The equipment I used to record this video was just a Washburn acoustic guitar, a Joe Perry porcelain Boneyard slide, and the microphone on my laptop which, I admit is not ideal, and if I recorded it again I would use a better microphone.
Face Of Light is a song written and Recorded by American rock n roll band Rival Sons. It was the last single released from their second album Pressure And Time in 2011 and peaked at number 12 on the Canadian Rock Chart. The video for the single was filmed in the area known as the Peak District in the United Kingdom.
Being primarily known as a hard rock n roll band, Face Of Light shows the softer side of Rival Sons, with clean electric and acoustic guitars being used, and angelic vocals.
To play this song properly as shown in the video, you must retune your guitar to open G tuning (DGDGBD). This means that the first string is tuned down a full step from E to D, the second string remains at B, the third string remains at G, the 4th string remains at D the 5th string is tuned down a full step to G, and the sixth string is tuned down a full step to D. Open G is a beautiful tuning that allows the strings to ring differently to the way the do in standard tuning.
There are a few techniques you need to be competent at in order to play this song. The first is basic chord strumming (Please note the chords in open G tuning are fingered differently to how they are in standard tuning), the second is finger picking, and the third is slide guitar.
