Marie N brought Latvia their first Eurovision victory in Tallinn with 'I Wanna.' Her captivating performance featured a dramatic costume change from a white suit and trilby hat to a stunning red dress. Latvia received 'douze points' from nine countries, helping them achieve 176 points and win the Contest for the first time since debuting in 2000.

One day Latvia will deliver once again and the NQ streak will be just a bad memory.
@@ivanmartin1457Dons broke the NQ streak!

Worst winner of all time
Ah yes, the prodigy that started choreographed performances into ESC, bravo.

Say whatever you want, this is a deserving winner. It completely revolutionized the way performances were made. Also she's a hell of a perfomer!
Yeah! I am not from Latvia, but I totally agree that you sent magnificent song. That’s masterpiece.
a lot of people don't realize how revolutionary this was back then, not that i was there, but this song was basically very ahead of its time back then and was very unique
Latvia was lucky at Eurovision 2002 three times before Marie N even took to the stage.
It was the EBU’s intention that only 22 countries would participate in Tallinn, the top 15 countries from the 2001 contest plus the seven countries that had been relegated from the 2001 contest. As Latvia had finished 18th in Copenhagen, it was out of Eurovision 2002. Latvia’s first stroke of luck was the EBU’s later decision to allow 24 countries to go to Tallinn, even if this decision didn’t help Latvia initially.
The decision did help the countries that had finished 16th and 17th in Copenhagen, Israel and Portugal, as it gave them a place for 2002. But…Portugal declined and voluntarily took a year out. This was Latvia’s second piece of luck.
With Portugal out, the final place for 2002 was then offered to the country that finished 18th in Copenhagen. However, two countries had finished 18th in 2001, the Netherlands and Latvia.
To decide which country would receive the place, the rules stated that the tie-break rule should be applied and the country that was awarded the most 12 points, and then 10 points, eight points and so on if necessary to break the tie, at the previous contest would qualify for Tallinn. Neither the Netherlands nor Latvia received any 12 or 10 points in 2001, but Latvia had received eight points twice and the Netherlands hadn’t received any, and so Latvia was on its way to Eurovision 2002.
There would be a different tie-break rule in place in 2003, and had that tie-break rule been in place in 2002, then the Netherlands would have been awarded the place in Tallinn.
Omg Excellent analysis
Accept that Latvia is the winner 🤗😘
Although I’m happy that we won that song shouldn’t have won it isn’t special or that good
@@krabiks580dude its 2002 none of the songs are thet good
As a Latvian, I don't really like this song, but it was the show that worked. I remember when we won, we called up our friends and went out to celebrate in the streets of a suburb of Riga.
Back to 2002
Latvia 🇱🇻 won Eurovision. This choreography was ICONIC.
For me is this the best entry from Latvia.
She was stunning that evening in 2002 Eurovision

This was the most pivotal moment of all Eurovision history. After that, countries understood the power of stage performance and focused on that. The 2nd is Lordi, when they understood the power of shock.

The winner of the year I was born 🥰
one of my fave winners! bring it home Latvia!
A masterful performance and a deserved winner. Greetings from Spain.
My favorite winner from all time 👌🏼
While I am not a big fan of this winner, I am happy it transcended choreography in the Eurovision Song Contest. 🙂
This song is very impressive love from turkey 🇹🇷
This is a historical song
Way ahead of it's time, which might explain why it won. Shame she simply disappeared after ESC, wonder if she still performs?
@@Denis-89 She's a still performer in Latvia. Search - Marija Naumova 😊
Ahead of its time - how? 😂
I'd say this was at the right time. Eurovision was kinda boring with everyone keeping Status Quo, she broke the norm and Eurovision became fun. She does perform sometimes, but mostly lives a calm family life. She did an interview a while ago and said she ''disappeared'' because she did not want to sell out. She got offered deals, but she did not want to give someone all the control over her life and schedule.

I know I am a bit weird but this is one of the best winners ever in my opinion. 😂🙈
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH MAN /p
Marie N deserved the win.
Much better winner than Estonia and Azerbaijan imo. Even if the song itself is dull, as some people say (personally I love the song), the performance made this winner memorable.
🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻
This was the first Eurovision Contest I saw because here in Spain, people were obsessed with Rosa and the talent show where she came from.
When I saw this performance, I rooted for Marie and celebrated when Latvia won. Well deserved!
Queen💜✨👑
This performance is still amazing. 😍
The song itself, however, isn't even a top 15 entry.

The Talinn Miracle..
Latvia not should participate because her bad result in 2002. But the quit of Portugal (not relegated by results) eventually could say present.
But until this day it wasn't among the favourites for winning. For example, Spain (was ended 7th) was a great candidate for the trophy.
And well, Marie N came, surprised everybody and like a fever the voters finally made the ESC fly to Riga.
Accept that Latvia is the winner 🤗😘
Love this song ❤️ love from Portugal
My second favourite song after Cyprus entry
I was 4y. when Latvia won. And i knowed this fact when i started watching Eurovision in 2015 😅

I remember watching this performance. I was 13
My mother was so upset Sweden didn´t send Mendez with Adrenaline to ESC 2002 , it would have been battle with Latvia
I don't think so, Malta also was stronger!
Not my favorite winner in ESC history, but Latvia gave us one of the best editions that I still rewatch from time to time.
We are so proud that ESC is a living organism it is alive and evolution never ends 🙏🙏🙏 Awesome for its time but now people may boo 😮😮😮 In the meantime there was a so funny & famous song around those years called "I wanna MMM" and next year a rude Anatolian country ended up first 🤔☢️
Don 't be ridiculous , looking at the preferences and tastes at the competition , on the contrary, the feeling that people 's tastes have fallen for the worse
Marie N puso unas bases que ahora mismo todos los participantes utilizan. Sin "I wanna", a saber dónde estaríamos ahora. Y los gustos musicales son muy subjetivos.
Lo que jamás volverá, por suerte, es la brasa que nos dieron con Operación Triunfo y "Europe is living a celebration".
@@kgw72 le habría pasado lo mismo que a la OTI, o no?

One of the weakest ever winners, but kudos to Marie N for realising before anyone else that it wasn’t enough anymore to just stand static on stage and sing. To get votes from the public, you had to grab people’s attention. And she certainly did.
Salsa flavour on an Estonian stage with Latvian artists: quite a bright idea and an inventive choreography. But the lyrics of tjisbsong are sooooooooo simple and basic 😮

Seriously this in 2025? Wasn’t supposed to be. Something more modern😂? Vibes of 1970s years 😅😅
Possibly the worst and most undeserved winning song in Eurovision history
The fact that something like this nowadays wouldn't be able to qualify for the grand final let alone win the whole thing
I like many of the Latvian entries over the years, but this was one of the worst. The performance and choreography were excellent, but the song itself was rubbish. If you want the best entry that should have won it can only be Aminata (2015). Head and shoulders above all the others.
It was a great achievement in the middle of Latvian Golden Decade 1994-2004.
? Latvia started partcipating in Eurovision in 2000
With all due respect... Together with Azerbaijan one of the worst winners ever. Like the song is not bad bad, it's just mid

One of the worst winning songs, along with 2001's 'Everybody" and 2011's "Running Scared"
One million percent agreed!!!!
I remember watching this, thinking that this was just a badly sung, weak song. Imagine my surprise when it won 😂😂😂
I also hate the 2001 winner. So bland and boring, that they didn't even bother dressing up for it.

She wasn’t the first to do it though

Eurovision’un en kötü kazanan şarkısı. Hatta öyle ki, bu şarkı diğer senelerde yarışsaydı finale bile kalamazdı çoğunda.
One of the worst winners. Sorry
