I will add, in my interview where I currently bartend, I did get the classic “tell me about yourself” question and I attempted to answer with my relevant work force experience as it would relate to the position, but the interviewer leveled with me and said “I’m trying to figure out if I’d like to hang out with you 5 days a week here at work, so literally tell me about YOU.” Hahaha so have something prepared so that you don’t sound boring or like you aren’t a good fit. Appropriate (but honest) interests/hobbies, if you’re new to town and looking to make friends (which means you’ll put effort in to being social with guests and employees), or if you’re born and raised in that town (which means you’ll know the clientele), etc. The interviewer and I ultimately ended up bonding over music, specifically Pantera 😂 be yourself!

Some questions I get asked during an interview are general label knowledge. Like I’ll be asked “name me 5 gins, name me 5 tequilas, what’s the difference between Chivas Regal and the Macallan?, what is Rum?

Thank you for your knowledge , I have an interview tomorrow for an apprentice/Bartender, I took a class several years back, so I am not sure if I will be qualified, but I am excited and hopefully I can learn on the job, in the meantime I will study, study, study my drink recipes. I really want this, I am so sick of the corporate world.

I wanted to thank you for these incredibly helpful videos! I'm not looking at becoming a bartender (maybe in the future) but focus on serving and see how I like the F&B industry, I'm coming from the medical field so this is completely new territory me. Your videos helped build up my confidence and made me take action and not "half ass" it. I re designed my resume and walked downtown handing them out to managers in person. I landed an interview and got the job on the spot! Your interview questions/answers were SO helpful since an interview at a bar/restaurant is a bit different than a hospital. I was a bartender for a while and I only gotten four of these kind of questions. The tell me about yourself, The why should I hire you, The greatest strength, and the greatest weakness.
Then I was asked I think ten more assessment questions. The interviewer picked ten drinks and asked me how to make them.
The last two were scenario questions. One was about how to handle a drunk. The other was an integrity question.

Just had an interview 30 minutes ago and it went perfect! The interviewer just asked me some questions as "my experience before as a bartender; why would I like to work as a bartender and; if she talk to my last boss, what 3 bullet points he would tell about me to the interviewer" It was a short interview but it was good, the restaurant is opening in two weeks, it's a new restaurant, they are very famous in the UK, I'm starting the training this 5th December when lockdown finish, I'll do my best to get the position! 🧏🏼♂️❤️

Hi Dave! For the past month since I found your channel, i've been watching almost all of your videos, love what you do. I take it that in the US you can just go apply for a bartender/barback job with or without previous experience. Here in a cold place called Finland, things are a little more difficult.
Majority of bars/restaurants here want you to have previous work experience including a hygiene pass (know different foods and what temperature to storage them, easily rotting food, pH levels etc) and an alcohol pass (ABV of drinks in categories like beers, wines, spirits and how to deal with customers, closing times, bureaucracy etc). For these passes you have to go to an 6 hour study course with a test or just doing the test at the end.
Anyway, I had a temp barback job interview for a staffing service a few days ago. Quickly watched your 5 most asked interview questions video before that. I think it went pretty well even though I felt a bit rusty. Managed to make myself appear very sociable even though I'm more of an introvert. Here are the questions I was asked the best I remember them and how I answered:
1. Tell me about yourself: I told them where I'm from, where I study (looking for weekend work while going to school, I'm 19) and my previous jobs (construction, cafes...) and how I am as an employee. I don't mind working at night cause I'm a night owl and I love to gain work experience in various fields. And I dont have any previous experience from bars but I would love to learn cause I'm very interested in this particular field of work (Which is 100% true).
*I should have made it more clear how this helps them, I was only trying to get them to realize that I'm very easy to work with and I will do exactly what you tell me to do with no whinging. Although it felt more of a conversation with the interviewer and relaxed, and questioned me further as to where I have worked before. The pace we talked didn't come of as rambling in my opinion. Will be better with this question next time!*
2. Have you worked as a usher/security at the door before (Which you need to do a course on. Why some bars ask this? Most bars atleast here in Finland want to save as much money as possible. Why hire a security guard when your barback/bartender can do it aswell? This is what we talked about in the alcohol pass course): I just said no.
3. Would you be interested in moving from the role of barback to bartender in the future: Of course, I would be very interested!
4. Are you good with drunk people, what would you do if an argument that could lead to a fight would break out: I told that I get along with drunks easily and join in on their jokes yada yada. If an argument would break out I would be empathic, tell them to calm down so they wont get arrested, ruin their and everybody else's night.
5. Are you good with hectic conditions: I said yes, and I quickly told a previous work experience story when I worked in a beach cafe in the summer couple years ago. My job role was cafe assistant and I just had to make food, clean and serve tables. My boss ran out of the cafe in the afternoon to get some supplies and I was left there alone with 10-20 customers lining up. I was taking orders with the cash register (which my boss didn't really taught me how to use it as she only said my role was to clean and help in the kitchen) making food and serving tables all at once.
*The interview was fairly short so I felt as we talked in a good pace, and I had nothing else come up on my mind with this question I told this true story. I understand that just something that pops up in your mind mid interview isn't always great and can lead to a bad answer.*
6. Do you have any questions: I asked about the pay. We both looked up on our phones the general pay from the internet (The interviewer himself only works in the staffing company so he doesn't really know the pay in the restaurant/bar industry) P.S. the pay is very different when compared to the US, you don't rely on tips!
*Cringe looking back as I think this makes me sound like I only care about the pay and not the job which is untrue. But this is a valid question to ask is it not? I just didn't have any other questions on my mind. Will have to work on this!*

Hey M, thanks for the great comment. We also have something similar here in the US when it comes to food handling and alcohol awareness, but it doesn't sound nearly as extensive as yours.

Hey Wendy. Great question. There are a lot out there and I have used and tested a boatload of POS systems. My two favorite are Upserve and Rezku. @@lewismansbridge5558 First place was a great learning experience. I eventually landed a job at my local legion and it's been even better there. I still work at the first place but will likely leave there and make the legion my full time until I find somewhere better. Things have been amazing for me. I'm living the life I want to live on my own terms. Drop being nervous and just go take what's rightfully yours.

Hello there, hope all is well. Recently, I graduated a bartending academy that took 2 weeks yo complete. (40 hours) 😅 and in the process of that, I learned the basics and had to make 12 drinks in under 7 mins. Anyways, after completing it and looking around for a bartending job, places wanted two years of experience. So of course I lied about my experience and start tomorrow at a casino. Omg.. the background check was intense! They even checked my juvenile record and I had 3 felonies before I was 18 along with a bunch of misdemeanor shit but still hired me. 🙏 Anyways, during my interview, I walked into a room with 3 lovely ladies who asked me about 10 questions. One of which was how yo make a lemon drop 😂. Had chat gpt ready in my lap 😂 definitely faking everything until I make it but that has been my life.. hence the reason I self educate on UA-cam. Last job was a dump truck driving position, I learned how to dump a load on UA-cam as well.. have a good day
