I knew Taylor from back in the day. We were both child actors and I saw her at auditions and a few acting classes. The teacher would often pair us for the mirror exercises. She was so sweet. I saw her a handful of times between 2002-2005. I wasn’t surprised she became a musician because she loved music. In 2014, I went and saw her and her band perform at the House of Blues in Dallas. Before the show, I gave the stagehand a note and asked him to give it to Taylor. After the show I went back to the stage hand and he said “Taylor would like to see you”. So I went back stage and saw Taylor and she instantly recognized me. I was so overwhelmed with excitement, and she gave me a big hug. She was still as sweet as I remembered her from back in the day, only thing that was different was she seemed a bit more shy now. But she might have also been a little tired from having just performed or maybe she was overwhelmed by my enthusiasm. Regardless, it was great seeing her again. What I loved about this one is Penn and Taylor not seeing each other for 10 years and picking back up like it was yesterday. We all know that feeling I think. You can see the pain in her eyes when she's talking about losing her friend :( so sad. She seems like a really interesting, open person and it was lovely to see her reunited with Penn! Great episode!
Idk how to explain it well enough but I love the way Taylor talks; like the cadence and the way she phrases things make it obvious that she’s a musician and it’s so calming to listen to:)
She talks like she is memorizing a script half the time when she does interviews 😂 she repeats the same exact shit in every single interview. That is the actress in her. Memorizing her answers, instead of speaking, truthfully, She never sits down and answers questions from the heart. 99% of the time I can verbatim answer the questions how she is going to answer that because she says the same phrases over and over and over again. Even when she speaks about the death of her friend. Wow. Really. I tell my story the same way each time also. How is that not honest? From what I understand, many questioned her authenticity when she first started touring. How can there be any question now. She’s a rock star.
I only watched a few episodes of gossip girl, but no one could escape the cast being in the tabloids constantly for filming on the streets. it's amazing how much taylor went through at an early age and how well adjusted she is now. truly a woman of substance. loved this conversation.
Taylor Momsen is a goddess of entertainment, she's an incredibly talented musician, a lyricist, my God, I'm glad she went into music... her voice is something phenomenal, one of those that rock music needed. Real music is dying out, she and her band are keeping the torch of old avant-garde music burning, they would have been huge if they had been part of the 60s/70s/80s/90s.
Still fun of tpr, but can't agree about "real music is dying out". We already have cool newgen rock band called the Warning. I love her music but I do find it funny when people say “they’d do great in the 70s/80s/90s” about bands that are highly inspired/low key derivative of the bands in that time. Its like, “they’d fit in great in those times”.. and yeah! you’re not wrong, they are literally creating music in that style, as if to purposely carry their torch. It’s like saying Greta Van Fleet would do great in the 70s.. lolol yes! 😅 that’s a very reasonable, albeit obvious thing to say since they sound exactly like one of the most popular bands of those times. ~and I’m not laughing in a mean way, btw! it’s just a quirky thing people say without connecting those dots & it gives me a chuckle~
As someone who just recently got into Gossip Girl, this podcast really brings into life who Taylor is beyond her acting career. She's an awesome woman who's entwined music with everything she values and loves. Pretty fucking awesome
I met Taylor a year ago, about a year after my brother passed away, a kind of random meeting after I had been listening to her for over 10 years, since I was 13. Literally some the most calming and down to earth energy I've felt from someone. I didn't want to trauma dump a death story on her but her newest album had came out on my birthday, I heard rock and roll heaven and immediately sobbed. He was still alive but it reminded me of the inevitable (he was a rockstar too). He passed away 4 months later after telling me since I was six that he wanted to be apart of the 27 club. Then meeting Taylor almost exactly a year later... It felt too divine not to share somewhere
The part when Penn said that they were in the same world but having different experiences is so true. I loved Gossip Girl. This was a great episode/reunion. 👌🏽
Just here to say, I adore her as an actress. She was very gifted so much that I stop watching the show after she left. Her fight with Willa Holland character was my fave scene. Her lines were delivered so powerfully. She was such an amazing actress. I wish she could come back for a movie project someday. That aside I’m still happy she chose to prioritize her path with music ❤
I absolutely adore Taylor and TPR, her story about her friend passing away broke my heart. He will be so proud of Death by rock and roll and the band oh my goodness!
i listened to the pretty reckless before i ever watched gossip girl and i feel like its really made me appreciate her musical talent so much more and im thankful for that. im such a huge fan of her
I was in the pretty reckless show in Brazil back in 2012 and I still remember as one of the greatest night of my life, made so many friends to this day! Even though I was already a fan a gossip girl and Taylor’s character, her music changed my young adulthood
I remember when I got into GG, literally the same age as Taylor and was absolutely here for everything Jenny related, because I could relate to becoming a HS student myself and trying to fit in. I even remember one of the first songs of tpr "blender" and how on loop I was paying it in my bedroom. I adore and cherish this nostalgia and it is an amazing feeling to see her happy and thriving. Wish you all the best.
''i feel twelve all over again'' she's so cute pls but also so beautiful and with so much depth to who she is! im from brazil and been in love with the pretty reckless since the beginning and also a big fan of gg so is really nice to see how it all turned great for you guys. this is wholesome to watch ♥
As someone already pointed out in the comments, this episode seems like trauma healing and validation for me as well. Especially the part where Taylor mentions she didn't have to do acting and just play music. It was the same for me. I dropped out of college because there was a click in my head that went, "Wait, I didn't need to become a teacher. I could just drop out and go become a fashion designer." I am now a fashion designer for ten years in the running, and Taylor Momsen in Gossip Girl (Jenny) was one of my inspirations to follow this creative career. My major inspo was and is Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. So ❤❤❤
This was such a vibe. It felt like two old friends just coming back together and everyone else in the room was a useful prompt to move their conversations in different directions. Really great!
We LOVE you Taylor! Little J forever. I wrote a piece on Pretty Reckless for my outlet way back in the day, and Taylor came to ROCK. Her vocals and performance were beautiful and she commanded the room. Also... Lily and Eric were SPOTTED backstage and it made me really happy to seem them there to support her.

This made me love her even more. Also, great questions and thank you for creating a space where she felt comfortable to talk about even darker topics.
Omg looooved the musical inspirations she referenced! She mentioned a whole ton of amazing classic things and all of a sudden: "and then i discovered the 90s and fell in love with Soundgarden" and I gasped! r u kiddin, what a musical background, love it
I'm so happy she's the guest on this episode. A brief reunion of the past and a breakthrough in her future because in the end she is doing what she wants, which is creating music and living from it. Taylor is very talented and also has a great heart. ❤
Gossip girl was my childhood and the minute I found out Taylor had a band I was listening non stop and the pretty reckless has shaped my music taste so much. I saw Taylor in Vegas and hands down one of my favorite shows ever. She is such an icon🩵
I'm a huge fan of Taylor's!!! I watched every movie and TV show she's been in. I grew up with The pretty reckless and it's still one of my favorite bands. Thank you Taylor for being so open and vulnerable, thank you for all the music you and your band produced!!! I never got a chance to see you yet, and I hope that maybe sometime you'll come to Norway. R.I.P Kato, you'll always be in our hearts!!!
I’ve been a fan of taylor from the pretty reckless, never really watched the show but always heard from her POV that was just a gig, not her main thing. Music is. It’s all has been. It was nice to see her talk about her childhood, cause she’s so reserved… She didn’t mention, but she was on tour when Cornell killed himself. It was rough for her to see one of her idols die. And then Cato, the one who got TPR together… She’s so strong. She didn’t had to be, but she is. I hope she reads this and I hope to see her show next time she tours in Brazil. I love your work Taylor, you’re awesome!
Much respect to Taylor for the way she has lived her life thus far. Enjoyable podcast. And yes the only way forward is through it. Are we ever really "children" but one respects the very "adult" way that at every turn you have pushed forward. Guess I have been the same in that parents and those around me always spoke the truth and encouraged growth. On reflection that makes the loss of them over time that much more painful and emotional.
Taylor was a wonderful guest! She seems so down to earth despite starting in the entertainment industry so early and having such a hectic early life. I really get her when she said music was her solace. I think if she didn't have that it would be so much harder for her to stay grounded when that industry makes it so easy for you to go off the rails. I'm really happy she got to do what she was always passionate about. I loved Gossip Girl but I was happy she left even though I really liked how Jenny was like a hurricane because I could tell as great as Taylor was, her heart wasn't in it, and I'd rather she do what she wanted. When i was a teenager watching Gossip Girl, Blair and Jenny, and also Leighton and Taylor were my ultimate style icons. I'd wear Blair inspired preppy outfits in the day and then at night I'd try to do the Taylor looks where I could, with the dark eye make up and leather jacket and fishnets and lingerie inspired dresses. I couldn't find vintage slips anywhere where I was living but Taylor Momsen and Dita von Teese were my inspiration to start collecting vintage.
Wow she was so honest in so many moments, more than she needed to be but it made this episode so special and elevated. I love how she got into all that.
I was around Taylor’s age when watching the show on tv so I related to her the most! Was so sad to see her go I wish they had also given her a better story line before she left ❤
Except she wasn’t very honest. She keeps going on about how she “always wanted to be a musician and never wanted to act”. That could not be further from the truth. She never once mentioned wanting to be a musician, until after she and the entire cast of gossip girl were all offered record deals. She and Leighton Meester accepted the deal. She didn’t seek a record contract on her own nor did she form her own band. The record label came to the cast, and she agreed to sign a record contract as a solo artist. There was no band until much later on when the record company brought in her band members for her. Prior to this all she did was talk about how she idolize Natalie Portman, and wanted a career like hers. But suddenly, after being offered a record contract, she “always wanted to be a musician and never wanted to act”. That is the version she likes people to believe.
Taylor is a really interesting person, her introspection and interpretation methods are really impressive along with her emotional intelligence, I’m going to go listen to her music right now and I’m sure I’m already a fan just judging by this interview.
I don't know anything about GG but I have VERY strong opinions about child actors and the way the industry/parents/media/etc treat them. I read a bit of her other interviews after watching this and all I can say is that I feel so much sympathy for her. She's definitely held back a lot of her feelings and thoughts about what she went through as a child actress. I'm really glad she was able to pull herself out of all that nastiness and continue on with her chosen path in life. I hope she's doing well ❤
I could listen to Taylor talk about her music and life for dayss, |I love her so much and I wish there were more interviews of her like this. The vibe of this podcast was so chill and respectful, amazing
I was at the gym and my God was I about to cry at the end of the podcast, I love how you guys handled the situation. I'm a millennial, so I remember how TV interviews used to be (even the horrible story she told about the psycho paparazzi that should be put in prison, btw) and I just love how now we have podcasts so we can get to know amazing people like her through kind and gentil approach). Thanks for this ❤
love taylor momsen so much follow her since gossip girl. Then start being a fan of The Pretty reckless I saw Them at the Bataclan in Paris in 2017 it was amazing. She is my icon. Always loved her energy, she is so kind and inspiring
As a huge TPR fan, this was such a great interview. I'm so glad you two got to share the connection you did, because it really pulled her out in the interview just because she was so naturally comfortable with you. Most of the interviews she has the more reserved, and as she said herself, very introverted acknowledgement of herself. But you truly got her, and allowed her to be Taylor. It made for a wonderful conversation.
To me, Taylor has always been and will always be the lead singer in TPR. I remember listening to Make Me Wanna Die in Supernatural, 8 years ago? Immediately looked up the song and fell in love with the music. A few years later I found out that Taylor played the role of Jenny and Cindy Lou.

She's so grounded and self-aware which is not typical for a child star. Music really saved her.
Loved Taylor’s story about Jared!! So cute!! I love how she’s a Supernatural fan
As someone who just recently got into Gossip Girl, this podcast really brings into life who Taylor is beyond her acting career.
She's an awesome woman who's entwined music with everything she values and loves. Pretty fucking awesome
I'm so happy when you bring actors from Gossip Girl! Please, we need one episode with the amazing Kelly Rutherford.
Wow! What Taylor said about losing her friend and hard things in general hit me hard in the best of ways. I needed that.
I absolutely adore Taylor and TPR, her story about her friend passing away broke my heart. He will be so proud of Death by rock and roll and the band oh my goodness!
i listened to the pretty reckless before i ever watched gossip girl and i feel like its really made me appreciate her musical talent so much more and im thankful for that. im such a huge fan of her
The absolute TALENT that Taylor has is beyond!!! The Pretty Reckless first album ALTERED my brain chemistry!!!!!!!!!!!
I was in the pretty reckless show in Brazil back in 2012 and I still remember as one of the greatest night of my life, made so many friends to this day! Even though I was already a fan a gossip girl and Taylor’s character, her music changed my young adulthood
I hope Taylor knows how loved she is, her life story is beyond nuts.
So ❤❤❤
Aw I love reading this story
The Pretty Reckless raised me (and I always had a little crush on Taylor), so glad to hear her on here!
This was such a vibe. It felt like two old friends just coming back together and everyone else in the room was a useful prompt to move their conversations in different directions. Really great!
taylor is probably the most self aware and evolved human i've ever listened to. i love her so much and this interview is beautiful
She mentioned a whole ton of amazing classic things and all of a sudden: "and then i discovered the 90s and fell in love with Soundgarden" and I gasped! r u kiddin, what a musical background, love it
Their dynamic is really touching. I'm so impressed by the woman Taylor has grown into. I really enjoyed this conversation 💕
I'm so happy she's the guest on this episode. A brief reunion of the past and a breakthrough in her future because in the end she is doing what she wants, which is creating music and living from it. Taylor is very talented and also has a great heart. ❤
i absolutely adore taylor. seeing you two reunited is my super bowl
my roman empire
Taylor Momsen is a badass. Her character was the best part of Gossip Girl and The Pretty Reckless are an awesome rock band.
I love how real she is.
Gossip girl was my childhood and the minute I found out Taylor had a band I was listening non stop and the pretty reckless has shaped my music taste so much. I saw Taylor in Vegas and hands down one of my favorite shows ever. She is such an icon🩵
Taylor Momsen queen of rock music so true
I'm a huge fan of Taylor's!!! I watched every movie and TV show she's been in. I grew up with The pretty reckless and it's still one of my favorite bands. Thank you Taylor for being so open and vulnerable, thank you for all the music you and your band produced!!! I never got a chance to see you yet, and I hope that maybe sometime you'll come to Norway. R.I.P Kato, you'll always be in our hearts!!!
I just love TM, loved how open she was with you all.
A MOTHXR mention omg I miss Penn making music. this interview was AMAZING, loved seeing Taylor and Penn back together again
I love your work Taylor, you’re awesome!
what an absolutely incredible interview. could've watched another hour of this
This interview was so cute. I love getting to hear more of her story and about how her band started
Great to see Penn and Taylor together again
It's so wholesome to see these two together again
She was 12 shooting the pilot 😲😲😲😲😲... Remembering what happened in the pilot.... Even more 😲😲😲
Wow she was so honest in so many moments, more than she needed to be but it made this episode so special and elevated. I love how she got into all that.
Yesssssssss!! finally seeing Dan and Jenny on screen together
Been following Taylor ever since GG huge fan of her , her music, her band I’m so gassed
This is epic, so excited for this!
I was around Taylor’s age when watching the show on tv so I related to her the most! Was so sad to see her go I wish they had also given her a better story line before she left ❤
Taylor is such an interesting, inspiring and resilient person!! After watching this I’m like woooow. Such a talented gem 💎
I am currently watching Gossip Girl for the first time. I am so excited for this episode 🩷
Such a great episode, loved it so much!!
Wow. The interview was amazing. The questions on point. Taylor Momsen so honest. I loved every part of it. Thank for this, truly.
I was waiting for an interview like this of her for more than 10 years. Love her band, love her.
This is, by far, my favorite episode! ❤
Taylor is an amazing gift for the world, she is so genuine and real . Beautiful soul ❤
This was very good and Taylor really is a person of substance!
I think some of her songs like make me wanna die is genius and iconic
Watching this for the 2nd time for Taylor ❤
I got to see her live and just seeing her in person was enough for me love her she's the reason I watched gossip girl
Wow Taylor is so wise, I loved this episode!
This healed something within me
Beyond excited 🎉! This reunion was everything I expected ❤
It seems like the Universe aligned for her to create and share her dream and I can't think of it aligning for a nicer person. What a gift.
i love herrrrrr, she's without a doubt one of the best lead singers in a rock band ever. her voice is insane and her songs are incredible.
The are a lot of great rock singer, and not only men. Lizzy Hale, Dani from the Warning etc it just rock is no more populat(
@@igorkravchenko-fx9cu totally agree
Not even close you must be 12
@purpledove7008 I'm 27 and believe me I listen to a lot of rock music, we all have our different tastes. Don't be pretentious about music 🥰
INCREDIBLE INTERVIEW. Thank you guys so much for this!!! ♥️
Thanks for this ❤
I seen the pretty reckless live three times shes an incredible singer
Such a good episode it’s nice to see her more relaxed and open !
she's really determined about what she loves and what wanted to do since young. so cool.while me im not sure what i can rn
Loved this episode so much! I literally laughed, and cried, and then laughed again. Taylor was an amazing person to have on the pod 😊
She's really such a great artist. Both as an actress and as a musician. I adore her so much🥹 Love you Taylor! ❤️🩹
This makes me happy. I started watching the series for the 6th time lol 😂 it’s my comfort show! ❤
love taylor momsen so much follow her since gossip girl. Then start being a fan of The Pretty reckless I saw Them at the Bataclan in Paris in 2017 it was amazing. She is my icon. Always loved her energy, she is so kind and inspiring
Absolutrly love this! Thanks for inviting Taylor!
This was soooo refreshing and lovely to listen to, thank you!! ❤
