Ran into this problem with my 2024 Chevrolet 2500hd, no 12 volt outlet! Plunged my Garmin Trend off road GPS into trucks USB C port, message said if you want full screen brightness, use Gamin 12 volt adapter. I plunged a 120 Volt AC power strip into Chevrolet outlet behind the rear seat, ran in under drivers seat to center of front floor. Bought 120 Volt to 12 Volt dc adapter to plug Garmin Trend in to. Very happy that everything is plug and play, as I did not want to mess with the truck wiring and upset its computer.
The good thing about the AC is that it only turns on when the engine is running. You will not risk draining the battery when leaving some device plugged in when parked.

Thank you for the comment! On the Custom trim and Pro trim since they use the previous interior still, they do indeed get a conventiona 12V port. When GM did the interior refresh in 2024 (for SLE/LT and higher trim) oddly they left out the 12V port. So you are exactly right in that your Custom has it, but the rest of folks with SLE/LT and higher trims are missing it. Kinda odd, but hoping they'll bring it back.
Should have bought the 2024 Silverado, mine comes with all the plugs lol. Thanks for the info, love knowing that kind of stuff, especially when camping.
I hear you! And, great point...the W/T or Custom models still retain the 12V outlet with previous gen interior. Maybe they'll bring the 12V outlets back for the rest of us in a refresh soon.
I tried several USB-C adapters, including a fancy one that would let you output at 5 VDC, 12 VDC, 15 VDC and 20 VDC, but it was problematic. In the end, I just went with a plain cord that converted USB-C to the old female cigarette lighter outlet. My question is, do you k have any suggestion on an easy way to keep this factory USB - C port on a 2024 Sierra 2500HD truck “hot” all the time?
@@AdventureRocks , Since the USB-C "power delivery" (USB PD) OEM outlet apparently drains power continuously (even at no load) due to the voltage conversion of 12 VDC to 5-20 VDC, I think GM always shuts it down after about 10 min of an off event to insure minimum drain of the main batteries. Accordingly, I think I'm going to just install a fused old fashion cigarette lighter outlet that will have 0 watts of parasitic power drain to run my white/yellow rooftop construction flashing light when that is occasionally needed during commercial Christmas Light work in the street when the truck is switched off. Thank you for your content!
Thanks for the video this is information I have been hunting for! I was worried they’d cheap out and make it a 5v C and make it basically useless. Would you mind checking the USB C in the back seat when you have a chance to see if that one is also PD
Good information... thank you... But why don't you want to use the add-on GM camera system with TPMS for your trailer? The added benefits of using the GM TPMS and camera system that integrates into the trucks infotainment system to monitor your trailer is already there. It is what we did for my 2024 ZR2 HD and trailer.
Great question! Here is the video on GM camera system: ua-cam.com/video/Tva4hGU3dzQ/v-deo.html And, this one for the TPMS: ua-cam.com/video/oa36cDIVyR8/v-deo.html
Curious about the GM camera. 2024 2500 and I have the camera plugs next to the 7pin plug for the trailer.... but the guy at the parts counter couldn't guarantee that it would work.... Said there might be some extra pkg u need for it. I have the camera system on my truck... can't see why it wouldn't work
I could be mistaken, but I think if you have the 2 plugs on your bumper then you're all set. You just need the camera system itself. My understanding is, if you don't have the camera provisions, you'll see a 4-pin connect instead of the 2x camera connectors. The camera system has worked flawlessly for me. I do know there is a different model for 23 and prior vs 24 and forward, although they look same.
Wattage isn’t the issue as it’s a calculated number as the product of voltage and current. If the Furrion camera requires a 12volt input, anything lower than that won’t work. People throw around wattage numbers as if it’s the end all be all answer, but it’s only an indicator of the total capacity of the system/port. If the correct combination of voltage AND current isn’t present, your end device won’t work.
Great question! USB with Power Delivery (USB PD) has different versions/specs, but the voltage is variable up to 20V in this case. So identifying the wattage helps determine if the port is powerful enough to supply power to an accessory. For example, the MacBook shown in the video uses an OEM charger with nominal 20V @ 1.75A = 35W. But, it'll take a higher powered charger concerning the watts/amps, as long as the voltage is in range still. And, with the Furrion it only needs a mere 12V @ 500mA = 6W, so that's how it is feasible in this setup. Basically just have to make sure voltage is between 5V and 20V and then wattage under 40W (Volts X Amps = Watts). I was surprised to learn how flexible USB PD is...it's been around for a few years, but becomming more popular to the point GM put it in the truck. And there are newer forms of USB PD that are even more powerful, but not found in the GM trucks, yet.
Thank you for the comment, and thanks for your patience. I was able to test the rear port out and I got 27W and 30W back to back, which is slightly less than the front port. It could be a fluke, or could be that the rear is slightly less powerful. Main thing though, is that the rear also supports USB-C PD (power delivery), so that's a plus.
I have a ‘16 Silverado that has two USB’s in the center armrest on the bench seat, one in the upper glovebox. In addition, the usual 12 volt cigarette type outlet on the dash along with the 120 volt. With more electronics these days, why are there less power ports? Also, what is the wattage on the USB and USBC in the back seat?
I hear you, the fewer ports seems odd. I wonder though if the USB with Power Delivery standard is what has changed things as before one could only send 5V over USB, but with Power Delivery one can do up to 48V and 240W. Granted in GM's application it appears to be the more basic spec, which I believe is up to 20V and potentially up to 40W. I haven't checked the ones on the rear yet.
Sorry, I am discovering there are multiple sellers on Amazon and some versions have the wrong popularity on tip and others are not PD (power delivery) compatible. I'll try to hunt down another more reliable ASIN for this.
Great question! The USB-C PD spec has variable voltage, but on this specific port a max wattage of 40 in my impromptu tests. My laptop shown was pulling 15V, so about 2.3 Amps. For 12V devices, should be compatible up to about 3.3A. The challenge can be finding a compatible PD enabled cable as some cables don't deliver what they promise.
I just got a 110 plug x dual cigarette lighter cause I have the back up camera and garmin gps, does the trick. Can you tell me about your exhaust? Sounds great.
It's the Borla, cat back exhaust system. GM offers it on the accessory website. But you can find it on the Borla site as well. I had one on my 2022 Silverado 2500. It's great. Sounds awesome. I've got a short video on my channel, too. Check it out.
Pretty decent. If you're asking about the built-in surround view on truck (front/back/sides) between the reverse lights (I upgraded mine) and headlights there's plenty of light to enhance image. Otherwise, fi asking about the GM trailer camera on my RV...I haven't used it a lot at night as for me it's more for getting into my campsite or storage backing-up solo. Of course no infrared night vision like the Furrion, so gotta have some light to help but I'm happy with it.
I was so dumbfounded, I could not believe the 2024 GMC Sierra did not have 12V port, I even opened the hood and checked if they put it there, no they didn’t. Had to buy 120V to 12V adapter 🤷♂️
The USB C to 1.35mm plug does not work. The Furrion 7 inch monitor needs 12 volts and the USB C only outputs 5 volts. The USB C to 12 volt socket did work. Apparently the inline box boosts the voltage from 5 to 12 volts.
I hear you...I thought USB was always 5V too, but concerning USB-C with Power Delivery (PD for short) the voltage can vary based on the wattage supplied to it according to the official PD protocol. For example, in the video here it is supplying 20V to the MacBook at 2.0amps (40W). With the latest PD 3.1 it can go up to 48V and wattage of up to 240W (USB PD 3.1)...again with the proper power supply feeding it. GM seems to have a previous PD standard in use on my truck, thus the lower wattage. I think the challenge is, while PD is an official protocol, not all cables and outlets advertised as being PD compatible comply with the protocol 100% so there can be compatibility issues. Here's a link with more info: www.usb.org/usb-charger-pd
have a 23 silverado 2500 HD and have 2 of these 12v ports....1 in the front and 1 in the back seat, along with USB c and house outlets.....have no idea why anyone would remove them from a truck.....bean counters saving $5 a truck seems ridiculous but you never know I think even the upfitter switches should be standard in HD trucks....they are working, camping, hauling, etc......its a work truck first and foremost then to what degree of comfort is the trim levels
Great points. I also wonder if the GM decision makers got some bad data regarding owner surveys and how many owners actually use the 10A 12V outlet...maybe the survey data showed such a low percentage that it caused them to decide in favor of axing it. Or, it could be one of those things that some of us may seldom use, but we consider it a necessity regardless.
The power adapter at the rear view mirror works sweet. I had the exact same Furion issue. There is a youtube video that shows putting a gen5diy plug and play harness from the mirror camera box to a 3.5mm barrel plug on a wire. Im sure there are competing solutions, but this works well. However, the website doesn’t list the 24 gm hd as compatible. I called and they verified it works. I installed and it does-well.
I have been a die hard GM truck guy for over 35 years. I couldn't believe it when I couldn't find a 12 volt accessory outlet in my new 24 HD. WTH GM? Anyone that uses a truck as a "truck" and tows knows you will need at least a 5 Amp 12 volt accessory outlet. This, among other discoveries, is making me rethink my loyalty to GM.
Great suggestion. That could be very helpful to have some more up top on dash where the accessories are typically suctioned to windshield. I remember my RAM trucks all had a 12V port on top right there and it came in handy.
I just ordered a 24. I have GPS, and Radios that need plugging into a 12Volt port. This is a problem for an alleged "truck" for the road. Unbelievable.
Great point...the Chevy W/T and Custom models along with GMC Pro do indeed retain the 12V outlet with older interior. Maybe they'll bring the 12V outlets back for the rest of us in a refresh soon.
Thank you! And, great question! Surprisingly on the new M2 and M3 MacBook Air, 35W is standard equipment. But, you can upgrade to a 70W if desired. I can imagine 35W sounds low, but the Apple silicone chips are very efficient, so less wattage required. I was surprised to see the truck feeding 40W to it though.
Thank you. Great point! It's my understanding the Chevy W/T and Custom trims with previous interior/dash still include the 12V port, along with the GMC Pro trim, but then the remainder with updated interior forgo it.
Hate to kill your party, but my ‘24 Chevrolet 2500 HD has both a usb port & cigarette lighter type plugs as well as a120 volt plug below the ac controls & another 120 volt outlet in the truck bed
@@JamesMcCall-n8s Great point! The W/T and Custom models still retain the 12V outlet with previous gen interior. Maybe they'll bring the 12V outlets back for the rest of us in a refresh soon.
Is that 40 watts at 5, 9, 12, or 19 volts? Either way to be honest, 40 watts is terrible. Thats like 3.3 amps. So 1/6th of that the old 12v outlets were capable of.
Great question. As best I can tell the 40W is max output regardless of voltage. With my MacBook in the video it was 20V = so 2A, but you're correct at 12V it'll be 3.3amps. The USB PD spec is kinda neat the way it can function at different voltages. Maybe it doesn't completely make up for the fact the 10A 12V outlet is missing, but it at least helps cover a lot of the devices we might use with a USB PD cable.
your trim level is so easy to add even few 12V sockets. I have no space at all for it in AT4X HD. I have my truck for a month and half and to be honest I have waaay more dislikes then likes about it
Great find! Now, before I go and spend even more money fixing all the deficiencies (adding 12v power outlet, buying adapter for my furion camera etc) please dream up all the other Easter eggs GM didn’t bother to tell us they fixed! And if you’ve been living under a rock so have I. Would have never guessed an in vehicle USB of any flavor would support anything over 5 volts (+/-).
I wish they would bring back a real cigarette light port. I don't even smoke but they seem to come handy when I had one. I ordered a Chevy smoking package in the past, and it came loose with a cup holder ashtray and a cigarette lighter to insert but no port to plug into. What a joke.
Sorry to hear that. I had a similar situation back in 2019 when I went RAM to Chevy, had to go back to RAM in 2021. Sometimes we get used to an "ecosystem" of sorts and those preferences are hard to shift. Superduty is a solid truck.

Yes if you have a custom you will have the previous generation interior which is 2019 - 2022.
Um, Silverado comes in HD too 😊
I just bought a 2025 silverado and it has nothing.
I gotta 2024 silverado ltz. Same set up this guy has
I used a dash cam wiring kit that plugs into the passenger fuse panel.
Great tip! I like this one, too:

I tried several USB-C adapters, including a fancy one that would let you output at 5 VDC, 12 VDC, 15 VDC and 20 VDC, but it was problematic. In the end, I just went with a plain cord that converted USB-C to the old female cigarette lighter outlet. My question is, do you k have any suggestion on an easy way to keep this factory USB - C port on a 2024 Sierra 2500HD truck “hot” all the time?
Sorry to hear about the troubles. I haven't looked into keeping it hot all the time, yet. Sorry I can't be of greater help on that.
Good info for us. I also bet it won't be long till the accessories stop coming with the 12V plug and convert over to the USB-C plug.
I hope so!
Garmin and Ham radio's say otherwise. This is crazy!
Thanks for the video this is information I have been hunting for! I was worried they’d cheap out and make it a 5v C and make it basically useless. Would you mind checking the USB C in the back seat when you have a chance to see if that one is also PD
@@CodyLeon Thanks for the comment. I got slightly less on rear port...I believe 30 or 35W if I recall.
Great find! I’m curious if this is the same for the 1500’s. I’m going to check!
Thank you. I think it should apply to 1500s with same refreshed interior.
Here is the video on GM camera system:
ua-cam.com/video/Tva4hGU3dzQ/v-deo.html
And, this one for the TPMS:
ua-cam.com/video/oa36cDIVyR8/v-deo.html
I have a plow safety light, just go a 2024 Sierra. So no 12 volt . What do I do .? Thanks
I hear you. Likely you'll need one of these (to use with GM's 400W AC inverter):

@@AdventureRocks thanks ,will order that…
Wattage isn’t the issue as it’s a calculated number as the product of voltage and current.
Thank you so much for this video!!
Thank you for the comment
So is the USB-C port in the rear another 40 watts?
Why not use factory aux cameras for inside and behind trailer?
Great question! Here is why I selected the OEM camera:
ua-cam.com/video/Tva4hGU3dzQ/v-deo.html
Sadly I have a few "cig" lighter tools, compressor , lights , cooler. I'd have to mount one !
Same here. Gotta rethink everything with my off-road accessories, and I have a '24 AT4 HD.
I hear you. Maybe it'll get added back in with a refresh down the road.
i agree i used that port i hate that it’s gone
Have a 2024 GMC 2500 HD AT4 and have a Furrion Vision S 7” monitor and it will not power the monitor with the USB-C to barrel connector
Sorry, I am discovering there are multiple sellers on Amazon and some versions have the wrong popularity on tip and others are not PD (power delivery) compatible. I'll try to hunt down another more reliable ASIN for this.
You never mentioned what is the voltage that comes out of that USBc.
Off the subject, I updated my phone to iOS 18.1, and having Apple car play issues it will not connect wirelessly
Haha my pro, work truck trim level ( unrefreshed) 2025 has a cig lighter socket right on the dash 😊
I'm jealous
I just bought a 2024 gmc denali and had no idea it didn't have a 12 volt plug. That's insane ! That's not cool !
Makes no sense for a high end Sierra HD not to have a 12v port while my 2024 GMC Canyon AT4 has one in the center console.
Thank you. I am really enjoying the Borla S Type. Here's a more detailed video with samples:

40w USB C PD < 12vdc * 10amp = 120w.
GM cost cutting down to the pennies.
So if you say want to run a mini fridge, you're SOL.
Usually it takes a 24 volt feed to fully power a PD port, some even need 48 volt.
How is your back up and front camera at night ?
Pretty decent. If you're asking about the built-in surround view on truck (front/back/sides) between the reverse lights (I upgraded mine) and headlights there's plenty of light to enhance image. Otherwise, fi asking about the GM trailer camera on my RV...I haven't used it a lot at night as for me it's more for getting into my campsite or storage backing-up solo. Of course no infrared night vision like the Furrion, so gotta have some light to help but I'm happy with it.
Good review.
@@ifish5409 thank you
I was so dumbfounded, I could not believe the 2024 GMC Sierra did not have 12V port, I even opened the hood and checked if they put it there, no they didn’t. Had to buy 120V to 12V adapter 🤷♂️
I hear you, I did the same thing initially.
Here's a link with more info:

My 24 gmc
Ultimate 2500hd has two …. One in the center counsel and one in the bed
have a 23 silverado 2500 HD and have 2 of these 12v ports....1 in the front and 1 in the back seat, along with USB c and house outlets.....have no idea why anyone would remove them from a truck.....bean counters saving $5 a truck seems ridiculous but you never know
I think even the upfitter switches should be standard in HD trucks....they are working, camping, hauling, etc......its a work truck first and foremost then to what degree of comfort is the trim levels
Tried the adapter, would not power my radar detector. Ended up going through the power at review mirror with adapter wires
Sorry to hear. Do you have a 2024 with same refreshed interior like mine in video?
I hear you. Maybe they'll bring the 12V back with a refresh.
Okay team pixel ... 👍🏾
They want you to use the upfitter switches
If they are going this direction why can’t they just put the usb ports on top of the dash where we’d be plugging in all our aftermarket devices?
Great suggestion. That could be very helpful to have some more up top on dash where the accessories are typically suctioned to windshield. I remember my RAM trucks all had a 12V port on top right there and it came in handy.
Recently I was thinking that a usb port on the back of the mirror for dash cams would be a great idea.
@@roadking52 Great idea. That would be useful. This one is pretty nice too:

I just ordered a 24. I have GPS, and Radios that need plugging into a 12Volt port. This is a problem for an alleged "truck" for the road. Unbelievable.
I hear you. I hope GM adds back in a conventional 12V port in a future model year.
Yes, please put the 12v sockets back in the trucks.
I have a 2024 2500HD Pro and it DOES have the 12V, so it isn't ALL of them, just the consumer trim levels.
Great point...the Chevy W/T and Custom models along with GMC Pro do indeed retain the 12V outlet with older interior. Maybe they'll bring the 12V outlets back for the rest of us in a refresh soon.
Yes
Great video. However, the MacBook’s smallest charger is 65W, not 35W.
@@AdventureRocks ahh got it. I thought you were showing a MacBook Pro.
All trim levels with a console include an AC plug.
That’s a lower trim truck my 2024 Sierra has 110 plug on dash and in console and 2 camera plugs on rear bumper
Great point. Ironic isn't it...we pay $$ and get less :)
Experinced the same with my Sierra 1500 Elevation, 2024...🙄
My 2024 has one brand new truck. No one added it for I'm the first owner
I hear you! Thanks for watching. Oddly on the Pro & Custom trims with prior interior they still get a 12V.
My '24 custom trim has one
Thank you. Great point! It's my understanding the Chevy W/T and Custom trims with previous interior/dash still include the 12V port, along with the GMC Pro trim, but then the remainder with updated interior forgo it.
Hate to kill your party, but my ‘24 Chevrolet 2500 HD has both a usb port & cigarette lighter type plugs as well as a120 volt plug below the ac controls
& another 120 volt outlet in the truck bed
Doesn’t make much sense to have no 12v but there’s a 3 prong in the center console
I hear you, maybe they'll add it back in for us in the next refresh.
@@AdventureRocks maybe , I’m still holding my breath that they’ll give us a bed outlet capable of 15 amps 🙄
your trim level is so easy to add even few 12V sockets. I have no space at all for it in AT4X HD. I have my truck for a month and half and to be honest I have waaay more dislikes then likes about it
Sorry to hear. I guess say AT4X is a sharp looking truck, though.
@@AdventureRocks and that’s where all my likes ends lol
Seriously
I hear you!
I wish they would bring back a real cigarette light port. I don't even smoke but they seem to come handy when I had one. I ordered a Chevy smoking package in the past, and it came loose with a cup holder ashtray and a cigarette lighter to insert but no port to plug into. What a joke.
I hear you, still would be nice to have dedicated 12V port. That's kinda funny about the ashtray and lighter provided, but no port.
Its dumb. My 17 High Country had 12volt outlet and 120 V AC in the console. They could have easily hidden away a 12volt port.
I’ll stick with my super duty
I almost went with the super duty, but I have a hard time with the whole fixing or repairing daily thing. 🤣
I regret trading in my superduty for the 2024 3500
Sorry to hear that. I had a similar situation back in 2019 when I went RAM to Chevy, had to go back to RAM in 2021. Sometimes we get used to an "ecosystem" of sorts and those preferences are hard to shift. Superduty is a solid truck.
