  • Do We Interview False Teachers? Why Remnant Radio Interviews Controversial Leaders!
We are often asked, “why do you interview all these false teachers”. Questions, or rather, accusations like these are often lobbed at us because of the false binary pushed by many heretic hunting ministries. Either you are perfectly orthodox or you are a rank heretic. These binaries are further crystallized when we begin to interview those who are often Identified as NAR leaders. However, we think there is a lot more nuance, shades of gray if you will, between a heretic and a sound teacher. Many in the chat, and on our Facebook posts were calling for a public denouncement of Bill Johnson, Mike Bickle, and Todd White. Though we may disagree with these men on various issues, no one on our team is ready to cry “heretic”. So in this episode of The Remnant Radio, we explain where we stand theologically with guys like Bill Johnson, Mike Bickle, and Todd White. This is not a critique of their ministries, this isn't an attack on what they practice, this video is an attempt at an objective examination of their teachings and practices in order to explain why we think they fall under the banner of “orthodox”.

@Christian, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be quick to listen to his sermons (assuming you're talking about Todd White), and would not agree with what he says. I'm more referring to calling everyone a heretic because everyone else was and the evidence that was shown were soundbites. I agree with the guys at Remnant that as of now I would say his teaching is problematic.
The interview they did with Todd White showed that he's willing to listen to correction, so there's hope there. :)

“A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” There are so many theological divisions in the church that instead of getting easier to discern, it’s getting harder. The enneagram crept into the church and now has taken a seat at the table. It’s sad that it hasn’t been recognized for the Trojan Horse that it is. Its teaching is from the occult but seen as helpful. It’s no different than ascribing to astrology.

This may be my favourite segment that you’ve done (and Sam Storms and Craig Keener are two of my favourite pastor/theologians and scholars respectively - so your interviews with them are hard to beat). I just so appreciated the way you approached the topic with context and proportion in mind. The distinction between someone’s theology and language (and the implications of those differences) is also a great point. Also glad to know that Bickle falls in the staff category for you (reformed requirement aside) :))

On Todd White @27:55: It's good to correct someone in love but to let a person preach to thousands while having a "sloppy" Christology is bonkers. And he have so many issues as you've mentioned, leg-lengthening tricks, Jesus becoming every kind of sinner..And in some videos of him (in many occassions) claiming he have never sinned when he came to Christ (though I can't find a full sermon on it to check it in context - which I honestly think I don't need to)..
The case of Apollos is different, it was in the early church, unlike today that we have all the Scriptures and confessions of the Church. He was also teachable and humble. In contrast to Todd White when he was sent with the American Gospel documentary by Costi, went mad and even called it demonic. He said that he wasn't asked about what he believes when in fact, he declined to be interviewed in it (as noted on the American Gospel documentary at 01:45:54)
I'm watching your stuff brothers (hey Im subscribed) because I want to learn from you on how to have conversations and be gracious and humble to learn from different perspectives. But sometimes, you don't call things as it is and it brings confusion to the audience. Todd White IMO, is a false teacher and should not be endorsed and should be labeled under the category 'dangerous'.

It's always scared me to see how much the terms false teacher, false prophet, etc. are just thrown around...it's as if those people forget judging is a two-way street; those who are quick to use those judgments are also judged with the same ferocity in the Kingdom, and I can pretty much promise they won't bear the weight of it in the long run. This is why invariably those heresy hunter ministries descend into nothing but bile and bitterness, and end up being a cancer in the body of Christ. Like they said in the video, there is a time for those strong labels to be used... but you better be dang sure you're justified in using it and it wasn't because of hearsay.

My main takeaway has always been "Lord teach me to have a heart that burns for you like this". If our hearts don't burn for Jesus, we will take every teaching out of context, even scripture. I continually struggle with your softball approach with poor teachers. From my perspective, if people are making millions of dollars spewing poor teaching there is a big problem you are not calling out. Let's use Todd White as an example. You called his language messy. He says things regularly that can be taken as heresy by people without a solid Biblical understanding. What qualifies a person like this to teach? That is a major problem that NEEDS to be called out. I have a question about modalism. After hearing you talk about it I read some definitions online. Someone placed a statement like "Yahweh took on flesh" to be modalist. I have actually spoken this way about Jesus many times, but affirm the Trinity, and have also said that Yahweh is Father, Son and Spirit. Is this messy language? Is "Yahweh took on flesh" modalism? Hey Chad! Long time no talk!!! Hope all is well.
No, that would not be modalistic. Someone is using the word wrongly. It would only be modalistic if someone understood Yahweh to be the Father, who subsequently manifested as a different “mode”-Jesus. Even then, however, this usage of Yahweh would be incorrect.
In the OT, Yahweh can reference the Father (Ps 2:2), as well as Jesus (Isa. 44:22-25; cf. Phil. 2:9-10), as well as the Holy Spirit (1 Sam 16:14). This emphasizes the unity of God, within the Trinity. The Father is Yahweh. The Son is Yahweh. The Spirit is Yahweh. Yet there is only one Yahweh. Yahweh does not change modes. He is not the Father on Monday and the Son on Tuesday. He is Father, Son, and Spirit, unconfounded as Persons, yet undivided in substance.

Well how about when one teacher says one thing, and a scripture says/teaches the exact opposite… then we mark and avoid properly like the Bible says instead of trying to love them out of heresy because unless they’re OUR pastor or preacher we have no way to give second or third admonition to a stranger. So we simply cut the fountain of false doctrine out of our lives because God INSTRUCTS us to. It’s like dancing close to the fire and seeing how long you can be icy and not melt while proclaiming to be opposite. False doctrine is poison for a reason. It's time we begin waking up and naming, exposing, and avoiding these monsters. 26 of the 27 books of the NT pull no punches when it comes to false teachers. That's a LOT of times mentioned. This must be pretty important then to Christ beyond the common sense aspect to include it so many times.
Now, should everyone who has error be labeled a heretic? Heck no. And we're not talking about that. We're talking about a pattern of deception, lying, stealing, hurting and manipulating people for money, then gaslighting them when their cancer doesn't dissappear. This modern theatrical con-artisty didn't originate in Corinth. It started in the US in the late 1800s.

James, as he was carried along by the Holy Spirit, said it best: "Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check."
He is speaking to fellow believers and not speaking to a pack of wolves. Folk would not have entire ministries based on identifying false teachers and false prophets IF James 3:1-2 was taken seriously by those whom God has appointed as leaders/elders over local Bodies of believers. And therein lies another problem, for many in positions of leadership are not called by God to be in those positions in the first place (some are simply 'promoted' to that position because of boldness and gifting in evangelism, healing or some other gift/s).
I was thrust into preaching/teaching out the front of a small fellowship just 2 or 3 years into my walk and should never have been even considered. I did not want to do it but was convinced by the leadership that I was listening to Satan's whispers. I knew where my gifting was and it was not principally in the church - it was out in the highways and byways. I was permitted to stumble in many ways, not keeping myself in check, and (thankfully) removed from that position within a year.
If teachers were as James describes, then we would not be in such a mess as men seek to build their own kingdoms in their own power and therefore - those we are commanded to have nothing to do with - would never get a foothold in any fellowship, let alone any pulpit.
In Acts 20:29 Paul said that he knew that savage wolves would come in after he had gone, not sparing the flock. He was speaking to the shepherds. When he said that some would even rise from amongst their number to distort the truth, was he still speaking specifically about the overseers or did 'from among you' refer to those in the rank and file flock? Either way, or both ways, the shepherds cannot have gone on to do their 'job' properly and still don't today.
In conclusion, we must pray that leaders are given discernment and wisdom. It is sadly lacking and as a result people are walking in the wrong callings.

It’s okay! We are called to judge everything in light of Scripture. Doing that doesn’t make you a bad guy. We are called to call out false teachers - but first to carefully judge whether or not they are false. Truth is what we all seek. Thank you, Mr. Roundtree.

@Christian I so agree with you on your comment. One problem I am seeing as we are trying to protect correct doctrine is a need for doing so in love. But if someone is using the media to get their theology out there, they should be able to be accountable and loving when people throw out red flags on what they are saying. If the pastor acts arrogant and unloving in their responses to criticism and also doesn’t consider what is being said to them, then this seems to say that they really don’t care about ministering and teaching the sheep they are given. They are more about their ego and agenda.

My comment concerns two matters- Firstly, whilst I find your channel interesting and informative, may I point out that the picture and title of some of your videos is often misleading and actually damaging to unity in the body of Christ. For example, your most recent video with the title “Do We Interview False Teachers?” has a picture of Randy Clark, Todd White and Mike Bickle. Now on first glance at this my immediate conclusion was that you were labelling these 3 brothers as false teachers. Now Jesus said you would recognise false prophets/teachers by their fruit, and that trees that don’t bear good fruit would be cut down. When I look at the preaching/ teaching of these 3 men, I see a lot of good fruit from them, and none of them has been cut down. Also I dislike the way that sometimes when discussing some of those who may have been labeled as false teachers, they are made fun of in your light hearted and laughing banter. Is this kind? I pray that you will consider these comments and in future consider your presentations in a more mature and thoughtful manner. May God bless your ministries in the future.

I wonder if part of how Paul (the apostle) practiced discernment involved considering that *false* teachers tell *falsehoods*? Which is to say, that *lying* might come readily to them when defending themselves? 1 Timothy 5 about the conspicuous and inconspicuous sins of false teachers - *God will find them out*. Do you suppose that means that, before God lays them bare, we shouldn't be making any efforts to do so? Especially when there's plenty of available evidence to cross-examine...
By the way, regarding guilt by association, do people that "discern" by such "charitable" principles just interpret 2 John 9-11 as referring only to a super-specific example?

I enjoyed this. I noticed that in Genesis 49:3-28 Israel (Jacob) had appointed his 12 sons to lead 12 tribes of Israel. After generations of growth they were massive tribes, they had issues with one another, some fell into terrible sin and worshipping false gods and so on, others were losing their faith but God kept them on track miraculously. Some got wiped out completely I believe, (I still need to study more) but when you parallel it to Jesus's 12 disciples, they were the heads of the 12 "tribes" or churches of Jesus. So atleast 12 churches that are around today are going through a simular battle with their theology and hermeneutics although their could be more im just comparing for biblical clarity on how we should use the 12 tribes of Israel as a learning tool and Not do what they did, because God was very displeased and constantly had to deal with each tribe individually. And yes the tribes fought among themselves. Just like denominations fight among themselves and it's always bothered me. Because every denomination that exists today is either missing somthing, giving somthing that isn't biblical or sadly is straight up a total cult. Most those died off in the Jim Jones era but they have the ability to pop up anywhere and go underground quick. So this means somthing to me. Where do I go to church? If I go to a denominational church that feeds most of me but doesn't feed a very malnourished part of me that God wants me to use for His glory, then where should someone go? I grew up in a very charismatic pentecostal family from the age of 12. I was taught that if I do not do certain things than I cannot have the Holy Spirit's baptism. I prayed for over years to recieve this gift, I was doing everything biblically and fasting and had hands laid on me and prophesy spoken over me and im telling you, I got the works. Not to mention I'm 4th generation of a line of pentecostal ministers. So the pressure was on me very hard. It never happened though. Im 35 now and finally realized that beating myself up and torturing my self for not getting a gift I begged for, spoke into being, had faith id recieve it, claimed it and was prophesied over to be given it.... was not helping my faith or my walk with God because I stayed frozen and didn't try to grow because I was convinced for over 15 years that I didn't have the Holy Spirit truely operating in me because I couldn't speak in tongues. I believe in the gift, but it's nolonger somthing I'm waiting for to grow in Jesus. But going to a pentecostal tongues speaking church would be very traumatizing for me because a lot of people in that denomination, with all their mind, body spirit, believe that you have to speak in tongues to recieve the baptism of the Holy Spirit and ive lived a life already that wasn't devoted to God over thinking I had to have that gift in order to be truely saved and as proof im serious and have achieved holiness. So there is a lot of trauma that these denominational rules have caused many people because the tribes/churches don't realize we are a gathering of tribes that when brought together, make up the full Body of Christ. Waring amongst ourselves because we do not agree with one another on secondary issues is the same thing the 12 tribes of Israel did and look at them. Only 144 thousand are gonna get saved according to Revelation of John ( if I read that right)
My really long point is I appreciate what you guys do. I think its important for us to not vilify people who give God the glory and know Jesus, His Son, died and was raised from the dead by Him, and all to save us from our sin so we could be reconciled to God. I think it says somewhere that we will be shocked by who we see made it to heaven and shocked by the ones we see didn't make it. Thats scary to think about, what if we all think we are the only "right" church and we were the most corrupt and backwards one? There are only 2 churches that make it. Smyrna, and Phillidelphia. I think this represents the Jewish Christians and the gentile Christians. (Just a personal belief not somthing I'm asserting)
That means to me that no christian denomination is going to be picked, but remnants of God's people will be pulled out of every single Bible teaching, Gospel sharing, Jesus loving church on earth. God says He knows the heart of those who are His own. There is no right or wrong church you can go to as long as you are in a community the loves Jesus, has correct theology and is bible teaching and Bible believing, even if there are a few walking things going on, I promise you, this happens in every church nomatter where you go. No church is a 100% perfect church. But i believe many churches offer many different things for different people by design, because everybody is different and as churches we should realize that we are members of one body but just because my church is not the hand, we can't say we are useless, and we can't say the church thats the leg is less important than us hand churches. We are all important if we are teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and even in churches that screw up, they can be used by God for great things.
Sorry so long. I hope that made sense, thats what I got out of your teaching and thats my view mixed with what I learned today from your video. Thanks guys! God bless you three!

Who is the "believers" in Matthew 7: 21?
It seems that they said "LORD, LORD" but HE didn't know them.
Does that mean that they could prophesy and do works of the spirit but not be in CHRIST?

    • @justin2308
      @justin2308 2 роки тому

Yes. One essay I read said that the believers who didn’t make the narrow way (He didn’t know them) didn’t make it because they didn’t have agape love. Even Paul says that without love, everything we do is pointless- even martyrdom. It basically goes that, for salvation, you need to be saved by grace through faith. However, that faith cannot stand by itself without works to strengthen it (the works themselves do not save). However, our works do not profit us anything without love- not just any love, either, the Greek word used is agape.
      Love -> Works -> Faith -> Grace -> Salvation

I do want to challenge you brothers in the difference between "error" and "heresy" (maybe an episode idea for you). I hear peopel sling the word heresy around a lot, when in my opinion it is error. Now yes, error should be avoided as much as possible, but it happens and always needs to be corrected. But when I think of "heresy" (which also needs correction of course), it does not and cannot co-exist with the truth. When I think of heresy I also think about how it can prevent and/or effect salvation because of an improper teaching/doctrine which can lead to a skewed and unbiblical identity of God/Christ. Would the certain teachings such as "God always heals physically", word of faith movement, "tongue speaking being evidence of the Holy Spirit" and others be deemed heresy to you guys because these teachings have led to spiritual abuse and theological "crisis" as I like to say? Many times teachers of such doctrines refuse to be corrected - (these teachings cannot co-exist with the truth). Or should we be mindful in saying "heresy" because heresy is often associated with non-believers/false converts - which we want to be mindful of saying? Curious on your thoughts.

I have to say this. A lot of people talk about the gift of discernment. There is no gift of discernment. We should all be discerning. The gift is called discerning‘s of spirits. Both parts are plural in Greek. We should all be able to discern false teachings from the word, but this is a particular manifestation gift. Just had to put that in there because I hear that term gift of discernment a lot and that’s not actually what it is. When does gift or manifestation is an operation, we are discerning spirit, whether there be angels, demons, human spirits, the similitude of God, the risen Christ, the activity of the Holy Spirit, etc. This could be like acts seven and Stephen saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of the father when he was being murdered, or like acts 16 when Paul discerned the spirit in the fortuneteller who was delivered of that demonic spirit, etc. It has to do with the realm of spirit and what is operating in a situation. It is a tremendous gift of the spirit. Discerning‘s or distinguishing‘s of spirits. The plurality‘s can be seen in only a few English translations such as Youngs literal, ASV, the footnotes of the NASB, Etc.

I struggle with him and have tried listening to some sermons, but I just haven't really heard him share the gospel. But I'm not sure I can say he isn't saved or is a false teacher. Is it possible he's maybe saved but just isn't really preaching the gospel and perhaps needs some correction? I want to maintain a posture of humility, especially since I obviously don't know him personally. I wouldn’t read into him not coming on our show. People tend to make decisions based on relationship. We don’t have a relationship with Bill.

Do a video on that. You won’t because it would be impossible to justify calling him a Christian after. It would switch to wolf.

My heart may be wrong but it bothers me that you guys feel you need to respond to the comments. Every show you play the intro segment that explains the goal of remnant radio. I fully understand that you’re going to have people on the show that not everyone is going to like. That’s why remnant radio is interesting and relevant. The negative commenters can go back to their theological echo chambers

Why does Jesus say, I’m the son of man, if he’s not man?
