Can we talk about how the Canucks have actually looked like a decent team without Daddy Hughes carrying the load? I’m very happy with how we’ve been playing since JTs departure-even though it’s a small sample size
Main reason why is bring in marcus petterson. He was Pittsburgh best defender. Because of marcus, the load can be evened out with him and filip hronek which now the defense finally look to be shaping up like last year. Now the issue is how the big guns to score more and being able to control the game a bit more. Ep26 is the man.
I agree with you. Missed Hughes on the power play. I think it’s great not to rely on Hughes too much. It’s probably gonna take a bit a time to work the new players into the power-play, and they just need to practice it anyway.
The Canucks haven't been doing well on their later draft picks the last several years, so it's nice to see one of those lower draft picks work out in Elias Pettersson.
D Petey looked like a veteran d man out there. This kid is a diamond in the rough as he's playing with far more poise than he should have at his age. No panic, keeps things simple and plays much bigger than he is. That diving play he made was a sure goal by McKinnon and I'm not certain how he was able to react as quickly as he did. Hronek also looked like an elite d man. It was nice to see Brock finally get one as he's been missing far too many chances the past few games. Chytil has far more talent than I realized and he and O'Connor have a lot of speed. Demko was brilliant and I'm very happy for him as I can't imagine the uphill battles he's been faced with. Quinn not being in the lineup makes this win even more impressive. Soucy played great and it was awesome to see him protect D Petey. I'm anxious to see Mancini in the lineup sooner rather than later. According to John Shannon, many in the Rangers organization were devastated that Drury included him in the package for Miller. What is concerning is the fact that aside from EP40's face-off wins and d zone play, he wasn't noticeable at all in the offensive zone. Hopefully he had a good look at McKinnon and how a big contract player should play and carry himself. EP40 still needs to work on his strength as he falls down far too frequently for an NHL player. Boots to Blades was a long time ago.
Our new Canucks were awsome tonight! It reminds me of 1991 when we got Ronning, Courtnall (Goeff), Dirk, and Momesso at the trade deadline, and the 'Nucks caught FIRE!!
I also would’ve liked to see a goal 5v3, but the rest of the powerplays I’m giving them a break for now since I don’t think they’ve had a proper practice since the trades yet. The pp will come once they get some reps together (and without Jt)
Loving the juice from the new troups. EP25 is a keeper. Gotta love what he's brought so far. Demko, baby. That guy was so on point, and took home the shutout to show it. What a huge goose that was! Pre-popledius, bubble-isious, classic OG, Vezinatingly, Demtastic performance! Our team WON, and shut out the Avs without Hughes, without Miller, and with 4 new guys including a rookie on D. I'm not the only one who feels that weight coming off the team.
Looking more like a gritty unit now, great on the forecheck tonight and defense is looking a lot more settled, great game from Demko! Chytil and O’Connor providing some drive. Just need a little more offensive dynamism. But good performance against Detroit in the OT loss and big win over the Avs without Hughes.
Exactly....they should have traded Myers instead of Soucy, at least Soucy can play physical and sensibly, unlike Myers plays brainlessly. I can't remember how many times we have seen him giving away the puck dangerously last night. 🙈
Yes, it looks like more cohesive play going on now. And we finally got some decent defending and speed up front. And bubble Demko coming up really big. 😊
They shut out a recent Stanley Cup Champion without their best player and potentially the best D man in the league up against the team with arguably the the second best d-man in the league, who is in the lineup, along with a lot of other skilled players. On the one hand, I would get too excited, because we've seen the Canucks beat good teams this year and then lose to inferior teams. But the way guys like Chytil, O'Connor, D Petey and Markus Pettersson are playing, there's reason for optimism.
Out of our draft picks I was not sure how good he was and still think he should have spent more time in the AHL but he seems to have arrived anyway. Even though I was not sure of his abilities I watched some of his games in Sweden. And I thought he had a good chance of becoming a good NHLer. At first I thought of him as a novelty because of his name. Most people did not think he was going to get a sniff. And I think the majority. For me he has surpassed expectations. I agree he is a diamond in the rough. Either that or our other defensemen other than Hughes and Hronek are attrocious. Kidding . I think he is the real deal and the NHL will notice or be put on notice. I think his play has helped the team a lot already. I will say this , that I have been a Canuck fan for decades and this young man looks to be one of our best rookies ever and has only played a few games. Last night was awesome.
The problem with Juulsen is that while he's the worst defenseman on the Canucks for 5-on-5, he's also the top-2 defenseman on the PK. In the ideal world, he would be the extra defenseman in the lineup, with PK duties and slotting in when there's another defenseman in the penalty box.
One thing I took from the game is that you can trust him already. And that is where I thought there could be an issue. Some mediocre defensemen and a rookie. A guy like Meyers or Soucy given more icetime hurts the team. He kept their time on ice down thus lessening their chances to try and do to much which can be fatal in games. He is quality.
If Juulsen goes in the lineup over DPetey at any point (Unless Injuries) for the rest of the season I'm going to start questioning Tochs coaching skill more than I already do Also posts aren't luck posts mean you missed
Luck is DEFINITELY involved. Humans are not machines that move with mechanical precision. Even the slightest cunt hair's width of inaccuracy can be the difference between it going post and out or post and in. Also you're lucky enough to beat the goaltender at all let alone hit the post. You can't control how much space the goalie gives you to pick your placement so you need to be lucky to catch him out of position. ALSO Also... you need to be lucky the ice surface is smooth enough to not affect your shot AND that the pass you receive doesn't bounce over your stick to begin with. There are tons of factors outside your control that affect the outcome. Yes you missed but if it hit the post then that means it was still a good shot.
His music will never die. But EP 40 will be awesome but probably for another team. I’m not sure why people say he is a fraud. He has played for multiple seasons and is about a point per game player total so far. Sure somethings isn’t right but if he keeps fighting and I know he does. He will eventually get it right again. Hopefully before the end of the season....
Demkos posts were outstanding. Boesser missed some chances ,(nice to see one go in)Blueger with the top 1/2 net open flipped the puck along the ice into the goalies pads, alot of missed chances. Ugly win but perhaps a team struggling with defense and goal tending will be more ready to step up. We need size and speed on the wing that shouldn't be too hard to do.
Clearly lots of talent on the team when they're putting in the effort, but that PP suffers and has absolutely no identity without Hughes on the ice. That's been true all season. It's one of those weird dynamics where this team without Hughes is actually better 5-on-5 since they're better off the rush and taking the other team by surprise instead of having all the possession and having no idea what to do with it.
The whole team is looking extremely well balanced compared to before THE trade. Not as much flash on the offense, but the back end is WAY better. End-to-end efficiency has vastly improved. Things are lookin’ up! 😎 Now, you all know my name as the anti-Myers voice. Been screaming for him to be traded for years. Well… I’m changing my tune. Since THE trade he hasn’t made me 🤦🏻 once… NOT ONCE! He’s been able to actual be responsible with AND without the puck over the last 3 games. It’s honestly like watching a completely different player with the #57 on their back. It’s still early to give him fill props, but this is the first time I’ve felt hopeful about his potential future with the team. So now I’m actually rooting to see him continue this character arc. He still has a lot to prove though! I’m not gonna simp out on him that easily! 😜
Yea there is a chance depending how far his college team goes in their league. We may see him in a few games toward the end of the season. Panchod doesn’t know what he is talking about.
So from a defensive catastrophe standpoint for much of the season we’re now looking at a top six of Hughes, Hronek, Myers, 2 x Petterson and Willander (Soucy) for the foreseeable future. Not bad!
D petie looking like the best 3rd round pick since stan smyl. who? looking forward to seeing mancini dress for a game. just picked up the 2 fastest skaters on the team in the trade. petie played 9 minutes and change. 1st one on his line to change on every shift. wtf is his problem? canucks won with their MVP out of the lineup. shows the depth on the team.
The shutout has absolutely nothing do to with Juulsen not in the lineup. Canucks were extremely lucky because the AV's hit the post/bar three times. Just imagine they would have hit the net three times instead. Luck was the only reason why they won this game.
That and they made it very difficult for the Avs after the first period. Took their chances, had more shots, Boeser basically missed an open netter and Blackwood made a number of good saves as well. If you don’t score (Avs has a few PPs) you’ve only got yourself to blame.
@@CarlyVerdel I find the statement from the video confusing, that Juulsen was the reason why the team won. It's pretty simple: Hockey is a team sport and therefore picking out one player that decides on the outcome is ridiculous. Period.
5 on 3 power plays are only successful 25-30% of the time, saying you had a 5on3 and there is no excuse to not scoring is just poor journalism. with your downer attitude towards the canuck me and my sub are out. GG
I’m not sure the Canucks even got a shot on goal during the 5 on 3? Unfortunately Boeser gave the puck when it was 5 on 2.5 (avalanche player with no stick). Glad Boeser got a goal. Anyway, I’m sure they are going to practice their power play. They should probably also practice the power-play without Quinn Hughes.
D Petey has that dawg in him. What a steal of a 3rd round pick.
thats just it. carries himself like a man
If you remember when he was drafted, scouts from other teams where laughing at the Canucks for taking him. Who's laughing now?
😢😊

Exactly, so happy with the last two games without papa Hughes.
Ya with hughes back and maybe one more strong forward by the deadline we might be in a better spot than a month ago!

Demko played so well. That one rob my lord had me standing on my feet
So nice to see the A on Boesser!!!
deserved

D Petey is legit
I was certain they'd get thrashed without Hughes and putting Demko in net.
I couldn't possibly be happier eating my own words.
Young Elias Pettersson #25 really impressed me last night. Very smooth skater and closes distance quick...played really well and physical too.
A win without Hughes in the lineup is a steal.
Especially a shutout I was super surprised
Against the Avs, no less. Unreal! This team gonna turn it around
@@geoff-cp1wuagainst the Avs of all teams.
Hughes being out has forced everyone else to step up, now they just need the same effort when Huggie comes back and support him a bit.
Very impressed with D Petty's hockey IQ and hope it continues.

I saw him play at the 2023 World Juniors. He's a solid player who does well under pressure.
Canucks PP suffers without JT and Hughes. Their absence on the PP is glaring.
The Canucks always been my team ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Still dont think they should trade Soucy. If any of the top 4 is injured its gonna be forbort or Juulsen slotting in.
He looked pretty solid on the right side.
Wood should have gotten a major on the spearing call. It was in fact spearing or intent to injure. Pick one and sent him to the locker room.
They shut out a recent Stanley Cup Champion without their best player and potentially the best D man in the league up against the team with arguably the the second best d-man in the league, who is in the lineup, along with a lot of other skilled players. This is the type of Swedish player we need, who can play well and fight.

I hope this shutout helps demkp with his confidence cause he has not been playing like himself
Hard coming back from injuries
He looked great tonight 👏
Love the effort from big hog hoglander tonight to almost secure the win with that penalty draw. Good efforts all around
Boeser is a amazing player. Lots of chances but misses. He has to have those. It depends if it’s like swayman or one of those good goalies
D Petey… the next Edler????

Hopefully they can trade the $11M White Elephant Petterson
Just bench him
Imagine this Canucks team if they had also been able to trade EP40 for Necas. The guy was everywhere on the ice for the Avs tonight
He plays with MacKinnon which really helps him
Petey’s going to find his game again, the cap will go up and the contract won’t look so bad. They’re not going to trade him.
He gives me shades of Ohlund. Mancini will give you shades of Zaddy
