This is terrific! I lived in Philadelphia back then, and I fondly remember watching all these freakin reruns on WGBS 57. I really miss the warm localized voice overs for all the shows, and ads! Then there's my absolute favorite show I watched as a kid The Bionic 6! No wonder I'm in school for television now. I live for this stuff. Thanks!
This takes me back! When WGBS Philly 57 came on the scene, I would watch this channel a lot! And I saw most of these promos and shows growing up! Thanks for the memories!
I remember when we had the Philly indies on cable in North Jersey. We had all but this one, we had WKBS before it went dark, WTAF, and WPHL. WGBS was in the Asbury Park Press TV listings, and my parents wrote to TKR several times asking them to add this station. Never happened. Ocean County still has it.
They seemed to have alot of shows that used to be on the old WKBS. Despite the different channel number, 57 is the true successor to the old 48, in my opinion.
Ah, the 80s! Back when 57 used to be an independent station, same as 17, 29, and 48. Great stations with great programming. Look at what "progress" does for us... Nowadays we can get 300+ channels with nothing worthwhile watching on any of them.
Had WKBS not gone dark, it too probably would've went in the same direction the others did. Might have changed the landscape for indies, I could see Fox approaching them and offering the affiliation if they had still been around in 1986.
@@johnissoevil If WKBS was still around it would most likely been CW 48. However, if Metromedia bought WKBS from Field, Fox definitely would've chosen 48 for their affiliate.
Dennis, le tartarughe ninja, la famiglia bionica, Charles, Dinosaucers, Teddy Ruxpin, i puffi, anche "Saben rider" mezzo taroccato (pure qua in Italia mi pare) se non erro... wow!

Great memories. It was almost as if Grant was giving WKBS 48 back to us on a new frequency.
My childhood in South Jersey! Love this!!!!
Thanks for uploading this. WGBS was the true successor to WKBS 48, IMO.
Oh this brought back memories as an 8th grader living in princeton nj in 1986
I worked at Channel 57 and I knew the guy who did the voice overs, funny dude! I worked on the show Profiles with Toni Nash.
Man, this took me WAYYYY back, LOL

TMNT debuted here in Philly,on Sept 25,1989,the still new series already was shown on ch.11 wpix-tv new york, months before TMNT ch.57 premiere.
I grew up watching Philly 57! I remember that "world television premiere" of Godzilla 1985

Right On
Philly 57 was the best thing around while it lasted. Like all good things it came to an end way too soon.
It still does exist, but now as a watered down CW O&O sister station to KYW-TV.
talk about a blast from the past!

How awesome was that trip down memory lane, eh?
Ah, the days when local stations aired programing worth my time instead of the 'talk show' garbage they air nowadays!
Cool, I live in Philadelphia.
