I’m embarrassed to admit this but I’m just discovering The Darkness. How on earth did I miss this? What a brilliant band, I love them! I’m buying all the albums one at a time and binge listening, I’m only up to Hot Cakes but I just absolutely love everything they do. So talented. Hopefully they tour the states next year.
I like how this video is a direct sequel to the I Believe in a Thing Called Love-video, and how it means that 1) Justin managed to make a complete change of cat suits, in the middle of a crash landing and 2) that the female alien and the four-armed towel monster is not stranded on the beach with the boys, so... they must have gone down with the ship and is now perished at the bottom of the sea 🥲
The last video before Frankie left the band, fortunately today Frankie is in the band again.😍Thank you Frankie for rejoin the band and thank you The Darkness for existing!!😎
I never came across this video back in the day (I Believe in a Thing Called Love, all the time), but I have never before see a music video that picks up directly where another one left off. That’s brilliant.
This song makes me happy, nostalgic, sad and hopeful all at the same time… that’s something when a song can do that. 💙 Only the Darkness could do that.
"I believe in a thing called love" was the only video ive ever watched by then. I just re watched it n clicked on this after. It was soo weird when it was a continuation.
I wish someone would make a distortion pedal that replicated his guitar tone on Permission to Land. Its been 20 years and I'm still impressed every time I hear it.
I'm from the States but had just moved to England when this album came out, and I loved it. It will always remind me of those times. I hate songs with the days of the week in them though, but that's ok.
My dad who grew up to Led Zeppelin said this band was the last true classic rock band to ever come to life. I agree! Great to hear this song again, it's a very underrated tune that rarely gets played on the radios nowadays. I also recommend Sloan which had/has a great classic rock sound.
I haven't heard this song in so long, god how I loved it when it first came out. I had no idea there was a video for it., I'm glad it was released as a single!!
For some reason, rock radio never pushed I Believe In A Thing Called Love in my country. The Darkness pretty much started and ended with Friday Night here. Which is also an all time banger, I just wish I heard more and checked them out more thoroughly back then.
It looks so weird being all clear & bright, haha! I’ve watched the unofficial one so many times it’s going to take a few views to get used to this official version. Good thing it’s such a GREAT song. I can watch this all day.
I remember searching for this video on the internet 20 years ago and having to squint at a little 240p version of it but I was still so happy to get a hold of it in Canada.
Im confused. Old song, old music video even. And yet, in 2023 it gets uploaded to UA-cam? Am I missing something? That said, this isnt a complaint in the slightest. Its kinda awesome to hear it this far down the line and this track (and corresponding album) still hold up today. Makes me wonder what hapened to that classic rock sound the Darkness brought back into the mainstream in 2003. 20 years man....
It was going to be released as a single but then scrapped, so the video only ever surfaced in leaks and promo stuff, this 20th anniversary stuff is the first time its inclusion's been official
Remember me the great song Friday i'm in love of the great The Cure. 😊
justin is singing like robert too, i think its by design. cool song!
Me too always thought I was the only one

If Darkness was its own genre, I'd call it Happy Rock. And it's what we all need in life. Love you!
Its like "Madness" prodigy.
Freedom Call - happy Metal band
Speak for yourself. I need a specific mixture of 60/40 anger to happy in my life.
Andrew WK is a pioneer of the genre.
Isn't it just a glam rock?
"The way she moves moves me to write bad poetry..." - always my favorite line.
It's an all time great bit of lyric writing
"Fursday". The Darkness are legit. The camp attracted me at first, but 20 years later, their tunes are still in constant rotation on my playlists.
i was there for them 20 years ago..this takes me back so much. i even wrote an essay about them at school
And Friday I’m in love.
Got permission first!
About time we got a high quality version of this video! Awesome. Still one of the best rock n roll debuts in the past few decades
Looks a poorly AI-upscaled version to me, but it's better than nothing.
HQ ? Where ? Not here ! Poor upscaled. Ringing. Ah well brilliant song..shite video anyways.
Sounds like the audio was remastered and Justin's growl was cut out!
Better late than never! I've seen them live 4 times now and it's such an experience. Enjoy!
If you haven't seen it, the lead singer also does UA-cam videos where he reacts to songs. They're pretty good!
You only need the first three albums ("Permission To Land", "One Way Ticket" and "Hot Cakes"). The albums that followed are crap.
Don't worry, much of their stuff was actually written in the 90's.
Oh man, what a time to be alive just learning about the Darkness lol
I like how this video is a direct sequel to the I Believe in a Thing Called Love-video, and how it means that 1) Justin managed to make a complete change of cat suits, in the middle of a crash landing and 2) that the female alien and the four-armed towel monster is not stranded on the beach with the boys, so... they must have gone down with the ship and is now perished at the bottom of the sea 🥲
That “Tuesday badminton” line hits deep
Permission to land is one of those CDs that i made sure to keep through the various house moves. What an album.
Bought it 3 times....scratched and...ah damn, again.
The last video before Frankie left the band, fortunately today Frankie is in the band again.😍Thank you Frankie for rejoin the band and thank you The Darkness for existing!!😎
This Band will be remembered fondly. I adore them
they're never going to stop making solid gold
I remember dancing to this CD and pretending to be Justin Hawkins as a 12 year old Catholic school girl.
I used to listen to this on repeat in high school, I never knew the lead singer was also the lead guitarist. It's on repeat right now.
I just absolutely adore Justin. Such a cutie and awesome personality too and massive pipes
Permission To Land is my favourite album of all time.
These music videos were THE BEST on MTV
20 years old. Crazy. I remember having the 2004 Grammy nominees CD as a kid and the darkness was on it. One of those childhood CDs that I held close
Ion give a fuk love on the rocks with no ice will always be me favorite song of theirs
Goddamn… I was a grown ass man when this came out. Now I feel old as shit.
Always loved this song
I love this song! Especially the line about all the extra-curricular activities.
I love how Justin fits in the word 'badminton'... Excellent.
I never came across this video back in the day (I Believe in a Thing Called Love, all the time), but I have never before see a music video that picks up directly where another one left off. That’s brilliant.
nailed the cure sound
Bless you Justin and The Darkness for making such sweet love to my eardrums with Rock N Roll
Thank you cocaine for making such a righteous groove. Too much times gone since love on the rocks with no ice.
The lead singer sounds like and reminds me of Russell Brand as Aldous Snow in Get Him to the Greek
Somehow it reminds me of a virtual blend of The Rolling Stones and The Cure. I love the band's sound!
And queen
🎶Monday 🚴♀️
Tuesday 🤸♀️
🕺💃 on a Friday night
I got ♥️♦️♣️♠️ Club on Wednesday

My fav Fridays song!!❤❤❤❤
In Italy the video was released in 2004. Glad to see it on yt in hd! 🎉
This song makes me happy, nostalgic, sad and hopeful all at the same time… that’s something when a song can do that. 💙 Only the Darkness could do that.
How did I not know this video existed?!?!
Justino mio... the Darkness... siete dei MITI! 🔥❤😂❤🔥
La mia adolescenza... vi voglio bene!
This is one of the best songs of all time !!! And great video too!
THis is a nice consolation prize for missing out on tickets when you swung thru the US this fall!
YEAH so where is growing on me? Its my favorite music from this era!
Hola The Darkness 😃tuve un problema y tuve que formatear mi tablet y entonces se me borró todo pero ahora tengo otro Gmail nuevo y os sigo de nuevo en Spotify y UA-cam❤❤❤
F depression drugs. Give me the Darkness.
Quite an underrated band with a totally kick-ass singer...👌
J'ai eu la chance d'assister à leur dernier concert samedi 18 au Luxembourg et qui ont joué ce morceau ! The darkness ,un des meilleurs groupes de hard rock anglais !
"I believe in a thing called love" was the only video ive ever watched by then. I just re watched it n clicked on this after. It was soo weird when it was a continuation.
I like it cause it’s like they thought “let’s keep these good vibes going.” And starts this song
I love this song and video. It's so stinkin cute!
I just love seeing the joy on Justin's face every time he performs. The man is thoroughly loving his job!
Прикольная группа:) Мелодичный рок и солист...хм... харизматичный:)) ну и самоирония!
Bold of you to upload this on a Monday
The Brit’s are rocking roll! It the lilt.
Sorry, but they've stopped selling lilt now in the UK. I think they've changed it to fanta tropical now.
@@robambrose4199 it’s the way you talk lilt I have a Bostonian lilt you under stand now?
@@drumwitch4585 Thank-you, I do understand now. If you're into that sort of lilt, you might like Jedward too.
@@robambrose4199 I definitely do not like that
@@drumwitch4585 : )
I wish someone would make a distortion pedal that replicated his guitar tone on Permission to Land. Its been 20 years and I'm still impressed every time I hear it.
This man helped me believe in a thing called love, and I will never forget him for it. 🧡
If you don’t look like you’re making love to your guitar then you’re playing the guitar wrong. Justin knows what he’s doing lol love this band sm
I am happy to see a well REVAMP of friday night here
MUCH Music let us down after The Darkness for rock n roll.
I feel like a youngster falling in love with music again with this song. Never heard it before.
I have been listening to this on almost every Thursdays in anticipation of Friday, and on Fridays to keep my mood up!
“The Darkness Ride’s Again !!”,Great song guys 🔥🔥🫡😀
Love Justin he’s just a legend all round nice guy😄 always loved this song
Hell yes! I believe in a thing called The Darkness.
HOORAY!!!!
Finally a better quality upload!
My fav Darkness song
Simply awesome!
bloody love the darkness.
This is the song that got me into The Darkness. It’s my favorite. Since then, The Darkness has become my favorite band along with Queen.
These guys remind me of queen it's awesome😂
This looks amazing! Watching this now versus then seeing all the details is crazy.
WHAT A GENIUS
Love this song! Great to see this video again. Justin is magnetic as always.
This is the type of stuff that creates future True Rock Stars and Gods. Thank you guys. Stay Awesome.
I just love how goofy all their videos were!
La mejor banda de la historia; vengan a Chile!!!! Los esperamos
Finally a quality upload of this video!!🔥🙏
I'm from the States but had just moved to England when this album came out, and I loved it. It will always remind me of those times. I hate songs with the days of the week in them though, but that's ok.
favorite episode of the mighty boosh so far
My dad who grew up to Led Zeppelin said this band was the last true classic rock band to ever come to life. I agree! Great to hear this song again, it's a very underrated tune that rarely gets played on the radios nowadays. I also recommend Sloan which had/has a great classic rock sound.
I mean....there's Greta van Fleet
Whole album is good. The idea of it as a continuous movie is so cool.
This is the best Darkness song, just musically immaculate
The Darkness at their best. Brilliant.
I haven't heard this song in so long, god how I loved it when it first came out. I had no idea there was a video for it., I'm glad it was released as a single!!

the bengy bennngger ... been listening to this for over 15 years, cant stop
You guys are The Real Thing and this girl is so happy you are👏🎸🙌🏼
It’s the time of the year when I listen to “Christmas Time” on repeat.
Remastered release also fine, I guess 🤷🏾♂️
Pretty sure permission to land was the first CD I ever bought myself when i was 13 years old. still the best album of the last 20 years 🤘
It looks so weird being all clear & bright, haha! I’ve watched the unofficial one so many times it’s going to take a few views to get used to this official version. Good thing it’s such a GREAT song. I can watch this all day.
Another GREAT SONG and AWESOME video! LOVE this BAND!!!! ROCK and ROLL FOREVER!!! Do you agree? 👍
How have I never seen this.
Yes!
I would love to watch this on MTV Brazil, but this doesn't exist anymore. Good to listen you guys!
Always liked this video. So sweet - aww!
Getting big the cure vibes
I remember searching for this video on the internet 20 years ago and having to squint at a little 240p version of it but I was still so happy to get a hold of it in Canada.
Great Song..Great Band..love them so much❤❤❤
Finally!!👍
omfg yes this video is finally on youtube in higher quality!!!!!!!!!
I had never heard of The Darkness until my brother in law told me about them. I recently picked up 2 of their albums. Great band 👍🏻
20 years ago this didn't remind me of The Cure but it sure does now
You rock Justin. Again.
This just reminded me of when I saw The Darkness earlier this year. It was a good night
If Freddie Mercury and Austin Powers somehow had a love child haha, also underrated music...
Oh my god. I can't believe it's been 20 years. My friends and I loved this album so dang much.
Where has this video been hiding? Out-fucking-standing!
Gotta be one of my Darness favourites.
Im confused. Old song, old music video even. And yet, in 2023 it gets uploaded to UA-cam? Am I missing something?
