This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for doing the footwork on this.
Glad it was helpful! Anytime!
I've got a 24 Silverado and was also disappointed in the fact that there was no 12v plugs. I will be adding one in the front and in the back seating areas in the near future.
Great video. We have a 23' Silverado 1500 Crewcab LT Trailboss and what I did, I went to the passenger side fuse box by the glove box and used switched power fuse using the USB/charger. Works great. We can leave something plugged in without worrying about the battery draining.
Love that I found this out on the side of the road with a low tire… and no where to plug in my inflator. Extremely stupid… thanks for the help, adding a 12v cig plug
Nice! Best of luck!!
Nice! Best of luck!!
I checked for one when i bought my '24 sierra bcuz i heard they were removed and nothing. Why go backwards.
@@receded I’m sure it’s all about penny pinching
This was so helpful! Thank you for the detail and, more importantly, the links to the gear you're using. I have a 2023 Chevy Silverado TrailBoss and a handful of devices that require a cig plug... it's pretty frustrating because I can't use any of them until now.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks bud! My 24 2500 w/ full console didn’t have one and I need this 12v to power my screen for backup cam on my camper. I truly appreciate you doing this video and providing links to the parts you used! BTW, hey from Wheeling, WV!
Glad I could help!!!
Nice & clean install! It’s a shame Chevy discontinued the 12 volt outlet.
Thanks! I totally agree!!
Thanks! Going to order parts and follow your lead. I’ll bet you have +100k views by end of 2024!
Glad I could help!!
Nice work Dan 👍
Thanks!!
Anytime bud
You are in there put two in
Nice video. Good tip with the hole saw. I usually use a step bit for plastic.
Nice job. That hole there is for the upfitter switches which mine has installed at that location which sucks because now I need to find a location to put the 12v.
Hey Dan, nice video, thanks! Yeah, I'm STILL pissed at Chevy for yanking these and replacing them with USB sockets. I mean, there's nothing wrong with USB, convenient for phones! But USB is only 5 volts, and they are generally limited to fairly low current. Good luck trying to run an air pump off a USB socket!
Nice job too. I hate yanking panels off the dash because I'm always worried I'll break *something*. "Oh, that's a screw, not a clip! Guess I shouldn't have pulled so hard!". I really appreciate you blazing the trail and showing all the attachment points!
I'm definitely going to put 2 or 3 12 volt sockets in my new 3500! I have the upfitter switches, which are mounted just below where you put your socket, so I'll be looking for other locations in that area for my sockets. I'm also considering switching the outlet with one of the 5 upfitter switches - or maybe tapping into a 12 volt source that is live only when the truck accessory is on.
Thanks again, and enjoy your new truck!
Thanks so much!!
@@dansproshop I pulled off the panels this afternoon. My truck has a console, so the process is slightly different than yours, but watching you first was very helpful. The space in which you mounted your socket is occupied in my truck by the upfitter switches ... and there is not really a good spot I can find on the dash that gives me the room to mount the socket. So I think I may mount 2 sockets on the driver's side, in the pocket on the side (vertical) wall of the console (I wish UA-cam allowed commenters to upload pictures). The sockets will be tucked away in the pocket, so not in the way of my leg/knee. I just have to see if the wire running from the item plugged into the socket is in the way. It looks like it will work nicely.
Thanks again! 👍
@@BlaiserAid absolutely. Happy to help!
Gr8 video I'm trying to figure out how to get contact power to my usb usbc I know its some type of fuse placement in the passenger side, fuse box, but not sure which one it is
I used to drive acuras and they stopped putting those in as well as ashtrays in the early 2000’s the ashtrays actually had felt lining in them.
Nice work as Always 👌🏼🔥
I aldo make sur to use fuses when i do aftermarket electric stuff + i make sure to use a relayed power to avoid getting the battery dead 🤣
Nice answer to that issue. Thanks for the video. I am considering installing my cb from the Colorado I'm upsizing from. I'm thinking on the bumpout where the map lights are, but have concerns about how to remove the panel without damaging it. Any Ideas ? BTW every job finishes great with an IC/lite
Great informative and easy to understand video! Well done!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!!
I ordered a 110-12 volt transformer with a 6 foot cord. It was $40 at Home depot and they shipped it to my home in a few days. I can plug it in to the interior 110v outlet and lay it on the floor where it will never rattle out of the dash. When I leave the dirt I can plug in my inflator to the bed outlet and air back up all 4 tires without leaving the door open. You did a great job and it looks clean. Just not very convenient or worth the labor for me.
Got the same problem just got a 24 2500 HD and no where to plug in my camper camera. Thanks man.
Thanks for the video Dan. I’ve got a couple questions for ya. 1. If you’re hanging your camera display on the windshield, is that the closest location that would accept the plug? 2. My camera came with just pigtails, can I run that wire directly to the fuse panel, or should I wire it to a cigarette lighter like you did?
That’s the beauty of doing it yourself! Do whatever you want. If that’s the only thing you need power for, that will be just fine but I wanted the traditional outlet so I can use it for anything. Good luck!
Hi Dan: Great video! Question on the wire harness. Are both the plugs the same? (hard to tell in the photos). Can I plug two 12 volt receptacles into the harness? I'm thinking of installing two receptacles in the dash.
The plug ends are not the same because this harness was intended for a truck that already has a 12 volt outlet to ADD a second one. So one plug clips into the outlet and the other would have plugged into the factory harness. But either way. It works just fine
Thanks man. This is perfect and my weekend project.
Glad to help!
I was disgusted that my new truck had no 12v plugs but my 22 had 2 of them.
Great video !!
How about one in the console?
Is there appropriate power in there?
I want to run a cooler from the back seat.😢
I bought a 2024 Sierra elevation and after a couple months now I find it very frustrating not having an always on power outlet. I work 12 hour shifts and spend a lot of time in my truck, having to turn the vehicle on just to charge my phone or other device is ridiculous.
The amount of anxiety I experienced while watching you plan, measure and drill that hole in the dash was off the charts. I have the bucket seat options so I have a centre console so my panelling will be slightly different but I’m guessing behind the panelling will look exactly the same.
I’m willing to bet it’s very similar
There isn’t a 12V in my wife’s ‘23 Toyota. I added a fuse block under the hood of my truck for after market mods. Stay safe electrical malfunction (short) is the #2 cause of vehicle fires!
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you thank you thank you.
Glad I could help!
Awesomely done video - the best thank you.
Great Video
Not everyone will be doing it.
But, it great information to know
Thanks! And yes, I agree it takes a special kind of person to drill a hole in a new truck, but if you want it, there’s a way.
Perfect finaly some info on where to tap for power. Was there enough room to have that and add more usb on the side as well?
Yes. There’s enough room for probably 3 plugs there
Thanks for the video. I just bought a 2024 Chevy 2500 HD and I do have a 12v power outlet, BUT it goes off with the key instead of staying on all the time like the older generation. I guess I’m lucky I have a plug? But it’s still annoying it goes off with the key. Idk
Search videos for "hidden features": you may be able to switch a 50|50 fuse to make it constant hot.
@@briananderson7042 I did watch a few and unfortunately, that 3rd prong in the fuse location is not there on my 24, like it used to be on previous years. Don’t know why GM took it out.
Dan nice video...off topic question. The 2024 also doesn't have the overhead grab handle in the cab. Have you installed any of these.
It has them on the A pillar. I really don’t miss the over head ones to be honest
@@dansproshop I prefer the one on the pillar to the one overhead. I don’t end up clotheslining myself.
Dan: All should let GM know how stupid this plan was and demand the engineer that thought this was a good idea to be canned.
*My 2023 has cigarette lighter/outlet? So not sure why he’s saying they stopped putting in Silverados?*
Not in 2024's@@CaptainCurt07
This is stupid. Bought a 2500HD work truck with no power outlet.
@@williamgardner9596 I installed 2 of them low on the center panel. Pretty easy
The hole for the housing assembly is 1 1/4”
any 12V receptacle install for the 2024 GMC Sierra with the shifter in front of the center console?
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
My dad would take what look like really heavy lamp cord I'm talking really heavy heavy cord. He would put a 12-volt socket on the end of it. On the other end a couple of rather large probably two and a half inch copper coated clamps. It look a little bit like jumper cable clamps. That way he can have an adapter on the battery in case he needed to air up someone's Tyler Perry could just hook it directly to your battery and would not have to run it through the system. Sure you can buy that but it's so much more fun to make it and spend a fraction of the money 💰
You could just buy a 110 to cigarette lighter adapter?
One issue there is you need the vehicle to be running to invert the DC to AC then convert back to DC. I like my 12V receptacle to be able to power things when the vehicle is off.
I am echoing the sentiments of others that this video is exactly what I was looking for as I needed the lighter plug for the very same reason. I have the entire thing installed ready to be connected but I can’t seem to get the 90° spade connector on the available fuse terminal. Did you modify anything on the fuse panel? I ordered the one in your parts list. Can you show me how to fit it?
No modifications needed. Just some patience and maybe some curse words. It does work. I swear
Where do you find the part to put into the fuse slot. I only find parts on Amazon that need modifications. Its a 3 pin fuse
Great video brother!
Thank you!!
Actually, the battery run-down protection wizardry should kick in and save your bacon if you leave something plugged in and turned on. Or spoil your bacon if it happens to be a fridge
Haha. I see what you did there!
My 2024 Trail Boss has the cigarette plug.
For some reason, it’s still on the lower trim levels, apparently paying more means you get less. 🤷🏻♂️
The link for the cover at Amazon is in Black or charcoal color. I need one in brown like yours.
The one I used in the video is black
Exactly what I need, but please don’t tell me I have to remove my console to take that center panel off. I’m going to look for a video of removing that panel to see. 😂
Amazon has an adapter. Plugs into a USB-A or C and steps up to the cigarette adapter. Only $12. No drilling or panel removal.
Dosent work. I tried that first. They do not supply enough amperage for most stuff to work. You may get away with smaller things like charging your phone, but that kinda defeats the purpose of
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I hope this helps!!
Will this work on a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
Technically, this process will work for any vehicle, this video is just specifically on the 24 Silverado
We'll done
😂
Such a stupid decision by GM. Not only do the USB ports suck for charging, which is the only thing they're good for, but everything auto related that plugs in has a cigarette lighter end on it because they've been around for 70 years! Great how-to that I'm going to tackle this evening. 👍
Thanks! Good luck!!
Really odd, my 2024 Chevy Silverado has one as well as an actual 110 plug.
No cigarette lighter, how am I supposed to recharge myself! 😳😆
Questin: is the 12v supplied all the time or only when the engine is running? I hope the 12v is not running all the time so that the battery is not drained when the car is parked.
All my dash cams and TPS systems are all USB. It was much easier and cheaper just to get a small USB multi port.
Anyone know where to pickup a cicuit thats switched through the ignition?
So stupid that they didnt include one. Cant use 12v emergency tire inflator or the strobe light kits for construction guys. Anything that requires power and advertised to be used it in your vehicle, you can't use it.
I believe it’s still included in the lower trim levels like the WT
@@Mypocketshurt it's included in the base models cause they still have the old style interior.
@@realestreaIist yeah when I was shopping for a new truck, I'd see one that was a decent price and looked nice on the outside then you see the interior and it's the old ass interior. I finally just said screw it and bought a brand new elevation.
@@Mypocketshurt I got the elevation aswell. The pro sierra and the custom silverado still have old interior any trim line above that has the new interior. I got the elevation cause I didn't want all the chrome grill and bumpers.
@@realestreaIist the elevation limited also had the old style interior.
Another reason why I would never buy a GM product. I'm currently renting a 2024 2400 and I wanted to plug my radar detector in and there is no plug anywhere. Absolutely ridiculous. There are still many uses for that type of plug
that was dumb they got rid of it
