Everyone profiles this game using the SNES port. It was originally developed on and targeted for the Genesis, and the devs are on record as saying the SNES version is inferior.
You are 1000% correct. I don't know why I didn't play the Genesis version at the time; I usually try out every port of a game at least for a few minutes before I review it. Combat is MUCH smoother and more enjoyable. Thanks for the correction!
@@MinisterWighty i subscribed to Xband back in the day, and still have it along with my copy of Weaponlord. I don’t recall how much of it I played there though. Most of my time on a band was spent on Mortal Kombat 2 and Super Street Fighter.
Are we ever getting past the snobbery pertaining to SNES vs Genesis? Through early 1993, more Americans had a Genesis than had a Super Nintendo. The Genesis was always more popular in the UK. Even on the sitcom Roseanne, the price point of the SNES was referenced (the blue collar family couldn't afford it).
@@ryanjacobson2508 It's not about snobbery. Developers designed a game with a specific hardware configuration in mind, and it shows in how much better the game plays on the Genesis compared to the SNES . In contrast, the SNES version sounds better and looks better (though has more slowdown)
Wasn't this game designed for xband? That's the modem for the genesis and ones. I read that's why it plays a little chunky, for lag reasons because xband was a dial up modem.
@@marcelluslongus1202 Mine too, I don't recall what I found on the internet that told me 'keeng', but for whatever reason their logic seemed sound at the time lol
@@gjergjaurelius9798 If you're a Genesis player, that's on me. The SNES port isn't very good and I forgot to try the Sega one before recording. If not, then it is simply a matter of taste and encourage you to KEEP loving this game, because if nothing else it's exremely cool!
This game was fire don't care what anyone says lol. Me and my boys spent a whole summer figuring out the moves for each character. This wasn't for the faint of heart, but have some great memories of playing this game.
One thing I can be absolutely, positively, 100% certain of, having never played this game, but having watched this entire video: Zarak's crouching spear jab is THE most annoying ability in the game. I can just tell.
These days it isn't such a sin to look up all the moves on the internet and believe me, there's a lot there you could never just figure out. Directional blocking, deflecting, release moves, airborne moves, Ryu fireball sweeps that clock the top half of the keypad. It is an extremely rewarding experience to truly figure this game out and I still suck at it. This was the perfect 2D fighter and yes indeed it was wwaayy ahead of its time. The learning curve is just so insane, you'll never pick up casual opponents without training them first. But you owe it to yourself to keep it up. I know this video is a little old but I salute you for finding even a SNES copy, if you really do figure the game out, most of the differences are superficial but the Genesis or megadrive version is indeed superior.

Weaponlord looks so badass for a 90's fighting game.
I agree, it kinda reminds me of Heavy Metal 2000

Absolutely had to be an influence!
And when the Gods saw that man had made games of war, they sent unto us DJames!
Doing fatalities better than most of MK line up.
Especially in Armageddon
It even had fatalities like mk

The game wasn’t meant for the SNES or Genesis. It needed something more powerful like the Saturn or Neo Geo.

One of the deepest fighters out there but it does need to be updated. Use to play tournament mode with my bro and friends
