    This is fantastic! It’s like listening to a podcast but was recorded in 2001. If only there was so much more we could hear from these two tragic icons.

      Go to Papa Shangos Classic Wrestling Interviews UA-cam page and they have an interview from him on there from 2007, exactly three months before what he did to his family. It’s quite bizarre hearing him knowing what would happen.

      How was your relationship with Chris? I am literally such a big fan of Chris, the wrestler part, I mean. It's horrible what happened to Nancy and Daniel, but I'll always remember Chris Benoit for who he was as a wrestler.

      @@jonathancrosby2959 Tom and I had a great relationship with Chris , but of course that was many years before he was in WCW and WWE. He was always a polite and respectful young man as many of his colleagues from that era attest to. Last time I spoke to Chris and met Nancy was at Owen's funeral. There were no outward signs at that time of his CTE. That's the danger of brain injuries. It can manifest so slowly that families don't recognize it's happening. :(

    Benoit was the only wrestler I saw in person. Saw him in the airport. In fact, I was in the same plane. But I didn’t talk to him. He didn’t look like he wanted to be bothered. That was back in 97.

    We all know Dynamite was Benoit’s Idol when he was young and just getting into the business. The Diving head butt, snap suplex, both men were smaller guys in the business. Sadly both men also had their demons.

      The Dynamite Kid And Chris Benoit are my idolized hero when I become a wrestler in MWF Philippines and my name is Ang Dinamitang Bata or in English The Dynamite Kid my wrestling style is being discriminated by the owners of the MWF because of Very Deadly moves including the snapsuplex diving head butt's and hardest chops and German Suplex the owner told me if you don't change your wrestling style I will fired you and I said you don't have to tell me that because I quit because of your stupid discrimination shit

      Do a youtube search of "Chris Benoit Dynamite Kid Stampede" and you'll find a good few actual videos of them together. There's even a video of Dynamite on Stampede doing a kind of impromptu promo where he "passes his boots down" (literally) to Chris Benoit, and then goes on to make a prediction that he'll become one of the top workers of the 90's.

    Both of these men had some of the most incredible, innovative matches of all time. Supremely talented individuals who deserve respect for their work in the ring n paving the way for so many superstars of today. Both men had very serious demons they fought every single day, and both met tragic ends. I'm not condoning what they did OUTSIDE the ring whatsoever, nothing can excuse those things, BUT I give them tremendous credit for what they did in the ring and everything they gave to the business and the fans at the expense of their own safety and well being. Thank you for posting this and giving us this reminder of what they were outside of the demons they both faced. Excellent interview

    I saw Dynamite Kid vs Bad News Allen in Vancouver BC at the Agridome in 1982. When Tom blasted into the ring ahead of his match wearing his patented gauze headband everyone in the stadium was in stunned awe. He was jacked and had such a presence. Then the main event happened later with him and Bad News... was absolutely Awsome. At one point Bad News exited the ring as things got too hot for him.As he circled the back fringe of the crowd on the floor a large biker stepped up into his face. There was a brief heated verbal exchange between them before the biker started slinging punches at Bad News, who promptly put on a display of head and foot movement while firing back ending the fight in about 8 seconds before continuing circling around through the outer perimeter of the standing floor crowd before entering back into the ring to continue battling Dynamite. The place was going absolutely nuts!! Best ever!! Both of them

    This guy doesn’t sound extremely angry or bitter to me. He sounds like a guy that knew the cards he was dealt and that to stand toe to toe with the giants in the jungle of his first love which at the time was 80’s pro wrestling and more specifically WWF wrestling with his stature he had to take ZERO shit and prove/produce 5x as much entertainment as the average size guys to be considered an equal and he used whatever gave him that necessary advantage mentally, physically or even spiritually to do so or to get that job done. Correct me if I’m wrong.

      I know this might be too much to ask for Nik here and if he even had access to them all but would love to see in Chronological order all the times the Bulldogs worked with the Hart Foundation. It’s got to be many, many hundreds of matches those 4 had with each other. Not even including the singles matches they had with each other. Maybe the greatest tag team chemistry any 4 guys ever had with one another, great feud too in 1986/87 as the Hart’s and Bulldogs always put on classic bouts.

      I would love to and have been looking for his matches around 84 when they first got into the WWF as underneath guys or any matches where dynamite had the more European style that included the cartwheels, front flip and headstand tumbling routines!! Dynamite did that the best/most believable to where it didn’t seem silly at all and actually was quite stunning to watch. Considering the time frame I was left in awe. There’s one such match on the network under there WWF Old School tab which are mostly MSG shows. Although the one I’m referencing was in Toronto in 84 vs the moon dogs I believe or at least a tag team that look liked them and it was on a card where Andre the giant vs Kamala in a steel cage was the Main Event. Even with the main event being good for it’s time the bulldogs and specifically Tommy stole the show it was like they were aliens from the future that were dropped into maple leaf gardens arena in 1984.

    We heard Jeff Marek talk about Justin Liger. Justin Liger broke into the Wrestling business in Stampede Wrestling under his real name of Keiichi Yamada in 1987. Unfortunately he never won the British Commonwealth Mid Heavyweight Belt because it was moving between Great Gama, Chris Benoit, Johnny Smith and Owen Hart. I was a huge fan of young Mr.Yamada.

    • @misterslats
      @misterslats 2 роки тому +3

      Keiichi Yamada DID NOT "break into the wrestling business in Stampede Wrestling". The man had already had nearly 400 matches in the MUCH bigger NJPW promotion working with some of the best wrestlers on the face of the planet over 3.5 years in front of waaaay more people than he ever worked in front of in Calgary. Do you really think a man who already worked with Muta, Chono, Goto, Hashimoto, Funaki, and Kimura in the Tokyo Dome and Korakuen Hall wasn't "broken in" until he wrestled BJ Annis or Ben f'n Bassarab in Brocket Alberta in front of 250 people??? Keiichi Yamada learned the North American style of wrestling in Calgary. Nothing more, nothing less.
