Just purchased!
Got mine
Says only 21 made but i can put 41 in my cart 🤔
I've been following the Habs since 81, and Hutson is hands down the best rookie defenseman I've seen with the team.
Actually, I've read positive comments from opponents after a game, about him, which usually never happens.
Everyone that follows hockey know that kid is a rare kind of gem!
if his brother is anything like him, the caps are gonna be a juggernaut.
@@doaftheloaf I don’t know if he’ll be AS good but he’s a stud also. Different type of player though.
I would say Subban, as a rookie, was something to see. But he was much more typical as a type of defenseman.
Subban wasn't too bad, and that Markov kid too.
@Spotnick2 😁
Even as a Leafs fan, I can't hate him.
That's because you are a hockey fan first🤝
And that shows something right there. Simple respect for talent.
Even as a Habs fan, I can't hate Matthew
I absolutly hate the leafs and somehow love Willy Nylander
As a leafs fan lane and laine are beauty’s
I’m loving this Hutson glazing
Go talk about Matthews one season wonder a bit more
Small dynamic players NOW have the ability to take over the game?
Martin St. Louis: Am I a joke to you?
Haha of course. But that man was a pioneer. It’s become common, whereas back in the day it was rare
@@RobTalksHockey joe sakic was on the smaller side and he was a beast
As a player, no. As a coach, yes.
@ "smaller" is relative... he is still a pretty big guy, unlike someone like Martin who was around 150lbs soaking wet.
Brian Gionta!
I grabbed him early in fantasy, one of the reasons I'm on a 10 week winning streak
He isn’t really that valuable in fantasy
@@kweqwequgtweqfq4694 Depends on how much points are valued in their league, cause he gets a shit ton of them for a defencemen
@@slipperynodd578 mostly assists though, only worth 1pt in standard espn settings
@yes, but the 7th most points for a Dman in the league. So unless the league is like 4 people, he is a top Dman in that pool.
@@slipperynodd578 if your league doesn’t count blocks and hits sure but he’s almost waiver wire level in both of my 10 man leagues
2:44 I like that you used that picture of Tom Wilson. 👌
I didnt catch it the first time, so I had to go back .. What a beauty pic when everyone else is either smiling or looking tough
Lifelong, died in the wool Bruins fan here and I just can't hate these young Habs. They are so much fun to watch and Hutson is electric.
Now, his brother and Ryan Leonard will be on the Caps for the playoffs, but I don't think they will be enough to make me root for the Caps.
i dunno if cole is coming up just yet. leonard will almost certainly, if the caps have a place to put him.
Zegras is super fun to watch to as anything but a ducks fan. Who likes winning anyway right 😂
undersized, not the greatest skater, doesn't have the hardest shot, phenomenal vision, knows where everybody is on the ice, and where they're going to be, slippery af, loves to draw a crowd around him. i remember a guy who used to play the game just like this. no.99
Bingo… Datsyuk too
Lmfao!, we'll see. Big shoes to fill when comparing to #99 😂😂😂😂
Datty could skate
@ agree and totally different game, but he is a good kid
@@Hfamjam He's elite for sure, But comparing him to Greyzky is Ludacris.
This guy might be the reason I will watch the habs again. Simply amazing and rare talent. Greatness!
Dont sleep on his speed, he can move for a guy with such short legs!!! When he does give up the puck when trying to shake and bake, u can tell he takes it personal, and 9 times out of 10, he gets it back! lol. He is pretty quick for a little guy.
I was gonna say people sleep on his skating, but his skating is elite. It’s not necessarily pretty but he is a waterbug. The young man can move!
”after digging in to the numbers I would discover something…. Shocking”
Man good on RTH to always teach us something SHOCKING!!
Shticks and shtones may break my bones but a game of shiny’ll never hurt me! 😄
Crazy to me that we are still doubting undersized players. How many short ass monsters need to show up before teams get it XD
it's still a physical game. you can only have so many. habs are still too small. but hutson, and caufield, are keepers.
The old saying of “Undersized players have to prove they’re good enough, while large players have to prove they’re not” still exists. It’ll phase out as the older generation of coaches and gms phase out.
@@doaftheloaf I'm not saying the league can or should or will shift to being entirely under 6', but this video is about CLEARLY extremely talented players who are being undervalued simply because of their size. That's what's silly to me.
@@doaftheloaf habs too small? SLAF SUZUKI DACH LAINE ANDERSON XHEKAJ MAILLOUX not that bad
@ suzuki is only 6 feet, but I’m thinking more caufield hutson gallagher newhook RHP and mesar in the minors. keep the first two, the rest can go.
As a Hockey Fan, I think he's fabulous. My Team is Ottawa but I love Hockey first.
Hutson is a star in is 1st NHL season. He's going to brake every NHL defencemen record, if he stays healthy.
GO!!! HABS!!! GO!!!
You might want to slow down a bit
The shift will be to put skill players on defense for the exact reasons shown in the video. There is naturally more space off the faceoff, this means a less skilled player with no physical ability has space to play. Like rob said, you dont wanna put him on offense where its difficult to create space and score. You want him where its easy to score because if he isnt given space he wont make it for himself. His dekes work because hitting him is not allowed as outlined in the video as well. This is a gary bettman production not a generational skill.
well, you have a phenom in Landon Dupont coming soon, so I'd wait and see.
@@Spotnick2yup another generational talent 😅
I saw him in a preseason game this year and couldn't take my eyes off him when he was on the ice. Dude's electric. I can't believe we drafted him where we did. What a home run. The whole league was sleeping.
I don't know what the rest of the league was thinking....NHL scouts need to open their eyes
@@Cbagadaga It's not just the NHL that undervalues players that don't fit their mold, but they do this too often. Talent should really be higher up on their list.
Yesss! That move at 7:30 against the Bruins 🤯 I thought he got crushed, and he slipped through my jaw dropped
I remember in my EA NHL playing days I started noticing that by tapping the skate backwards trigger for a split second or two it would create these awesome dekes and open up the ice so well. It changed the game for me and it was so da,m fun to see the opposition get faked out by it lol!
Hutson is mastering this IRL.
Short king here, this brings a tear to my eye
Kent hughes is a freaking genius. Slafkovskiy, hutson, beck, and engstrom, all in the same draft. That's without talking about Demidov or Jacob Fowler. By the way, thanks for using the french canadien coverage, especially RDS. I know you're not a habs fan, but it means a lot, especially since it wasn't TVA Sport. We hate them.
"Ma parole"
He looks like a young Datsyuk. The similarities are striking in their game IQ as they have the moves to act on it
Demidov is like Datsuk maybe better and he is OHW
Great brakedown as always 👍
love the hudson video analysis!
Just ordered my first box from your website, and they’ll be my first packs of hockey cards ever! I really hoping to pull that Hutson card but all together really excited to just start collecting hockey cards.
If anyone who hates on him see’s this video they gotta change their mind cuz this is the best explanation, and clip choicing in any Hutson video I’ve seen in the internet ever lmao , great job fr!!
That pic of Wilson with the giant goose egg 🤣
i know ill get heat for this but, if Hudson doesn't get the calder this league is scuffed.....Celebrini is good VERY good....but this kid is a defensemen with MORE points then all rookies....he's top 10 in almost all defensemen metrics in the entire nhl....AS A ROOKIE....this kid is special, very special and he deserves his praise. I really hope they get this one right cause he deserves it.
As a Sharks fan, Hutson is a stud but personal bias + age factor tells me Celebrini has to win it... wouldn't be upset either way though
But the Calder only gets given to the rookie with the most points when it should go to the most valuable overall rookie… I still think Faber missed out on it last year
@@vincentdegendorfer6091 both valid points, but to me as good as celebrini is, a rookie defensemen putting up numbers like this ( I mean he’s breaking team and league records) and can control the pace of play. I still gotta give it to Hutson. But again, Celebrini will be a franchise player, and is amazingly talented on a very stale team. But I still gotta give it to Hutson
@@vincentdegendorfer6091 I get it but I watch ALOT of hockey, it’s not just points. I really can’t remember seeing a rookie dman with that kind of talent/poise. He dictates the pace. AS A ROOKIE. I’m sure u know hockey and you have to know how hard that is to do as a regular player, never mind a rookie d man.
Is Hutson already the greatest dman prospect in Montreal history?
Ofc
He'll make everybody forget about Subban. The hype is real with this one
easily
Over Suban? Idk I feel like prime Suban in todays game is a ppg guy
@@KimarKurosaski hutson is more talented and not by a little bit.
That Tom Wilson headshot in the graph 😂
Great video, and I understand what the title is referencing but good god these sensationalist titles between this channel and Hockey Psychology are doing my head in
Exact same titles now
One word to describe him would be "deception" for me. Great vid Rob!
Something about his body movements and dekes remind me of Datsyuk a little bit. Lane Hutson has some insane skills/talent, ive only really recently been paying closer attention to him.
Great video.
That 2022 draft was rough I think in a re-draft a clean pair of Sox could take the 2 spot after Lane.
I like how you continuously misspelled and correctly spelled his name multiple times in this video.
I didn’t even notice haha
@ hahaha I know you’re a busy guy and these things happen
I'm surprised that we refer the first 5 years of Crosby and Ovechkin as a low scoring era, as it was at that time the NHL implemented rules to put an end to the trap. The real dead puck era is between 1996 and 2005 when the New Jersey Devils won 3 Stanley Cups.
You’re correct. And scoring did go up in their rookie year, but that was the start of the transition to the game we see now. Keep in mind the Jamie Benn 87 point ross season hahaha
Crazy after guys like St. Louis and Gaudreau some GMs still look down on smaller players.
That Wilson picture lmao
During this draft I thought everyone thought he would be really good. He kept dropping and no talked about him anymore.
I know yall might laugh at me but subban was ONE OF the first one to have that style of defense. But somehow back then it gave alot of turn overs.
i think since makar has been dominating the nhl i think that type of player is going to get more popular
he shows signs of fatigue tho. the transition from University Hockey to a grueling 82 games NHL season seems to have taken a toll on him recently
I think this will actually help him. It will allow him to pace himself out there. He hopefully has a long career ahead of him and you can't go full tilt all the time. He'll know when to turn on the jets and when to take the safer options. One thing is for sure...the kid has huge hockey IQ
The Canadians have constructed a team. Buffalo needs to take notes.
Who’s taking the Calder this year? Celebrini or Hudson?
I think they will give it to Celebrini although I feel Hutson is more deserving (simply because he is a D-man.) But either is a great choice. Saw them both play head to head last night. Future looks good
Hutson is unbelievable but I gotta go with macklin, 1 point behind in 12 less games player, practically a PPG player on the worst team in the league
Celebrini is a Canadian 1st OA pick, they will probably go with optics over actual production.
@@Bigbulbous If Hutson finishes near Celebrini in points, I feel like Dman > 12 games
1 point behind in 10 less games and he is a defenseman. I think hutson still number one in the race but its pretty close
I’m a big NHL fan and AFL fan in Australia and a similar trend happened in the game here about 10-15 years ago. Aussie rules is known to be traditionally very physical and there has been a historical preference towards big bodied guys because tackling is a big feature of the game meaning very small talented players were often written off as “too small” even if they were insanely gifted, had great endurance and speed and had excellent under age records. A guy named Brent Harvey was a great example, one of the smallest ever players to get drafted, went at #47 in his draft year and went on to become one of the most decorated players in the game’s history and holds the all-time games record with 432. In recent years it’s really shifted back and there is still a focus on big bodied players with good endurance and speed, but size doesn’t account for toughness, game IQ and all around skills. Speed and endurance is such an enormous part of the game and has become almost indispensable as the game has gotten faster and faster (just like the NHL). Some scouts overestimate small players’ perceived physical limitations and sometimes pay for it big time when great dynamic small players slip through to lower picks. Quinn Hughes obviously didn’t slip through but you can tell his size is essentially a non factor because of his game sense, competitiveness and skating ability. Opposition players can barely get near him to lay a hit and he completely controls play when he’s on the ice. Another trend that maybe parallels the NHL and protects smaller players playing the ball is the significantly greater protection on head high hits in the past couple of decades. The game it still really tough but like the NHL has moved away from reckless brutality to speed and skill.
-15, 32 PIM, 33 take aways, 70 give aways, and 40 points in 53 games. Changing the way defensemen play huh?
Top 3 in puck control, in crease pass and much more
Hey hey hey…. Dont use logic here theres repacks to sell!
@@bruh4977my favorite stat has always been “much more”. Ill trade you 3 future considerations for a player whos much more stat is 95
Secretly crossing fingers Hutson wins the Calder over Celebrini 🤞
Uh, what about a 5'10" goalie?
I've got a lidstrom young guns
Hockey is turning into basketball where defenders are more like cones. Sure Hutson is good, he grew up knowing hed never get hit, he can skate head down with no concern ect. Datsyuk did this 20 years ago, you will see Hudsons year after year, you prove it in this video. Quinn Hughes, generational or product of current hockey? Now Hutson is ALSO GENERATIONAL? idkkkkk. When there is no fear of being pulled over, you speed. That doesn’t mean you are a generational driver, it just means you know you wont be pulled over so your entire life you’ve driven fast. But then again, this video promoted your Hutson vs hughes product so i can TOTALLY see how unbiased this opinion was…….
Lane Hutson was -5 in that game you highlighted vs the Leafs.
Yeah its wild how this defenseman doesn’t play defense at all. Just put wingers on d. This video was made to sell packs.
@@GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG27 Brother it's his first ever year in the NHL... Quinn Huhges was -34 in his first 2 years combined, Bedard was -44 in his rookie year give the kids time. A rookie D man averaging like 23 mins TOI on a bad team isn't going to be a defensive superstar right out of the gate.
What is it that the NHL. will never let happen again?
THIS
I've stopped watching hockey almost 15 years ago so im really not up to date but its hard to take a child playing against other children and guess how it would translate against adults. And that's why you get players like zetterberg who got picked in like 6th round or st-louis/tim thomas who were never drafted
Theo Fleury (deserving Hall of Famer) was definitely a pioneer and had to put up with a lot more abuse than the ones profiled in this video. I know, there's certainly talent, but they are given the space and benefits of the rules to thrive. Martin St. Louis, Cliff Ronning, early Sidney Crosby, etc.
Hutson is so difficult to read as a defenseman. He knows his hip are the biggest tell of where he will move so he keeps them leveled and moves them at the last second.
I would prefer dealing with a lot of other players before him. The best defensemen in the league probably hate encountering him due to his hip mastery.
I have often said the best players om most teams are thr defensemen. A true master in their craft defenseman can do what Hutson does which goes beyond a forward's abilities.
I really sucks his point pace has been reeling (pretty much the whole team has) since Emil Heineman got hit by that car in Utah. It really killed the momentum of the team.
The defense by #11 Boston @ 7:13 is ridiculous. All he had to do was check him, instead he plays defense like it is a practice demonstration.
thank you for uploading daddy
"This psychopath says No !!" 😂😂😂😂
Interesting question for us habs fans:
Would you trade Lane Hutson for Quinn Hughes? Lets just say this was possible, what would your arguments be for and against?
Martin St-Louis, undrafted...
The scariest thing is, that he might not even be the best Hutson brother on the blue line. His younger brother (who the caps drafted) is bigger, faster, and has a better shot. Those two are gonna rip their way through this league.
this happens every year and will continue to happen forever lol
Hopefully no one Matt Cooks him like Karlsson
bro you need a grammerly sponsor
Yea, bigger was great back when guys could LAY one another out without consequence.
Now that contact sportsball is becoming more and more a "hands-off" affair. Its speed and skill that kills.
Saw him live, its even more terrifying
Special player.
and teams did the same mistake 2 years later with Cole Hutson.
Still has he gone up against Bedard in NHL yet. Cuz he totally disappeared in WJC when play each other.
Well, they are teenagers. They'll have a ton more opportunities loll. Let them get some facial hair first. That's like saying I had a better showing in gym class vs my buddy 😂
Yeah almost all thoses players were ready to play in the NHL at 18. Hopes everyone remember they waste 2 years of NHL and million in NCAA. Look at Fowler case, his spot with Montreal took a real drop with Dobes coming filling the backup goalie spot. Next year, they'll send him to the minor and we migth never hear his name again.
When was that game where hutson scored against perron?
Last Habs game of 2023-2024 season. It was a Slafkovsky's goal.

Next up. Whatnot!
Definitely some promise. And the college numbers are impressive. But have to also look at the teams around them...Hutson had Celebrini leading the team his sophomore year, and a total of 14 NHL drafted players. Makar and Hughes each lead their teams in scoring with 3-4 other drafted players as support (Josh Norris being the only other 1st rounder, who played with Hughes). Hutson did lead the team as a freshman, which neither Hughes or Makar did, so props there. And teammate argument does get used an awful lot...Makar going PPG his rookie year, but he plays with MacK and Moose; or Hughes playing with JTM and EP.
I am excited to see how Hutson develops. Cautiously optimistic. And the outlook of Team USAA defense is very bright.
Maybe mention his brother who also fell in the draft and looks to be better than lane. No mention, do you even know? Kinda crazy u could have went over how the teams are still letting these small skilled players fall in the draft
Makar played 5-6 seasons and is one of the greatest NHL defensemen of all time? I mean... The shtick of a 4th forward on the ice had everyone for a year or so, but look at that 2022 roster fam... Makar is a great NHL defenseman, his point totals if kept up will get him in the hall of fame, but it definitely won't be because of his defensive metrics, lol. No hate on the guy, I just find it irritating how overlooked shutdown defenders and their value to hockey has become over the 4th forward on the ice ( which only works in conjunction with a play style that provide a defensively minded forward in tow).
Yes

Yes
He’s sorta sloppy in his own zone but great player
Hudson, is good I think he’ll be one of the better players in the league but I don’t think he’ll be generational
Yamamoto….
Hutson
Demidov
Soon
The stats shows that Hutson has been both faster and more consistently faster than Quinn this year
The point was about edgework, not top end speed. Hughes has never been the fastest player (he is still well above average), but he's shifty and uses his edges and puck handling to create separation as seen in some of the b-roll in this video among other clips you can find online. Hutson is gonna be a special player for a long time on the habs though and has huge potential to break into that Hughes and Makar caliber in the coming years.
A lot of things have changed, the game is softer and a lot more penalties are being called. This allows smaller players to feel more comfortable playing the game. It balances it out and gives an even playing field offensively. Now, defensively that’s a whole other story. You didn’t show the Nylander break away, you didn’t show how many times Hutson’s go to move on the blue line now gets shut down more than ever before. Is he talented? Yes, however I see him as a consistent 65 to 70 point player, and as he continues his career, there will be a bigger downfall defensively, than a higher ceiling offensively. Start showing both sides, rather than just one side to prove your point.
Hudson leads the D in minus and is a -15 on a team that averages -4.
Quinn Hughes was a -24 at the same age
@@RobTalksHockey That is bad and to Hughes's credit he improved, and Vancouver has had a good amount of role-playing stay-at-home D to support his offensive game which has aided his play. But a video like this isn't suited for this year when all Hudson's done so far is been scored on at a pretty significant rate compared to the rest of the team.
@@RobTalksHockeyand you also consider him generational. At least you are consistent in your analytics i guess. You use the same arguments to both say players are good and bad. Here you highlight how Hutson is the greatest of all time while saying it is easier for him to have room off faceoffs, highlighting that he in fact doesn’t have what it takes to score as a forward. Its silly. I think you have been blinded by the repacks.
LANE HUTSON DID NOT WIN AN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP. HE WON THE HOCKEY EAST ONE
Lane Hutson is overrated, 3 goals and half of his assists are secondary. Sure great pick at 60th. But he’s not the best player from his draft. Not close
NHL scouts are actually garbage. Legitimately garbage. They essentially piggyback off of the work of junior scouts. All of the high end junior draft picks get slotted into the nhl list, and that’s about it. If there’s a guy who is an absolute stud, but doesn’t fit the conventional mold, then he’s not a stud somehow. Every team in the nhl needs to reevaluate their entire scouting staff and how they operate.
At this point of the season hutson isn't doing this stuff anymore
Living up to your @ 😂😂
sorry but wtf was that caufield take early on in the vid lmao
His scoring totals in the NTDP surpassed those players
Lol i agree, bro is actign like Caufield was the biggest pass up of all time, Finally in his 24 year old season he's remotely close to PPG. Great player but that take was ild
Literally facts? He had higher numbers in his draft year. If he was 6'0 he would have been a top 3 pick at least.

So basically Datsyuk, but a defenseman. As someone you lost interest in hockey after Datsyuk retired/left Detroit, call me curious.
Also glad you showed Brady Tkachuk mocking Hutson in their first meeting. Shows the lack of class… mocking a rookie as a more veteran player is like high school bullying. Grow up Brady, or I’ll have a go on that name. Bet he doesn’t do it on a couple weeks.
