One word about the school bullying: the reason NZ stands out is that they made the effort of recording and investigating, unlike for example Japan, which has one of the worst bully cultures on the planet but nobody really ever looked into it for the real numbers.
Sorry but the only time I have experienced bullying in the workplace was in New Zealand, it's part of the culture, probably due to the lack of maturity and responsibility.
The bullying here in NZ truly is extreme. I've lived in many countries and I've never seen anything like it. I literally had my therapist screen me for an obscure personality disorder because I couldn't shake the feeling that people are out to get me. I didn't have the disorder. I was told, "It's not paranoia if it's really happening."
I have lived in New Zealand most of my life. There are many great things about New Zealand such as the food, the scenery, the welfare state, the sport etc .However, there is also the dark side of New Zealand which you have accurately identified. The worst is the high crime rate, and rampant youth crime with little in the way of punishment, many drivers are very aggressive on the road and they will tail gate you trying to make you pull over even though you are going at the right speed limit, lack of opportunity for the creative arts such as Actors and Actresses.
the welfare state is part of the problem and they are trying to keep you in a trap and keep you down, they are part of the problem, nobody wants to help their is no sense of true community, if your differant you will suffer, you will be judged you may even die at the hands of the system trying to get help, its far worse than this light n fluffy video barley scratching the surface of the true hell that lies in the most deceitfully corrupt country on earth
So if NZ has one of the lowest crime rates in the world and you think it's high then what does the say about the rest of the world or more importantly what does that say about the term "crime rate" to begin with?🤔
@@emmajan657 what are you even rambling about?? This has to be the most non-sensical dribble I have read in quite awhile. You are telling me to do my "research" and yet you can't even string together a coherent sentence going off on some tangent about tax, welfare benefits and some garbage about immigration in relation to crime statistics??? Are you actually serious lady??
Tail-gating ... slow down, and slow down, until they either pass or hit you from behind - which is automatically their fault for following too close. Most idiots eventually get the message.
I have been living in NZ for a year now, the country has some amazing scenery. But the horrible cities, damp houses, cost of living, all the crime and gangs, the horrible roads, the polluted rivers and lakes in which you can't swim (and that is like 75% of all the lakes and rivers) is really really really bad. There is nothing pristine about NZ there is so much pollution. On top of that the pay is half of that of what I can earn in the Netherlands. I am deeply deeply deeply disappointed after 12 months in NZ I am going back to the Netherlands.
many parts of nz have great rivers and lakes golden bay etc. but many regions dairy farms and forestry have destroyed them. the cost of living and housing is so bad i tell people its a bad place to live work. you forgot the racism and general bigotry.
Iv been here 20 years, I have a good business and nice home , but Iv had enough, Im heading back home too, I wish you luck on your return to the Netherlands, at least unlike me you didn't waste 20 years here!
Bullying is a terrible problem in New Zealand. Even when I returned on a holiday with my kids, my son was bullied in public playgrounds by kids that have never met him or seen him before! We've traveled together in Asia, Eastern Europe, some countries that are always portrayed as dangerous and criminal (Bosnia, Serbia, Albania etc) and never experienced something like that elsewhere. And yes, tall-poppy syndrome is a huge issue and it's really sad that we still didn't manage to get past it.
New Zealand is horrible. New Zealand is NOT a beautiful country. You could live in down town LA and drive 1 hour to more beautiful scenery. NZ coastline has terrible waves, it is freezing, it's always raining and its cold and grey. New Zealand isn't clean and green either - with exception to Auckland New Zealand is just a series of cow and sheep paddocks in-between impoverished small towns. The waterways are full of silage and everything smells like animal urine and feces. Auckland City is incredibly boring and it's so expensive, imagine paying almost 1 million dollars to live in a ghetto, well that is what south Auckland is like, expensive, crime-ridden and horrible. Socially, New Zealand has big problems too - racism between Maori and NZ European, racism toward Asians and Indians, homophobia, domestic violence, alcohol, child murder, meth, homelessness, a failing health system, poverty..... honestly, if youre looking to move country consider somewhere else, its expensive, dangerous, cold and boring here.
As a Pommegrant at the age of six I was bullied in school. I was a weedy Londoner brought up on rationing, 'nuff sed. But I discovered a natural talent for throwing rocks and worked hard at developing long range, rate of fire, accuracy ... and to Mum's despair, kept what the navy calls "Ready Use" ammo in my pockets. Kiwi kids, well fed and indignant with (huge!) inferiority complexes bullied me, so at any (R) any range and anywhere I'd pepper them with stones (I got the strap a lot at school)(but it was worth it!). With two other Pom kids we formed a small gang and honed our skills; the "Big Tough Kiwis" learned quickly to leave us alone. Flash forward, New Zealand has matured vastly and attitudes have changed. I came back to England to try to make the wifey happy, and she now sees what a huge mistake that was; we shall eventually be going back to NZ where I will burn my UK passport so it cannot happen again.
Going to UK is not (in my mind, anyway) at all a bad idea. Coming to the UK from NZ (homesick Pom wife) was THE bad idea. She realises now, but having burned our bridges we seem to be stuck with being here in the UK. There's a very valid olde saying to the effect that you can never step twice into the same river (Chinese? Japanese? Taoist? Zen?) and it is very very true. There's another oldie too, equally valid "Be VERY careful what you wish for - you might just get it." As for the UK it is indeed a lovely place filled with history, excellent social services (transport, postal, health etc etc) and alert friendly-enough helpful people. But my own heart is in NZ (and I'm a Pom~!). @@Blimzio
_"There are no cats in America"_ - as the old cartoon said. For me it's better to have my kid bullied in school (which i can solve, the similar way you did), than being bullied legaly by the Rozzers. (which i can't do stuff about, since they are well protected, and the system is too strong to sleep nights having a warrant.) I prefer the country, where you can tell the bronze to back off, if they cross the line, - not many of those around the big land.
that's the whole point of this video, so that people can be aware of the hidden things before considering to come here. If I wasn't a born and bred kiwi, there's no way I would have chosen to live here at all.
That's crazy. After crossing Portugal off my list due to extremely low wages and insane living costs, now I might have to consider crossing New Zealand off too (I'll still give it a chance). Not worried about crime though, almost anywhere is better than South Africa. New Zealand is definitely an upgrade to RSA but I'll have to consider other options.
I have met lots of South Africans here in NZ, they always talk about how bad their place is yet they have the audacity to criticise South American countries and label nationalities. South Africa is messed up. New Zealand is alright and liveable but far from Auckland
I am seriously considering a move to NZ, I visited January this year and loved it. I've got family in Tauranga and my current job in england is on the skill shortage list, plenty of jobs for me in hawkes bay by what i've seen online. Is it worth trying or will I be disappointed?
It's not like bullying is a huge problem in every school. I went to school in NZ and wasn't bullied. Never saw any bullying. Depends what you mean by "bullying". Every year there would be a "fight season" where new kids would fight or attack someone, then they'd get expelled and it'd be over for the year. When the next year started, new troublemakers would arrive, fight, and get expelled again. By the end of school I was so removed from the new kids socially I never noticed it.
kennethmacalpin7655..Several years ago, I moved to Auckland with my ten-year-old daughter. Yes, what Farhad says is true... The children at school were caustic and cynical, and they did not accept their new friend through cordiality and companionship.
@@miledana925 Kids can be dicks. I don't think NZ kids are better than other kids. But the point is, are they worse? Is the behavior of children a fair criticism under "dark side of New Zealand"?
Open your eyes...it's in the newspapers where school administrations remove the bullied and keep the bullies. I was involved in education and saw plenty of it!
This is so accurate, and I'm so glad you didn't hold back. When I first saw the title, I thought it would be some light and fluffy click bait title with nothing deep and nothing of substance but this gets to the real hidden truths that so many try to cover up or deny because, 'kiwiana' culture is so sensitive to any negative feedback. I've grown up in NZ my whole life (I'm stuck here due to family reasons) and I wish I could have left this country years ago. There's no real quality of life unless you want to live very very simply or if you have a corporate executive position. Thank you for the honesty and telling it like it is.
Ref my own comment above ... leave NZ? For your own sake please do (as best you can!) your research first. If you want to visit the UK for research first ... DON'T! You'll be living a dream for the visit's duration in a visitor's la-la land. So burn your bridges, get over there live the dream that may well (by comparison) turn into remorse. Trust me, been there, done that, been there again, and now doing that again. I know well of what I speak.
talk to most of the new immigrants ive worked with people from shi Lanka who say at least there they didnt worry about not finding a home, deal with bigotry. I'm a kiwi live overseas nz is a shit culture with sensitive people like you who cant see how shit it has become. @@johnhough7738
To each his own. I just can't agree, I can only re-tell that many 'Poms' go home after a while, and then after another while (!) come back to NZ again. For myself, having been backwards and forwards a couple of times, if I ever get back I'm burning my Brit passport (got both) and staying permanently. Coming to England (Wife's insistence, 'nuff sed) was THE huge mistake ... and now even she realises.
i was bullied by kids 2x my size until i was year 11 so the fact that you mentioned how bad bulliyng is makes me happy but dont get me wrong nz is wonderfull just a few downsides but besides all that its great.
kiwis don't have issues with people achieving great things. look at the pride we have in our athletes during the olympics. it's more the way a person goes about their business than what the business is. kiwis have a sharp nose when it comes to cringiness, so if you're putting yourself out there but it's inauthentic you will get called out for it or mocked. our culture for whatever reason is somewhat immune to obsessions around fame, and i'm actually kind of proud that we generally prefer normalcy, privacy, anonymity
Sadly this is an accurate and honest assessment of NZ, the high youth suicide is the most heart breaking of them all, it is of course related to our high rates of violence within the homes and lack of fathers in the homes. Also our leadership through the education system encourages a high degree of permissiveness that leads to our youth feeling empty and lost. We need Christ in our lives to know how to care, love and nurture our families, our families need strong good fathers to be role models and nurturers for our boys and young men. We need Christian Judeo principles in our institutions and communities if we ever want to genuinely change any of these problems.
@@TheBeliever-vu8wc But New Zealand is still the most horrible country on Earth! Id rather live in Iraq or Syria than Chlamydia infested New Zealand! Or should I say meth infested? Plus not to mention all the woke people!
Agreed! NZ is super expensive to live! Crime rates are on a rapid increase! Properties are totally unaffordable, even if you earn a 'good' wage. Immigration are making it very difficult to obtain residency in NZ, so be careful before investing everuthing you have in moving here...During Covid NZ Immigration did not honor persons stuck abroad with valid Work Permits to return to their jobs and belongings...
Is their challenges , definitely! Is NZ or any other country perfect, No! As a migrant, we go where we feel it would be better for ourselves. I could say a lot about South Africa for example that’s not good but we go where we can see an opportunity..
Jacinda was in charge during Covid 19 . She was frightened and decided to shut the borders . This was the reason why people could not go back to NZ . Homo sapiens worst enemy is fear . Thank God she is out! , Cheers.
except he barley scratched the surface and the fact that were seen as like the least corrupt country on earth wile having so much corruption you cant even talk about and that doesnt get recoded only fuels corruption as deceit is corrupt and were so deceitfully corrupt
My mother said when John Keyes was PM, he destroyed Nz. We left in 1998, and up to then, Mum said Nz was a pretty good country. However, housing was expensive, but you could afford to live a comfy life if you were making a good wage, i.e., in construction. 3 years later, we went back just for a holiday, and mum could not believe what she saw. Homelessness and a drug called P had infiltrated large maori families. I saw my first two homeless maori men sitting outside the casino in Hamilton begging. Mum was shocked and angry. What happened? John Keyes was the PM what did he do to cause this since we had left in 1998.? And let us not forget the gangs. Since Jacinda Aderns Prime ministership, gang crime is out the gate. Nz is fast becoming a drug trafficking country in a large way. What was Jacinda Adern thinking by funding a prominent gang 1M. Ye, i agree! dont go to Nz unless you're super rich and can afford it.
As a kiwi I agree with a lot of this I have been bullied every year till I started college year 9 (High school) It sucked Im 14 now year 9 im no longer bullied thank god

Parents are the worst Bullies and they are our role models. Next you’ve got Teachers, students, brothers, sisters, cousins, Bosses, workmates, partners, and on and on
Ive travelled all over the world intensively and as a kiwi i can say NZ is the best place to live. not bias either, just saying,,,people are open warm friendly, its safe. All cultures know each other and mingle well. mixed races. yeah we have high suicide but there are many factors which this video cant cover. We are have a history with indigenous that we are always working to make better..we are a small melting pot of down to earth people that live in a beautiful paradise. This place has a soul, we are grounded in everything about this place, the sea, the mountains, culture, food, creativity art. growth..If you come here with a pessimistic attitude then you will find the dark side...as kiwis we make the most of it and just get on with it! lifes simple here-no place is perfect..but its a place thats natural and ive always felt free...mayb because we are so far from other countries we have somewhat preserved that.
That's nice, but you're typical of the "see no evil, hear no evil" head in the sand attitude in NZ. The way you call NZ a paradise and "grounded" but then say no where is perfect is typical for people who don't want to open their eyes to the realities. It's a rotten country, full of idealistic beliefs about it and the people. I think the nation's 'leaders' like to push image and everything else under the rug. Image is our biggest trademark.
Billing is part of the NewZealand culture bull in school is just the start. Bullying at work is a huge issue and after 30 years of working iv yet to find a work place with out Bullying.
Yea bro the biggest problem in New Zealand is finding full time work. Most employers only offer 10 hour contracts with the ability to pick up extra shifts.
and politicians there have the nerve to harp on about 'labour shortages' and 'skill shortages'. Now we know those are political buzz words. It's been like that in nz for over 50 years. meaning politicians won't do anything to change it.
I want to try new zealand so much but also worried about it a lot too. It looks so beautiful and the land is far less untouched as it is in the U.S. but worried about crime and things like that
Crime is really not that bad brother there are just certain areas that you got to stay away from, however it is definitely worth travelling here staying here is a bit tough though due to the high cost of living and low wages
I've lived here all my life and still sometimes forget to lock or shut my doors...never had a problem. It depends where you live. Most places outside of the big cities are fine.
If you don't mind my asking, where is 'here'? Spouse and I moved from NZ to Norfolk UK; lovely people here and all mod cons etc ... but I'd move back like a shot. Marital differences intrude if we did go, She wants Auckland, I want Winton, and we both want to stay together (so where's ol' Solomon when ya need him?)
NZ was great 20 years ago. It had so much potential. But the current cost of living is out of this world. I recently paid 5.90 for a regular flatwhite. Crime culture has suddenly exploded. And its super boring unless you like fishing and hiking.
I 100 percent agree. I have lived in New Zealand for 90 percent of my life and honestly cannot wait to leave forever. Everything is so damn expensive, the education system is horrible and the public schools are just awful, theres been a housing crisis for over 20 years with no sign of improvement and theres barely anything fun to do outside home.
You're right about bullying.. it also permeates outside of college. It can be a very clicky place, hard to break into other groups. There is also lots of Bias between North and south Islanders. Its goes deeper than this, and tall poppy syndrome plays a big factor. The legal system is too soft as well, but I'll leave it there for now.. great video!!
Let's not forget about adult bullying at work, accompanied by an insanely high level of incompetence in managerial roles. Speaking of the environment, extremely high level of toxicity of NZ rivers across the country, especially South Island. On top of it, very low quality of the medical care system with worrying level of incompetence.
I lived in New Zealand (Auckland and Tauranga) for roughly 3 years and it's safe to say I didn't really like it at all. I agree with many of your points. People have this weird picture that NZ is a paradise utopia but NZ does a great job at hiding the problems while projecting to the world this "100% Pure" myth. Disclaimer - I left NZ just before Covid so I don't know if some of my points have changed or gotten worse. - Housing quality is horrendous, Kiwis pay astronomical amounts of $$ for glorified shacks with little to no heating that gets damp and mouldy very easily. For a country that knows it's mild, windy and rainy for a lot of the year this is unfathomable. - This is connected to the first point. Quite often people take the easy way out and use band aid solutions for issues that need proper maintenance. When I told my Kiwi coworkers and friends about how cold the houses are a lot of them say "just rug up, use more blankets, wear thick clothing etc." You'd think they'd say build better homes but no. - Public transport is unreliable. Trains to and from Britomart were often extremely late and infrequent. Coverage is also not extensive. - Kiwis while overall friendly I found to be very small minded and take any criticism of their country as a personal attack. - Food in NZ is good, but I missed the sheer variety of ethnic cuisines. There's plenty of Asian food but NZ really lacks in Continental European, Middle Eastern, Latin American and African food. - NZ was a lot more racist than I was expecting, the casual racism towards Asian people in particular was shocking. - I found there to be quite a toxic attitude towards Australia (where I'm now living), almost bordering an obsessive inferiority complex. I'm in Australia now and nobody here seems to say anything bad about NZ or most people don't really care at all. It's very one sided. - New Zealand is not an ideal place if you want to go far in life. Career opportunities are limited. - There is zero in the way of nightlife even in Auckland. It feels like one massive retirement village, whenever I mention this to Kiwis they say it's because they have a small population but similar sized and smaller cities in Asia and Europe have more going on than Auckland. It's dead when the sun goes down. I'm currently in Australia now and it's definitely not perfect but I'm happier here than I was in NZ. I have two coworkers from Brazil and Thailand who like me moved to New Zealand first and didn't like it before moving on to Australia.
i agree regarding high youth suicide rate but you should be careful implying that non university attending persons are not as intelligent as that is not a given.
You are 100% rite everyone who is looking to come to new zealand to better yourself dont bother unless youve got heaps of money. Go on a holiday there its beautiful but id think again about settling it will chew you up and spit you out with a low morale and no savings. First hand experience. Thank you for putting this content out there so people can consider this. You only hear the positives. There are a lot of depressed people and it is almost impossible to find positivity. Working people get absolutely nowhere fast. Great place to settle if your from poverty stricken countries.

Isn’t that anywhere though? I can’t think of a place in the world where it’s just east mode lol. Like you have to work, for instance everyone says Australia is better, but it’s pros and cons, it’s got more dangerous wildlife, the people are far more impolite and cruel, there is crime there, and things are still expensive compared to like the US, basically Australia you are just paid more money, but for the trade off of less support and more racism and discrimination.
When I live in Sydney I left with double the money I arrived. What you were paid accommodated for the living cost and then some. Your more likely to stabbed to death in London then you are to be killed by wildlife in aus especially in urban area. It's the general divide in nz that is massively apparent one for the rich and poor. Two white kiwis and mauri, my partner and I firmly believe its one the most openly racist places we've ever been especially the older generations it's like there obsessed with hating each other they forget there paying 6 dollars for a pepper and the extortionate rates on staple food like dairy and bread when it's coming from there own country. Could you feed a family on $22 wouldn't be much of a life would it

@jamiedavies4545 that's entirely up to you some people prefer Australia 🇦🇺 to New Zealand 🇳🇿 due to better wages and cost of living depends on if you like snakes and wildlife and scenery or a country with what some people call average wages and cost of living and great scenery and no snakes and harmful wildlife. i mean thats not really true, if you had a bad start and tried really hard to see the good and nobody wants anything to do with you because your autistic and a young male, yes younger males nowdays are demonized, something you would have not experienced, also we have no future to roll with, we have to try make our own path as much as possible on our own for the most part, broken body, homelessness as a teen, no father, a mother who wants you to suffer as much as possible while socity affirms shes always right and has never done anything wrong because shes a mother and all mothers are nearly perfect or flawness, if you ever said anything bad about them your the monster, even if you are just trying to speak up against abuse, its okay for a mother to abuse her son/sons, the system agrees, society agrees and your forced to keep your mouth shut, cant find a job you can actually do, buying a home is not an option, finding a roof over your head is nearly impossible, when living on the street is a better option than living at a certain place that has people murdered outside your door on a regular basis so you basically just rot away in your room, doing your best and thats what you get no matter how you tried to make of it, not everybody is as lucky as you
Don't go to America they just put you in jail or prison for years for things like driving offences loitering or not being American. You also have to be rich to get good healthcare in the USA. New Zealand is 100x better than America i am a born and brad kiwi.
Crime has doubled since the pandemic? What's your source on that? It's still better than the UK, USA, France, Sweden, Italy, Australia... You say 'Not many people have jobs'. Unemployment is at 3.4% and was lower than that when this video came out. That's lower than Australia, UK, USA, almost all of Europe and Africa.... As for content creation, if you make good content, then being in New Zealand won't stop you. Else how has McCreamy gotten over 9m subscribers? Bryce Langston's channel has 4.4m subs and he was on Shortland St for crying out loud. Try again mate.
Unemployment figures are cherry picked by politicians, someone with just a few hours of work per week is counted as employed and the 'longterm unemployed' are not counted as they are put into another category requiring 'special help', so all this distorts the real un/employment figures.
I think what he meant is for how small NZ population wise, the crime rate is very high, NZ has the most gang members per capita compared to other countries you can search that up to, NZ well specifically Auckland imo in the last 6-5 years has gone quite dangerous, almost a shooting every second week or month
I would like to ask if anyone can advise me , as a Singaporean, my partner from Philippines wanted to mobe to New Zealand cos he is a nurse. Should I or we consider to move to New Zealand ?
no don't go to Australia . im kiwi we move to oz because its way better. better pay . better food. better culture, nurses are gods here. immigrants are treated with respect and generally love the people and culture and are welcomed. in new Zealand its common for immigrants to be treated badly. hard to make friends .our visa system is nearly like slavery you are tied to one employer and it takes years. visit nz its beautiful but its has major problems. plus go to Melbourne you wont have to miss Singaporean food lots of options .

I'm calling bullsh*t on this. I'm living in NZ with my family for 4 years now (Auckland, Freemans Bay, near the CBD), and I've not seen the chaos, hate, and danger you are selling. First of all, I'd like to see some authoritative sources for your conclusions: Support your arguments with hard data. Show us with actual statistics how bullying is so bad here. Show us with actual stats how crime is so unbearable. Walk the talk. Are you also seriously saying that Kiwi content creators cannot create content in NZ? The internet is global, mate. My experience is, of course, much different than what you describe. For me, it's all positive. But I've lived elsewhere in the world and can compare NZ to other countries. I'd suggest you get some perspective before posting this fearmongering stuff. Anyone watching this, look up the stuff that would most discourage you from coming here and get some actual statistics. Make a data-based decision.

Also I noticed (as a European from the Netherlands) that New Zealand organisations seem very hierarchical. I have a very small sample size to draw from, but it was my personal experience when communicating with a few of them. After having wonderful networking conversations with employees of organisation X, for subsequent steps everything was relayed to bosses, and those bosses to their bosses until it went into oblivion, and you never hear back from them again. In the Netherlands, many organisations have a much more flat structure, where employees decide much more for themselves, which leads to a much greater ease in building relations and collaborations. I can imagine that, as an outsider, you face a hard time building a professional network that actually leads to something in New Zealand. I am curious into hearing the opinion and experiences of others about this.
You are spot on. I lived in NZ for 25 years so I can speak to the culture. When you mentioned the youth suicide rate I said "bullying" and then you addressed it. When you said hard to do content creation I said "tall poppy syndrome" and sure enough you said it. The country IS beautiful but you can't eat the scenery. You have to work so hard to cover your expenses you don't get to enjoy the great things about NZ. And it's not just bullying in schools that is a problem. NZ in general has a "harden up" bullying culture particularly in the workplace. The worst workplace bullying is in nursing, travel and education. The amazing lack of class system that I loved when I first arrived in Auckland in 1990 has long gone. NZ fully entered the rat race when property prices started increasing rapidly and people became very money hungry and greedy. The iconic Auckland I came to in 1990 has long gone.
It breaks my heart to see a bunch of kids who have never left NZ painting the country as if it is horrible and swearing they will move away and be happy. You have an extremely stable country, with a good economy, good social development and one of the best quality of life in the world. Furthermore, public corruption is very low. If you think you're going to find a MUCH BETTER country, I'm sorry to tell you, but you won't. You are better off than 98% of the countries in the world.
i mean thats a copy paste from the system right here, nothing you said is actually proved, just people in high places telling people what to think, NZ is full of sheep, hows the economy being good helping anyone besides the rich for the most part, social development? like introverts being excluded from society, shunned, nobody believes you when you say you had a bad experiance because were so perfect, so many people in NZ lie about suffering and theyr homeless because they chose to attitude right here
@johnhough7738 ...and even if they don't, the supplies will run out eventually, and there will be war on the streets, comparing to which, we'll be better off taking the blast. NZ has gone far away from being autonomus, it can't survive without the rest of the trade world. (and i don't gloat about it, it saddens me)
I am baffled about one thing. Statistically speaking New Zealand is supposed to have the 2nd lowest crime rate in the world. Is this a lie? How come so many people are talking about high crime rates there?
@@griffinpeters38 exactly. Just some Ramraids that happened in one year makes the whole country go crazy. Like rn it’s completely fine, I don’t think I’ve heard of ramraids for a while.
Mostly in high cities. Just like wellington, Christchurch specially in Auckland, thats why some of citizens here in NZ are, moving into a town because its more peaceful and a quite place
I was only 8 years old when our family left New Zealand in 1967, but before we left, in primary school I'll never forget my very pretty teacher when we were all sat down on the mat and she was sat on a chair explaining something to us and asking us questions etc. Anyway she caught me peering up her dress, Oh Oh, and you should have heard her perform. In that high class English accent she comes straight out and says "Bruce are you looking up my dress?"..."Stand out here in front of the class" and she says "While all the other kids are busy listening and paying attention to my teachings, you're busy being a very discusting little boy peering up my dress trying to see my knickers"..I still recall all the other kids snickering & giggling or gasping and chocking trying not to laugh..Was I embarrassed or what, I never heard the end of it from the other kids for the next two or so weeks. She was hot.
It was good to hear some info about NZ from the other point of view rather than just beautiful and la la la stuff, still interested in NZ and still wanna visit study, and give it a shot. thanks for sharing it!
Go visit, stay away from Auckland though. The real NZ still exists in towns and villages, especially in the South Island. My personal choice will be Invercargill, which many find as "dull as dishwater!" It's all about personal tastes, and what we are accustomed to. Take beer, for example. On my first adult visit to UK my first taste of Brit beer was "...flat, weak, warm and watery!" and on return after years away my first taste of kiwi beer was "... a mouthful of mildly alcoholic fizz!" As for 'visit' ... what can you learn about life ... anywhere ... by a visit?
I try hard to not recommend these days, and the famous "pace of change" is indeed working in NZ. In Kiwiland if you haven't been somewhere in just a few years the change is often such that (simply) you haven't been there at all. Other places seem stuck in the 18 & 19 hundreds ... Recommend? What do you actually want from life? Whatever, but be warned: while much the same, it IS different~!@@Blimzio
@@johnhough7738 What are you on about bro? Auckland is completely fine to visit. I've lived in numerous towns/cities across NZ for work and people who don't live or have never been to Auckland consistentlly shit on Auckland for no reason. Auckland definitely embraces a lot of kiwi culture as well as integrating that with numerous other cultures globally. It's got a great night life and extremely diverse. If you're studying in NZ, highly recommend Auckland.
@@rusiru161 I spent my early childhood in Waiouru, moved to Auckland and was raised/educated there. Spouse and I currently in UK and intending to go home in another year or so. I've been doing a lot of research on NZ because I'm considering migrating there and pretty much everything you've said seems to be very accurate based on what I've seen myself, great video bro keep up the good work.
@fieldspring5329 idk, been doing my research as well and I must agree. NZ ranks in top 10 or "Best" in most of the ranking, but after doing extensive research it seems to me it's mostly because kiwis don't really care that much about stuff that is not good there, so they rate their QoL high... also a lot of "advantages" I have seen about NZ QoL is from the American POV (free health care - mostly, work/ life balance, fairly low crime rate), but from my European POV it's all standard and expected stuff. I have an offer on the table to move there for 2 years with a very well paying job (120K NZD / year) which I will probably decline, because it's just not worth to go 30-40 maybe even more years backwards and at the same time 18K miles away from home. I mean houses without central heating that cost crazy money, since it's an island everything is much more expansive, yet the wages do not reflect it either, now even the crime rate is going up over there, getting a tech is a problem, weather is crazy.
Came from a video where a Californian (im assuning shes from California) listed things like "no cruise control on cars" in a list of negatives to this video stating FACTS Well said mate.
As a South African with a Good profession (health care ) we have been actively approached by NZ recruitment agencies to come over. And I'm pretty sure it's more safe than south africa. Theft isn't as major as it is here. Here we deal with murder rate.. so I'm definitely thinking of emigrating . So I'm taking this with a pinch of salt. I'm pretty sure it's better than south africa.
I agree. An expat who lives in Melbourne Australia. Forever!! Do not move to NZ on a long term basis. As a visit, yeah. But to live there permanently? Definitely NO! Cost of living there is far too expensive! Worse than Aussie. Move across the ditch!
I'll take living in suburbs next to a drug lab, rather than living in a cozy yard, next to recycle-crazy vegan, telling me "it's illegal to have my ABS turned off".
It is interesting to me that race is not mentioned in this. NZ is a pretty race obsessed country and race and race relations are endlessly discussed in the media and permeates through many facets of NZ life now such as housing, education and healthcare, and even to the extent of separate race-based seats in the parliament and local councils. However it is an extremely 'sensitive' subject in NZ so understandably the author may not have wanted to bring it up.
Thx for sharing the info with us, I am leaving China for NZ due to its education system which deteriorates in my country, but your video freaks me really, I wonder is it the whole picture in NZ or just a corner of it?
Lived in Christchurch for a little while; never felt uncomfortable at all, got bullied/harassed, or even considered crime. Everyone looks you in the eye when they talk to you, says thanks (cheers), etc; police turn off the sirens and just leave the lights on late at night driving through the streets, everyone’s in bed by like 10:00p, list goes on and on. You have a narrow view because you’ve lived there your whole life; you want to see real crime? I’m from NY. THAT is where the crime rate is high and you need to double check your pockets every 20 minutes and some dipshit is trying to sell you a sob story or a miracle cure every 5 minutes. Literally. This is not an accurate video.
Are you still living in New Zealand? 10 years ago, I'd probably say yes. But it's completely different now. You feel less safe every day. Crime almost happens every day too. And No one can do anything about it.
Unfortunately, NZ has changed in the past years to the worse that I have ever recalled living in NZ for 40 years. Don't feel as safe any more. Blatant crimes have gone thru the roof, especially youth crimes. The country as a whole has gone downhill in many different fronts. It is almost a defeatist attitude where we should be happy that we are not as bad as other countries??? Why should we even accept it in the first place. Just think about it. Does it not seem crazy that we should be so please with ourselves that we are the best of the bad. Have we not always say when terrible things happen especially in the USA, we would say thank goodness it doesn't happen here - then within years, it happen here!
All the information explains AUCKLAND precisely, move away from there and you find safety and friendliness is prevalent, why do you think people call Aucklanders "JAFA's" - Just Another F'ing Aucklander. St Stephens Boarding School (Te Poho O Tipene) got closed down in the 90's because of bullying, I experienced it numerous times daily when I was there.
Bullshit, there are filthy Māori everywhere, gangs everywhere, P everywhere……. That’s why there’s so much White Flight’ off to Queenstown, Wanaka, Twizel, Alexandra, Cromwell, Central Otago, Australia.

@@alvinaliathos6137 But in comparison? I know that large/overcrowded cities have a higher crime rate, but I never said that Auckland was the ONLY city in NZ, just that it has the higher rate than anywhere else in NZ, move out to the smaller populated cities and the stress level decreases. From my own experience, Aucklanders have a different mentality than anyone from anywhere else in NZ, 2 yrs at St Stephens taught me that much at least . . . . multiple times a day, every day.
I totally agree! New Zealand and all it's beauty is all fine and dandy but it becomes a moot point when you can ill afford to travel it's vast and varied countryside let alone just exist. The governments or local councils have just become self preserving and bleed off it's residents rather than serve. The country is in dire financial strife and it's becoming increasingly difficult for police to exercise law and order. The government has only been opting for increased numbers of wealthy migration which will alienate the average New Zealander. It's rapidly becoming more and more of a wealthy person's retirement village on a grand scale. Tourism in my opinion will never reach the grand heights we had formerly and with the global energy crisis and New Zealand's geographic tyranny it'll only exacerbate the escalation of inflation and unaffordable life style for ordinary people. Younger generations have been dependant on the bank of Mum and Dad for many years now it's it's really manifested in the number of homeless people. There's a concerning growing dichotomy between the two. Ourselves like many other parents of our age (60+) are frequently travelling abroad to visit our children and grandchildren at an ever increasing cost too. It'll be a rocky road for many years. I can understand why mainstream media avoid the facts as it would be alarmist hence them avoiding these serious issues.
Being a kiwi I found moving to Canada with my family an adventure at the age of 15 till I went to school. I wished that we had never moved here. I hated school here because of the indifference that I found for someone from another country & because of how far behind they were in the school curriculum. Bullying was on a different level here & I would have gladly gone back. I've had people refer to NZ as a third world country & not a place to even consider going to because of misguided judgement especially since they had never been anywhere in the south pacific or literally out of their own borders. I found attitudes like this to be so prevalent throughout the US when I lived there. So many didn't believe that there was anything beyond Australia other than the Antarctic & that I was lying about where I was born & raised.
Bro the NZ school curriculum is literally behind af. Try apply for uni with you NCEA level result, barely can get in to any place, better luck if you study in Auckland , imagine studying in rural area. you are literally limited because of lack of support for everything.
I'm sorry to hear about all those problems. I also think it has something to do with the weather, gloomy weather just like in the UK. Always heard about the depression adding to the problems. Sounds like the country needs more entrepreneurs and new government. New or stricter laws to protect people. I'm South African from Rhodesia and have seen all sorts of problems growing up and came really close to moving to NZ. I hope NZ and SA can get the balancing right going forward. We have so much to offer, don't we. I'll add your country to my prayer list now. Amein.
Hi. Does living in a smaller city help with the cost of living and safety? I don’t mind small places (in fact, I hate big cities). Then again, I’m always concerned about job opportunities, and affordability. I’m also really concerned about age limit. Does age matter when it comes to finding jobs in New Zealand? I’ll really appreciate any information that you can give me. Thanks for this video. Subscribed.
I am planning to move there , I do have a solo motorcycle trip , in 1 week , if the feeling is good , I'll voe there. See what happens! I do have highhhhhh expectations!
It is like a problem everywhere these days. I kind of what to know what the statistics are like to compare to say UK or Aus. Thinking about moving there because seems like the last place where war will be effected
Great video, well done for putting it out there. I left NZ last year and you would have to put a gun to my head to make me go back The problem with NZ is the naivity, kiwi's live very sheltered lives . Those Kiwi's with real talent and ambition are all overseas and those that are left are either leeching of the state or living off their parents, hanging around for the inheritance. Sadly NZ's answer to most problems is to stick both fingers in their ears and saying 'La La La La' very loudly
There's 5 million people in NZ and you think everyone is "leeching of the state or living off their parents". So no one works in NZ? That's surprising, a 100% unemployment rate.

Crime varies with distance to Auckland - about 70% of it happens there. Local culture is more self-effacing than the US - so unsubtle self-promotion may be met by harsh criticism. Housing is a big problem - it ain't cheap.
I am surprised to hear that there is crime in New Zealand. I have met a few people who holidayed in New Zealand and they gave me the impression that there was no crime in NZ. Thats disappointing to hear.
My cousins moved there and I’m twelve and my cousins are two and 5 and I miss them and they were mt friend and now I want to die, I’m British but they are in New Zealand and I want everything to go bad so they have to go home as I miss them. I want to die now, it’s really hard to stay alive and feel happy
Great video.
Good point re management. I came here in 2017 and worked for a big appliance company here. I ended up taking them to arbitration as their management was beyond incompetent. One in particular had been with the company all his life, he was insular, ignorant and insecure. So many of these companies have these fools. I am over 40 and I cannot find work here now since that experience as they all get together and spread poison about you in the work place. NZ is also beyond ageist. NZ is a toxic work environment I m glad now to be leaving.
NZ is a boring, dull dump. I did a 2 month fly drive about 12 years ago. Its full of humorless people, that seem pissed off all the time, There's nothing to do, not even a right to roam the countryside, everything is so expensive. It's backwards and boring.

Thanks for making this. I am a boran and raised NZer that has lived and traveled all of NZ and most of the world. New Zealand sucks. It is becoming South Africa's little brother. You're delusional if you think NZ is becoming like SA. It's far from it mate. If you have travelled that many countries and you're that dense then I feel sorry for you.
No one gets attacked for saying hello to a stranger lmao. Most of the violet crime is literally gang on gang violence or are you purposely omitting that information because you'd rather lie??
Lol you should leave NZ and travel more dude, then you’ll know what hard life and crime is. Perhaps if you focus on more positive side of things and you’ll receive it too in life. Cheers.
You are right. I was in the USA and it is severe there. Sure Upstate New York and Connecticut are lovely. But the Midwest and the South are a mess. There is so much crime and homelessness. And 'youth' depression may bad in NZ but I guarantee American adults are a lot less happy than kiwi adults at this moment in time. And then I am sure that it is even worse in poorer countries.
everything he said about NZ is true. Especially, the worst drivers in the world are from nz. Crime rate is too high considering the population. Rascism is too much. Also envy from locals towards immigrants for securing jobs and living a better life.

What the host said is true. New Zealand have very high house breaking rate. The cost of living is extremely high . House and rent are very expensive and unaffordable. Unless you are very rich or have high paying job, life can be difficult for you. Jobs are also hard to find and wages not high either. The only thing is New Zealand is a very beautiful country with beautiful scenery. Visiting NZ on vacation is nice and enjoyable. Settling down is a completely different story. As the host is saying
As a kiwi agree..we live in beautiful country, but society is broken. Dating and relationships often dont work out well. Women encouraged to be strong and indep feminists rather than feminine Too much alcohol fuelled idiocy Crazy drivers Crap roads Definately tall poppy syndrome..where youre bullied if you dont comply to the norm. And bullying doesnylt stop at school, its permeated into workplace culture
At my school I won’t discuss the names in this but this year 10 girl was bullied so badly that she un@lived herself. And what’s more horrible was she was bullied by kids from our own school… if you ever think about committing don’t do it. It’s not worth it. You are loved. No matter home much u think u are. Also drug and alcohol problems! Female promiscuity is a big problem! Std problems! Single parent households is big problem! Greedy landlords is big problem! Rivers being fucked up from dairy farms is big problem! Lots more than 5 problems mate!
Japan ... probably lingering inheritance from a very feudal culture.
Another reason might (just) be-

There's another oldie too, equally valid "Be VERY careful what you wish for - you might just get it."
As for the UK it is indeed a lovely place filled with history, excellent social services (transport, postal, health etc etc) and alert friendly-enough helpful people. But my own heart is in NZ (and I'm a Pom~!).

By the end of school I was so removed from the new kids socially I never noticed it.

kiwis don't have issues with people achieving great things. look at the pride we have in our athletes during the olympics. it's more the way a person goes about their business than what the business is. kiwis have a sharp nose when it comes to cringiness, so if you're putting yourself out there but it's inauthentic you will get called out for it or mocked. our culture for whatever reason is somewhat immune to obsessions around fame, and i'm actually kind of proud that we generally prefer normalcy, privacy, anonymity

Jacinda was in charge during Covid 19 . She was frightened and decided to shut the borders . This was the reason why people could not go back to NZ . Homo sapiens worst enemy is fear . Thank God she is out! , Cheers.

As a kiwi I agree with a lot of this

Well said indeed. And spot on!
More like isolated
That's nice, but you're typical of the "see no evil, hear no evil" head in the sand attitude in NZ. The way you call NZ a paradise and "grounded" but then say no where is perfect is typical for people who don't want to open their eyes to the realities. It's a rotten country, full of idealistic beliefs about it and the people. I think the nation's 'leaders' like to push image and everything else under the rug. Image is our biggest trademark.
So why suicide rates high?
Then you woke up😂😂😂😂
Billing is part of the NewZealand culture bull in school is just the start.
Great video! Please keep making content and giving an honest view of your country. This was really good x
The south island is safer. Do not go to Auckland

NZ was great 20 years ago. It had so much potential. But the current cost of living is out of this world. I recently paid 5.90 for a regular flatwhite. Crime culture has suddenly exploded. And its super boring unless you like fishing and hiking.
The last good year to live in NZ was 1979
Yes now they keep cramming more people into the country and packing us in like sardines 🤬

Bullying is everywhere
Dwelt in both for lengthy periods, my personal preference was/is to live in the South Island.
@GimlinPatter true, and it's compounded if you're getting abused at home too
I was bullied very badly as a kid

Your mistake was living in Auckland and Tauranga. You would have liked Wellington, Christchurch maybe, or plenty of other places around the country.

When I live in Sydney I left with double the money I arrived. What you were paid accommodated for the living cost and then some. Your more likely to stabbed to death in London then you are to be killed by wildlife in aus especially in urban area. It's the general divide in nz that is massively apparent one for the rich and poor. Two white kiwis and mauri, my partner and I firmly believe its one the most openly racist places we've ever been especially the older generations it's like there obsessed with hating each other they forget there paying 6 dollars for a pepper and the extortionate rates on staple food like dairy and bread when it's coming from there own country. bad hours and how we measure unemployed .

So you have hormones, and not afraid to admit it? - I think the others kids were just better at it than you.

Go visit, stay away from Auckland though. The real NZ still exists in towns and villages, especially in the South Island. My personal choice will be Invercargill, which many find as "dull as dishwater!"
It's all about personal tastes, and what we are accustomed to. Take beer, for example. On my first adult visit to UK my first taste of Brit beer was "...flat, weak, warm and watery!" and on return after years away my first taste of kiwi beer was "... a mouthful of mildly alcoholic fizz!"
As for 'visit' ... what can you learn about life ... anywhere ... by a visit?

I agree. An expat who lives in Melbourne Australia. Forever!! Do not move to NZ on a long term basis. As a visit, yeah. But to live there permanently? Definitely NO! Cost of living there is far too expensive! Worse than Aussie. Move across the ditch!
It ain't that good in Oz anymore
Blame their lefty government!
It's just left wingers. Right wingers don't give a damn about race.
Thx for sharing the info with us, I am leaving China for NZ due to its education system which deteriorates in my country, but your video freaks me really, I wonder is it the whole picture in NZ or just a corner of it?
NZ is fine, this video is overly dramatic.
It's very accurate. Born here
Double space between your paras? As a viewer, that's rather annoying.
For myself, living now in Norfolk (UK) and wishing we'd NEVER left NZ.
I lived in New York. I am now living in New Zealand. I felt so much safer in New York.
Most of what you said is also happening here in the Philippines.
That’s why there’s so much White Flight’ off to Queenstown, Wanaka, Twizel, Alexandra, Cromwell, Central Otago, Australia.
dont hate o aucklanders..the rest of NZ is so close minded so il just say jealous. get a hobbie if you want to generalise a small group of people/a city that funds the rest of the country full of bigots
@@alvinaliathos6137 Sadly yeah, but if you compare the cities, then Auckland is worse than any other city in NZ.
From my own experience, Aucklanders have a different mentality than anyone from anywhere else in NZ, 2 yrs at St Stephens taught me that much at least . . . . multiple times a day, every day.
never even really left the south island, ive been through true hell most my life
So you're saying it's like the South Africa of Down Under?
Australia and new Zealand are high. it could be social media. But where is there no crime. I am leaving Canada that is far worse
@@jamespoon5690 Yeah, it sucks
Wow.. from what you say, it sounds like New Zealand is not a good place to live in. Why don't you move to Pakistan? I'll go to NZ in Ur place.
Racist much
A lot of countries don’t report on suicides so it’s not a accurate representation
Dude lowkey trying to stop immigration because its too beautiful of a nation to share
Your video cleared lot of misconceptions about New Zealand thanks a lot
Go to the South island, low crime and good people.
There's hardly a population down there...
@shanmuganathanmirusuvil1190 yes
Where is highest youth crime area in NZ? Auckland?
I’d say chch
It is like a problem everywhere these days. I kind of what to know what the statistics are like to compare to say UK or Aus. Thinking about moving there because seems like the last place where war will be effected
After working for 2-10 years you’ll be making alright wage and there’s also many more options for income streams
Great video, well done for putting it out there. I left NZ last year and you would have to put a gun to my head to make me go back
The problem with NZ is the naivity, kiwi's live very sheltered lives . Those Kiwi's with real talent and ambition are all overseas and those that are left are either leeching of the state or living off their parents, hanging around for the inheritance. Sadly NZ's answer to most problems is to stick both fingers in their ears and saying 'La La La La' very loudly
Kiwis have a hard time with direct criticism for sure
There's 5 million people in NZ and you think everyone is "leeching of the state or living off their parents". So no one works in NZ? That's surprising, a 100% unemployment rate.
La la la la la ... (has he gone yet?) Oooops ... La la la la la
@@johnhough7738 And that's the immaturity right there. Irony.
Ya goddit in one, Babe. ("Babe"? It's easier than putting 'Sir, Madame, or Thing" for everyone who lacks the bollards to write under their own name.)@@Timeforcommonsense
Thats disappointing to hear.
every country has crime, how are you surprised with this?
my guy, crime is everywhere in the world.
NZ has medical care on par with the US and UK. The pollution in NZ is also much lower than most places
turn the lights on
NZ is a boring, dull dump. I did a 2 month fly drive about 12 years ago. Its full of humorless people, that seem pissed off all the time, There's nothing to do, not even a right to roam the countryside, everything is so expensive. It's backwards and boring.
As a guy who was born in New Zealand I can confirm that yes bullying is common in NZ.
I'm really am terrified to move there ,I am a Black girl and I know that the popular of my race there is quiet scarce ,im scared for my school experience
NZ is multi ethnic/cultural, racism is rare you'll be fine. This guy is fear mongering.
There's no racism here
Thanks for making this. I am a boran and raised NZer that has lived and traveled all of NZ and most of the world.
New Zealand sucks. It is becoming South Africa's little brother.
You can be attacked simply by saying hello to a stranger. I despise what my country has become.
Our citizens lie because they are desperate.
Thank you for your honest review 👍🏻
Maybe you should move from there then?
Thanks for your honest sharing about what you experienced in your day to day life.
My pleasure!
Don't give wrong information if you base on hearsay. I've been in new zealand for 9yrs so far never heard or experience what you say. 😮
New Zealand and Australia both no go's. Draconian and dystopian Petri dishes for one world despots.
@@TheBeliever-vu8wc no offence but have you been to South East Asia? Especially Indonesia, Malaysia & India?
@@catherinejosephinesmith8096 i have been to india for a short tour back in 2004, it was an ok trip. Been to malaysia in 2011, it is an awesome country with awesome people and sumptuous food. Never been to indonesia yet, but got some lovely friends from there. All 3 of these countries have friendly people, not rascist and hateful like the people of NZ. Dont get me wrong. NZ is an amazing country with so much to do outdoors, beautiful sceneries, clean and green. But i am totally disappointed with the locals as they are the most unfriendly people with a few exceptions ofcourse. Thank you.
@@TheBeliever-vu8wc Aww thank you, I'm Malaysian and my husband is a Kiwi actually. Malaysian are nice and friendly people but when you decided to stay here for too long while working here...., then you will start to see the racist part and the people here drive like mad man too hahaha (myself included NOT the racist part tho) 🙂. But I won't dare to drive in Bali nor India bcoz that just too much crazzzzier than driving in Malaysia lol
I guess every country have their bits eh. We will be moving to NZ mid of next year once I get my NZ PR. And my in-laws are all over NZ so hopefully I won't be getting racist treatment there, fingers cross.
100% True !!! Everything you said !!

As the host is saying
compare it to your middle eastern country pick which one is better
As a kiwi agree..we live in beautiful country, but society is broken.
Dating and relationships often dont work out well. Women encouraged to be strong and indep feminists rather than feminine
Too much alcohol fuelled idiocy
Crazy drivers
Crap roads
Definately tall poppy syndrome..where youre bullied if you dont comply to the norm.
If people don’t like you. I like you. Don’t do it.
This is why that even though I’m 14, I’m planning to move out of the country after university.
Do you really think other countries have it better?
