I love that weird feeling you get when what you're seeing connects with some vague memory in the back of your brain! Lived in this city for 30+ years. I love seeing this! Thanks for posting this!

This is actually 1987, as "The Monkees" aired on 29 at 5PM in the summer of 1986.

It looks like this is a compilation from 1986 and 1987. I remember WTAF-29 became WTXF in the fall of 1986 when it joined the new FOX network. The same thing happened when WNEW channel 5 joined FOX and became WNYW.

I thought I remember that 29 had become fox around that time. Thanks for confirming.

I remember these! Cartoon carnival used to come aroun 5:40/5:50am during the week, and community update used to come on right before it. Man, you just took me back to my childhood in the mid 80s

I just looked it up on google. The Adventures of Beans Baxter was a TV series that ran from 1987 to 1988. So these commercials are the summer of 1987. I was 16 living in suburban Philly (Chester County). Great year...I just got my drivers license. I remember all of these commercials and cartoon carnival. I would still watch bugs bunny even at that age because I thought was still funny, they always did throw in some inside adult jokes.

@stevations I think RolloSmokes came to that conclusion because of the Beans Baxter Fox promo near the end, which obviously dates to Fox's earliest months in 1987. Also, copyrights on commercials aren't exactly the best metric for dating - I've had 1988 tapes with 1984-produced ads.
Despite that, I think it is a mix of both - some ads from 1986, some from summer 87.
Still love DeBella as the face of 29's kid block...

I thought the animator was cool until I finally had one. At 8 years old I didn't have enough patience to animate those images. It took hours to draw them pixel by pixel!

Weird Philly broadcasting question. I have a Beta tape recorded in roughly 1984 that I’m trying to identify.
Program 1 is Casablanca, aired on WTAF as part of a Bogey marathon, hosted by John Harvey of WIOQ, and part of a VCR giveaway presumably by WTAF.
Program 2 is The Big Sleep, also hosted by John Harvey, as part of the same marathon on WTAF later in the week.
Program 3 is The Golden Age Of Television: The Milton Berle Show, aired on WTAF on an unknown date.
If anyone can help identify the exact dates for these programs it would be greatly appreciated! :)

WTAF 29 is where I first saw the Shaw Brothers classic "Five Deadly Venoms" somewhere around 1981 or 2. And then there was Black Belt Theatre, occasionally hosted by Jay T. Will. AND, around 1983 or so is when they showed bruce Lee's films on TV for the very first time, if I remember.
And then they had the 3 Stooges on Saturday, and in the 80's they had the Stooges show that opened up with "The Curly Shuffle." Great days, man!

2 problems with the "Zap It"
    - People will be far more pissed than what you see in the commercial
    - They look like real firearms. Take off the stickers, and that is exactly what they look like. I wonder how many kids got shot by the police because of this? (with or without the stickers)

Why do you say that? It is possible it could be from both years. The promo for June 16th for the new show schedule led me to think it was 1986 since that was a monday. Also the commercial after the Davy Crocket promo has 1986 at the bottom of the screen.

Sad, but these days, you CAN'T have non E/I programming on broadcast television, and there's no commericals for children, fast food or other wise. It's been pushed back to cable.
