    Thank you for the guide! :)
    HA version 2021.12 and higher, the configuration code will not work anymore (at least it didn't for me).
    After adding through HACS, you need to go to your integrations > add integration > wiz light and add the IP address there.

    The #1 thing you need to have for wiz bulbs (or anything using wifi) is a good wifi AP. The home combo router / AP you get from your provider is not good for IoT. They limit the number of connected devices (I had Motorola surfboard and shocjly only allowed like 25 connected device). So if your lights are dropping its because your router is kicking it off. Move to a mesh AP or prosumer grade AP like ubiquiti and this problem dissappear. I have no issues with connectivity and I have over 30+ lights

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit  3 роки тому +2

      Yes exactly! Even with one of the spendier linksys systems I had issues with lights and just overall wifi dropping, but with a mesh network that resolved it. I should've mentioned that, thankyou that's a great point!

      @@abdullahal-shimri3091 Absolutely! I'm using a TPLink system (amzn.to/3puCqNd). I know some people swear by Unifi, but for 3 of those it networked 5000 square feet reliably (I have one dead spot in a bathroom), it's easy to use, and the cost was reasonable. If you're looking to spend money and want to go of a more technical route then Unifi is what people swear by, but I don't even know the list of what all you'd need since they do things more piecemeal.

    Hey great video. I wanted to add one thing for those of you interested in the inovelli switches. You mentioned they dont shut the power off when in a certain mode but this doesn’t fully explain their usefulness. Im sure you’ll cover this in the video about them you mention but just to get it out there for somebody watching this video instead of shutting the power off on a down press or turning on the power on an up press they will send a trigger event to home assistant to do with as you please. In most cases turning the lights on or off via home assistant script so they don’t loose track of their state and remain powered. None the less awesome video. I happened to purchase one of these for testing today. Also for anybody looking at inovelli switches they are fantastic along with the support of the folks who make them. A little pricey but worth it in my opinion.

      Great point, Pinning this so others see it! Yes the relay disable is a game changer when combined with smart bulbs and home assistant for the reasons you mention. Glad it's working out for you as well as it is for me, loving the product and the company!

  • @miketony2069

    I had same reaction. I was using hue for a few years and decided to try wiz thinking they were like other crappy non hue lights. Total opposite. I ended up moving to a place eith many down lights and I just moved everything to wiz. I actually like that e app as it works outside my home out of the box. Hue app remote access was always quirky and always lost connectivity. I almost don't want the word to get out as I don't want the price to go up.
    The only down side is no smart switch for these. I'm trying out innovelli switches as a possible solution

      What hub are you using? I'm using an Inovell with a home assistant setup and I'm able to control these quite well including scenes and such. (I just did a video of the invoellli setup actually....it's a killer combo of their switches with this). I hope you're able to get it setup because it's been amazing!

      @@geektoolkit I am using SmartThings for my hub. I am glad to hear that you're using Innovelli. I heard about the Innovelli ability to disable the internal relay (and thereby keep the wiz bulb on) and use the functions of the Innovelli dimmer/switch to control light levels and on/off state. I have the Innovelli switches but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. Seems like you got the whole thing working!
      I should add I have one Leviton Smart paddle switch for my outdoor light (which is an A100 superbright color wiz bulb). I have a Smartthings routine that turns light on at 6pm and off at 6am and it works great.

      I've seen a few reports of that, and when I had previous wifi bulbs I had similar issues. I've moved to a mesh wifi network and haven't had any issues with my bulbs since. I believe that due to the way the bulbs are designed, they don't have the greatest wifi receiving range..so while other devices connect fine, they require a bit more power. Of course that's not of use to someone if they have to replace their wifi setup to get bubls to work. I wonder if this is why Hue went with Zigbee, where every bulb can act as a repeater vs. wifi. if you found a good alternative please share, as others may hit the same issue and it'd give them something to try.

    Very new to Home Assistant and I primarily wanted to integrate my Wiz lights and Switchmate light switches. Great video except you lost me at editing the yaml in your file editor (on your left panel.) I don't have that and being a noob, don't know how to edit the file. Suggestions?

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit  3 роки тому

      I have a home assistant series that walks through a lot of the basics…that way when I do a specialized video I can zoom through things and won’t have to lay them out in every video. For the thing you’re missing you’ll want to go to addons and add the file editor addon, which should allow you to easily edit the yaml. If you have time I highly recommend the series ive made to help out with stuff like that, if you’re already installed I’d start at episode 2 (there’s a playlist on my profile page). Hopefully that gets you up and running!

      I don’t have one for that specifically but usually my approach is edit file, check to make sure it’s valid, reboot. Look for notifications of errors. Then go to supervisor and check logs. Then look for them in developer tools. Usually in the logs, notifications, or when checking configuration I’ll see what went wrong.

    So I see in a previous comment you mentioned that you've got inovelli switches and wiz working well? I am using smartthings and have my wiz and inovelli working in smart bulb mode, however there is a slight lag (as to be expected since everything happens in the cloud).
    So I assume with HA Wiz integration it's doing everything locally. I figure this is the case because I saw some other wiz hacks elsewhere that allow you to control the bulbs directly if you have the bulb IP. I assume that is what the HA wiz developer is using. So I am super interested in this now due to control the wiz lights locally. Is this what's happening for you? When you use your inovelli switch tied to a wiz bulb is it fast or is there a lag? This and a couple other things is leading me to switch to HA

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit  3 роки тому +1

      I'd say there's about a 500ms lag. It is entirely local however. It's never bothered me. I've seen zwave lag before where the light switch gets hit and then you hit it again because you're not sure if it worked. I don't have that with this. but it's not as instant as with a non smart standard switch. I hope that helps!

    Yes, I've been there. 6 smart bulbs connected to dumb switches. After a couple of days I noticed that I was the only family member using the smart control. Everyone else was just hitting the switch.
    As you clearly mentioned, just adding a relay smart switch just added complaints to the scenario (delay...). Recently I considered replacing the switch by a Shelly i3, but I came across a few tutorials that convinced me that an ESP32 would allow many more switches and sensors for about the same price. I'm still studying this project, but hopefully it will finally give me a family-approved automation.
