he finally drew one. There is a deep history of bison in the United States, and Randy revisits some of that history along with the conservation around this species.
Randy has a passion for wild bison. Follow along as he chases the largest of free ranging species in North America, with a bow. Along the way, Randy explains how the American bison paid the deepest price to establish the conservation ethic in North America.

Rod Eskelson I know what the billionaires are doing they are still conniving and planning to take our guns latest is Ivanka and Jared are pushing for red flag laws social scoring etc. to determine if you can own a fire arm and Trump is entertaining the idea. They will eventually outlaw guns like they have in other countries and totally outlaw hunting put you in smart growth zones and slowly kill us through GMO food etc.

We are killers. I don’t sugarcoat it. Our job is to kill it quickly. Thats what I train for all year long, to kill effectively and reduce the animals suffering to as little as possible. Definitely killing is not the part that makes us happy, its the success bred of hard work, days in harsh conditions waiting to prove we are the smarter animal. But make no mistake and no apologies, we are predators at our core, deep in our souls.

Ive been applying for 22 years in 4 different hunts in Canada and the USA. Still nothing. Im considering buying a guided hunt, but thats not really what I want. I want DIY. Ive done Dall Sheep and Rocky Mountain bighorn, many elk and moose, muley, whitetail, and black and Grizzly. Mountain Goat and Bison are by far at the top of my list for hunts right now.
Third is British pheasant shooting, along with Red Deer. That’s planned for next year. The wife gets London Shopping, and I get to hunt.

I took a big bull bison many years ago in South Dakota. I have never been that emotional over any animal that I harvested. It was a surreal experience to say the least. The table fare, wow that table fare.. you’ll never look at meat the same once you sink your chompers in a bison steak.
Mine was free range as well, and I remember the feeling of standing there and realizing… I’m out in the open with a Giant Bull 50yards away… and I’m holding a stick and string. I also remember bumping a herd and learning that Bison can run all damn day long… haha.
Thanks Randy and Crew, brings back fond memories.

This was awesome Randy. I talk with my dad who spent some time in Shilo Montana as a kid on the Bison preserve. The stories are of conservation and management for the most part. I have taken a fall just like the one you took on the loose rock that resulted in a double rotator surgery. We are not spring chickens anymore Randy. Be careful!

P.S. The best roast I have EVER eaten was a Bison Roast that I helped prepare at an Indigenous peoples community meal.

In town we get fantastic awesome local (mountain grazed) beef, and NZ venison and elk, but I always watch for the Bison. It's got something extra.

In a perfect world, Years of backpacking and scouting would happen before this day. In the world we live in, some other people would be sitting in "my spot" when I got there. Where we hunt deer, on public land, I have been posted closer to the road. All the people hiking to the end of the road push them back to me. Win win. It's been an education and a success.

Wow, great hunt and a great result you guys. Here in Australia we have huge tracts of Public land and it is locked up, no hunting allowed. We do not have the species to hunt as you have, but we have 4 or 5 species of deer, wild pigs and goats, all classed as pests, yet we can only really hunt them on private land and that can be difficult to get permission to hunt. Our Government is more happy to to poison these animals rather than allow licenced hunters to shoot them and utilise the meat. You Yanks are very lucky. Love your videos have watched heaps of them, great viewing.

Well get off your butt and get the laws changed. Poison will kill all in the food chain. Our animal conservation didnt happen over night, but the American hunters made it happen .
