Yep, most of eastern Oregon is desert. I live right on the border at the base of the Cascade Mountains.
hmmm .. don't really see what is sketchy about that? .. in a full sized truck maybe
This was filmed with a gopro which tends to smooth things out. Nothing looks as steep, narrow or rutty with gopro footage as it is in real life. Of course I'm sure there are sketchier roads.
