Why on earth, all these damn years and NO ONE is putting out a signature Joey Demaio piccolo bass??? For one, they’re hard to come by as it is so having a ready made one will appeal to people outside of ManOwar fans. He’s iconic, he has a very very unique sound and it’s an instrument that can be used in a variety of roles, blending the best of both guitar and traditional bass. So again I ask, with all the companies out there and all the signature models being produced WHY!?!?! Does he not have his own signature bass in production???
Thank you so much for the kind words as it happens I’m talking to some people about it right now please subscribe to the channel and stay tuned for more info about it. I’ll be doing another report on the base pretty soon than one. I’m building is coming along really great thank you again.
A piece of art. The bass of course, but even more so Joey and his playing.
Thank you officer really appreciate it
The best bass player on history of mankind, the most influential of all, the only one capable of sustain a productive and successful act trought 40 plus years of existence without compromising his integrity a single day. You are an absolute example of how to live a powerful life for all of us. Simply thanks.
Thanks Gus you’re one of the few that’s always in the front line of the battle
Yes, billy sheehan exactly
Man, @realjoeydemaio just responded to you 😮

That piccolo bass sounds amazing!!! I can't wait to hear future updates after more adjustments are made and it is keyed in more!
Thank you so much as I was saying before the iPhone doesn’t really do it justice after the next round of modifications, I’ll do a proper recording of it and you could really hear it. How rounded smooth the tone is while at the same time being extremely clear and pure I’m pretty excited about it. Thanks for your support by the way, and please subscribe to the channel until all of your friends to join us.
That's one of the most beautiful and intriguing basses I have ever seen, and it's not even finished yet, hah! Great sound and great playing as always.
Thanks for the support and for the kind words really appreciate it. It’s coming along as I said it’s really slow going, but it’s definitely going in the right direction which is the most important thing please subscribe to the channel and tell all your friends to join us.
It has a particular sound. I would love to hear it in a full song even if the excerpt gives me goosebumps 😮
Thank you, as always
@@realjoeydemaio ❤️
Can't wait to hear guyana with that bass in 2025!

I think it´s turning out great! I hope this bass inspires a new album with all the truest of true metal we want! Manowar Kills!
That’s the idea it is inspiring for sure to be able to just go crazy and have the tone you want in here in your head please subscribe the channel and tell all your friends to join us
Nice riff Joey we cant wait for new songs
Thanks so much wasn’t really a riff. I was just fucking around to see how I could move around the neck in case we had to remove more material. Aluminum is not an easy metal to machine.
But thank you for your, and taking the time, please subscribe to the channel and tell all your friends to join us, trying to build a community or we can all help each other and learn
Damn that's so cool! You've inspired me to start doing stuff like this, definitely gonna try to build my own bass rig now!
Absolutely that’s why I started this channel so that people can share ideas and we could all learn from each other and hopefully while you’re building the rig I can finish off the space and if it turns out the way I hope then I’ll look around to see who has the balls to produce this so I could put them in the hands of people like yourself
Thank you for staying so true after all this time! Is this still the evolution of the old ‘Enterprise’ or a totally new build? Cheers. Have been listening for 30 years or so ⚔️
Thank you so much for the compliment and support brother. Please subscribe to the channel and tell all your friends to join us. This is a brand new build a brand new bass from aluminum.
Fucking amazing.
Manowar rules!
Killer instrument! I was surprised to read the comments about how heavy it is. Then I looked up the information on Google, and aluminum is roughly about FIVE TIMES heavier than wood. I didn't expect the difference to be so huge. Anyway, I hope you guys manage to come up with something useful to play long concerts without getting a lower back hernia in the process! HAIL AND KILL!
Absolutely correct that’s why we’re doing all of these modifications. Thank you for your comment and for taking the time to research that I’m sure a lot of people never knew that I will find it extremely helpful and that’s why I made this channel so we can all learn from each other. Very cool of you to do that. Please subscribe and tell all your friends to join us.
What a monster of a bass you have Joey
thank you so much it needs more work and more refinement but it’s coming along. Please subscribe until all your friends to join us.
@@realjoeydemaio today i argued with my friends because they want to listen to rap and shit music over Metal.
I just can't understand how such people are like that.
Love you Joey✊️
That's really some guitar and it's not even completed yet. ----------- I want to hear more riffs like that.
Thanks they weren’t really riffs. I was just fucking around but I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yeah there’s a lot more testing to be done so thank you so much please subscribe to the channel and tell all your friends to join us trying to build an ass kicking community so we can all help and learn from each other.
Thats bass is looking and sounding great, Joey! Your playing was excellent. To play that fast but with minimal finger movement just shows the skills and hours of practice you've put in. Very inspiring! What string gauge are you running on the bass?
Thank you so much for saying so I wish I had more time to practice. I can certainly use it. I’m not kidding either but anytime I get a chance to play. I’m always happy I’m changing strings right now cause I’m not sure all the time but I think the set that’s on there now is 55, 50, 45, 40 I really have no idea what I’m going to finally settle on so much of it depends on the pick ups as well. Do you know everything changes everything you change one thing then you gotta go back and rethink everything else it’s a chain reaction, but thank you again please subscribe to the channel and tell your friends to join us.
@@realjoeydemaio you're welcome, Joey! Getting a guitar/bass dialed in just right, is like you said. Change one thing, and it effects something else. You'll get is dialed in eventually. Already subbed! I subbed a few months back. Love the content, keep it coming

Glad you like it!
That’s a top notch axe. You’re the man, Joey!!!! Hail & Kill!!!

I love these improvisations accompanied by drums.
The video on Hell On Earth pt IV where you play for ten minutes is fantastic.
Thank you so much
Sounds amazing!
Thank you so much it was just an iPhone recording, not placed anywhere to pay attention to the sound next time I’ll make sure to get a really good recording. This recording really doesn’t do justice to the sound believe me it sounds amazing.
Hi Joey! I just wanted to say one of your bass guitars that I've always been most intrigued by and dying to know more about was one of your 8-string basses that had a natural finish to it, dates way back in time and the last footage I could find of you taking it to stage was in 2002 when you were performing Black Wind Fire & Steel at Ringfest, coincidentally too the only time I remember it having ever been used as a 4-string variant. Last I've seen you use it was during the studio recordings for Battle Hymns 2011. If you could one day showcase that model and have a little rundown with it, that would be more than awesome. Keep up the inspiring work, the content is amazing!
The guitar you're talking about is a veiillette Citron8 string all of the original Electronics and parts were removed and replaced with modified ones that were custom built
@@realjoeydemaio Thank you! I hope it is still around and being played if you ever get around to. This guitar has always stood out in the most positive way for me
May I really love that bass? I’m looking forward to reassembling it with some new components.
Make a power metal- epic metal album with a lot guitar and drums
album with batio it will be great. You did an Ep thunder in the sky it was the best ep you have ever done . Do an album at this style
Thanks for the great suggestions I really appreciate it. Yeah we plan to do some burning and some crazy shit so I think you’ll be happy with it. Thank you again for your support greatly appreciated, and please subscribe to the channel and tell your friends to join us.
My fav bass tone in metal while mixing bands is to run the di through a Digitech Drop pedal set to octave and run it through a guitaramp without speaker and blend in to taste. Like a sansamp but much more even in the waveform and no phase issues since its an octave down BUT it sounds like the same octave. Just a metal version of what Jaco Pastorius did.
Very cool indeed
@@realjoeydemaio
Would love to see a video of your tone!
I don’t have a tone per se I just plug into anything that’s handy when I’m here in the studio fooling around in my life rig is always changing a little bit except for the cabinets and Paul ramps. I don’t wanna get stuck in one Grove besides, you know better than anybody that playing in the sound comes from your hands I always end up, sounding the same way, no matter what I play through.
Hi Mr Joey. Did you tried the Flatwounds strings in the earlier days before Manowar? Thanks.
Yes, flat wound strings are interesting they have a certain sound it’s the sound of Motown and many other bases you know from the 50s and so forth
Hello Joey! Will you use this bass in
The Blood Of Our Enemies tour? It would be great to see you on stage with it.
That’s the plan, brother
It is a little known fact that they used Joey's DNA to create the projects that were later known as Yngwie Malmsteen and Cliff Burton.......
Thank you for the kind words that’s quite a compliment. I actually like in Yngwies playing very much. I also enjoyed cliffs work to he really played well I appreciate your support. Please subscribe to the channel and tell all your friends to join us.
Α) The piccolo bass totally RIPS SKIN! a real beauty as well- well done guys, Dan, I tell you, Dawk would be proud- I'm sure he smiles from where he might be!!! B) if THAT BADASS MOTHERF@CKER, MONSTER of a track in the background is actually a song off from the new release, i am definitely buying it (well, i am buying it anyway, cause it's f@ckin' MANOWAR)!!!! now THAT'S some real, face-melting, bone-crushing Manowar metal, the kind of metal we breathe and live for- NO PRISONERS AT ALL!!! Awesome improvisation Joey- hope to see you and MAB taking turns on solos and harmonizing and letting it rip, will be totally killer, i'm so sure about it! Keep posting stuff, we love those little "inside" moments!!! Love from Greece brother!
Thank you for your support brother and those fantastic kind words. I will pass them on to Dan and let them know please subscribe to the channel and tell all your friends to join us.
Great 👏🏻💯👍🏻

Looks fuckin' great!!
Seems super light also!
Looks are deceiving that’s why we’ve been sculpting the body actually and sculpting more metal. It’s extremely heavy. It’s like 14 pounds right now maybe a little more it’s crazy it’s almost like you get to play music and have a gym work out at the same time.
@@realjoeydemaio Hey, right now for me that's almost a plus for me!
although the important thing for me is balance (ie. I would rather have a heavy body and a light neck than viceversa)
Same here that’s the problem with aluminum. It’s really heavy.
@@realjoeydemaio if you don’t know there this instrument called the Chapman stick that was invented in the late 60s by Emmett Chapman, it’s pretty much a 10 string bass/guitar hybrid made for tapping in mind, in 2008ish he introduced an aluminum version of that instrument (he called it the Railboard) and to help with balance he implemented a bolt on wooden headstock, maybe that idea could work with the Aluminum Monster

Хорошая тема для новой песни!!!
Thank you for the suggestion, and thank you for your support. Please subscribe to the channel and tell your friends to join us.
Damn, what a beauty! Will the aluminium stay in tune under different temperatures?
Well, that’s the whole purpose of doing this we’re going to find out that’s why I’ve keep doing these reports. Once I get it to the point where I can play the damn thing then I’ll try it in different situations like stick it in a freezer for a day or so and then bring it out and see what it does or stick it in your fireplace now that we’re getting there winter get it real hot and see what happens. This is been the problem my whole life whenever I travel and go to different climates the guitar shift hopefully we can add that. Thank you for your support. Please subscribe to the channel tell all your friends to join us.
@@realjoeydemaio well i really hope that works out for you, bass looks AMAZING, but correct me if im wrong, aluminum has a bigger coefficient of linear expansion which means it's more temperature sensitive than wood and you cant expect it to behave more stable in different temperatures
I don’t know if that’s accurate I believe our machinist Hué. Trust completely feels differently, and I can tell you from playing guitars for many years. All over the world would could not be in my opinion more stable than aluminum or any other metal.
@@realjoeydemaio This is a question with a very imprecise answer, because it depends on the wood (type, cut, etc.) and the aluminum alloy being talked about. But in general, as far as I know, aluminum has a higher coefficient of expansion than wood. But the figures vary a lot, ranging from "almost the same" to "4x the difference".
But it's important to note that besides temperature, HUMIDITY affects wood expansion/contraction as well, and that' ends up being a huge advantage for aluminum. I'm really curious to know the results of your experiments with this aluminum bass. Keep the videos coming, boss!
That’s exactly my problem when I’m playing in countries for instance, that are near an ocean or bodies of water. The humidity is ridiculous and the wood drinks it in causing it to swell so if you have low action, your strings are going to be dead on the frats and then when we’re in extreme air-conditioned places, for instance, or extremely dry winter type climates, the air has zero moisture and so then the neck goes the other way cause it dries out it’s just a nightmare For people who want action
What string gauge and tuning is this?
Joey! Please play melodic tunes on the bass. I assure you, you'll sound better!
thank you for the suggestion I’m always looking to improve my sound
nice Joey, keep modifying 💪
They said it’s a long slow process but when it’s done, I hope to have something special to present to the world so that all these players can step out when it’s time and have a lot of fun
Great Bass! Are the pickups L500s?
I’m trying a mixture right now of three or four different blade company style pick ups in the end I may have to go with some type of blade pick up because of the string spacing although I have a lot more experimenting to do that’s the joy of the aluminum neck I can keep changing pick ups without disturbing the integrity of the neck, strength, and body strength
@@realjoeydemaio That system of interchangeable pickups sound very good. As a bassist and big fan, i´ve a 4-string and 8-string "Demon" tribute bass. I´m using Lace Alumitone humbuckers there and I´m quite satisfied. They may perfectly fit for your Aluminium Monster, I´m sure you already have them in consideration.
I´m looking forward to follow your interesting project.
Hail from Bavaria
Yes I tried those for a while they're okay if you like the sound go for it
@@realjoeydemaio Great, that´s very interesting! I´m looking forward to see you testing more pickup combinations!
I’m working on that right now
Cool Axe! What scale is that?
Medium scale, bass or did you mean musical scale if you want musical scale, E harmonic, minor was the starting point, and then a couple of the other modes thrown in. Basically I was just screwing around.
I meant the length.
If the Rickenbacker is 33and1/4 inches with 20 frets and you change the kayboard to have 24 frets you change also that scale, so what is the result?
It’s a medium scale 32 inch with 24 frets are actually pretty standard for a medium scale base
I wish to see more of this,... about your gear.
Everyone else has signature guitars and one-offs and names
The real real reasons i love Manowar
Is the attitude
To do the things no one does
To be the loudest
To be different
Not like anyone else
Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much. Yeah it’s nice to see so many people with signature guitars I think it’s really great and I’m happy for them. I’m just trying to do something that isn’t the every day run-of-the-mill thing so that when I’m done with it, I’ll have something that’s very exact, very stable and then hopefully I can look into getting it into the hands of players like yourself so thank you for your support and please subscribe to the channel if you haven’t done so, and please invite all your friends to join us. Thank you again.
It's already Bad Ass.......on it's way to Killer!!!! 💪 Can't see it being finished......will always get even Better! KILL!!!!
What Pick do You use......I need better attack with the Piccolo strings.....Thanks. \🔥/
I’m changing all the time I used to use the small fender teardrops like John McLaughlin used lately I’ve been trying those Dunlap jazz threes
@@realjoeydemaio Thanks.....gonna order the black max-grip carbon fiber jazz threes
See how you like them. I also find that the heavier strings you use sometimes a really Simpich can work because the strings don’t move when they’re tight and they’re big so having a send pics sometimes allows you to bounce around a little better.
@@realjoeydemaio A question about pickups......my next project bass is a 4003W Rick that I'll put the narrow spacing bridge on,.... is there any brand of
pickup you would recommend me trying? Thanks
To tell you the truth no because it's all going to be down to your ears what somebody else uses won't relate to you or your playing you're an individual and you will know the sound when you hear it best idea is just buy one put it in try it if it doesn't work out maybe it will on a different guitar if it doesn't work out at all put it on eBay you might lose a couple bucks but it'll still be bringing a decent price and minimize your losses and keep on going keep on buying and trying when you hear the right one you'll know remember there's only one of you in the world only you play the way you play and only you hear what you hear in your head just go for it and don't give a s*** what anybody tells you
why, i was sleeping
Sorry to wake you up
ok.
thank you so much for taking the time to comment
