      @Suzanne Tisdall no joke, and along with the deer/squirrel/rabbit we had either veggies from the garden or the ones God provided in the wild. My mammaw loved a "fresh mess of polk salad". 😆 Us girls helped hunt and fish for the food too.

      @@wallyworld817 amen! Mammaw and momma taught us how to make-do with whatever was available and keep everyone fed. There's been a few times already in my adult life that "struggle" was an understatement, as a single mom. With some fresh eggs from mom's chickens, a sack of potatoes and a bag of flour I kept the kids fed and happy until times got better. The good Lord always provides what we need if we have faith!

      I was thinking the same thing. He's acting like she CHOSE to eat those things....she didn't have a choice. She didn't have a personal chief and a fucking target or Walmart right down the street and fucking personal jet to fly her everywhere like he does. Her and her family did their very best to survive the only way they could. At least her family would be able to survive if anything happened.... Conan would let his whole family down and they would all starve if he were in that situation. Pampered little rich boy 🙄

      But her wit and intelligence, coupled with her integrity and truly decent upbringing, make her a force to be reckoned with.

      The irony being that not too terribly long ago almost everyone especially here in America had to do whatever you could to survive or starve. Just because us "country folks" still mostly pass on that lifestyle and how to care for your family and yourself in almost any situation, we get looked down on as trash. However, watch em come running for help n advice when something catastrophic happens n then we'll see REAL QUICK how beneficial the trash talk and boujy lifestyle helps them out!🤨

      I am the product of South Carolinian parents first generation New Yorker. We were sent south EVERY summer to learn our manners also we were taught how to survive and not "call someone else".     Are people really that out of touch? I remember harvesting dandelions and other "weeds" for us to eat as a kid. Never had to hunt squirrels but we raised chickens so we had them to eat.

      I remenver Poke salad from picking Poke along tue railroad tracks and wild Asparagus we picked along fences. Eating Pike coojed was tge same as eating Spinach cooked. It just took so much of it.

      He's joking, and no one is up for a joke more than Dolly! I forage for wild plants to eat when I'm someplace where they're allowed to grow wild and unsprayed, but I don't eat any type of meat. I do grow dandelion greens in my garden. They're a traditional Greek bitter green and are delicious sauteed with olive oil and lemon.

    Possums are our only marsupials in north america, they carry their babies around like kangaroos they're amazing animals so sweet and timid and they don't hurt anyone they actually get rid of the tick problems outside because they eat 80% of the ticks on them which ends up putting a huge dent in tick population when you have them on your property

      Or even venison. My 1973 Joy of Cooking cookbook tells how to, not only cook wildlife, but how to skin them and dress them out. Says to keep the possum caged and feed it milk and cereal for 10 days, if possible. Want to know how to dress out and cook a beaver, read that book! The 1973 version. The newer versions have edited out a lot of stuff.

      We had to depend on what Dad could find. We kept rabbits, and as kids we knew that one would disappear now and then. They had a better and quick death than those poor animals queuing up in terror in slaughterhouses. Our rabbits were dead before Dad pulled them out of the hutch.

    My Grandmother grew up poor as well, she was born in 1920 and lived on a farm in North Dakota until she got married in 1944 and moved to Idaho. She survived the Dust Bowl, The Great Depression, lived as a subsistence farmer, teacher and did go to bed hungry at times.

    Back during the world war time, dust bowl, Great Depression… people were eating a lot of rabbit. They reproduce fast and can feed a lot of people. Back in the 70’s we had friends that grew their own food and had many rabbits. It did taste like chicken.

    I'm so proud of Dolly! She makes ALL of us from East Tennessee so proud. I remember my grandmother saying that they never knew they were poor until the government told them so🤣😂 She also takes care of her community. ANYONE should be proud to be like Dolly!! Yes, I know what I am talking about.... I've met her, and more than once🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎯

    I've learned not to judge people by what they eat and I certainly don't make fun of their food. I've been seeing people eating out of trash cans lately. We do what we can to survive

      @@gummy5862 Let me preface by saying Im an independent. Part of the liberal platform is looking down on southerners. I find it strange because for people from other countries, liberals are ready to support their cultures; however, for southerners, they view it as backwards. I like Dolly because she loves being southern, as she should. No culture is perfect but to try to force people to be ashamed of where they came from is wrong.

      I’m from the south and I don’t fully agree with that. I think part of it is ignorance and not being exposed to other things. Kids don’t see things growing in gardens or see animals raised for meat. When I was in elementary school there were kids in my class who were stunned to find out pickles are cucumbers. It wasn’t that they were elite, they just didn’t know. My parents neighbors are Australian. Until they met my dad and heard him talk they had no clue what was meant by the Beverly Hillbillies saying cement pond. They’d never heard cement called SEE-ment. I think it’s pretty common for people to think the stuff on BH was just made up because it’s not something they’ve experienced. If BH talked about making a dish called brains n eggs or fish roe and eggs people would’ve assumed it was made up for the show. I’ve eaten both. Same with turtle stew.

    I’m from Brazil and of course you don’t know much about Dolly, but every time I see her interviews and everything he has done for community, I grow in admiration. She’s so smooth with her words and she replies insults with so much power and kindness. What a great woman!

    Most of us live today because our ancestors caught/trapped/hunted food to keep their families alive; It’s what we do now.
    When crops failed, drought hit, or unseasonable storms tore through and destroyed the fields and Orchards of food, That’s what people did.
    That’s what people do now.

      Possums eat Carrion. Squirrels are actually pretty good rabbit is quite good But I would never eat possible unless I was truly starving.

    My family is from the south. I've had possum. It's disgusting. I've had squirrel, rabbit and gator too. I like rabbit but I love gator!!!!!

      I've never ate squirrel but I see nothing wrong with it. I mean they eat acorns and stuff from nature so that can't be bad. My dad said when he and his brothers were kids they would camp in the woods all summer long living off the land. Whatever they could catch squirrel, rabbit fish etc.

    My mom traded her car for a chest freezer of meat from a hunter when I was a kid. I have tried to always provided for my kids so they wouldn’t know hunger.

    My mom was from the foothills of Kentucky.
    You still foraged for your food.
    There's a plant most people see as a nuisance weed, but you cqn eat the young leaves like spinach or the seeds can be ground up to make a flour with.
    So one day we picked a bunch of the leaves to go with dinner.
    My brother told his friend we had "weeds" for dinner. His momma heard and quickly called my mom to ask " is everything was ok?" .
    😆 Yup, just enjoying what nature naturally provides!

      There was a weed my mother's family picked that they called polk. Remember Elvis's song Polk Salad Annie? There was a cress also that was picked. She and I used to take walks and she would show me all sorts of things in nature. Also a weed they called rabbit tobacco that they crumbled after it dried out and rolled a cigarette.

    My grandmother grew up in a farm in Mississippi! She’d have to eat Raccon, Squirrel, Rabbit and things like that too! She made it sound so delicious when her mom would had make it! Times were different back then and people had less opportunity or were it’s poor. She only recently told
    me her friend was allowed by her parents to be abused by a White man for money. Also she apparently picked cotton too!

    People are taking this too serious, he’s a comedian, he’s just keeping his show light hearted as usual while still being respectful. If you watch again you’ll realize he didn’t do anything wrong. Conan is actually a very nice person, just like our queen Dolly 💗
