I have an interview tomorrow & I have NO experience! I’m pretty worried but I really hope they see how dedicated I am & decide to give me an opportunity.
Emilce Ramirez It's different for women than for men. For women I'd recommend starting as a server then cocktail server, finally bartender. Keep in mind that in every step you have to keep learning. Either by watching or reading. In my case I am a male bartender but I started as a barback and that gave me the foundation that I need it to move up to bartender. Basically I learned by watching the bartenders that I worked with. Tasting their drinks with a straw was key to learning how a drink is supposed to taste. Watching them how they would approach different situations with customers was a great way for me to develop my social skills as well. There are so many details that you can learn by observing other bartenders.
Solid my brother.. I love how you promote confidence. I was an owner in Monterey and I hired 2 people with 0 experience. I feel I can train anyone quite frankly but .. You cant teach confidence so the Meek are in trouble. Your handling my biz, my drawers of money, my product, and my customers. You will get eaten alive without confidence. Doesn't mean cocky, just smiles and firm hand shakes and turn that bottle straight up and down.. Cya
I was a bartender for 8 months down in Key West (4 years ago) and it was my favorite job and always has been since then. I didn’t really have an interview I was kind of just thrown into it but now that I want to get back into the bar industry this is very helpful. Thank you for this page!!!!
I have only worked warehouse jobs and one barista job so having a bartending interview today makes me nervous. 😬 I have been watching all your videos all night and afternoon and feel good enough to get my foot in the door, so thank you !
Thank you so much for your advice! I listened to this video before my interviews for Marriott Hotel and got the job! You I said exactly what you said;) thank you so much Dave!!
@@user-ud6ww7hf7v haha yes I did! However, now I'm Chef de Partie at a 4 star restaurant in Chelsea and studying for my degree in 3d animation and games 😊🤟
For anyone here trying to bartend in an Atlanta Club in 2021, especially the strip clubs, they’re probably going to want to know what’s your IG following like. Crazy I know, but they want to know that you can bring people crowds into their club. So it’s a plus if you’re an IG baddie. This was my experience. But don’t get discouraged, there are plenty more places to bartend if you don’t meet the Ig model standard of beauty and have a bunch of followers. But I just wanted to make the ladies aware of that .
Not bad. Remember that they will ask you if you have any questions? I used to ask why the last bartender left. I no longer ask that. I know ask them if they have a Christmas Party. My current bar I asked if I could have 24 hours to decide, because he offered me the job immediately. I had to quit two other jobs.
I just walked in to a local shore bar looking fresh, professional gear in hand with a slick resume cover and outgoing disposition. Popular place and they said no matter how much experience you have you start as a runner. With years of experience, too. I politely turned around and walked out, trying to figure out the advantages of a place starting someone in their 40s with experience as a runner with no experience. Yeah. No. Lol
Thank you Dave. I’m really excited for this new journey in my life. And you have been such a help. I am going to purchase your course for sure Thank you brother & God Bless you for helping us all Keep rocking on
I am applying to work as barwaitress but those questions will be included on my interview to work on a cruise. Thanks so much for the time you invest to help others.
I’m already a bartender for my summer job (second year in a row!) but it’s a more casual place where I’m not totally confident in my abilities. I just bought your course so I can become even better at my job and hopefully use those skills for when I get a new bartending job in the future. Thanks!
I have an interview tomorrow because the place where I’m hoping to be a bartender at the moment I’ve dreamed of working at since I was 3 years old it’s a holiday park here in the UK
Is it not okay to show a little bit of appreciation for the guest who comes regularly by getting them a free drink once? I am not a bartender but I really wanted to be one. ☺️☺️
Yes, it is ok Louie, as long as it's approved by the manager first. It's not the bartender's booze they are giving away, so they need to ask permission. They didn't spend the money to purchase the alcohol, so it's not up to them to give it away.
Hey Daniela, there are definitely some key questions you should ask in the interview. Those are reserved for my students who register for the bartender course. You're welcome to see if registration is open at anytime by clicking the link below the video. Thanks for being here. Cheers.
Ask if there is a clock in and out system. You should ask what the pay rate is. What the starting pay is. How often they pay. If there are raises. How soon they would want to fill the position. ( so you have an idea of how long to wait for) Always ask about the tipping system. How types are distributed. Ask them if the schedule would be fixed or rotating. These are all things as employees we should openly discuss to make sure people are being payed fairly and not taken advantage of.
What if I’m not a people person right now as I’ve been away from work for a while and i will need to learn how to be this way again? Will they understand?
So I have a serious question, i know you were talking about during the interview process to not take a drink from your interviewer. I completely understand that but if a customer comes in and offers to buy you a drink while working are you allowed to take it or no? I wanted to know since I am interviewing to be a bartender soon.. I’ve purchased many drinks for bartenders and they took them.
Great question Whitney. It really depends on the bar and the person (people) running it. Some allow drinking, some don't. I always recommend NOT allowing the staff the drink because it causes liability issues for the owner and it's unprofessional. However, I have worked in many places that allow drinking, and I even took some shots of my own. If you don't want to take a shot but you don't want to disappoint your regulars, I would prepare fake shots (water with a splash of Coke or iced tea from the gun looks just like Jameson) and I would take that shot with them without them knowing and everyone is happy. If you are in an interview and they ask you about drinking on the job, tell them no, you don't do that. If after you're hired they allow it, then you can go from there. Hope that helps.
Go get 'em. Be confident and outgoing, and don't fear not getting job. The experience of going through the process is extremely valuable. I mean, go for the job, just know that the actions you are taking will pay off if you keep going. Good luck.
Ok, I have quastion. I was bartender 20 years ago then home care adistant then kids, back to caring for old people for few years now I have brake from work and want to back to be bartender. Love people and good atmosfer but only one "problem" i stop taking alkohol 12 years ago, I do not want drink, I have 2 monts brake from nit drinking last summer just to check hov I feel about , I had some drinks with friends and smoked cigarets after 12 years aswell ( becaouse without even strong alcohol did'nt kicked me at all, and I never was havy drinker before) and I gained 5 years on my face, looking older, I am 39 and say that alkohol is not for me and not my age for sure. Now, after that intro my quastion is: 👉 On interviev, how my perspective would be revived? As I am nit drinking is stupid and I can nit work behind a bar or will be see more as profecional, I am serving drinks but not drinking, no smoking ( no cigaret brakes needed and no worries that I be drinking alcohol behind bar) Should I say that I am abstynent on interviev or avoid to say it? 👈 Thanku for answer 🌹
I ll never give my coworker away.... newer.....but I will do my best to provide him equal dose of disrespect and humiliation as he did to me (house) and coworkers with that act.
Hi Sereada. The best place to apply to is any place that will hire you so you can gain some experience. That means taking action and getting your cover letter and resume into the hands of as many managers as possible and then following up. It's really that simple.
I vote a movie theater first because I have a interview for one tomorrow with absolutely no experience and I want to start off at a movie theater first so I can build my experience before I go to a regular bar.
I have been working as a barback but i want to become tomorrow i also have a bartender interview i hope i will go through with this knowledge and the little i know
Last intetview I was asked " Tell me about your best experience you ever had as a customer at the bar " . I didn't understand wtf they want from me ...
Everyone has their own reasons for asking certain questions, but I believe what they want from this is for you to describe a great experience you had, because as I've always stated, providing great customer experiences is their main goal as a business owner. You should use this question to describe a great experience you've had and tell them that your goal is to provide the same experience for people who come in to your place of work. That's how I would answer it.
here in the uk the question would be "why do you want this job because its so underpaid" I'm paid £4.35 per hour which is $5.54 per hour and we aren't allowed tips they get given to the manager.
I’m a bit nervous about my interview today I have a good amount of experience but haven’t bartended in a while and feel rusty also I’m pretty bad at interviews
