Well, Sanita is her last name. I took it that the lighter was hers and MacRedd took it from her as a trophy when he got away from Sanita when she tried to take him down or arrest him. You can ask MacRedd to just give you the lighter and he says something like 'it was a memento from a 'carnal understanding' with Sanita. You can ask Sanita about their carnal understanding and she implies it had to do with their scuffle, not implying anything to be sexual between her and MacRedd. I think he just saw her as a worthy opponent and wanted a keepsake from meeting her. Maybe MacRedd, being the crazy SOB he is, has a weird crush on Sanita. He admires her combat skills most of all. Who knows, maybe she reciprocates but has to do her job because he is a threat to Groundbreaker. Except I don't think he's a threat to Groundbreaker on the whole- like you said his crimes weren't serious and while he is doing psychotropic mushrooms if he doesn't wander out of the Back Bays he's not all that dangerous. Hell, you can talk to him and if you bring Felix with you MacRedd recognizes him and they stay civil. The engineer Junlei sent before you is even fine, you can talk to her and send her back topside and MacRedd and his crew let her go.
Agreed. Macredd seems very chill, apart from the reports of his outburst and him wanting us dead when you trespass. He probably wants more smoking buddies too haha. That plus the outcasts who get stuck in Groundbreaker have no one to come for aid than to join Macredd's crew or starve. Feels like there could have been more options and even cut content?
The answer is always KILL cuz they have loot. :3 But yeah, played the game this week, Macredd speech check later, he seems chill. Shame there seems to be no other way they can be involved in factions. It feels like this game cut a lot of content or too simple vs Obsidian's complex ideas in Fallout NV

I think the lighter is her possesion and he robbed it for himself,it has gold on it and its carved with a groundbreaker carving

In my current playthrough i sided with him, bribed & got his lighter then killed him. The amount of choice in this game is nuts.
