    When set up right with the right man at the controls ,together with the right going, Harry Ferguson's birth child is sheer poetry in motion especially with 2X10 or even 12inch plough. Although HF had been perfecting various ploughs since his young days, I have read that the Sherman brothers in the pay of Henry Ford put in some detail that gave us that familiar plough. Harry ( I have also read ) really cribbed as much from the 9n in design as Ford pinched In the 3 point patent linkage scandal! The TE Serris and the TO all had modern mechanical advantages ( improvements) over the 9n and probably the early 8n,however did. the TO30 crib it's six speed gearbox from the 8n? We in UK had to wait untill late1955/56 untill the Ferguson FE35 before we got 2x3 gearbox.and wait untill late 59 untill MF adopted the 3cylinder ,( already in use in Fordson Dexta ) to make a really good tractor for the then smaller farm

    My father had a TVO model which started on petrol then when warm switch to parafin! Then we got a Diesel! I can remember the difference in sound and smell

      He told me the TVO engine was used in the Triumph TR2 sports car which could do 100mph!

      What is the difference between a TVO and a parrafin?

      The diesel engine was also used in some Standard cars. Far better engine than the TVO and very economical to run. Could plough all day on 5 gallons of diesel.

    The main problem of these model was to have only four speeds....... it was too fast for only 24HP...... late wiht the reducer for 8 speeds it was excellent but light.....

    • @ToreDL87
      @ToreDL87 4 роки тому +1

      I checked that out and turns out with the low range that made it easier for the wheels to spin if the plow hit a smaller hitch.
      But with the high range (normal 20 without reduction box) it would only snag for a split second and keep going because the speed was high enough the plow would yank the snag before stopping the tractor.
      Mostly it was about proper prep-work, do the prep-work right, remove stones, proper depth, proper adjustment, and you could use a standard TEA-20 without problems.
      Reduction box was also expensive, and hard to get, today you can hardly find them.

    If you have never owned one of these Fergies you can't possibly know how bad they are.

    • @needz2feed
      @needz2feed 3 роки тому +1

      Why do you think they are bad?

    • @Johnsmith-zi9pu
      @Johnsmith-zi9pu 3 роки тому +1

      @@needz2feed The brake system if you could call it that was the worst I have every seen or used on any tractor.
      The steering system was also the worst I have ever used and they only had four forward gears and one reverse.
      The front axle had insufficient clearance from the bottom radiator pipe and when pin and bush became slightly worn the axle would touch the pipe and damage the radiator.
      The front axle pin also flogged out in the housing which was and expensive repair.
      Fordson, Fiat and David Brown tractors where superior in every way and the only people who liked Fergies didn't know any better.
      I hated my Father's grey Fergie so much I would still like to take to one with a sledge hammer now and that was 47 years ago.

      You poor distressed person,T20s should'nt do that to A"Being" It could have been that you or your family mistreated it and made it do things it was''nt bred for! Did you ever own a horse or bring on a working dog? The little grey things ,do:nt always plough the best,,,don't have the weight to pull 4 wheel trailers ,but in the right hands and care they can preform sheer magic with great safety! Here in the hill country pf Wales this tractor and it's successors transformed the landscape and up food production no end. Most of my generation learn't to drive on these and give or take one or two we are all here70 yrs later! God blessed Harry Ferguson his engineering ,the design he put together and the price he made it all available for.

      Give me an option on better your prefered make it's hp and it&s all round capbalities. I have owned many of the makes available in the (and the odd american import ,all of which I have worked hard on the farm and out contracting for others. Shires and other large draft types for particular applications, smaller cob types for light general work.
