Rachel Talbott I have been watching your channel for awhile now and am very happy to see a “less waste” focus becoming a part of your content. Thank you! I believe it’s so important to share content like this, and your videos can inspire others. I follow a variety of these practices as well, and I am always looking for new ideas. I am from Portland, Oregon and I have now been thinking of a possible future home that involves chickens. I eat mainly plant based, however my partner loves eggs. Your videos are increasingly motivating me to create more of a plan to adopt chickens later in life and to build a small paradise for them. Ha! Anyways, thanks for the great videos.
@@liveloveloud100 Where did you get that information? I don't talk politics ever, because I think they are all corrupt... seems like you are trying to spread a lie and misinformation based on an assumption, not a fact.
I do get fascinated with such videos.. I've seen tons of these where they show how to waste less or be eco friendly or family producing less or 0 waste.. I'm an Indian I've grown in the shadows of my grandmother for quite sometime.. very early in age we were taught to leave the plate clean.. eat every single grain not to drop food on the table mat.. our old t-shirts were used as kitchen slab cleaners.. if we buy a container with a product the container was reused to keep the kitchen organised.. fix our old toys.. if a newly stitched dress was not fitting me anymore that dress would be given to a person who could wear it.. As time kept passing what my grandmother taught was considered as we are not well to do.. unwanted relatives oh you're still using the same container etc etc.. when i watch these videos it reminds me of my grandmothers teachings.. Till date I use my old t-shirts to clean the kitchen slab.. it's not I can't afford a sponge wipe it's just let's make the world a better place.. I'm not ashamed to use my old cloths or a free container I got with coffee or oats..
Same experience here as a child and I come from south america, now I live in the USA and totally forgot the old good days, but trying to retrain myself again ☺️
I absolutely love the steps you're taking in living a more natural, healthy and less wasteful way!! Until this video I had never heard of reusable paper towels. I rarely use paper towels and there's a partial roll on top of the refrigerator that's about 9 years old. I use glass canning jars and glass containers for all of my food storage and I also use stasher bags instead of plastic.
I also use just a microfiber cloth (which isn't great for the environment, I know, but I bought them years ago and made sure they don't lose microplastic). I wash them with my kitchen towels and will get rid of them in a few years before they fall apart, then chance to old thick cotton or sew myself some from an old towel 😊
We recently started doing this with our produce. We put the produce scraps into paper bags then through everything, including the bag, into the compost. Easy clean up and get the right ratio of carbon to nitrogen. Just be sure to place the paper bag in something in case of any leaking/juices seeping out
While I am all for the less waste thing, I don't see the practicality of reusable paper towels. I grew up with normal paper towels, and we use them for a million things. And, the soap bar thing wouldn't fly in my house. Also, the compost pail would just stay dirty b/c it is a scrap bucket - so just keep it out of sight in your kitchen, or even outside, and don't worry about cleaning it! AND, I'm allergic to Castille soap, so that's out for me. AND, I get everything I need from Honest and Grove Collaborative!
I've loved your channel for a while, and I love that we are both working towards being more ecofriendly. It's nice not to loose a channel because my values change but have someone to grow with 💚
I would love to see more content around this idea! This video was so inspiring to me and I'm definitely going to look into making some switches myself 🤍 great ideas, thank you!
Love it so much, I'm in the same process to switch to non plastic stuff and chemical products to more organic, natural and homemade. It is indeed a journey, but it also makes me happy.
I visited your channel first time and found it v helpful...you r v organized and disciplined lady....and know how to get benifits from available resources, stay blessed ❤️
Don’t know if this tip’s already been shared but if you’re worrying about smell or flies around your compost, try putting it in the freezer in a resealable container until it’s full or when you need to take it out!
When you don't have a freezer: Buy one of the IKEA 365+ boxes with a silicone lid (the sell them in glass and plastic, I choose plastic for easier handling and because it will last me for years). It was a game changer, especially in summer 😍
That is true, your habits definitely change. We start zero waste a couple of years ago. The first thing we stop using was paper towels, instead we use wash clothes, in the beginning was weird but we set up our minds like in old days and before we knew it 2 years has pass. It feels good knowing that we are helping the environment and also we are saving. 🥰
I just love this...de started composting like a month ago, and I dont have a lot garbage to throw every day, it's just amazing. We luve in an apartment, so out compost needs to be in a clay pot and we dont have the worms. But man it.has.made such a difference. And any plastic that I get I try to save it on a plastic bottle to later donate as an eco - brick. Really organizing and traying not to produce so much garbage does a lot of good to the planet
I have the exact same mop and mop bucket. It is LIFE CHANGING. Absolutely love it. Anyone who cleans a lot should invest in one! I got mine for only $25 at Lowes on sale.
Thank you so much, Rachel, for doing your part, too! :) :) You're great, and I love your videos and I took SO much joy from your journey these last two years :)
I love these types of videos so much. Thank you so much for sharing this and for inspiring so many people to be less wasteful. That's such beautiful use of your platform. Thank you!
For your garden harvests, try the Stasher silicone reusable bags. That's what I use to store my carrots, green beans, and other veggies in the fridge from the garden. I also use them to freeze leftovers, or to pack snacks on the go. While the silicone bags aren't biodegradable, they can be washed in the dishwasher and reused many, many times.
You asked for suggestions about storing veg. Ive tried the beeswax papers and just cant get used to them. What I do for my carrots and celery is use old pickle/mason/glass jars and store stackable sizes immersed in filtered water in those. With those reusable paper towels (I use them too) I wrap any veg that needs to stay crisp then place in my crisper. Everything from from lettuce to greens. I also invested in specialed veg storage containers (i try to get glass when possible). I dont know of you've heard of the Blue Apples, but they go in your crisper and help to trap the ripening gases that produce emits therefore preserving produce longer! They are great!
Wonderful and informative! I shall definitely be looking into usable paper towels as well as the beeswax paper. These aren’t as easy to come by in London but I believe amazon provide a few. Adore the lemon and salt cleaner! Watched your old video on it a while back and have used it since!❤️
Very good points! Also have been trying to find how to reduce the waste. Recently I started using for a kitchen sink 1 cup soda, 1tsp of cinnamon and few drops of any oil, I used orange. Very good cleanser and nice smell!)
Niceeeee Rachel! I have been watching you since the beginning of the channel, I confess I left for a while (our routines didn´t match anymore, you were always buying and I got into the zero waste vibe) but I am back, love this type of content more than that, I love that you are realized how important this cause is! I am sure your followers will notice that as well! Keep doing it girl! Kisses from Malta!!!
Great video! It's funny, I just realized now that I've watching you ever since before you had kids, and you've come such a long way. It feels like a different person, in terms of interests & co (beauty & make up, then vs homemaking and gardening, now). Not complaining, just noticing the difference! Have a great day!
Marley's Monsters is another great shop for all things eco home! That's where we got our reusable paper towels and sponges. They have cute prints, too.
You’re such an inspiration to me Rachel, I’m moving in the same direction with reducing waste so I love these ideas and your videos are always beautiful 🥰

Hi there Rachel! I love this video! I have two tips for you; amazon sells reusable BPA-free baggies in various sizes to store things in your fridge or for lunches and such. They may be dishwasher safe but they may not, I’m not sure. Safe for your health and the planet! Also, and you can find these on amazon as well, if you don’t want to have to empty your compost everyday you can get a compost pail that has a charcoal filter and it won’t smell and won’t attract bugs! We’ve had one for years and can go a full week without having to empty our pail and without smelling it or seeing bugs around it. Hope this helps!
Just loved ur method of cleaning using biodegradable material Usually i use cloth bags for storing vegetables/fruits. Started trying this technique from july onwards and it is working🙂
Hey! I hear what you're saying. =) I think the biggest difference is these are compostable and hand towels often are not. =) The nice thing about a hand towel is that it is reusable, so definitely less wasteful, but maybe finding ones that are compostable is a good option over time =) xo
Also, I want so badly to be as persistent and consistent as you! I want to follow these practices! Sometimes I feel so run down with my sons but I think its bc im not caring for myself.

My biggest eco change this pandemic has been my bidet. Toilet paper was scarce at the beginning and now I just use so much less. I also have only been using real paper towels for gross messes and washcloths for wiping counters and things.
Hey Rachel, I love all the garden, home, cleaning, routine, and less waste videos you post. I was just wondering if you have considered using stasher bags as a replacement for plastic Ziploc bag?
You can also switch off the top of your kitchen brush, so you don't have to buy a completely new one every few months and can just keep the handle 😊 Also: store your coffee in the fridge! The coffee will stay fresh way longer and won't use it's taste! Also, you can use some ground coffee as a smell neutraliser in the fridge. Just put some coffee (that you maybe don't like the taste of) in a small jar or bowl and keep it open in your fridge, it will absorb all the bad smells
Love the cleaning tips they are so sustainable. I want to start composting but we have a lot more vege and fruits scraps than we can compost in a very tiny backyard. Also I am worried about having a rat infestation from all the food that’s rotting. How do you avoid that?
Hey Rachel! I was wondering if you had a document or a link that you could share that talks about essentials oils that are safe for cats and dogs :) Thank you ❤️
Love these tips! I’ve been working on being a lot more sustainable as well. Any tips for someone who wants to compost, but can’t because we live in an apartment?

Try looking up "Composting In A Apartment" here on UA-cam and see if there are any ideas that resonate with you! Thanks for watching! xo
I would look into local composting services if you’re dedicated! Most cities have a company that will allow drop offs for composting- usually costs some money but maybe worth looking in to!

I am slowly but (I think kind of going well) surely growing some plants, herbs and strawberries in my small patio and balcony! But I can't seem to have success with lavender! It keeps drying and dying on me :( I've read it's bad to water it really frecuently, and also bad to let it go dry, so I am not sure what to do!! Do you have any TIPS TO GROW LAVENDER? I hope you can respond! I know you have a ton of comments and are busy, but I love everything you post! I've been following you for years and years!! you always inspire me and push me to be better! Thank you!!
I love to use beeswax wraps. They are very easy to make yourself and they keep your food fresh very well. Just teach people around you not to wash them with warm water. My mother in law soaked them in hit soap and those were destroyed totally after that.
Please create a less waste for all rooms video series!! 🖤 huge fan!!
If you want more details on any of these ideas or tips, please open the description to learn more! I wrote more details on everything =) xo

Dear Rachel, could you share your laundry routine, how do you deal with stains, detergents etc? Tnx
You can also switch off the top of your kitchen brush, so you don't have to buy a completely new one every few months and can just keep the handle 😊
Also: store your coffee in the fridge! The coffee will stay fresh way longer and won't use it's taste!

Thank you!!

i love your videos so much! They are very calming and give me tons of great ideas :)
