I am looking forward to making some servers to go with a big bowl and spoons for Hot chocolate. Make a great gift set for Xmas. Thanks for the inspiartion and your wonderful enthusiasm, Best wishes from Margate, UK 💖
Thank you so much Julie!! I really appreciate your kind comment! Skillshare is pretty awesome, you will love all the different topics and videos on pretty much every topic! Enjoy!! xo
Hi from a Dutchie living in Sweden! Love this video and definitely will give this a try! You mentioned firing issues? Can you elaborate on this a bit or maybe you have another video about firing these kind of items?
Hello Sweden!!🇸🇪 Love that and welcome! I’ve shown some of the issues I have in some of my kiln opening videos… typically I get slumping..I don’t want to use stilts so I’ve been firing with the salad server inside a kiln supports…I glaze the ends and the bowl, but leave the handle bare. I often have to fire them 2x to fix the slumping. Not practical. Anyhoo if you have a suggestion I’d love to hear!! ☺️🥰
Thank you! I am watching from Fiji! I always learn something good watching you. We will be sailing back to NZ soon where I will get back in the studio! I can't wait!
@@SarahWaltonPottery We are leaving Fiji tomorrow for the last time. I have been here every year for the past 8 years and this is my last day :( We are really sad about that. I will be in NZ in 2-3 weeks. The good news is I can get back in the studio! I tried to buy Boogy pink after seeing you kiln openings but it is all sold out! Stop buying all the Boogy Pink!
@@FunkyPhish haha!! I can’t help myself..boogey pink is to dang beautiful..I have to hoard it! Sorry to hear this is your last time sailing in Fiji! Ive never been but always wanted to go. It looks soo beautiful! Enjoy playing with clay when you get back home. 😘🥰
I am so curious how you manage to glaze/fire these. They’re so cool! I’m super new to pottery, but I can’t think of how the glaze doesn’t fuse the bottom to the kiln shelf. Are they hung from the handle hole, somehow, I wonder 🤔 I can’t wait to see!
Now I need to make large spoons. Love your videos Sarah always fun and well done. I have a box full of aged driftwood. Maybe will make the spoon with a driftwood handle. See what you do to us!
LOVE that idea!! Driftwood would be so amazing with these! If you do it please send me a pic!! Thank you so very much for your support...it really does mean the world to me!! xo
@@SarahWaltonPottery 😋Sarah have you ever thought about cutting the Styropor balls in half? 🤔they are quite expensive here in Germany and I could make more out of one and it would make it easier to let the spoon rest on only a half ball 🙋♀️ what do you think? May be I missed sth… ❤️
Jill from PNW. Great video I love those spoons and salad servers! You are fun to watch great energy I’ll be trying this project out in the studio today👍🏻
Love this! I’m so glad you made this video. Just starting it, of course! Can’t wait to try these. LOOOOVE that you’re using the extruder!! I have that exact same one!! I got my slab roller for free which was just unbelievable!! I just had to buy the table to it and it’s the absolute perfect size for my space! I also found my wall extruder on Facebook marketplace!! What do you have inside the socks? What a great idea!! Showing a pic of the tool with the name!!!!😮. Soo if I may make a suggestion. Since you don’t want the handles to warp, try and keep that extrusion as straight as you possibly can at all times during the process so you don’t put that memory in the clay! Maybe you can cut the ball inside the sock in half so it’s not at such an abrupt angle? Omg I love your use of the wine corks! Hahaha. This pottery community is by far theee best and EVERYONE is welcome!!!❤
Hi Michele!! Yes I think you are right...I really should cut the styrofoam ball in half to prevent it from rolling and such a big 'sag' when I'm making them. Don't you just love FB Marketplace...so many goodies available and that you got a slabroller for FREE!! WooHoo...score!!! Thanks for being here, always rooting me on...so appreciated!! xo
@@SarahWaltonPottery I’m so glad you find that helpful. I really think it will help. I’m always here to help and to root too!! And yessss I love fb marketplace!!
Hey Sarah, I’m from Brazil and I love your videos. How do you glaze this spoons? How do put them in the oven after glaze? Thanks for all the inspiration.
Hellooooo Brazil 🇧🇷!! Obrigado!! 😘 I will have to do a video on the glazeing when they come out from the bisque fire. I have a few kiln opening videos showing how I fire but I am still trying to perfect the method.. stay tuned!!
Hi Linda...I've been working on different ways to fire as I glaze both the top and the bottom of the handle. I usually fire them inside of a kiln shelf support, but get some sagging which requires a second fire...fingers crossed that I can get them fired in just one glaze fire 🤞🏼
I love what you make your glazing is so beautiful could you tell us what extruder you have I bet you have stated the brand before I couldn’t find it Thank you!❤
Hi Lisa, Mine is Loonie Extruder Gun and I bought it at Pottery Supply House. I added a link to a similar one on Amazon, but if you want the exact one I have PSH or in the US Euclids.com Hope that helps! ...and THANKS, I'm glad you like my work!
Hi Debi! I made it. I had Home Depot make the cuts, it was cheaper to buy full sheets of birch plywood and I had them cut it down into 8 x 24 inch slabs. I added wheels so can move it around. I have seen bakes racks at restaurant supplier stores for a fairly reasonable price , you would have to get the shelves cut down, or if you or you know someone who’s handy..you can make it yourself. 🥰
Hi Inge! I don’t glaze the handle so I usually insert them into a kiln shelf support. I’ve also used stilts and grind smooth the divots with my dremel. I will show them come out of the kiln, I’ve only just finished the bisque fire so it will be soon!
I haven't had any issues. I have a set of the salad servers and I put them in the dishwasher and utility drawer for the last few years without a problem. If they drop, that's a different story. I had one customer report that hers broke, but that is the only report.

The half sphere foam forms would work great so they wouldn't roll or cut those in half maybe? Love this. So creative. Thanks for sharing.
