Hey guys! Chantel here again - just want to say thank you all for you support. I’ve received a lot of messages over the past few weeks, each of you showing me the work you’ve created with the help of my tutorials which I just love to see so thank you!
I have a fun double half hitch knot (DHHK)/square knot (SK) pattern for you today. What I want to highlight is how this is a common diamond pattern that I have alternated a bit to create a completely different look. As we go through I’ll show you how I did this. Let’s get started.
Set up - Cut 6 pieces of 4mm string, each piece is 2m in length. Fold each piece in half and attach 3 on the left and 3 on the right using Lark’s head knots with about 1.5 inches of space in between them groups. I’ve left a bit more space here but I adjust later on in this tutorial.
Using the 5th cord from the left as your filler cord tie 4 diagonal DHHKs working to the left. Using the 6th cords from the left as your filler cord tie 4 diagonal DHHKs working to the left. Repeat on the right side of your work.
I’ll adjust this slightly by moving the groups a bit closer together.
By leaving space in between the sides of this diamond pattern and not tying the first DHHK which connects the sides of the diamond you can see how I have now created a completely different look. I’ve added a photo on the right side of the screen for reference so you can see what I mean.
Tie a SK with the four middle cords. Tie two alternating SKs underneath the first SK. Tie one alternating SK underneath the second row.
Using the second cord from the left as your filler cord tie 4 DHHKs. Using the cord on the left as your filler cord tie 4 DHHKs. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Repeat this pattern until you’ve created a design of your desired length. I’ll show you what this design looks like after repeating this pattern again.
Thanks for watching!
I want to make a curtain with this. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Your work is simply FABULOUS!!! And you are a great teacher and a example to follow!!! I am starting a curtain with this new diamond pattern with a twist!!!! I am sooooo happy that you share your winders with us! Thank you!!👍😍
This is beautiful and simple! I would recommend if you are going to repeat this pattern several times lengthen the two outside cords on each side. These cords are the ones that get knotted and become much shorter than the holding cords. I plan to add a yard to these 4 cords when I make this design again. P.S I began with each cord being 6 yards and I worked the design until it was about 20in. long. At this point, my working cords were about a yard shorter than the holding cords.
This caught my eye ! ❤
I would love to see this pattern acting as a frame in a project or even as a pattern in a wall plant hanger. BEAUTIFUL 😊
Simply but precious
I love this one so much ! Thank you Chantel

I loved this one, but I would like to have seen how you started the second one!!!
How would you end it? I'm new to macrame so not sure how to freestyle with any design. But I agree, this would be a beautiful plant hanger too!
Lindo!!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
😍😍😍
Bravissima..
BEAUTIFUL, VERY WELL EXPLAINED. HOW WE CALCULATE THE LENGTH OF THREAD WE NEED? SORRY , I DON`T SPEAK ENGLISH ... I AM USING THE TRANSLATOR ....
Wonderful work!
Could you please explain how to close this pattern? I am using it for the upper part of a baby mobile (4 diamond patterns distributed on a bamboo circle) but if I try to tie a the 4 in one knot, the pattern loses its regularity and simmetry!
About Diamond Pattern with a twist.... How much string would be necessary for a finished length of 3 feet or 4 feet? I love this pattern and I would like to make a small window hanging using it. Thanks for the video. thank you.
Una duda si el cordon es de 1 metro..
.tengo que cortar 2 metros = doblado es 1metro?? Mil gracias de Argentina
Could this pattern be used for a plant hanger
Hello,
If I wanted the end result to be about 4 feet long how much string would each piece have to be? Thanks!
Do you have any tips for editing/changing a pattern to make it a bit bigger? I love so many of the wall hanging tutorials like this one that you have done but I would love to size them up just a bit. I've been charged with making some for my sisters wedding in October to hang on the ends of pews as seat markers, but I feel like they need to be another 2 or so inches wider to be substantial enough to fill the space and be noticeable. I'd love any tips you have to help me out on that! Thanks so much! And all of your patterns and tutorials are so amazing 😍😍
Hey Laura! You could try sizing up to 5mm and adding extra length to accommodate the size difference. I'd also try adding one or two more strings on each side for the half-hitch knots so it extends out a bit farther with the pattern.
I'd really like to have seen how it knots into the second round.
Ameiii
👍🏻
I'm new to macramé and I'm getting mad to add the second part! How do you do it? Thank you

I’m a little confused on how you made the second part of the pattern. Like how you made the curve part. When she cut to the end I’m curious in how she made the pattern again?
I am as well, I started to do what I thought was continuing the pattern and it didn’t look right.
I figured it out the hitch knots have to be tied so that the strings are pulled towards the middle of the project and not pulled towards the outside
