Rest in Peace, my friend. The Toecutter never forgets.
He rides eternal SHINY AND CHROME !
@sgfhk321 Anything you say.
May he live on forever in Valhalla 🙏🙏🙏
Remember him when you look in the night sky. As he is riding in Valhalla all shiny and chrome.
He goes down historic in the fury road
Could have been a perfect James Bond bad guy. Miller saw his greatness at the start and end of his career.
very underrated actor.
Well maybe after fury road he will act in more movies hopefully a leading role!
Thank you just seen it...
ano niem He was awesome in this role!
Indeed immortan joe was a great character deserves his own movie.
You are so right,.. ano niem
Rest In Peace Hugh Keays Byrne. You will ride forever eternal, Shiny and Chrome on the highways of Valhalla!

He has the best bad guy voice in the entire world. He should just play the bad guy for every movie ever from now on.
yeah, its likes banes voice broke and us now very metal xD
About that...
The absolute best! It always sucks when I watch movies and the villains voice is a let down. This was about as good as it gets. Super intimidating
Imagine if he and Alan Rickman had made movie. God that would've been the best.
him and charles dance
He has an intriguing quality about him, a very charismatic speaker.
George Miller said that when Hugh would walk on set he owned it, and not only the Warboys and stuntmen but even like the cameramen and crew would make the hand sign to him and call him the Immortan.
Sangth .S Watch the 45 minute+ interview with George and Hugh at the Alamo Draft house viewing. George explains this so beautifully as why it was so important to the film. It was critical that they treated Hugh as a virtual god behind the scenes to make what happened on camera convincing.
@@markdecker7489 A belated thanks for this call out (with Robert Rodriquez as the interviewer, no less)! I love the humility to know he would struggle to bring the character to fruition, and the self-awareness and confidence to ask for the immersion he needed on the set to bring Immortan Joe to life to his high standards. And I think he had enthusiastic participation from the army of actors and crew. RIP Hugh.

So happy George brought him back for the new series.
MrBracey100 He seems like such a nice guy when he is himself, but boy when he is in character he is Eeeeevil.....and he does it so well. :D
DementedCaver That's the mark of a great actor for sure.
Absolutely. I love seeing him out of character. Because I want to give him a hug for scaring the shit out of me as a kid with the original Mad Max. A truly great actor.
Still sounds exactly the same as he did as Toecutter.
Got chills when he did that whisper talk thing at the end of the interview lol

ikr. It's almost as if they were the same person!
You can so tell just by watching this interview that he absolutely loved making this movie
I too would love filming a movie where I get to look like I came out of a metal album cover art and ride the most badass vehicles ever
The editing of these clips was....MEDIOCRE
Beyond
Interesting user name........considering whats going on in Hollywood
Mediocre 👍😉
You are being too generous lol
We remember the Nightrider!
Bichpants McGee Just remember ... to keep your sweet.. sweet mouth shut - Toecutter!!!!
neckisstiff I wish they brought that actor back for the sequel. He'd be an awesome villain.
Bichpants McGee Remember him when ya look in the night's sky.
Scott Laursen "We remember the night rider and we know who you are" - Johnny
Zatchooze Naut Do you see me Toecutter... do you see me maaaaaannnnn ha h aha !
his got an aboriginal pin on his shirt. respect, brother 👏
Rest in peace mister Keays-Byrne. You were a amazing bad guy in "Mad Max" and "Mad Max : Fury Road".
I like his explanation of Joe's vision- how he feels he helps his tribe- and how the villain is never a villain in his own mind. I also think he's an even better villain now than 35 years ago: more gravitas.
I love to see an actor so into their role, and so grateful to have the opportunities they have. It's honestly heartwarming to see Hugh so grateful, complimentary and enthusiastic about being a part of this film so long after his little indie film went so massive. I love this.
he is pure charisma
Mr Keays Byrne is a Shakespearen trained actor. what a iconic Villain he portrays.
Man, his voice as Immortan Joe has got to be one of the most badass bad guy voices in cinema.
I like how the extras stayed in character while filming and not filming there is a video of Hugh Keays-Byrne walking around the set and the War boys were yelling IMMORTAN!!!
One of the best on screen villains ever! The eyes, facial expressions, the body language, guy really puts everything into a character.
So awesome he is in this movie!
Tobey Starburst Dude it blew my mind when I found out he played Toecutter and the Immortal, TOO HOT SUN!
Watched all the Mad Max back to back. They Must do another Max within the next few years from now.
TheGodStarwalker They are, the next one is called "The Wasteland". There might be another after that one as well.
50 Shades Of Bacon I hope so, I would love to do the story book or the movie sketch ruff draft.
Toecutter is one of the most memorable, vicious villains I've ever seen on film.
Right up there with the Kurgan from Highlander.
Brilliant. Hugh is amazing as always.
Toecutter never dies, best movie villain forever keeps going.
I would love to see the entire interview. I've read that Mr. Keays-Byrne is a very down to earth sort of guy who just says it like it is and rolls with whatever happens in his life. He still has that intensity of character I so admired when he portrayed Toecutter, and now I notice that the man actually has lovely blue eyes. I hope that when I'm nearly seventy (if I manage to live that long) that I still have hair as cool as his too. Appearance stuff aside, great to see him back in Fury Road. How in the hell did he get his voice to sound like that though? I have a deep voice, but when I tried that, it hurt!
They should amalgamate both parts as one and call him Immortan Joe-Cutter
Bill Proud I have a theory that Toecutter somehow survived the crash in the first film and re-emerged as Immortan Joe. The only inconsistency with this theory is that Toecutter (or at least the dummy double) lost an arm in that crash.
areasevenpro Well, the character of Immortan Joe is supposingly a man who came back from the dead, so you could be onto something there. My theory of the Toecutter is that he and Bubba were ex-cops themselves that turned mad in the dawn of the anarchy that was about to bestow onto the world. I mean, if you notice in the first movie, the Toecutters gang are a bunch of drug-crazed maniacs who rape and pillage not for survival but out of enjoyment, whereas toecutter and bubba never seem to engage in such activity(if anything, they seem to frown upon it, as they seem to have a much deeper agenda) plus Bubba`s jacket looks like a slightly modified MFP patrol man`s, and his firearm is standard issued for members of the force and the precision he uses the weapon with looks like he`s been trained to use it. Also, if you remember the scene where Max tries to hand in his notice to his boss Fifi at his apartment, he says his reason for it is he`s "afraid that he`s starting to enjoy it and if he carries on, his going to end up like one of those blood crazed maniacs out there" perhaps this is what happened to the Toecutter and Bubba, which explains their deep hatred for the bronze
areasevenpro I was thinking the same thing too.... Toecutter could've survived that crash and been wrecked for awhile. Then emerged years later as Immortan Joe. I wish Bubba could've survived... he was bad ass.
neckisstiff Bubba was cold, cerebral and fairly intelligent but despite his homicidal tendencies, he seemed to possess a conscience on some level. I loved how he hated being lumbered with babysitting duties when it came to retreiving Johnny the Boy from jail. But out of all the mad max villains from the original trilogy, ToeCutter and Bubba are my favourites, I would of love to see how they`d fare against the Lord Humungus and wez, that would of been interesting. But yeah, that would be a good storyline that Toecutter survived and when he came back round he graduated from biker gang leader to warlord/dictator. Did you know at one time that was going to be the story behind Lord Humungus that he was going to be exposed as Jim Goose from the first movie. It was in the original script but eventually got written out before shooting the Road Warrior
Bill Proud Another hint to this theory is the motto of the War Boys: "I Live, I Die, I Live Again."
His Toecutter character was so creepy and dastardly. It’s so nice to see him out of character and hearing his educated mind. What an incredible actor. RIP!!! :(
Hugh and George managed to deliver a second villain in this universe just as memorable and interesting as the original Toe Cutter.
"DON'T BECOME ADDICTED TO WATER, IT WILL CONTROL YOU AND YOU WILL GROW TO RESENT ITS ABSENCE"
The moment I heard that I was like yeah this film is fully embracing its absurdity and is fully committed to insanity. Absolutely wonderful film, go see it now!!!!
Peter Elliott The best part is that there's a *method* for all its madness, it's absolutely logical in its own batshit way.
Indeed there is.
It was just so wonderful to see a film thats this absurd yet so commited to its strangeness that you don't question its oddities and bizarre moments
This is a film with a flamethrower guitar playing bungie rope nutcase attached to a truck full of amps, and no point did I second guess that.
This film actually managed to make a world with stuff like that seem lived in and possible.
Peter Elliott George Miller's just that kind of visionary when it comes to world building, and I love it so much. Only he could go this far and not come across as just being crazy for its own sake; he went the extra mile where it makes SENSE like you said.
+Peter Elliott Immortan Joe was awesome but it's still hard to beat the Humongous.
He was the Ayatollah of Rock'n'Rollah after all....
Yeah that was a fuckin sweet ass speach.
Remember him when you look at the night sky.
+StitchV2 Anything you say
+Bill Proud Anything I say? What an interesting philosophy.
+StitchV2 what a wonderfull philosophy you have.
+Daniel Clift Bubba. Johnny.....TSST!
Damnit, I was going to say that!! lol Good stuff.
Just home from the cinema, watching Mad Max. Great movie. And Byrne was awesome!
why is this man not all over cinema?
He looks like a wonderful guy, really animated, really passionate.
I hope this film boosts him a bit so we can see him in other projects.
first saw him in 'The Man from Hong Kong' hugely underrated action film from the early 70's, one of his first major roles.
Bringing him back for Fury Road was a master stroke by Miller, a great Actor, he's the Australian DeNiro.
Wait what? 35 years ago? Oh my God!! Just looked him up. You learn something new every day!!! Nice to see Toecutter back!! Loved the movie!!
He was the best!
Its awesome that they got this guy back in the franchise! Not the same character but still kickass. Like "Ano Niem" said. Very underrated actor
The Toecutter is iconic--a master of the power of subtlety! So glad Mr. Keays-Byrne he was brought back for "Fury"!
Awesome. He sure looks happy to play that roll. Very grateful and appreciative. Great actor
I remember watching a behind-the-scenes (today looking back) video of the production team of Mad Max. Everyone had such nice things to say about Hugh. Now I can see why. What a totally cool cat!
Rest in peace, good Sir. You were one of the best and you will be missed.
Toecutter..........that snake hissssss XD
RIP ... 2020 does not stop getting worse
Ha! Love the Toecutter voice at the end!
He's like a mix of all the villains of the previous Mad Max movies... Not only is he played by Toecutter's actor, he's a deformed masked guy kinda like Lord Humungus and he has long hair and is the patriarchal leader of a community of survivors kinda like like Aunty Entity.
And I got alittle bit of a Blaster vibe from Prince Rictus Erectus' character...
Amazing actor!!!
2 Outstanding villains!!!
FURY ROAD IS THE BEST MOVIE I SEE IN DECADES!!!
HE LOOKED AT ME!!! HE LOOKED AT ME!!!
He was looking at your blood back!
He was scanning the horizon!
I could listen to this guy talk for hours. What a golden voice.
rip Hugh Keays-Byrne, you will ride etarnal, Shiny and Chrome!
Bringing Keays-Byrne back for the newest installment of Mad Max was one of the best moves in recent movie production. One of the greatest villain portrayals of all time in the toecutter, back with yet another bang up performance as immortan Joe. My only disappointment in the new film was the lack of a cameo by Gibson and/or Bisley (actor who played Goose).
Love how excited he is about the whole thing
Rest In Peace, Immortan Joe! What a wonderful actor and a good man. Go easy into Valhalla ☹️
this guy should have been in more movies
HE LOOKED AT ME!!!!!
"I am yo redeemer,it is by my hand, you will rise from the ashes of this world" the voice iz nuts.i cant stop watching dis movie
What a man, RIP \m/
So memorable and charismatic. A great villain. Intelligent and nuanced. I never found him overly theatric but very entertaining
There HAS to be more to this interview, it was a kick to see him after all these years! He'll always be Toecutter though, and you can see/hear it right here. So awesome!
what a great insight of his character he gave, he channeled that dark, convincing and intimidating energy so well, incredible actor, I would have loved to see more than just a movie with him playing the immortan Joe, but still I really aprecciate his job in this movie. Rest In Peace mister.
Light me Johnny
floydster23 Quit toying Bubba....- toecutter
Easy... I know what I'm doing - Bubba
neckisstiff Bubba Zanetti was my favorite.
Station Master - That must be your friend over there. They didn't leave much of him.
Bubba - Must've cut his heart out, eh?
floydster23 .... allow me....to continue:
Station Master - Yeah that's what I meant... poor bastard
"whooosh" - Toecutters head turning fast
Toecutter - The night rider....that is his name... the night rider.....
Station Master - The night rider
Toecutter - remember him when you look at the night sky
Station Master - I will
Toecutter - take your hat off
Station Master - anything you say....
Toecutter - Anything I say.... what a wonderful philosophy you have... take him away.....Bubba ... Johnny..... puffffff
LOL
Blumeanie165 "I am the Night Rider..... I'm a fuel injected suicide machine......."
RIP Hugh Keays-Byrne, now you are inmortal 😞🙏 !!!
Do not become addicted to waterrr..
RIP so sad to hear of his passing this week
Yes, me to... Very sad, I like him character in mad max fury road, 🌹
TOECUTTER best Mad Max Badass ...Hugh Keays-Byrne ^^ nice to see him again
so cool, i had no idea he was gonna be in this one until today!!!!!
when he started whispering at the end all i could hear was
"the night rider, that is his name the night rider.........remember him when you look at the night sky"
I really appreciate this interview. Finally nice to see an actor recognize all the hard work that goes on behind the camera. I think the actors probably contribute the least while consuming the most.
he seems like a great guy :)
That was a fabulous watch.
I think you are GREAT!! A big time actor, to bring to light the current , cinematic presence of Mad Max
I admired your acting and I keep thinking of you. You are already a legend I will remember you forever Rest peacefully in heaven🎉
Awesome. He actually seems crazy
Nims the line between brilliance and crazy is exceptionally thin and in places it is stretched so taunt that the harmonic of both personality traits resonate against one another and create something stronger and far more dangerous....think we see that in the film
Yeah, but not Mel Gibson crazy...
might be pretty close
Nims He doesnt seem crazy! He seems extremely excited to have a major role in a blockbuster movie. When he was in the first movie, they were all unknowns, including the director, so he couldnt have been as excited then, but now, with the sheer scale of the moviemaking, he is just over the moon about being a part of it, thats all.
Nims wtf? he doesn' seem crazy in the slightest... just very excited & enthusiastic
Toecutter! I knew your name but I always say Toecutter. I only saw Hugh in old Mad Max and never seen him in other movies and TV show but never forget him in mad max and now in Mad Max fury road. Can't wait see it! Yeah, I haven't went to theater yet.
I saw a video of him in in all the makeup, between takes, staying in character while yelling at all the extras and stuntmen and they were all loving it. It was hilarious.
These guy was amazing ❤️
Another great one has entered into the Halls of Valhalla. R.I.P.🙏
what a genuine soul
The whispered bit at the end, shades of The Toecutter 😊👍
I was so happy to see that old Hugh was in another MM, and no small part, either; the most badass bad guy ever.
what a gracious human being
Bubba.....Johnny......!
Toecutter....just look in his eyes....amazing
R.I.P thank you for making an outstanding performance
Thank you for being this through the decades that have passed Hugh. /o\
Saw it today . Amazing
I love it when they get original cast members back into re spins of a movie.
It's even better when that character is a villain for some reason.
Makes it seem easier to watch if you have seen the original, Same with any film.
I guess the character and actor that plays them grow on you and you want to see them again.
Great work 🫡😎
Just saw MAD MAX: FURY ROAD yesterday. I felt this was Furiosa's movie and Max was overshadowed by her character. With that being said? HUGH KEAYS-BYRNE as IMMORTAN JOE was fantastic. Better than the TOECUTTER he played in the original MAD MAX. Loved the mask Joe wore. Loved the movie. Definitely the best MAD MAX movie. And I loved THE ROAD WARRIOR aka MAD MAX 2!
Rest in peace, Immortan Joe. May you ride eternal, shiny and chrome to the gates of Valhalla.
That voice......takes me back to when I was 7 years old watching "Mad Max" on cable tv with my dad. right up there with Hannibal Lektor in recognizability, haha:-)
Very underrated dry sense of humor he has.
MAGNIFICANT
Immortan!!!! Immortan Joe!!!
Godspeed, Hugh. Ride eternal, shiny and chrome.
Crazy. I love him.
Great actor... Bravo
Its great to see him again hehehe,
Hugh! Love ya man. You always rock brother.
Watching this, I just realized what made this movie so unique and amazing. It's that so much of it was downright absurd - tearing across the desert in hot rods, the use of semi trucks as battleships, the truck loaded with concert speakers and a guy with flamethrower guitar on it, and so on. Yet it never felt corny, never felt like the absurdity was questioned by anyone. The absurdity was fully embraced by everyone involved - director, cast, crew, characters - and the result was spectacular, so much so that you get fully immersed in it and never realize how absurd it all is. There are plenty of other movies out there with absurdity, but the absurdity feels mocked, even if not on purpose, and the result seems cheesy.
But it's not for you, Bubba ...
MmeDesgranges Me? No way! Not me! Not for him!
Johnny The Boy has done it again. He's never going to learn!
But we are going to teach him, Bubba. You are going to go back for him.
MmeDesgranges That there is Contalini....and Contalini wants his hand back....
neckisstiff Kundalini! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini
MmeDesgranges My bad.... I just saw his name in the end credits.....LOL
