That food you don’t know is okra (scientific name: Abelmoschus esculentus), which is a cultivated plant improved by humans through selective breeding. It is native to the area from western Africa to Ethiopia and is now widely planted in tropical, subtropical and warm temperate regions around the world. Okra's 4 major functions and benefits: 1. High calcium content can prevent osteoporosis 2. Vitamin A helps protect eyes 3. High dietary fiber can lower blood sugar and blood lipids 4. Helps digestion. Thanks a lot for sharing, super great job! 👍😄👏
Nasi Ganja literally means Cannabis Rice. But at 1:33 you can see the police entering the shop. I have eaten in this restaurant since I was a kid back in the late 1970s
Hey Tim, I'm from Ipoh and I can tell you the reason it's called Nasi Ganja because it's like drugs, once you tried it; you're hooked and it's quite addictive. Seeing you having it made me crave to have it now. I just might have to drive back there from KL just to have it. 🤣🤣
@@tongferlion Goodluck bro. I got stuck for about 2 hours in bad traffic coming back to KL from Ipoh but having a great plate of "Nasi Ganja" made the hassle worth while. 🤣😅
Ganja is a type of "weed" marijuana which is addictive so they take that name sake to mean an addictive nasi dish. The Indian man is probably a migrant Indian or Bangladashi worker. If it were any local Indian or Chinese, Malay, they would have been able to answer your question. Barley is actually an ancient grain but very popular in Asian countries. We normally use it in our desserts and drinks. Its good to drink to cool down your body.
Hi Tim, if you are heading up North. Please consider dropping by TAIPING. Its an old sleepy town with lots of history. You will enjoy the Lake Garden where you can walk around the lake. Lots of nature and by the way, prepare either an umbrella or rain coat because TAIPING is the wettest place IN Malaysia. Cheers and safe travels.
Hi there Tim I admire all you bloggers who visit different countries with content that’s out there that true and authentic, I have been to Malaysia Know nassi lemak but nasi ganja that’s hilarious 😅😅😅😅😅
basically the nasi ganja is sitting as a hawker inside the chinese coffee shop yong suan (a classic kopitiam), and having the nasi ganja with cham C coffee is an evergreen combo when visiting ipoh. during weekends and holidays, the place will be packed and lining up until 4 to 5 neighbouring shops. parking is also a nightmare over there but to true fans, they dont mind. sometimes even after u wash your hands, your hands will smell of spices and make you hungry and even want to come back again. it is also a unique nasi kandar because they put spicy coconut chutney with the rice which is very very rare for a nasi kandar in malaysia
Hello Tim, most of the workers here are from India not local so they donts understand the history. Nasi Ganja translate Additive rice because to local its so delicious it got an additive effect. . Its very similar to Nasi Kandar.

Ipoh is also known as retirement city, retired people like to stay there. That Columbia hat is what? Country Colombia, Columbia University, Columbia Missouri, etc?
Hi Mr.Tm... The green color is vegetable called Okra..the egg is not normal eggs, it dipped in salted water for few days after that they take out and boiled it..that’s why the colour and the taste is different from normal eggs 🥚 Good try ya👍
That is okra vege or local call lady fingers. If that egg is salty, mean the marinated salthy duck egg which is popular to enjoy with ur mix dishes rice meal.
Nasi Ganja is essentially a simpler version of Nasi Kandar, offering a limited but delicious selection of dishes. The usual lineup includes crispy fried chicken, sautéed cabbage, okra, a boiled or salted egg, and, of course, a generous dousing of rich curry gravy. The dish earned its catchy name not from any illegal substance, but from its “addictive” taste-an irresistible marketing hook. However, urban legends swirl around some establishments, suggesting that secret ingredients like actual ganja (cannabis) were once used to keep customers coming back for more.
If malaysian indian they can speak englis but those from india ganja mean marijuana leaf because can be addicted so people keep coming back due to addicted nasi ganja.
The reason why WE(malays) called it nasi ganja because we used to put ganja in the rice as my grandma said.. back then ganja was like herbs but when british came they make it illegal drugs .. so we put another herbs to the rice .
Do pay the Ipoh Thong Sui Kai or Dessert Street a visit during dinner time. You'll be spoilt for choice. Try the Wan Tan Noodles and Beef Noodles there. Enjoy!😊
