  • Colfax Avenue is the longest commercial street in the U.S.A. It first appeared on Denver maps in 1868 as a dirt road and then become a bustling trolley route through The Mile High City in the 1890s. Today, the street is lined with an eclectic mix of eateries, bars, brewpubs and shops, as well as entertainment and live music venues. These iconic performance spaces have hosted artists from across the country, including Bob Dylan, Michael Franti, Snoop Dogg, Lorde and the and Trey Anastasio Band, and they also feature local bands like Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats. Playboy once referred to Colfax as "the longest, wickedest street in America." The street's diversity is best seen by exploring on foot, starting at the State Capitol and heading east to Upper Colfax and East Colfax.

East Colfax is best done on foot. Almost no place to park a car on long stretches.

Colfax sounds interesting. I love a culturally mixed neighborhood. I am going to be moving from Saint Louis to Denver next month. What is the housing like in Colfax?

Check Capitol Hill. You definitely don't want to live on Colfax. Capitol Hill is next to Colfax. Expensive, basement studios around $1200 and way up from there. I am a long time Capitol Hill resident,,

@@JosephCompnotta You remember the art deco murals flanking the 14th Avenue entrance to Morey (?) I tried to organize a group to restore them about 15 years ago -- and DPS was no help at all. Probably too late now . . .

No, hipsters like coffee shops and bars where they serve PBR. They don't do well with check cashing places and flophouse motels.
