I love the way that the show crew describe Mxyzptlk behind the scenes: “he almost thinks of himself as Superman’s pal. He doesn’t wanna kill him, he just loves tugging on the ol’ cape.”
I've been waiting for this episode. It's a fun way of showing that Superman isn't just a big meathead, he actually is genuinely pretty clever and in plenty of cases kind of has to be, since there are beings like Mxy who simply cannot be overpowered even by him.
Mxy in Clark's bathroom mirror: If you thought that was disturbing, in the original comic, Mxy was using a straight razor -- and he used it to cut off his own head, which toppled out onto the floor!
Mr Myxzpltk is one of my favourite Superman villains because he doesn't want to rule the world or destroy things he is literally just an interdimensional trickster/Imp that loves to get on Superman's nerves, just an absolute troll with the power to alter reality like a god and I LOVE IT! I also love how this episode shows Superman is more than people think and knows to outthink his enemies as well as take them down; he is not just strong but very intelligent, maybe not as mart as someone like Batman or Lex Luthor, but still bright and knows when to use his instincts. Rest in Peace, Gilbert Gottfried famously voiced the character and remains perhaps one of the most iconic voice actors and comedic legends of our time. He's the voice of Myxzpltk when I read the comics.
@BBFilms88 I hope so, I'd love to see how he'd handle Mr Mxyzptlk in live action. Honestly some of my fancasting for a live action Mr Mxyzptlk are Neal Patrick Harris (especially if you've seen him in Doctor Who as Toymaker), Martin Short or Wallace Shawn. I think they'd all do a great job as Mr Mxyzptlk if we ever get sequels to the upcoming Superman movie next year
This and Iago were the 2 roles I always think of whenever I hear Gilbert Gotfried. Imagine my surprise when I first hear his foul mouthed stand up comedy. I laughed so hard I nearly passed out.🤣🤣
14:15 Funnily enough, there is a character in Devil May Cry 5 whose voice is very clearly meant to be an impersonation of Gilbert Godfrey, and said character is a talking bird.
I used erasable pens in high school in the 90s. I have dysgraphia and having to write in pen without the ability to erase mistakes was a problem so I relied on them a lot. They tended to be messier than typical ball points but they worked well enough.
My favorite episode of the series is here. Can I just say, huge shout out to Andrea Romano, the voice and casting director for all of the DCAU shows and many, many more things. She is so good at finding the perfect voice for these characters. Seriously. Without her, we'd never have Mark as the Joker, Kevin as Batman, etc. Also 7:34 had Bruce Timm written all over it😂😂😂😂
Superman can shave with lasers & he's quite clever when dealing with a 5th Dimensional being. Gilbert Gottfried & Patrick Warburton are 2 actors that don't change a thing for their voice & nails their performances
Warburton can surprise you by changing up his diction or delivery- think Lemony Snicket versus, say, Kronk- enough to sometimes give you pause and ask yourself if you're sure it's Puddy? Gilbert Gottfried has one setting. You don't cast him as a soft spoken English man and trust in his range
5:50 I mean, the reflection angles would be the easiest part - if you're looking directly at a piece of stubble in a reflection, you're already pointing your eyeballs in exactly the right direction to bounce a laser off it.
This is still the best non comics version of Mxy ever done. My Adventures with Superman has a pretty good one, but this one is the best. Gottfried is just perfect casting here.
Superman's identities are kind of an interesting thing to talk about, especially when you compare them in contrast to Batman's. Just as Batman is viewed as who Bruce really is, Clark sees Clark Kent as who he really is and that Superman is the disguise. But over time another interpretation has cropped up, where just like how Bruce is BOTH Batman and Bruce Wayne and he needs to find a balance between his two lives to truly be who he is, Clark sometimes struggles with knowing who he is, as he's often putting on an act or playing up certain aspects of himself whenever he's Clark Kent or Superman in order to make them very different from each other in the public's eyes. And if he's always putting on an act whenever he's in either identity, then he's never really being his true self, and in that case who is he then? It's one of the reasons his relationships with his parents, with Lois, with the genuine close friends he's made in the Justice League, are so important to Superman, both to him personally and to his character. He NEEDS people he can just be himself around, whoever that might be, without having to worry about appearances or how the Clark Kent and Superman identities should be acting.
Arguably they're the same situation; the real person is Kal-El from Krypton raised in Kansas whereas both the paragon superhero and the mild-mannered reporter are performances and the real person is "Young Master Bruce" whereas both the grim detective and the playboy billionaire are performances.
this was perfect casting. first time I heard of Mxy was in the superfriend series, he trapped Superman, Wonder woman and Aquaman in the wizard of oz, where they play the Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow.
This episode actually answered a question I always had as a kid which was “how could Superman shave his beard if he’s nearly invincible?” It really is so obvious when you think about it as a kid.
I can't believe you guys referred what was showing on 9:55 as Thomas the tank engine from Thomas and friends, it doesn't look anything like Thomas, of course his series did have a character who was a jet plane named Jeremy, by the way, you three guys should know that the person who voices Mr. Mxyzptlk is the same person who voiced Iago the parrot from Aladdin, and you can tell that both characters have the same voice, and another thing, if you guys found this episode of Superman the animated series great, wait till you get to see the episode "World's finest" which involves Superman having another crossover with another superhero besides the Flash, and who infact is the hero everyone knows Superman works alongside the most, which is the Batman.

"From" is a great show if you like Lost. Check out the trailer
"Marco" movie review please

Clerk Kent has intellect, a sense of humour, and can laser shave his beeard with surgical acuracy. This is a fun show.
Mxy in Clark's bathroom mirror: If you thought that was disturbing, in the original comic, Mxy was using a straight razor -- and he used it to cut off his own head, which toppled out onto the floor!
3:59 Can we just appreciate the fact that they included a cameo of Streaky the Supercat?

Imagine gunn’s DCU doing Myxzpltk

RIP, Gilbert Gottfried, 1955-2022.
One thing I liked about this is that they show how smart Clark is, which is one of his aspects that gets overlooked a lot.
14:15 the only Gilbert Impression that really comes to my mind is Rob Paulsen as Technus in Danny Phantom.
I love that there was a comic where Lois complains that the bathroom always smells like burned hair after he shaves.
RIP Gilbert Gottfried:
8:41 Lois:"My sister moves right in, and stays and stays and...was that a penguin?" XD
"Oh sssshhhhhhhoot my monkey!" XD
Jimmy's transformation was almost certainly a reference to the time he transformed into a giant turtle-man in 1961.
This and Iago were the 2 roles I always think of whenever I hear Gilbert Gotfried. Imagine my surprise when I first hear his foul mouthed stand up comedy. I laughed so hard I nearly passed out.🤣🤣
I love Paul Dini, it’s always good when he is writing. Or Dwayne McDuffie, he was a legend.
RIP Gilbert Godfrey
A fun little episode with a hilarious voice actor and a nice way to showcase Superman's ingenuity and intellect 😎.

Someone needs to introduce Eric to the wonders of eraseable pens.
"Mixel-Plick" is how they pronounced it in the old SuperFriends cartoon. "Mix-Yes-Spit-Lick" is apparently the way its SUPPOSED to be said...
Rest In Peace, Gilbert Gottfried.
The “fruit sales lady” was a reference to Carmen Miranda. She was a big deal when the Superman comics were first published.
This was such a fun way to celebrate my birthday today watching what I say is one of the funniest episodes of the animated series.

The "McGurk" thing is a nod to Mxyzptlk's very first appearance in the comics.
Gilbert Gottfried as Mr. M. is just such perfect casting. Like it really doesn't get more perfect than that.
5:50 I mean, the reflection angles would be the easiest part - if you're looking directly at a piece of stubble in a reflection, you're already pointing your eyeballs in exactly the right direction to bounce a laser off it.
Best Episode of Superman in any version.
9:53 clearly you meant Jay Jay the jet plane.
This is still the best non comics version of Mxy ever done. My Adventures with Superman has a pretty good one, but this one is the best. Gottfried is just perfect casting here.

I know they would only see it YEARS from now, but I hope they watch The Brave and The Bold to meet another the OTHER imp.
we've been excited for you all to get to this one
I stan his red haired wife, she's so cool.
Love this episode. Was waiting for it. Good one
this was perfect casting. first time I heard of Mxy was in the superfriend series, he trapped Superman, Wonder woman and Aquaman in the wizard of oz, where they play the Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow.
This episode actually answered a question I always had as a kid which was “how could Superman shave his beard if he’s nearly invincible?” It really is so obvious when you think about it as a kid.
Well, not exactly, in the comics he uses a shiny piece from his spaceship since an ordinary mirror would melt like in Superman III.
I could see Mxyzptlk as the villian in Superman 2 if the first one does well.
this is why do not underestimate superman's intelligence
I remember being a kid in watching this so many times, r I p Gilbert Gottfried, you were truly a comedy legend.
Mixy is Aaron's spirit animal 😂
This episode I’ve been looking forward too because it’s absolutely bananas. And The voice for mxyzptlk is so good though.
R.I.P. Gilrbert Gottfried
I love how in Arrested Development all the Bluth family members have their own chicken imitation dance.
Hands down, my favorite episode of this show!

The official correct way of pronouncing Mr. Mxyzptlk's name: *Mix-Yes-Spit-Lick*
I always preferred Mix-Yez-P(i)t(e)l(e)k. Pitelek said as fast as you can. Of course, _originally_ it was Mxyztplk.
Another amazing video
Mr. mxy is nigh omnipotent... being knowing super man secrets is not a big deal for him
7:47 is that a Carmen Miranda reference???? Brazil mentioned????
Hilarious episode. Love it.
This is my favorite episode of the show.
RIP Gilbert GOttfried
Woo my favorite episode!
I want this as a movie :x
Would love to see how James Gunn would bring Mxyzptlk to the big screen
I feel like Aaron and Mxyzptlk have alot of things in common
The craziest part of the Gilbert Godfrey voice is that it isn't his real voice.
Hey Magurk!!!
I'm here just to remind you guys to react to Freakazoid!
I love how done Superman was with Myxzix's s*** by the end. My Adventures With Superman's version just did not do this character justice.
literally look nothing like things from a quiet place
The fruit bowl thing was Carmen Miranda
I'm not a fan of this episode but somehow this is the fan favorite...?
