I never drew the comparison between Orion and Blade and now I can't forget it. Side note: in addition to this and BloodStorm, Incredible Technologies also developed Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game (but only the arcade version), which is one hell of a game to play in a modern context. Nowhere near as bad as the reception would have you believe, but it's definitely not very Street Fighter-y in its game feel.
Fun fact: the Genesis port was completed in late 1993, reviewed in several magazines, and then shelved for several years due to its…less than stellar quality. It was dusted off and released in June of 1996 by Black Pearl software, deep into the cardboard box era of carts.
Perhaps people could've taken this game more seriously if Thugg hadn't had a dead dinosaur in the background of his stage. Because as everybody knows, cavemen and dinosaurs totally existed together instead of being separated by hundreds of millions of years. Orion and Matrix always seemed like they were from he same time instead of 400 years apart since they both used lightsabers...um, "laser swords". Seriously, from the little we see there's virtually no difference between the 2800s and 3200s. The Mantazz character was a bit depressing once you realized her stage was the same as Matrix's but "alienified", pretty much outright stating her species defeated humanity, rendering everythig Matrix accomplished utterly meaningless. But the character who fascinated me the most by far was Rancid, mainly because I was able to figure out that hey, I'll probably be alive in 2024! Then I started wondering if there really would be a New Chicago, and what events would lead to that coming about. Still wondering why he couldn't have used something more future-y than a chainsaw anybody from the early '90s could've bought at Lowe's or Home Depot, though.
Turns out there are less chainsaw toting vigilantes of the undercity in 2024 than anticipated... but it's not NONE! Some dreams do come true lol. Thanks for watching!
Had no idea this game was so similar to Eternal Champions... I loved that game. Always wished they'd make a martial arts action movie based on E.C.- hey... what about Eternal Champions VS Time Killers?
I actually really enjoy and find myself going back to the arcade version of this. The Genesis version was fucking atrocious. Dismembering your enemy and removing them access to certain moves in the middle of a fight just sounds like a neat idea in practice. I liked swinging the attack button for the severed limb and throwing blood across the screen 😂
So not only is this game fucking 90s jank at its most clunkiest, the story is as convoluted as a Tetsuya Nomura plot? It's like this game was just set up for failure XD
@@MinisterWighty Well too bad Mortal Kombat went and stole all their thunder, that must have been a huge blow, being beaten' out by Midway in producing the first real ultra violent rival of SF XD
Ah, TimeKillers... Back in college, we had this game in the campus arcade, the only time people played it was when Street Fighter 2 Championship and MK2 and Virtua Fighter and the other, BETTER games were all too crowded. We were even making MSPaint comparisons back then. One tidbit you might not be aware of was that the game, or at least the version we had, had a serious game bug - on the final battle with death, there was a very good chance that the game would get stuck, the time would disappear, and it'd leave your character and/or Death just standing there (I say it like this because I remember one time someone got beheaded, but the game didn't end and another where the opposite happened) stuck in their idle animation. The only way to "fix" it was to reboot the entire machine. There were so many times I'd walk into the arcade between classes and there'd be TimeKillers with the character or characters just standing there breathing with nothing going on. It wasn't 100% either, sometimes it would actually show you the endings, but there were plenty of times when it did not. Never found out what the trigger was, and honestly didn't really care since I so rarely played it and it could be beaten by just choosing Rancid or Mantazz and smashing all the buttons at once over and over again.
It's a bit hard to process the fact that Time Killers is the first fighting game to feature a monster girl in a fighting game, years before Darkstalkers

That explains a lot about the quality of that port. Thanks!
