From darkness to the light. Finland's fight to and independant, democratic and free country.
This is so emotional every time you hear it. Both melody and lyrics get tears in your eyes.

@@Blessing_Reacts This composition is a part of Finnish nationality during our endurance as a part of Swedish colony and as a Russian autonomy, both were brutal in the very meaning of the word. Finland was colonized from 12th century to 20th, this composition was a part of "fennomania" as the Swedish liked to call it. The lyrics are telling:
Finland, behold, thy daylight now is dawning,
the threat of night has now been driven away.
The skylark calls across the light of morning,
the blue of heaven lets it have its way,
and now the day the powers of night is scorning:
thy daylight dawns, O Finland of ours!
Finland, arise, and raise towards the highest
thy head now crowned with mighty memory.
Finland, arise, for to the world thou criest
that thou hast thrown off thy slavery,
beneath oppression´s yoke thou never liest.
Thy morning´s come, O Finland of ours!"

I went to see Sibelius home in Hameenlinna years ago and you could hear Finlandia in The background. It was a fine moment, put tears in my eyes.

I recommend listening BBC Prom Finlandia conducted by Sakari Oramo, can be found in UA-cam. The choir part is subtitled. You will better understand why Finlandia hymn is so important to us Finns.

Ahem - It is necessary to read Finlads whole history to fully understand what this music tells. A lot of pain , sorrow and joy. Nature was big part of this story - winter - early spring , spring , sumer and then autum and gentle sleep to harsh winter.

Highly recommended this one called "Evakon lailu" / Song of evacuees. Song about the finnish people of Karelia, who had to leave their homes during war and start their life all over again in other parts of Finland. Over 400 000 people were moved from finnish Karelia to other parts of Finland. Not one wanted to live in Russia. All left to settle in other parts of Finland. This song, with a perspective of evacuated child, is heartbreaking for us finns. Still after 80 years it makes me, a big man, cry. ua-cam.com/video/h2bhFriHXYA/v-deo.html

In Finland this is considered the second national song. The problem is that almost nobody can sing correctly to the choral part. I have trouble even with the current national song, which is based on an old German drinking song and composed to be easy on the voice, sober or drunk.

Sibelius originally didnt think that nobody would sing this song. He surely said this was only for Orchestra. How wrong he was at that time.

HI Blessing's React, this was a wonderful Sibelius reaction, very much appreciated. I make song stories of composor's works.
Check out my version of Sibelius 'En Saga': ua-cam.com/video/Qgu6jD-cJig/v-deo.html
Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work.

Unfortunately this recording was F'd over by early unreliable digital technology, hence the cuts and cracks.
In my opinion, the best version of Finlandia available on YT is the BBC proms 2017 celebrating the centennial of the independence of Finland. Our boy, the conductor, Sakari Oramo made sure it was done just right.
